Harlan Wolfe
Harlan Wolfe, 86, of Gillett, died Sept. 25. He was a contractor and a Methodist.
He is survived by his wife, Corean Wolfe, and several children.
Funeral services were held Sept. 27 at Essex Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Gillett Cemetery by Essex Funeral Home of DeWitt.

Norman C. Hagan
Norman C. Hagan, 79, of Stuttgart, and Rosebud died Sept. 26. He had lived in Harding Place Retirement Center in Searcy for the past two years. He was married to Mary Grace Bullard Hagan, who preceded him in death.
He was a graduate of Stuttgart High School and served in the Army Air Force during World War II.
He entered into farming after the war with his father and continued in farming and the cattle business until retirement in 1998.
He was an active member of the Grand Prairie, State and National Angus Associations, and was a member of Stuttgart First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his sister, Kathleen Botts of DeWitt; a nephew, Bill Botts of Jonesboro; and a niece, Mary Carr of DeWitt.
Funeral services were held Sept. 28 at Turpin Funeral Home in Stuttgart.

Armour "Scoop' Bryant Sr.
Armour "Scoop" Bryant, Sr., 81, of Casscoe, died Oct. 12 at the Veteran's Hospital in Little Rock. He was born May 19, 1919. He served in World War II and retired as a farmer after working as a truck driver for 30 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Jenny Sherman Bryant; one son, Walter Bryant; two brothers, Weather "Buddy" Bryant and Sam Bryant; and two sisters, Florence Bryant and Nina Bryant.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Lillie Mae Bryant; four sons, Clifford Bridges (Ludia) of Chicago, Albert "Ronnie" Bryant (Glen Dean) and Eugene Bryant (Erma) of Casscoe and Armour Bryant, Jr., (Sherry) of Little Rock; three daughters, Ethel Jean Echols (Boyd) of Detroit, MI, Verlene Morrison of San Antonio, TX, and Lillian Bryant Mitchell (Gilbert) of Casscoe, and a host of grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Oct. 21, 1 p.m. at Allen Temple Missionary Baptist Church, 708 N. Buerkle in Stuttgart. Interment will be in Mt. Pisgah in Casscoe under the direction of Gunn Funeral Home, Stuttgart.

Hettie Ruth Smith
Hettie Ruth Smith, 81, of Wichita, KS, died Oct. 10. She was a retired Safeway processing meat packer.
Survivors include three sons, Bud Watkins of Wichita, KS, Benny Watkins of Vici, OK, and Don Smith of Wichita, KS; a daughter, Edna Capps of Wichita, KS; a sister, Hattie Watkins of DeWitt; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
Funeral services were held Oct. 13 at the General Assembly Church of the First Born by DeVorss Flanagan-Hunt Mortuary.
Memorials may be made to the Church of he First Born Building Fund.

Margaret Lena McGhie Dillion
Margaret Lena McGhie Dillion, 82, of DeWitt, died Oct. 13. She was a member of Unity Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and had operated a jewelry store. She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell LaRoy Dillion; a sister, Alice Carle; and a brother, Walton McGhie.
Survivors include a daughter, Sheila Huffman of DeWitt; two grandchildren, Joseph Shane Huffman and Jamie Leigh Huffman of DeWitt; four sisters, Lois Wilson of DeFuniak Springs, FL, Joyce Stephens of Stuttgart, and Juanita Carter and Donna Jean Westof DeWitt; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Oct. 16 at Unity Baptist Church with burial at DeWitt Cemetery by Essex Funeral Home.

Annie Tyleen Gresham
Annie Tyleen Gresham, 71, of DeWitt, died Oct. 13. She was a homemaker and a member of North Maple Baptist Church in Stuttgart. She was preceded in death by her husband, Burvie Gresham.
Survivors include one son, Jesse Gresham of Stuttgart; one daughter, Patricia Strain of Lodge Corner; three grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Oct. 15 at Essex Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Bayou Meto Cemetery by Essex Funeral Home.

Jewel Katherine Inman King
Jewel Katherine Inman King of DeWitt, died Oct. 14. She had been a bookkeeper and a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Lanette Esparza of Denver City, TX; three sisters, Lois Watson of Hobbs, NM, Mary Ann Mattmiller of Gillett and Billie Inman of DeWitt; and one grandchild.
Funeral services were held Oct. 16 a Essex Funeral Home Chapel with burial at DeWitt Cemetery.

Fred Herbert Mell
Fred Herbert Mell, 91, of DeWitt, died Oct. 14. He was a Baptist, a retired service manager for Stephenson Ford Co., and an Army veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.
Survivors include nephews Jerry McMillian, Sr., Jerry McMillian, Jr., and Bennett McMillian; and nieces, Wanda Jo Ashcraft and Mary Jean Horton.
Funeral services were held Oct. 17 at Essex Funeral Home Chapel with burial in DeWitt Cemetery.

