Doris May Matlock
Doris May Matlock, 72, of Green Forest, died Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, in Berryville.
She was born June 24, 1930, in Salamanca, N.Y., daughter of John and Mary (Winterstein) Hamilton.
Mrs. Matlock was a bookkeeper. She also worked for Wal-Mart for seven years.
She attended the First Assembly of God Church in Green Forest.
In 1946, she married Frank Bennett, who preceded her in death.
In 1965, she married James Norman Matlock, who preceded her in death.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, William John; a brother, Peter John Hamilton; and a sister, Arline Bragg.
She is survived by five sons, Frances Bennett of Indianapolis, Ind., Peter John Bennett of Olean, N.Y., Michael W. Matlock of Green Forest, James M. Matlock of Bergman, and Stephen A. Matlock of Springfield, Mo.; three daughters, Linda Lee Worick of Las Vegas, Nev., Mary Ann Welabor of New Zealand, and Mercedes Annette Bennett of Claridge, N.J.; a brother, John Hamilton of Kissimmee, Fla.; two sisters, Magie Van of Salem, Ark., and Elaine Myers of Killbuck, N.Y.; 16 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 29, at the First Assembly of God Church in Green Forest, with Pastor Mark Bryant officiating. Interment will follow the service in the Pickens Cemetery, under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service.
Albert "Archie" Ptasznik
Albert "Archie" Ptasznik, 58, of Eureka Springs, died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002, in Berryville.
He was born Aug. 21, 1944, in St. Louis, Mo., son of Joseph and Flora Rose (Schauer) Ptasznik.
Mr. Ptasznik was a veteran, having served his country with the United States Marines during the Vietnam War.
He was a mechanic for McDonald Mobil in St. Louis for several years.
He was an employee for Sam's Club #8125 in Ferguson, Mo., for 10 years, and was most recently employed by the Wal-Mart Supercenter in Berryville. He was a life member of Am Vets Post 88 and Alton Eagles Aries #254 in Alton, Ill.
On March 31, 1973, he married Leonarda (Certa) Ptasznik, who survives him, of the home.
He is also survived by his son, Albert S. Ptasznik of the home. He was a brother, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin, and friend to many.
Funeral services were set for 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 29, at the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Eureka Springs, with the Rev. Thomas Arackal officiating, and interment to follow in the VA National Cemetery
in Fayetteville, under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service.
Margaret Elizabeth Johnson
Margaret Elizabeth Johnson Cox, 84, of Eureka Springs, died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002, in Eureka Springs.
She was born Dec. 1, 1917, in Lawrenceville, Ill., daughter of John Riley and Ruth Mae Potts Johnson.
Mrs. Cox was a writer, teacher, scholar, mentor, manager, and devoted wife and mother.
She was the Editor-in-Chief of the Tyro Newspaper.
She received a degree in journalism from San Bernardino Valley Junior College in 1938.
During the war, she received her pilot's license.
She retired from Paine Webber in 1973, where she received her stockbroker's license.
On Nov. 23, 1945, she married Johnnie L. Cox, who survives her.
They had been married 57 years.
She is also survived by her three children, Lana Sanders of Grand Terrace, Calif., Chris Cox and wife Jill Jarvis of Kansas City, Mo., and Joan Cox and husband Gary Hurst of Newport Beach, Calif.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
Memorial services were held on Sunday, Dec. 1, at the Grassy Knob Community Center, with Jill Jarvis officiating.
John W. Clay
John W. Clay, 93, of Golden, Mo., died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, in Berry County Care Center, Cassville, Mo.
He was born July 11, 1909, in Golden, Mo., son of Walter and Emily Haggard Clay.
On May 18, 1950, in Arkansas City, Kan., he married Ruby Whitford, who survives him.
He is also survived by a son, Jim Moon of Springfield, Mo.; six grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, two sisters, and a daughter.
Mr. Clay was a farmer and a carpenter. He resided in California for a while.
He spent a portion of his life in Kansas City, where he met his wife, Ruby.
For the last 43 years, he made his home at Golden.
He was a founder and charter member of Light House Pentecostal Church, Eagle Rock, Mo., where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today, Jan. 28, under the direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. The Rev. Jim Clay and Bro. Jody Ray will conduct the services.
