Macel May Standfield Capps
Macel May Standfield Capps, 88, of DeWitt, died Dec. 16 at her home. She had worked at DeWitt Footwear and in farming and was a member of the Church of the First Born. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kelly Capps, and a daughter, Vivian Kemp.
Survivors include her four children, Barney Capps of Wichita, KS, Lorene Birdwell of Pine Bluff, and Chester Capps and Lester Capps of DeWitt; a brother, Thomas Standfield of Baton Rouge, LA; 23 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Dec. 18 at the Church of the First Born with burial in Thompson Cemetery

Dorotha Elizabeth Mitchell Cox
Dorotha Elizabeth Mitchell Cox, 86, of DeWitt, died Aug. 13 at DeWitt Nursing home. She was born Nov. 14, 1915, in Nady to Isaac Jerome and Minnie Leona Renfro Mitchell. She was a homemaker, a gardener and a member of the Church of the First Born. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Silas Cox; a son, Roger Jones; a grandson, Freddie Cox, Jr.; two brothers, I.J. Mitchell and Herbert Kronz, and her parents.
Survivors include her children, Dottie Bogue, Freddie Cox, Floyd Cox and Charlie Cox of DeWitt; stepbrothers, John Bill Jackson, Miles Jackson, Jr., and Melvin "Skippy" Jackson of DeWitt; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held Aug. 16 at Essex Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Thompson Cemetery

Quentin Donald 'Don' Rogers
Quentin Donald "Don" Rogers, 79, of Gillett, died Aug. 18. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, American Legion, Disabled American Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II in the European Theatre, retired after 33 years from Insurance Services of Arkansas in Little Rock, and was assistant rural letter carrier out of the Gillett Post Office for five years.
Survivors include his wife, Gertrude Rogers; a son, Mel Rogers of Little Rock; two grandchildren; and a niece, Mary Ellen Kemker, and a nephew, Joe Pentecost, of Memphis, TN.
Funeral services were held Aug. 21 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with burial in the Lutheran Cemetery
by Essex Funeral Home of DeWitt.

Lula Mae Jenkins
Lula Mae Jenkins, 79, of Blytheville died Aug. 8. She was born Aug. 6, 1923, to Nathiel and Mariah Harrison in Gould. She was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church in Blytheville. She was preceded in death by five siblings, her parents, and her husband, Anderson Jenkins, Jr.
Survivors include one son, Idell (Bernice) Jenkins of Blytheville; two grandsons, S.Sgt. Kenneth (Nicole) Jenkins, United States Army, Reyadh, Saudi Arabia, and Brett (Demetra) Jenkins of Blytheville; three great-grandchildren, Reshun R. Johnson of Pine Bluff, and Devonte and Damaan Jenkins of Blytheville; one sister, Dorothy Lewis of Chicago, IL, and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Vivian Geraldine Jackson Pierce
Vivian Geraldine Jackson Pierce, 88, of Helena, died Aug. 18 at Stuttgart Regional Medical Center. The daughter of Cleve and Lizzie Harper, she was a homemaker and merchant in St. Charles and was later a nurse in Stuttgart and Pine Bluff. She lived in Helena 12 years and was a very active member of United Pentecostal Church in West Helena before moving to the nursing home.
Survivors include one son, James E. Jackson and his wife, Jerri of Heber Springs; three daughters, Loraine White of Pine Bluff, Jewell Griffin and her husband, Buron of Helena and Virginia Hall and her husband, Buddy of DeWitt; two stepchildren, Otho Jackson of Pine Bluff and Leona Ragsdale of Wheatley; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Robert Clinton Toler
Robert Clinton Toler, 42, died March 22 due to injuries received in a vehicle accident in Sanger, TX.
He was born in Raleigh, NC, Dec. 26, 1960 to Robert W. Toler and Barbara Martin Toler. He held a BA degree in business administration from Northwood University in Cedar Hills, TX, and was employed with Abbott Laboratories in Dallas, TX, for the past 14 years. He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Sanger, TX, and had a special interest in overseas missions and supported Holt International Adoption Agency. He was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Toler.
Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Tina Marie Wright Toler; three children, Robert James Toler, Theresa Marie Toler and Anthony Stephen Toler of Sanger, TX; his father, Robert W. Toler of San Antonio, TX; three sisters, Twyla Toler Benson of San Antonio, TX, Tanya Toler Boedeker of Soldotna, AK, and Robin Toler King of Kenna, WV; his mother- and father-in-law, Lynn and James Wright and a brother- and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Yolanda Wright of Houston, TX; five nephews and seven nieces. He was the grandson of the late William and Lena Moore Martin of Monticello and the late Clint and Olevia Ruffin Toler Hillman of DeWitt.
Funeral services were held at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Sanger, TX on March 29 with Father Peter Katzaroff officiating. Burial was in Sanger Cemetery

