James Darrell Mannis, 52, of Almyra died Jan. 12. He was a trucker and member of Church of the First Born. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Treva Mannis; three brothers, Danny, David and Larry Murl Mannis; one son, James David Mannis; and one grandchild, Michaela Cheyenne Mannis.
Survivors include his wife, Minnie Ann Mannis; two sons and their wives, Rusty and Michelle George of Pine Bluff and Brian and Jenny Mannis of Almyra; five brothers, Charles Mannis of Post, TX, Carroll Mannis of Stuttgart, Steve Mannis, Ricky Mannis and Audry Mannis, all of DeWitt; four sisters, Lorene Baxter of Sherwood, Maxine Grace of LaGrand, OR, Gail Horsely of Summit, and Susie McFarlin of Glencoe, OK; and four grandchildren.
Graveside serves were held Jan. 14 at Thompson Cemetery

Charles Mason Bohnert
Charles Mason Bohnert, infant son of Charles "Chuck" and Melissa Toland Bohnert of Gillett, died Jan. 14.
Survivors, other than his parents, are maternal grandmother, Patsy Toland of Parilment, SC; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Bohnert of Gillett and Beverly McDaniel of Willis, TX; paternal great-grandmothers, Shirley Bohnert of Dumas and Jackie Cogburn of Lane, OK; one brother, Clayton Briggs of Gillett and one sister, Dakota Bohnert of Gillett.
Graveside services were held Jan. 16 at Gillett Cemetery
with Griffin Funeral Home of Dumas in charge. Pastor Jeff Kuddes officiated.
Bessie Perritt Williams
Bessie Perritt Williams of West Monroe, LA, died Jan. 1.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Williams; four sons, Rickey Williams, Ray Williams and Lonne Williams of Louisiana and Roger Williams of Dallas, TX; one daughter, Shirley Williams Aldridge of Louisiana; one sister, Daisy McGill of Dallas, TX; and four brothers, Junior Perritt of Louisiana, Leon Perritt, Walter Perritt and George Perritt of Arkansas County and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Maude Clarke "Nannaw" Bolton
Maude Clarke "Nannaw" Bolton, 94, of Marked Tree and DeWitt, died Jan. 10 at Methodist Central Hospital in Memphis, TN, after a short illness. She was the founder of the first Girl Scout Troop (#1) in Marked Tree and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Marked Tree. She was a devout Christian and an avid fisherman and enjoyed "playing" with silk flowers. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Betty B. Smith.
Survivors include her son, Bob C. Bolton of Marked Tree; four grandchildren, Whit Bolton, Clark Bolton, Susan Mahaffey and Amy Bolton Beebe; eight great-grandchildren, Bob Watson Bolton, Erin Judith Bolton, Whit Johnston Bolton, Sarah Ashley Bolton, Dustin Thomas Bolton, Kristin Danyel Bolton, Lacie Elizabeth Beebe and James Bolton Beebe; and one great-great-granddaughter, Skylar Nicole Bolton.
Funeral services were held Jan. 12 at Murphy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Herbert Hand officiating. Interment was in Marked Tree Cemetery.

