Mary Laura Spicer
Mary Laura Spicer, 76, of Little Rock, died July 25. A longtime resident of Stuttgart, she was born April 30, 1927, to Laura and Charles W. McDougall, Sr. She graduated with honors from Stephens College in Columbia, MO, and the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. She was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority, Stuttgart Garden Club, Stuttgart Fine Arts Club, Arts Center of the Grand Prairie and the Museum of the Arkansas Grand Prairie. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 49 years, James Phillip Spicer.
Survivors include her daughters, Mary Shawna Spicer Cothern and Laura Michelle Spicer; a brother, Charles W. McDougall, Jr., and his wife, Jo; three grandchildren, Carissa Cothern, Mariel Spicer and Cody Hughes of Little Rock; sisters-in-law, "Dickie" Burnett and Dottie Roth of Stuttgart; a nephew and his wife, Duke and Cindy McDougall of Stuttgart; and many other nephews and nieces.
Funeral services were held July 29 at Turpin Funeral Home Chapel in Stuttgart with Rev. George E. Rook officiating. Burial was in Lone Tree Cemetery in Stuttgart by Turpin Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Museum of the Arkansas Grand Prairie; 921 East Fourth St.; Stuttgart, AR 72160, or a charity of the donor's choice.

Betty Lee Best
Betty Lee Best, 92, of Tichnor, died July 27 at her home. She was born Sept. 23, 1910, to Alvin and Ophelia Tharp in Ethel. She was a homemaker and a member of the Nady Church of the Nazarene. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George D. Best; two brothers, Henry and Jim Tharp; two sisters, Dea Miller and Hallie Krablin; and one grandchild, Pat Best.
Survivors include three daughters, Betty Jean Ramus of Forrest City and Jeanell Shelton and Ruth Vansickle (Billy) of Tichnor; four sons, George A. Best (Margaret) of Kingsland, James Best (Joanna) of Tichnor, Buddy Best (Kathryn) of Sherwood and Wendy Best (Ruth) of Logan, WV; 27 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Hollis Krablin and Jennie B. Whiting of Tichnor; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held July 30 at Nady Church of the Nazarene with burial in Hockenberry Cemetery by Essex Funeral Home of DeWitt.
Memorials may be sent to the church or the cemetery at 135 Bestville Lane. Tichnor, AR 72166.

William "Ray' Overton Jr.
William "Ray" Overton, Jr., 58, of Sardis, died Nov. 8 in Sherwood. He was a market supervisor for the Sunbeam Company.
Survivors include his wife, Debbie (Mannis) Overton of Sardis; two sons, Billy Ray Overton and Brandon Overton of Malvern; two stepsons, Bartley Mannis of Conway and Neil Webb of Little Rock; three stepdaughters, Melanie Mannis, Jacqueline Mannis and Whitney Wright of DeWitt; his parents, William and Oveditha Overton of Malvern; a brother, Gaylon Overton of Malvern; two granddaughters and three grandsons.
Funeral services were held Nov. 12 at Ashby Funeral Home Chapel in Benton with burial at Tulip Cemetery.

Hubert Perry Brinton Sr.
Hubert Perry Brinton, Sr., 90, of Tichnor, died Nov. 15 at DeWitt City Hospital. He was a retired farmer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Brinton.
Survivors include one son, H.P. Brinton Jr., of Tichnor; one daughter, Lois Goodell of Gillett; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held Nov. 17 at New Zion Baptist Church in Tichnor. Burial was in Bonnor's Chapel Cemetery by Essex Funeral Home of DeWitt.

Harold Lloyd Moyer
Harold Lloyd Moyer, 57, of Stuttgart died Nov. 15 at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock. He was born Aug. 28, 1944, in Manila. He was a retired truck driver and a Baptist. He was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Moyer.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Ray Moyer; two daughters, Tina Maurray and Stacy Stanley of Stuttgart; his mother, Nellie Moyer of DeWitt; three brothers, Paul Moyer of DeWitt, Randy Moyer of Crocketts Bluff and Ricky Moyer of Gillett; two sisters, Phyllis Bohannon of DeWitt and Marcella Anderson of Humphrey; and four grandchildren, Drew Murray, Sloan Murray, Slade Murray and Skylar Stanley.
Funeral services were held Nov. 17 at Southside Baptist Church with Rev. Gregg Greenway officiating. Burial was in Lone Tree Cemetery by Turpin Funeral Home of Stuttgart.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Larkin Thigpen
Larkin Thigpen, 88, of DeWitt died Nov. 18. He served in the U.S. Cavalry during World War II and was a member of the American Legion. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Stephens Thigpen.
Survivors include his stepdaughter, Catherine Trussell and her husband, Estel, of DeWitt; a granddaughter, Janis Brandon of Little Rock; a grandson, Dennis Trussell of DeWitt; two great-great-granddaughters, D'Lisa Butler of Little Rock and Denise Vansickle and her husband, Kyle, of Tichnor and a niece, Teresa Fischer of DeWitt.
Graveside services were held Nov. 19 at Cedarcrest Memorial Gardens by Essex Funeral Home of DeWitt.Everett "Pete' Hendrix

