Jack Doyle Stuard, 84
WWII vet, oilfield worker
RANGER, Texas -- Funeral services for Jack Doyle Stuard, 84, of Dierks were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17 in First Baptist Church. Rev. Jim Kemp officiated.
Burial followed in Merriman Cemetery
under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home. Local arrangements were by Chandler Funeral Home of De Queen.
Mr. Stuard was born Sept. 12, 1917, in Ranger, Texas, son of Clarence and Lula Cunningham Stuard. He died Wednesday, Nov. 14 in a Dierks, Ark., nursing home.
A World War II Army Air Corps veteran, Mr. Stuard graduated from Colony High School in Ranger, Texas, and attended Ranger College before working as an oilfield manager for Shell Pipeline and IW Hot Oil and Arkansas Hydraulic Shop. He moved to Lovington, N.M., in 1953, then back to Ranger in 1957, where he owned and operated a laundromat for several years.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Articia, N.M., a member of the American Legion and Victory Baptist Church in Lovington, N.M. He moved to Dierks, Ark., in 1999.
Survivors include: four sons, Lonnie Stuard of Giddings, Texas, Wesley Stuard of Dierks, Tommy Stuard of Murfreesboro and Barry Stuard of Dierks; a brother, Claude Stuard of Irvan, Texas; a sister, Imogene Jean Lain of Articia, N.M.; nine grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Glen Billings
NASHVILLE -- Funeral services for Glen Billings of Center Point are pending with Nashville Funeral Home.
Mr. Billings died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2002.
Ora W. Robinson, 87
Center Point native was active in Los Angeles church
LOS ANGELES -- Funeral services for Ora Whitmore Robinson, 87, were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 30 in Holman United Methodist Church. Rev. Henry L. Masters, Sr., officiated.
Mrs. Robinson was born Dec. 16, 1914, in Center Point, Ark., the daughter of the late Pearly and Estella Belcher Whitmore. She died Friday, May 24, 2002.
She moved to California in 1947 and joined Holman United Methodist Church. She was a past president of the Wesleyan Service Guild, a Communion Steward chairman and a member of the Holman Needle Crafters. She was also a member and past matron of the Sadie Alexander Chapter No. 63 Order of the Eastern Star, Prince Hall Rite of Adoption.
Mrs. Robinson was employed by the Los Angeles School District at Dorsey High School until her retirement Dec. 16, 1976.
The third of eight children, she was preceded in death by two sisters, including her twin, Zora Dowd, and Mattie Dowd, and four brothers, Willie, Ira, Ledell and Arlandas Whitmore. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Robinson.
Survivors include: a son, Amos Bullock; a sister, Hattie Clardy; four granddaughter; five great-grandchildren; and a number of nephews and nieces.
Curtis L. Jones, 90
Father of former U.S. Surgeon General
NASHVILLE -- Funeral services for Curtis L. Jones, 90, of Mineral Springs are scheduled at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 18 in the Nashville Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Chester Ray Jones will officiate.
Burial will be in Tabernacle Cemetery
under the direction of Nashville Funeral Home.
Mr. Jones was born March 23, 1912, in Nashville, son of the late Charley and Minnie Walker Jones. He died Oct. 13, 2002, in a local hospital.
He was preceded in death by: his wife, Haller Jones, in 1995; a son, Dr. Bernard Jones; a daughter, Dr. Patricia Jones-Jackson; a sister, Elnora Jackson; and a brother, Augustus Jones.
Survivors include: six children, Dr. Joycelyn Elders of Little Rock, Katie W. Turrentine of Bellville, Mich., Beryl G. Watson of Detroit, Charles C. Jones of Chicago, Rev. Chester R. Jones of Washington, D.C., and Phillip Jones of Nashville; three sisters, Joella Sewell of Mineral Springs, Eartha L. Walker of Chicago and Susie M. Jordan of Mineral Springs; 25 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17 at the funeral home.
John Lee Hansen, 84
NASHVILLE -- John Lee Hansen, 84, of Nashville, died Dec. 14, 2002, in Nashville.
He was born Aug. 9, 1918, in Donna, Texas, to the late Hans Paulus and Dora Christina Larsen Hansen. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Lockesburg Methodist Church.
Mr. Hansen was a hard worker during his life, tending to his cattle and gardening. When he had time he loved to watch wrestling matches on TV and when they came to town. Mr. Hansen was a member of the Arkansas Cattlemen's Association and a member of the Oddfellow Lodge in Texas.
He was preceded in death by a brother Paul Hansen and his wife, Vera Elizabeth Hansen, who died in October 1996.