Christene Selma Capps Ford
Christene Selma Capps Ford, 79, of Gaston, OR, died Jan. 3 at Tuality Community Hospital in Hillsboro, OR. She was born Jan. 27, 1921, in DeWitt, one of 11 eleven children of Robert Lee and Elizabeth Zimmerman Capps. She was raised and educated in DeWitt, and retired from Mears Control in Beaverton, OR, in 1981. She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 52 years, Alfred C. Ford and five brothers and sisters.
Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ken Ford of Gaston, OR, and Doug and Janet Ford of Forest Grove, OR; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Lois and Elden Thompson of Tonopah, AZ, Joyce Stevens of Utah and Doris and Monroe Gerdes of Gaston, OR; 18 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; four brothers, J.D. Capps, Jimmy Capps and Merle Capps, all of DeWitt, and Orbie Capps of Wabbaseka; a sister, Audrey Capps of DeWitt; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Howard S. Gans
Howard S. Gans, 82, of St. Charles, died Feb. 13. He was born Nov. 13, 1918, in Brooklyn, NY, to Celia Mendelsohn and Louis R. Gans. He graduated from Brooklyn Polytechnic Preparatory School in New York City in 1935. He also attended summer school at Culver 
military Academy and went on to graduate from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1940. He served in the United States Army from 1941 to 1945 as a sergeant in the Third Army Division and fought in the Battle of the Bulge under Gen. George S. Patton.
After World War II, he became a floor salesman at Macy's in New York City and later became a partner with his father as the proprietors of the Louis R. Gans Furniture Showrooms in Queens, NY. In 1952, he moved to Miami, FL, to become president of Florida Furniture Distributors, Inc., and in 1957 became East Coast sales representative for Ward Furniture Manufacturing Company of Ft. Smith. Gans became vice president of marketing and communication for Ward Furniture in 1968 and remained in that position until his retirement in 1970.
Since that time he became involved in rice and soybean farming in Arkansas County. He spent his winters in St. Charles and his summers at East Grand Lake in Orient, ME.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Elizabeth LaFitte Gans; two children, Howard Gans, Jr., of New York City, NY, and Claudia Gans Arkovich of Winter Park, FL, and her husband, Marvin; five stepchildren, Robart Long and James A. Ward IV of Little Rock, Elizabeth Ward Gillespie of Hickory, NC, and Miriam Ward and Cornelia Ward Thode of Little Rock; one grandson, Robbie Arkovich and his wife, Christie of Tampa, FL; one granddaughter, Kellyann Goring of Clemont, FL, and her husband, Tom; and two great-grandchildren, Robert and Andrew Goring.
A private family service was held Feb. 17 at the Roller-Chenal Funeral Home in Little Rock.

Virgilene Brunson
Virgilene Brunson, 75, of DeWitt died Feb. 12. She was born Sept. 30, 1925, in Tichnor, the youngest of three children. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jonas and Susie Hamilton, her brothers, Lee and Othal Hamilton, and a son, Alexander Shaun Brunson.
She joined New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in 1959. She served as a deaconess, Sunday school treasurer and a member of the choir.
She married Restee Williams, Sr., in 1943. To this union three children were born, Restee (Brenda) Williams, Jr., Evelyn Davis Williams and James (Debra) Williams. She later married Daniel Brunson, Jr. To this union nine children were born, Lee Othal Brunson, Carolina Larry, Daniel Brunson, Jr., Rita (Henry) Smith, Curtis Brunson, Brenda Lewis, Alushia Robinson and Alton Brunson.
Survivors include her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends.
Frieda Adelle Nabors McMaster
Frieda Adelle Nabors McMaster, 72, of DeWitt, died Sept. 25 at DeWitt City Hospital. She was a charter member of Faith Baptist Church and was very active in the church, serving as church librarian, girls auxiliary leader, and flower chairman and on the church hostess committee. She was a member of Gideons International Auxiliary and was retired from Farm Credit Services.
Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Raymond Roy McMaster; three sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Dee McMaster of Fayetteville, Donald and Julie McMaster of Raleigh, MS, and David and Gayle McMaster of Houston, TX; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sept. 27 at Faith Baptist Church. Interment was in Cedarcrest Memorial Gardens by Essex Funeral Home.

