EDNA MAE BARNETT
Edna Mae Barnett, 63, of Newark died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003 in Newport. Mrs. Barnett was preceded in death by her husband Myrlan Gene Barnett and her parents Samuel and Katie Mabe.
Mrs. Barnett is survived by two sons, Jr. Barnett of Batesville and Gerald Wayne of Possum Grape; one daughter Clara Reves of Fayetteville, N.C.; three grandchildren, Katie Presser of Cave City, Nancy Barnett of Batesville ad Jenny Morrow of Alton, Ill.; and four great-grandchildren, Madison Evans of Cave City, Katriona, Hunter, and Phoenix Reddick, all of Alton, Ill.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 1, 2003 at Newport Church of God. Burial was at Ward Cemetery in Strawberry.

Larry Gilliam
Larry Gilliaum, 56, of Newport died Monday, Dec. 15, 2003. He was born June 10, 1947 in Newport to Dale Franklin and Norma Loretta (Parker) Gilliaum.
Mr. Gilliam was a self-employed sandblaster and painter and the owner and operator of Newport Sandblasting. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Gilliaum is survived by one son, Drew Gilliaum; two daughters, Becky Brown and Lindley Cook ; one brother, Robert Gilliaum all of Newport and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 18 at Jackson's Newport Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Ed Pangburn and Mr. Bill Holt officiating. Interment was in Watson Cemetery. Pallbearers were Paul Gilliaum, Jimmy Don Nicholson, Jerry Walker, Stanley Rouse, Gene Sweat and Bill Robertson.

Major Dean
Major (M.J.) Dean, 67, of Beedeville died Dec. 16, 2003 at a local hospital. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. A farmer, he is survived by his wife Thelma Moreland Dean of Beedeville, one daughter Diane Elley of Conway, two sons Hiram Dean of Little Rock and Jeff Dean of Beedeville, three sisters Britha Lee Miller of Beedeville, Mattie M. Simmons of Houston, Texas, Katherine Davis of Washington, D.C.; four brothers Noble Dean Sr. of McCrory, Sherman Dean of Newport, D.C. Dean of Springfield, and Clefton Dean of Kansas City, Mo, and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 20 at 1 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, with Rev. Artur Kelly officiating. Interment will be at Mt. Zion Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 5-6 p.m. Pallbearers will be Mark Driver, Elmer Robinson, Patrick Elley, Ralph Dean, Alfonzo Dean, and Jimmy Dean.

Mary Duren
Mary Duren, 94, of Newport died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003. She was born April 26, 1909 in Calumet, Pa, the daughter of Wasyl and Mary (Smolly) Koschalk.
Mrs. Duren was retired from the Eastern Paper Box Company of Detroit, Mich. and was a member of the Southside Church of Newport. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting. Mrs. Duren was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Duren and nine brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Duren is survived by two sons, James Patrick Degnan of Diamond Bar, Calif. and John Michael Degnan of Romeo, Mich; one daughter, Elizabeth Jean Hammond of Loveland, Colo; one sister-in-law, Elizabeth Koschalk of Toledo, Ohio; fifteen grandchildren; and twenty-five great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at12:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20 at the Southside Church with Rev. Teddy Rhea officiating. Interment will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, 6:00-9:00 p.m.

Jowanda Ruth Camp Howell
Jowanda Ruth Camp Howell of Heber Springs died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003. She was born at Pensacola, Fla. Oct. 27, 1946, where her father was stationed in the Army Air Corps, but she spent most of her life in Arkansas.
Mrs. Howell was preceded in death by her father, Albert Camp, her grandparents and a number of other family members including a close pet dog, Buffy, that she considered her "hairy daughter" for 16 years.
Mrs. Howell is survived by her mother, Barbara Lewis Camp of Newport, her husband, Chuck Howell of Heber Springs, her daughter, Casson Brock of Haskell, her son, Justin Howell of Fayetteville, one brother, Lanny Camp of Newport, one sister Loria ivie of Little Rock, and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 18 in the Olmstead Chapel with Rev. Bennie Foster officiating. Interment followed in the Heber Springs Cemetery. Pallbearers were Eric Brock, Jerry Howell, Louis Short, Jimmy Wilkerson, Perry Howell, Louis Lee, and Dr. Jan Sharp. Honorary pallbearer was Ollie Davis.

Terry Swofford
Terry Swofford, 49, of Berryville, died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001, in Berryville. He was born Aug. 31, 1952, in Berryville, a son of Roy Richard and Laura Lucille (Bailey) Swofford.
Mr. Swofford was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Berryville. He was a supervisor at Tyson Foods.
On May 25, 1991, he married Janine Rae (Ruff) Swofford, who survives him. He is also survived by a daughter, Angelina Swofford; a son, Allen Swofford; a brother, Jerl Swofford and his wife Gayla; his parents, Richard and Laura Swofford; a niece, Lacy Swofford; and a nephew, Gregory Swofford, all of Berryville.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Delores, Swofford; a nephew, Jeffory Swofford; and grandparents, Alfred and Alta Bailey, Albert and Ruth Swofford, Nora and Dave Evans, and Opal Swofford.
Funeral services were set for 2 p.m. today at the First Assembly of God Church in Berryville, with the Rev. Keith Butler and the Rev. Gene Plumlee officiating; and interment to follow in the Hale Cemetery, under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service.