Survivors include: one daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and Harold Hartness of Nashville; one son and daughter-in-law, John Albert and Teresa Hansen of Atlanta, Texas; two grandchildren and their spouses, Donnie and Sharla Parrish of Nashville and Mark and Shannon Parrish of Bingen; four great-grandchildren, Chad Parrish, Katie Parrish, Zac Parrish and Ty Parrish; and many other friends and family members.
Services will be graveside Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, at 10 a.m. in the Oddfellow Cemetery
in Lockesburg with Bro. David Blase officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Nashville Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday, Dec. 16 from 6 until 8 p.m.
Peggy Ann Buck
Age 52
HOT SPRINGS -- Graveside services for Peggy Ann Buck, 52, of Hot Springs were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17 in Fleming Cemetery
with arrangements by the Hot Springs Funeral Home.
Mrs. Buck died Feb. 15, 2003.
Survivors include: a son, Ezra Buck of Conway; two daughters, Tennia Buck of Murfreesboro and Lavel Hollaway of Melbourne; three brothers, Jerry Teague, Jewel Teague and Donald Teague, all of Kirby; and three sisters, Nona McNabb of Kirby, Clara Griffin and Dessie Goodman, both of Texas.
James L. Jones, 33
Burial at Jones Ranch
MINERAL SPRINGS -- Funeral services for James L. (J.J.) Jones, 33, of Springdale are scheduled at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 19 in the Mineral Springs Church of Christ. Burial will be in the Jones Ranch Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at 5 p.m. Friday, April 18 at 284 Cornbridge Road, Mineral Springs.
Mr. Jones died Saturday, April 12.
Survivors include: his father, James Jones; his mother Beverly Jones; and children, Nakota Jones and Trystyn Jones.
Carrie Lynn Tollett, 16
NHS student was killed in automobile accident
LOCKESBURG -- Carrie Lynn Tollett, 16, of Nashville, Ark., died Monday, June 16, 2003, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was born March 15, 1987, in De Queen, to Mike and Lynn Smith Tollett.
Miss Tollett was a member of First Baptist Church in Lockesburg, and she attended Nashville High School. She loved riding horses and 4-wheelers, and she loved singing. She was a member of Happy Face 4-H, Nashville FFA and the Honor Society.
Her maternal grandfather, `Pops" Robert L. Smith, preceded her in death.
Survivors include: her parents, Mike and Lynn Tollett of Nashville; maternal grandmother, Carolyn Smith of Lockesburg; maternal grandparents, Dean and Sue Tollett of Lockesburg; one brother, Michael Dean Tollett of Nashville; one sister, Jessica Leann and Jason Keith Clay of Lockesburg; a nephew, Hayden Keith Clay of Lockesburg; and a host of other family and friends.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2003, in First Baptist Church in Lockesburg with Bro. Johnny Ross officiating. Burial was in Coulter Cemetery
in Lockesburg under the direction of Nashville Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Kip Webb, Tyler Pope, Justin Thornton, Jared Smith, Jason Clay, Larry Clay, Larry Ray, Matthew Bradshaw, Joe Martin, Blake Reeder and Justin White.
Burl Dean Linville, 65
Retired construction worker
LANGLEY -- Burl Dean Linville, 65, died Saturday, April 14, 2001.
He was born Jan. 21, 1936, in Nashville, son of Miley Roosevelt Linville and Dell Martin Linville.
He was a retired employee of Reynolds and Williams Construction Company in Little Rock and a member of Mount Gilead Baptist Church.
Survivors include: three brothers, Leon Linville of Glenwood, Jerold Linville of Umpire and Archie Linville of Norman; two sisters, Marjorie Worley of Dierks and Jean Reed of Nashville; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 16 in Mount Pleasant Cemetery
with Rev. Dale Howell officiating. Arrangements were by Davis-Smith Funeral Home of Glenwood.
Connell Gardner, 72
Was LPN at Howard Memorial for 38 years
NASHVILLE -- Connell (Connie) Gardner, 72, died Sunday, June 24, 2001, in a Nashville hospital. She was born Jan. 24, 1929, in Pike County, daughter of Albert and Opal Oliver Sanders.
Mrs. Gardner was an LPN at Howard Memorial Hospital for 38 years. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and a sister, including Albert Sanders, George Sanders, Radie Sanders, Mosalee Rushing and Arlis Oliver.
Survivors include: her husband, Hugh D. Gardner of Nashville; two daughters, Judy Hutchison and Trudy Smith, both of Nashville; a son, Mike Gardner of Athens; a brother, Roe Sanders of Nashville; a half-sister, Austie Sanders of El Dorado; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 26 in Bluff Springs Cemetery
with Samuel Peebles officiating and services directed by Nashville Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Howard Memorial Hospital.