Deacon Lee Roy Brown
Deacon Lee Roy Brown, 65, of Gillett, died Sept. 19. He was a farmer and a member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Ethel, where he served as a deacon and served on the building and cemetery committees. He was born March 1, 1936, in Gillett to Colister and Annie L. (Wilkerson) Brown. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Flora London Brown; five sons, Mitchell (Sue) Brown of Gillett, Roy G. (Kathy) Brown of North Little Rock, Gregory Brown of Gillett, Michael (Stephanie) Brown of Newport News, VA, and Anthony (Isierene) Brown of Dumas; five sisters, Atlonia Green of Fresno, CA, Mary P. Miller and Lou Ella Taylor of Little Rock, Bessie Burse and Betty Brown of Seattle, WA; 15 grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, three sisters-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were held at St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Ethel with interment in Mt. Olive Cemetery
in Gillett by Releford and Son Funeral Home in Stuttgart.
Sarah L. Williams Hearn
Sarah Louise Williams Hearn, 73, of Ft. Payne, AL, died in an Alabama hospital of heart complications Aug. 28. She was a veteran. She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Lewy Hearn, and a son, Michael Jeffrey Hearn.
Survivors include a son, Jonathan Hearn of Ophelika, AL; a daughter, Sandra Schaffer of Hope Mills, NC; two grandchildren; her mother; two sisters; five brothers; a sister-in-law, Cecile Gray of DeWitt, and a brother-in-law, Basil Hearn of St. Charles.
Burial was in Ft. Mitchell military Cemetery
in Columbus, GA.
Clarence Loyal Sloate
Clarence Loyal Sloate, 57, of Brinkley, died Oct. 1. He was born Aug. 12, 1944, in DeWitt to Clarence and Clara Watson Sloate, and he lived in DeWitt until moving to Brinkley. He was minister of the Gospel in the Church of the Firstborn in Hunter. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was employed with Bobby Hernard Tire Company of Brinkley. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Glen and Calvin Sloate and one sister, Joyce Bohall.
Survivors include his wife, Georgene Sloate of Brinkley; two sons, Darren Sloate and Lamar Sloate of Brinkley; a niece whom he loved as a daughter, Carol Wood of Springdale; two brothers, Dewayne Sloate of Naylor, MO, and Ted Sloate of Judsonia; three sisters, Carnell Sloate and Louise Poor of Judsonia and Wanda Heidlebaugh of Tulare, CA, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Oct. 4, 10 a.m. at the Church of the Firstborn in DeWitt by Essex Funeral Home of DeWitt with burial in Thompson Cemetery.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Oct. 3 at the funeral home.
Napoleon (Red) Ticey, Sr.
Napoleon (Red) Ticey, Sr., 69, of DeWitt, died Sept. 25. He was born Feb. 23, 1932, in Red Bluff to Notrip and Susy Ticey. He worked many years for Roger Cockrum before working for Briggs Brothers Farms. He was a Mason. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and seven brothers.
Survivors include his faithful and devoted companion, Sherry Ann Hobbs; three daughters, Margaret (William) MacDonald of Denver, CO, and Cathy Lee and Misty Ticey of Little Rock; four sons, Napoleon Ticey, Jr. (Rita) of Pine Bluff, Heath Ticey of DeWitt and Tony (Damita) Burse and Steve Burse of Little Rock; five step-daughters, Frankie (Kirk) Oates, Robbie O'Neal, Leslie Tart, Brandi Bradford and Kira Hobbs; four sisters, Dorris Scott and Ella Patterson of Los Angeles, CA, Corine Carey of San Bernardino, CA, and Annie Lovette of El Dorado; two brothers, Leonard (Beverly) Ticey and David (Ruth) Ticey of Kansas City, MO; devoted friend Earnest (Shella) Smith of Los Angeles, CA; 17 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sept. 30 at First Missionary Baptist Church with interment in Morning Glory Cemetery
in DeWitt with Libery Funeral Home in charge.
W.H. "Dub" Poston, Jr.
W.H. "Dub" Poston, Jr., 74, of St. Charles, died Oct. 31. He was a retired foreman with the Arkansas State Highway Department and a member of Belleview Missionary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Annella Dempsey Poston.
Survivors include two sons, O'Dell Poston of Roe and Robert Poston of St. Charles; two daughters, Frances Harpole of St. Charles and Ester Hageman of DeWitt; three sisters, Christene Brown of Ethel, Lucy Smith of DeWitt and Ida Berry of Abilene, TX; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Nov. 2 at Essex Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Chute Cemetery

Carl Eugene Hopkins
Carl Eugene Hopkins, 65, of Redfield, died July 15 at his home. He was born Nov. 26, 1937, in Jonesboro to Authur Hopkins and Catherine Hopkins McCoskey. He was a Mason and a member of the Church of the Undenominational of Redfield. He retired from the United States Navy after 20 years and 6 months, worked at the Government Services Teaching military School for two years, worked at the Pine Bluff Arsenal for four years, worked for the United States Government Special Services for four years and retired. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Wallace Valentine McCoskey; one son, Rickey Wayne Hopkins; one brother, Charles Hopkins; one sister Lawanda Faye Hopkins Thornton and one daughter-in-law, Mary Hopkins.
Funeral services were held July 19 at River Road Church of Undenominational at Redfield. Burial was in Pike Cemetery
in Royal near Hot Springs by Memorial Gardens Funeral Home of Sheridan.