Everett "Pete" Hendrix, 71, of Almyra, died Nov. 18. He was a farmer and member of Almyra First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Viola Hendrix; his parents, Elsie and Rosie Hendrix; and a half brother, Junior Poor.
Survivors include his children, William Hendrix and his wife, Janie, of Almyra, Brenda Lawson and her husband, Ricky, of Almyra, Glenda McCarroll and her husband, Richard of Rose Bud, Sonda Henderson and her husband, Tony, of Almyra and Rhonda Hammett and her husband, Gordon, of DeWitt; two brothers, Calvin Hendrix and D.D. Poor of Almyra; three sisters, Thelma Henderson of DeWitt, Mildred Cupples of Dumas and Hazel Young of Lonoke, 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Nov. 21 at Almyra First Baptist Church with burial in Thompson Cemetery by Essex Funeral Home of DeWitt.

Bertha Murphy
Bertha Murphy, 58, of DeWitt, died Nov. 15 at Crestpark Retirement Inn of DeWitt. She was born Nov. 10, 1942, in Jackson, MS. She was the daughter of John Peterson and Marie Thomas. She was a member of the First Baptist Usher Board and a member of the Order of Eastern Star. She worked many years as a teacher in California and also worked as a nurse in the California Department of Health. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Murphy; five brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include her mother, Marie Thomas of Los Angeles, CA; two sons, Mark (Tony) Peterson and Michael Murphy of Little Rock; one daughter, Marie Murphy of Little Rock; five stepchildren, Cary Murphy, Randy Murphy, Brian Murphy, Marilyn Murphy Bridgewater and Diane Murphy of Indianapolis, IN; two brothers, Alphonso Peterson of Los Angeles, CA and Robert Hill of Chicago, IL; one sister, Lillian Neal of Detroit, MI; 19 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Nov. 24, 2 p.m. at First Missionary Baptist Church in DeWitt with the Rev. Michael Desmuke, Sr., officiating. Burial will be in the Hopewell Cemetery in St. Charles by McKinzie Funeral Home of DeWitt. Visitation will be from noon until 6 p.m. Nov. 23. Family hour will be from 6-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Vernella Fitzpatrick
Vernella Fitzpatrick, 89, of DeWitt, died Nov. 17 in Camp Springs, MD. Born Sept. 4, 1914, in Ethel, she was the daughter of Z.D. Spears and Izora Hudson. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include two sons, Autry Fitzpatrick of Gaithersburg, MD, and Dean Fitzpatrick of Palmer Park, MD; five daughters, Marva Jeter of Temple Hill, MD, Helen Lane of New Carrollton, MD, Freddie Jennings of Gardenia, CA, Mary Johnson of Camp Springs, MD, and Ann Fitzpatrick of Beryn, IL; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held Nov. 25 at 2 p.m. at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Ethel with Rev. Charles Joyner officiating. Burial will be in the Butler Cemetery in Ethel by McKinzie Funeral Home of DeWitt. Visitation will be Nov. 24 from noon until 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Colleen Wright Roach
Colleen Wright Roach of DeWitt died Nov. 17. She was a member of DeLuce Prairie Union Methodist Church, where she served as music director and church secretary. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Earl Roach, and a sister, Pauline Wright Sanders.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry Roach and his wife, Carolyn of DeWitt and Danny Roach; one brother, Gilbert Stocks of Madera, CA; four granddaughters, Sarah Roach Richard, Lisa Roach Fitzgerald, Julie Roach and Stephanie Boyd. She also leaves three "grandchildren by choice," Nikki Rush, Jesse Rush and Ramona Rush, and their mother, Barbara Rush.
Funeral services were held Nov. 21 at Essex Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jodie Smotherman and Bro. R.D. Edwards officiating. burial was in Cedarcrest Memorial Gardens by Essex Funeral Home of DeWitt.
Memorials may be made to DeWitt City Hospital or the charity of donor's choice.