Mary Carlene Blackmon, 78, of DeWitt, died March 27. She was a Baptist and a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Clifton Blackmon, a son, Jimmy Blackmon, a brother, Elmer Schorstein and two grandchildren, Lisa and Chris Blackmon of DeWitt.

Robert Lee Holderfield
Robert Lee (Robbie) Holderfield, 81, of DeWitt, died March 28. She was born Aug. 18, 1921, and spent most of her life in Rison where she was a retired food service supervisor for Rison Public Schools. She was a member of Unity Baptist Church in DeWitt. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ross M. Holderfield.
Survivors include three daughters, Cora Moore (Ray) of Star City, Sherrie Hargrove (Frankie) of DeWitt and Terrie Oakes (Randy) of Nashville, TN; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Georgia Hamaker of Warren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held March 31 at Unity Baptist Church in DeWitt with burial at Prosperity Cemetery

Janice Tester-Burchfield, 44, of Pine Bluff, died March 30. She was a bus driver for the Pine Bluff School District and a member of First Christian Church. She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert "Bobby" Gray.
Survivors include her life companion, James Burchfield of Pine Bluff; children, Jerry W. Kitson of Plano, TX, Candy Collins of Star City and Rebecca Jordan of Tyler, TX; her mother, Maxine Duncan of DeWitt; two brothers, Henry LaVon Duncan and Jack Edward Duncan of DeWitt; a sister, Linda Johnson of Watson, and three grandchildren.

Rev. Charles Joyner
Rev. Charles Joyner, 55, of DeWitt died April 3 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Pine Bluff. He was born Aug. 30, 1947, in Ethel to Robert and Elizabeth Butler Joyner. He attended the St. Charles Public Schools. He was the vice-moderator of the White River District Association, a member of the Masonic Lodge of DeWitt, a member of Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church of DeWitt, a sergeant with the Arkansas Department of Corrections (Varner Maximum Security Unit), a farmer and the pastor of Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church of DeWitt for 20 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Edna Burton and two brothers, Robert W. Joyner and Mack Joyner.
Survivors include his wife, Henrine Joyner of DeWitt; one son, Dwayne Knowlton of West Helena; four daughters, Rita Conley of Maple Grove, MN, Latrina Joyner of Conway, Shamanda Joyner of Ethel and Satia Spencer of DeWitt; a brother, Hubert Joyner of Dumphries, VA; two sisters, Josephine Senn of Suitland, MD, and Mary Jane Wright of DeWitt; eight grandchildren; one uncle, Arthur Joyner of DeWitt and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held April 12 at 2 p.m. at Unity Baptist Church at 823 West Fourth St. in DeWitt with Rev. Robert Vanderbilt officiating. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery
in Ethel by McKinzie Funeral Home of DeWitt.
Visitation will be April 11 from 9 a.m.-noon at Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church in DeWitt and from 2-9 p.m. at Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church in DeWitt. There will be a praise and worship celebration at the church from 5-9 p.m. All family and friends are invited to participate in this ceremony.
Vernice Roberts Nowlin Brotherton
Vernice Roberts Nowlin Brotherton, 80, of St. Charles, formerly of Dumas and DeWitt, died April 3 at DeWitt Hospital. Her death was the result of a stroke suffered April 1. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in St. Charles.
She was born July 24, 1922, in Lincoln County to John David and Nora Thompson Roberts. She was preceded in death by her husband, Toney Brotherton; a granddaughter, Christy Brotherton; one step-son, Tony Lamar Brotherton; and her parents.
Survivors include four children, John Nowlin (Faith) of Crossett, Travis Nowlin of Dumas, Mary Bisswanger (Jerry) of Ethel and Elizabeth Ward (Bob) of DeWitt; a step-daughter-in-law, Shirley Brotherton of Jefferson, TX; eight grandchildren, Tracie Moore (Nick) of Sommerville, SC, Sherri Breshears (Keith) of Crossett, Melissa Gray (Richard) of St. Charles, Donnie Bisswanger (Crissy) of Humphrey, Jay Nowlin of Houston, TX, Phillip Nowlin of Crossett, Keith Bisswanger (Jamie) of Camden and Michael Ward of DeWitt; two step-grandchildren, Buddy and Don Brotherton, both of Jefferson, TX; and six great-grandchildren, Hannah and Heather Breshears, Josh Moore, Hunter and Matt Bisswanger and Madelyn Bisswanger. She is also survived by two very special friends whom she considered sisters, Frances Kennedy of Bossier City, LA, and Lamoine Drumheller of Pine Bluff, and her beloved cat, Mandy.
Funeral services were held April 5 at First Baptist Church in St. Charles with graveside services in Tyro Cemetery
that afternoon by Essex Funeral Home of DeWitt.