Freeman Parton
Freeman Parton, 79, of Lampe, Mo., died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001, in Hollister, Mo. He was born Aug. 5, 1922, in Enon, a son of Jesse Lee and Rosa Ella (DeLong) Parton.
Mr. Parton was a member of the Highview Assembly of God Church.
On Nov. 22, 1947, he married Elsie Irene (Armentrout) Parton, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a son, Gary Parton; two grandsons, Charles and Jesse Parton; four brothers, Delson, Nathan, Jay and Joe Parton; and two sisters, Ethel Rose and Bonnie Horton.
Survivors include two sons, Richard Parton and his wife Debbie of Lampe, and Larry Parton and his wife Nina of Oak Grove; a daughter-in-law, Janice Parton of Lampe; a sister, Ruth Groves of Lampe; two brothers, Kenneth Parton of Lampe, and Wayne Parton of Blue Eye; nine grandchildren, Kevin, Nicky, Toby, Gary, Wesley and Charlotte Parton, Renee Davidson, Randy Davidson, and Gloria Elmore; 18 great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday at the Highview Assembly of God Church, with the Rev. Robert Fairchild, the Rev. Bill Piker, and the Rev. Roger Ely officiating. Interment followed in the Blue Eye Cemetery, under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service.

Nadene Jones
Nadene Jones, 90, of Green Forest, died Friday, March 1, 2002, at Carroll Regional Medical Center in Berryville.
She was born Dec. 15, 1911, in Green Forest, a daughter of Sterling and Lola Stanhope McNeil.
Mrs. Jones, a lifelong resident of Carroll County, was a homemaker. She was a member of the Green Forest Church of Christ.
She is survived by her husband, Hillman Jones; five grandchildren, Rocky Jones of Rogers, Eddie Jones of Calhoun, Ga., Michelle Evans of Green Forest, Eric Jones of Green Forest, and Jay Jones of Rogers; nine great-grandchildren, Collin Jones and Madaline Jones of Rogers, Tommy John Jones, Justin Luke Jones and Landon Paul Jones of Calhoun, Ga., Kaleigh Evans, Kendall Evans and Billy Evans of Green Forest, and Emma Jones of Rogers; a sister, Clara Lee Stone of Green Forest; and a daughter-in-law, Linda Jones Waggoner of Cloudcroft, N.M.
Funeral services were held on Monday, March 4, at the Green Forest Church of Christ, with Bill McFarland and Ronnie Adams officiating. Burial followed in Pickens Cemetery at Green Forest. Pallbearers were Rocky, Eddie, Eric, and Jay Jones, David Evans and James Norris.
Memorial contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels at the Carroll County Senior Center in Berryville.

Susan E. (Muran) Alibozyk
Susan E. (Muran) Alibozyk, 86, of Eureka Springs, died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002, at her home.
She was born Feb. 3, 1916, in Amsterdam, N.Y., daughter of Kajeton and Elizabeth (Sketras) Murauskas.
Mrs. Alibozyk was an accomplished milliner and seamstress.
On March 17, 1943, she married Frank C. Alibozyk. She and her husband owned and operated The Big Maple Tavern in Perth, N.Y., in the 1950s. In 1959, they moved to Phoenix, Ariz., where she continued to reside following her husband's death in 1961. In 1996, at the age of 80, she moved to Eureka Springs to be near her daughter, Debbie. She was known as Grandma Sue to all.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sisters, and two brothers.
Survivors include her daughters, Deborah Susan Frisbie of Eureka Springs, and Beth Spencer of Lakehead, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.
Burial was Friday, Oct. 11, in the Eureka Springs Cemetery, under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service.
Memorial donations may be made to the Good Shepherd Animal Shelter, 6486 Hwy. 62 West, Eureka Springs, AR 72632.

Eugene Pinkley
Eugene Pinkley, 75, of Shell Knob, Mo., died Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002, at his home.
He was born Aug. 22, 1927, in Berryville, son of Clyde L. and Myrtle J. (Allen) Pinkley.
Mr. Pinkley was a veteran, having served his country with the United States Navy during World War II. He was a sales manager for Gates Rubber Company in Denver, Colo. He was a member of the Brentwood First Christian Church in Springfield, Mo., and a member of the American Legion.
On July 16, 1948, he married Lea Ella (Patton) Pinkley. She preceded him in death, as did his parents.
Survivors include two daughters, Pamelia Sue Strait of San Antonio, Texas, and Shirley Kay Short of St. Louis, Mo.; two grandchildren, Michelle Hale of Aransas Pass, Texas, and Jeff Strait of Dallas, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Morgan Lea Hale, Colin Hale, and Stephen Hale, all of Aransas Pass; and his fiancˇe, Mary Steere of Shell Knob.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Oct. 21, at the Charles M. Nelson Memorial Chapel in Berryville, with Mr. Ronnie Adams officiating. Interment followed in the Berryville Memorial Park Cemetery, under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service.

Ruth Jerryne Jones
Ruth Jerryne Jones, 70, of Harrison, died Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002, in Harrison.
She was born Jan. 2, 1932, in Osage, the only child of Thelma Ruth Sisco and Sigsbee Lee Curnutt.
Mrs. Jones was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Harrison. She was a school teacher, having taught at Dean in Carroll County, and at Alpena. She was a delegate to the 1980 Democratic Convention in New York City.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Claude R. Jones, of the home; a daughter, Claudia Ruth Jones of Harrison; and a son, Claude Jones Jr. of Rapid City, S.D.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. today, Dec. 17, at Hold Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in the Alpena IOOF Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 1100 Bower Ave., Harrison, AR 72601.