Homer Lloyd Rothenhoffer, Sr.
Homer Lloyd Rothenhoffer, Sr., 78, of Kennesaw, GA, died Dec. 12. A native of DeWitt, he was a World War II Air Force veteran, retired after 22 years of service. He worked with the Civil Service where he also retired after 20 years. He was a Methodist.
Survivors include his wife Colleen Rothenhoffer of Kennesaw, GA; a son, Homer L. Rothenhoffer, Jr., of North Pole, AK; two daughters, Sherry Purvis of Kennesaw, GA and Debbie Kain of Clinton, MS; a sister, Louise Sciacca of New Orleans, LA; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home of Kennesaw, GA, was in charge of arrangements. The family will have a private memorial service at a later date.

Ethel L. Henderson
Ethel L. Henderson, 87, of DeWitt, died Dec. 16. She was born Sept. 5, 1914, to Ray and Margie Henderson and spent her entire life in Arkansas County. She was married to J.Y. (Jimmy) Henderson Dec. 31, 1931; he died Dec. 19, 1976. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter-in-law, Nancy White Henderson; sons-in-law Doyle Eakin and James Mullen and a brother, Everette Henderson.
Survivors include her sons, Jimmy Ray Henderson (Mary) of Searcy and Johnnie Henderson (Peggy) of Decatur; daughters, Mary Helen Mullen of DeWitt, Carolyn Eakin of Forrest City, Kay Marshall (Dan) of Texarkana, TX, and Sue Rush (Joe) of Texarkana, TX; ten grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, Lynwood Henderson of Mobile, AL; and a sister, Dene Strange of Fairfield Bay.
Funeral services were held Dec. 18 at Essex Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Cedarcrest Memorial Gardens by Essex Funeral Home.

Robert E. Price, Jr.
Robert E. Price, Jr., 71, of Little Rock, formerly of Tichnor, died Dec. 10. He retired from the Army after 21 years, having attained the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 3.
In 1974, he embarked on his second career as business administrator of First United Methodist Church in Little Rock. He was preceded in death by his parents, Blanche and Robert Price and a brother, Marlon Price.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Brigitte Price; a son, Clayton Price; his mother-in-law, Elizabeth Starcke; a sister-in-law, Helga Price; a niece, Linda Mullins; a nephew, Kent Price; and his much loved "kids," Abby and Murphy, two Cairn terriers.
A memorial service was held Dec. 14 at the First United Methodist Church in Little Rock. Arrangements were by Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Child Development Center; 324 West 8th; Little Rock, AR 72201 or the Humane Society of Pulaski County; 14600 Colonel Glenn Road; Little Rock; AR 72210.

Denise Hazelwood Johnson
Denise Hazelwood Johnson, 47, of Richton Park, IL, died Dec. 12 in Illinois. She was born Dec. 10, 1954, to Josephine and Ralph Hazelwood. She completed high school at Chicago Vocational High School. She was employed at Blue Cross and Blue Shield. She was the daughter-in-law of the late V.M. and Allie M. Johnson of Ethel.
Survivors include her husband, Billy Wayne Johnson; one son, Billy II of Richton Park, IL; one sister, Sharon (James) Jemerson of Chicago, IL; one brother-in-law in Illinois; two brothers-in-law in Arkansas; six sisters-in-law in Arkansas and a host of other relatives.
Funeral services will be held Dec. 21 at St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Ethel with the Reverend Robert Vanderbilt, pastor, and Rev. Charles Joyner officiating. Burial will be in the Chute Cemetery in St. Charles by McKinzie Funeral Home of DeWitt.

Vera Mae Coker
Vera Mae Coker, 87, of Branson, MO, died Dec. 13. She was born Dec. 25, 1914, in DeWitt to Lee and Lena Prange Wright. She lived in Little Rock where she was a secretary for the Internal Revenue Service before moving to Branson, MO, in 1994 to be close to her daughter. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Henry and a sister, Louise.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Maureen and Guy Pardue of Branson, MO; her son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Monica Coker of Gainesville, FL and two grandsons.
Funeral services were held Dec. 17 in Snapp-Bearden Funeral Home in Branson, MO, with burial following in Ozarks Memorial Park Cemetery by Snapp-Bearden Funeral Home.