Peggy Cater Lowe
Peggy Cater Lowe, 56, of Selma, died March 30 at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Little Rock. She was a Methodist and a counselor at DeWitt High School.
Survivors include her husband, Miles Lowe; two sons, Tillman and Vernon Lowe; one granddaughter; her mother and a sister.
A private memorial service was held April 1 at Old Piney Cemetery
in Selma. Arrangements were by Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home of Monticello.
A student-led memorial was held at DeWitt High School April 2. It was arranged by Jana Rawson and a committee of Lowe's students. DHS Student Council president Pat Frizzell introduced principal Glenn Johnston, Ron Carter, Haley Mannis, Fellowship of Christian Athletes president Seth Henderson, Joe Bates, Melissa Inman, Chris Steiner and Sam Thompson who spoke or sang in memory of Lowe. The program included Psalm 121, words of a song by Josh Lawson and a quote by Rawson, "Mrs. Lowe was a pretty flower and God picks the pretty ones."
Marthelma Iona Fisher McFerrin Hamm
Marthelma Iona Fisher McFerrin Hamm died April 4 at her home. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of the Firstborn. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ottomer and Frances Fisher; her first husband, Johnny Carroll McFerrin; her second husband, Joel Hamm; a son, Richard Carroll McFerrin; five brothers, Wayne, Ralph, Glendel, Calvin and Bud Fisher; and two sisters, Syble Carender Wright and Florence Mannis.
Survivors include one brother, Ervin Fisher of DeWitt; three sons and their wives, Paul and Rosetta and Jerry and Thelma McFerrin of DeWitt, and Donnie and Carla of Stuttgart; four daughters and their husbands, Irene and Johnny Jenkins of Roe, Betty Bates of Visalia, CA, Frances and Charles Fry and Myreta of DeWitt; Eight grandchildren, Brian, Dusty and Kristen McFerrin of DeWitt, Melissa McFerrin of Omaha, NE, Joanie Smith of Roe, Jamie McFerrin of Texas, Randa and Jolena Burns of Visalia, CA; six great-grandchildren, Daniel McFerrin, Breanna McFerrin, Taylor Elrod, Matthew, Tyler and Haley Smith, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were Murl Capps, Carroll Ward, Elvin Wright, Raymond Mannis, Charles Fry, Wayne Davis and Lewis Garrett.
Funeral services were held April 6 at the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn with Brother Ulyess Wright and Brother Howard Mannis officiating. Burial was in Thompson Cemetery

Albert Edgar Lockhart
Albert Edgar Lockhart, 83, of Grady, died April 4 at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff. He was born Feb. 3, 1920, in Walker, LA. He was a retired farmer, a Baptist and a World War II Army veteran. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jackson Fee and Georgia E. Arnold Lockhart, and nine siblings.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Grahnert Lockhart; two sons, Tommy Wayne Lockhart of Star City and Floyd Lynn Lockhart of Huntsville, AL; two daughters, Brenda L. Heigl of Sebring, FL, and Patty L. Wilson of Pine Bluff; five sisters, Sarah Elizabeth Ward of Sacramento, CA, Nell Massingill and Georgia Burris of Denim Springs, LA, and Myrnia Marshall and Agnes Gill of Humphrey; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held April 7 at Turpin Funeral Home Chapel in Stuttgart with Rev. Eric Lockhart officiating. Burial was in Frazier Cemetery