Burial will be in Roach Cemetery, Eagle Rock.
Blanche Maye (Swofford) Summers
Blanche Maye (Swofford) Summers, 85, of rural Berryville, died Saturday, March 23, 2002, in Berryville.
She was born Feb. 15, 1917, in Berryville, the daughter of Clarence and Alta (Plumlee) Swofford. She accepted
Christ as her Saviour at an early age.
Mrs. Summers taught school in several rural schools in Carroll County, and she was a retired homemaker.
On Aug. 27, 1938, she married Tim Summers, who survives her.
She is also survived by three sons, Vernone Summers of Berryville, Loren Summers of Hot Springs, and Tim Summers, Jr., of Bentonville; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; four sisters, Ruby Keeland, Ruth Freeman, Vada Austin, and Evelene Loftin, all of Tulsa, Okla.; and a brother, Archie Swofford of Berryville.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services were held on Monday, March 25, at the Charles M. Nelson Memorial Chapel in Berryville.
Interment followed in the Berryville Memorial Park Cemetery, under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service.

Oscar Rudolf Knab
Oscar Rudolf Knab, 94, of Holiday Island, died Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, in Eureka Springs.
He was born Feb. 19, 1908, in Milwaukee, Wis., son of August and Priska (Heinrich) Knab.
Mr. Knab was an architect, working for Sollitt Construction Co.
He was a member of the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Eureka Springs.
His interests included building telescopes, stargazing, painting, woodcarving and photography.
On Nov. 7, 1942, he married Mary (Hoffman) Knab.
They built a Swiss chalet and raised their family in South Bend, Ind.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Knab; their four children, Priscilla Richardson, Douglas J. Knab, Virginia Knab, and Monica Knab; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and six sisters.
A memorial mass was held at the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Eureka Springs, with the Rev. Thomas Arackal officiating.
Christopher Clay Creekmore
Christopher Clay Creekmore, 30, of Monett, Mo., died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, in Springfield, Mo.
He was born April 24, 1972, in Berryville, son of Wanda (Creekmore) Rey.
Mr. Creekmore was an auto mechanic.
He is survived by his mother, Wanda Kay Rey of Monett; two brothers, Benjamin Rey, Jr., of Monett, and Robert Matthew Creekmore and wife Tammy of Richie, Mo.; his sister, Mary J. Bowman of Purdy, Mo.; several nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Jan. 28, at the Charles M. Nelson Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Freddy Blevins officiating. Interment will follow the service in the Blue Eye Cemetery, under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service.
Luther Helms
Luther Helms, 68, of Green Forest, died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, in Green Forest.
He was born March 11, 1934, in Yuba City, Calif., son of James Luther and Blanche Leota Helms.
Mr. Helms was a veteran, having served his country with the United States Army.
He was a mechanic.
He is survived by two sisters, Virgilene Kathryn Hamilton of Yuba City, and Glenna Bohannon of Berryville; several nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Blanche Helms; two brothers, Jay B. Helms and Chauncey Curtis Helms; a sister, Edna Imagene Wheeler; two nephews, Lester Wayne Bohannon and Robert Kenneth Wheeler; a great-nephew, William Brandon McDaniel; and a great-niece, Amanda Jo Bohannon.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Dec. 17, at the First United Methodist Church in Green Forest, with the Rev. David Hanshaw officiating.
Ben H. Spencer
Ben H. Spencer, 72, of Holiday Island, died Thursday, June 13, 2002, at Washington Regional Hospital in Fayetteville.
He was born Sept. 3, 1929. He is survived by his wife, Janey, of the home; two children; five grandchildren; six great- grandchildren; two brothers; and two sisters.
Mr. Spencer and his wife moved to Holiday Island from Fort Smith in May of 1995.
He retired as a Captain from the U.S. Air Force, having served for 20 years.
He became a cattle rancher in Oklahoma and retired the second time before moving to Holiday Island.
Services were held on Monday, June 17, at Dove Circle Baptist Church, where Mr. Spencer served as a deacon. Burial was set for Oakland Cemetery
in Poteau, Okla.
