Agnes Elizabeth “Libby” Edwards
Mrs. Agnes Elizabeth “Libby” Edwards, age 91, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas, and former resident of North Charleston, South Carolina, died Tuesday, September 8, 2009 in De Queen.
She was born to Johannas William and Sarah Elizabeth Stewart Hoffmeyer at Florence, South Carolina, on February 2, 1918. She was retired from Stevenson Zimmerman Company, Charleston, South Carolina, with 46 years services as an executive secretary, as well as a homemaker. She was a member of the North Charleston United Methodist Church, where she taught Kindergarten Sunday School Class for 42 years, and was active in the United Methodist Women She was a member of the B. P. W., where she served as several officers. She enjoyed her church work, flower gardening, and was an avid reader.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, and in 1987, her husband, William Carlton Edwards.
She is survived by three daughters and a son-in-law, Cheryll and John F. Cooper of King, Ark., Jennifer E. Baynard of Summerville, South Carolina, and Marie Ellen Edwards of North Charleston, South Carolina, five grandchildren, Edward M. Marlowe, Jr., Brian William Marlowe, Katrina Michelle Baynard, Allycia Victoria Baynard, and Corey Michael Carlton Baynard, two great-grandchildren, Derek Marlowe, and Kira Marlowe, as well as other family members.
Memorial Services for Mrs. Libby Edwards will be held in the North Charleston United Methodist Church, North Charleston, SC on Friday, September 18, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Reggie Rowell and Rev. David Smith officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until service time, and will continue after the service. Cremation arrangements by Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.
Michael Reed “Mike” Shirley
Mr. Michael Reed “Mike” Shirley, age 62, a resident of De Queen, and former resident of Texarkana, AR, died Friday, September 11, 2009 at his home.
He was born to Artis and Hazel R. Chinn Shirley at Fredericksburg, Virginia, on September 27, 1946. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served in the U. S. Air Force, and retired from the Red River Army Depot, where he was an analyst specialist. He was a Baptist, and enjoyed Fishing, and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, James Timothy Shirley, and his first wife, Nancy Louise Shirley. He is survived by his wife, Joye Lee Miller Shirley of De Queen, a son, Ronald Artis Shirley of Texarkana, Ark., a daughter and son-in-law, Abigail and Chris Wheeler of Oden, Arkansas, one grandchild, Morgan Shirley, a step-son, John Michael, and his wife, LeeAnn Miller of De Queen, two step-daughters, Sherri, and her husband, Bo Frachiseur of Wickes, Ark.; Elizabeth and her husband, Tom Gavigan of Chicago, Ill, twelve step-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Kay Shirley of Russell County, Alabama.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, September 13, 2009 in the Rondo Memorial Park, Texarkana, Ark., with Bro. Gary Steiner officiating, under the direction Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, September 12th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Marion Leslie Johnson
Marion Leslie Johnson, age 69, a resident of Dierks, AR died Saturday, September 12, 2009.
He was born July 10, 1940 in Fouke, AR. He was a retired truck driver, and he was in the U.S. Army stationed in Hawaii during the Vietnam War.
Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin Franklin Johnson and Charlotte Reynolds Johnson and six siblings.
He is survived by four nieces and three nephews; special friends, Barbra Johnson, Wilma Whitaker and the Power family.

Abbie L. Battiest
Abbie L. Battiest, age 82, of Idabel, passed away Monday, September 7, 2009 at De Queen. He was born February 14, 1927 in the Redland Community, the son of Lastie and Ada James Battiest.
He married Verna Williams on April 30, 1949 and she preceded him in death in 1987.
Abbie was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Army. He owned and operated Battiest Plumbing in Idabel for over 45 years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Kulli Tuklo Methodist Church and was a lifetime resident of Idabel.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; an infant son and daughter; and his brother, Abraham Battiest.
Abbie is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Allen and Noe Battiest of Hilo, Hawaii, and Earl and Dana Battiest of DeQueen; daughters and son-in-law, Vivian and Tim Williams, and Velma Battiest all of Idabel; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; sisters, Dorothy Wesley, Violet Sanders, Eva Bacon, Vera Battiest all of Broken Bow, and Emily Basknight of Indianapolis, IN; a step-brother, Virgil Jessie of Weleetka, OK; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Services will be at 2:00p.m. Friday, September 11, 2009 at the Kulli Tuklo Methodist church with Rev. Rosa Baker officiating. Interment will follow in hte Kulli tuklo Cemetery.
Billy Lee "Bill" Stewart
Mr. Billy Lee "Bill" Stewart, age 73, a resident of Wickes, Ark., died Thursday, September 10, 2009, at the De Queen Medical Center.
He was born to Curtis Lee and Mattie Marie Miller Stewart at Fort Worth, Texas, on September 18, 1935. Mr. Stewart served in military with the U. S. Army. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene of Wickes. He and his brother-in-law, Burl Hedge owned and operated a commercial contracting company, as well as a cattleman. He was a member of the Farm Bureau Board of Directors, Mena, Ark., and board member of USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service, Mena, Ark. He enjoyed his work, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Maxine Cook.
He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Pat Hill Stewart of Wickes, two daughters and sons-in-law, Kristy Lee and Scott Moses, and Korrie Marie and Will Hurst, all of Rogers, Ark., three grandchildren, Aubrey, Aiden, and Raffy, a sister, Betty Hedge of Wickes, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mr. Bill Stewart will be held at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, September 12th at the Church of the Nazarene, Wickes, Ark., with Rev. Leon McCleskey and Rev. Tom Hunter officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in the Baker Cemetery, Wickes, Ark., under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, September 11th.
Ruth Janell Penner
Ruth Janell Penner, 70, of Bella Vista, Arkansas died Wednesday, September 9, 2009 at her home in Bella Vista. She was born on February 16, 1939 in Hochatown, Oklahoma to J. D. Clinton and Mamie Murphy Clinton.
She moved to Bella Vista ten years ago from Little Rock, Arkansas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Deryle.
She is survived by one son, Duane Penner of Lowell, Arkansas; one brother, Charles (Patti) Clinton of Arcada, California; five sisters, Marvena (Jerry) Shelley of Lawton, Oklahoma, Bea (Ken) Smith of De Queen, Arkansas, Inez Hudson of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Pat (Jerry) Roberts, of Texarkana, Arkansas, Nelda (Howard) Coulter of Sherwood, Arkansas; two grandsons, Madison F. Penner and James D. Penner; and ten nieces and nephews.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, September 13, 2009 in the Redmen Cemetery
with Rev. Charles Hebert officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