Milton Morgan Gingerich
Milton Morgan Gingerich, 87, of Stuttgart, died Oct. 15 at Stuttgart Regional Medical Center. He was born Feb. 15, 1913, in Stuttgart. He was a retired farmer, a member of the Fairmount Ruritans, a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, in which he was an Elder and served on the cemetery board, and the St. John's Men's Club. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Kathryn James Gingerich; a son, Joe Ronald Gingerich; and a sister, Agnes Browder.
Survivors include two daughters, Mickey Ann Frizzell of Stuttgart and Nanetta Johnson of Milledgeville, GA; a daughter-in-law, Gerry Gingerich of Sebring, FL; a sister, Josephine Mommsen of DeWitt; eight grandchildren, Sammy Frizzell, Morgan Frizzell, Tammy Frizzell Browning, Jeff Gingerich, Jan Gingerich Amos, Julie Gingerich, Red Barnes III, Mike Barnes; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Oct. 17 at St. John's Lutheran Church by Rev. Riley with burial in Lone Tree Cemetery by Turpins Funeral Home.
Memorial may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church or a charity of the donors choice.

Joe S. Bryant
Joe S. Bryant of Stuttgart died Jan. 9. He was born Nov. 5, 1930, in New Edinburg, and was the son of Montie and Allie Tipton Bryant. He graduated from Fordyce High School and attended Draughns Radio and Television School in Little Rock. He went to work for the Cotton Belt Railroad where he was employed for 38 1/2 years. He moved to DeWitt in 1960 and then to Stuttgart in 1976. He worked with the Webelos, Boy Scouts and Band Parents in DeWitt and with the Demolay in both DeWitt and Stuttgart. He was a member of the Grand Avenue Methodist Church and was an election worker for a number of years. He was a member of the Euclid Lodge 130 and a 32nd-degree Scottish Rite Mason of the Valley of Little Rock and a member of Scimitar Shrine Temple of Little Rock. He was a member of the Smith Chapel Hunting Club near Kingsland.
Survivors include his wife of 48 1/2 years, Mary Janet Bailey Bryant; three sons, Mike Bryant of Alexander, David Bryant and his wife, Becky of Cabot and Jeff Bryant and his wife, Danyell of Cordova, TN; one daughter, Judy Langston and her husband, Charles of Little Rock; 10 grandchildren, Christy, Misty and Bryan Langston of Little Rock, Becca, Montie and Dorothy Bryant of Alexander, Laura, Ashley, Joseph and Powell Bryant of Cabot; two brothers, W.B. Bryant of Fordyce and Max Bryant and his wife, Virginia of Little Rock; five sisters, Helen and Montine Bryant and Betty Lisemby and her husband, Elbert, all of Fordyce, Shirley Cherry of Odem, TX, and Pat Belin and her husband, Charles of Hermitage; a number of nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Jan. 12 at Turpin Funeral Home in Stuttgart by Rev. George Rook with graveside services at Smith-Morgan Cemetery near New Edinburg by Turpins in Stuttgart.
Pallbearers were Elbert, Larry and Jason Lisemby, Carey Simmons, Charles and Steve Belin. Honorary pallbearers were members of Euclid Masonic Lodge 130.
Memorials may be made to the Grand Avenue United Methodist Church in Stuttgart or to Masonic Youth organizations.

Elsie Douglas Turner
Elsie Douglas Turner, 85, of DeWitt died Jan. 10. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. She was preceded in death by her husband, Burl Turner, Sr.
Survivors include one son, Burl Turner, Jr., of DeWitt; four daughters, Elsie Smith of DeWitt, Mary Alice Cash of Pine Bluff, Lucille Sherman and Carolyn Mannis of Stuttgart; two sisters, Clara Trucks of Indian Springs, NV, and Nona Turner of Benton; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Jan. 12 at Essex Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Forks LaGrue Cemetery by Essex Funeral Home of DeWitt.

Katherine Ione Peacock Moore
Katherine Ione Peacock Moore, 87, of DeWitt, died Jan. 11 at Crestpark Nursing Home. She was born Sept. 7, 1913, in England. She was a homemaker and the widow of Howard Moore.
Survivors include one brother, Joe Peacock of Burlison, TX; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Graveside services were held Jan. 13 at Williams Cemetery near Humphrey by Turpin Funeral Home of Stuttgart.

Juanita Marcella McGhie Carter
Juanita Marcella McGhie Carter, 77, died Jan. 11. She was a Baptist, homemaker, and secretary of Carter Welding. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Carter.
Survivors include four children and their spouses, Carolyn and Jerry Roach, and Gary and Robin Carter of DeWitt, Larry and Sheila Carter of Brinkley, and Glenn and Melody Carter of Fayetteville; three sisters, Donna West of DeWitt, Joyce Stephens of Stuttgart and Lois Wilson of DeFuniak Springs, FL; and 10 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Jan. 13 at First Baptist Church with burial in DeWitt Cemetery by Essex Funeral Home of DeWitt.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Pre-School or Gideons International.

Mildred Powell
Mildred Powell, 85, of DeWitt, died Jan. 12 at DeWitt City Nursing Home. She was a Methodist. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda Kaye Martzel; three sisters, Clara Landon, Myrtle Landon and Jossie Fox; and one brother, Custer McPeak.
Survivors include her husband, Marvin Powell, and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services were held Jan. 15 at Essex Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Gillett Cemetery.