Thomas Steven Wilson
Thomas Steven Wilson, age 39, a resident of Texarkana, Texas died Friday, September 4, 2009 in Hooks, Texas.
He was born January 5, 1970 in De Queen. He was in route sales for Frito-lay and a member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Texarkana, Arkansas.
He is survived by one daughter, Taylyn Wilson of Fouke, Arkansas and her mother, Andrea Browning; his mother, Gladys (McIntyre) Wilson LaGasse of Texarkana, Texas; his father, Thomas Paul Wilson of Lockesburg; one brother, Anthony Wilson of Texarkana, Texas; one sister and brother-in-law, Shelia and Bobby Black of De Queen; two nephews, Nathan Wilson of Texarkana, Texas and Justin Gathright of De Queen.
Graveside Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, September 14, 2009 in the Old Union Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Sunday, September 13th at the funeral home.
Minnie Lee Bassham Harrison
Mrs. Minnie Lee Bassham Harrison, age 94, a resident of Texarkana, Arkansas died Wednesday, September 9, 2009 in the Wadley Regional Medical Center.
She was born August 7, 1915 in Gilmer, Texas. She was a former employee of the Baptist Book Store in Texarkana for 37 years and a member of the County Ave. Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school teacher for 50 years.
Mrs. Harrison was preceded in death by her parents Willie Lane and Fannie Ethel Wilson Bassham; her husband, William E. Harrison on November 22, 1965 and one son, Billy Hoyt.
She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Edward Lane Harrison of Texarkana, Arkansas and Gary C. and Malinda Harrison of Ashdown, Arkansas; one daughter and son-in-law, Jenifer K. and Jack Jones of Texarkana, Arkansas; her grandchildren, William Clark and his fiancé Amanda Allensworth of Texarkana, Arkansas, Regena Broski and husband Timothy of New Boston, Texas, Jill O'Dell and husband Mike of Magnolia, Arkansas, Katie Woodle and husband Bryan of Texarkana, Texas and Amy Harrison of Ashdown, Arkansas; 9 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews in the Lockesburg area.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Harrison will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 12, 2009 in the Bellville Methodist Church near Lockesburg with Rev. Loyd Roper officiating. Burial will follow in the Bellville Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, September 11th at the funeral home.

Billy E. Wilson
Billy E. Wilson, age 68, a resident of De Queen, AR died Tuesday, September 8, 2009 in Texarkana, TX.
He was born April 20, 1941 in Winthrop, AR to Elmer Lee and Estelle Taylor Wilson. He was a long standing local businessman most notably recognized for his sign and truck artwork.
He is survived by his wife Wanda Coburn Wilson of De Queen; a son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Dana Wilson of Chattanooga, TN; a daughter, Lynn Pettit of De Queen; and two grandsons, Manny and Mark Garza.
A memorial service for Mr. Wilson will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 12, 2009 in the Redmen Cemetery
with Rev. Charles Hebert officiating.

Mrs. Louanne Williams, age 85, a longtime resident of De Queen, died Friday, August 29, 2008 in the Christus St. Michael Healthcare System in Texarkana, Texas.

with Rev. David Williams officiating.
She was born May 1, 1923 in De Queen to Carl and Kathryn Brown Williams. She worked for The Dog and Cat Clinic in Shreveport, was a retired secretary and was employed by the De Queen Hospital in the admitting office in the 1980's.
Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Robert G. Williams, Jr.; and one sister, Carla Joan Williams.
She is survived by one daughter, Kathryn Roslansky of Sparks, Nevada and one son, Thomas Patrick Williams of Rockville, Maryland.
Margaret Charlene Willbanks
Mrs. Margaret Charlene Willbanks, age 83, a resident of Texarkana, AR died Monday, September 7, 2009 in Texarkana, TX.
She was born April 9, 1926 in De Queen, AR. She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence William Willbanks on June 16, 2006; a daughter, Terri Lea on March 29, 1956; a sister, Betty Jo Hinson; and her parents, Charles H. and Margie Hobson Prince.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Jerri and George Cooper of New Meadows, Idaho; one son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Martha Willbanks of Texarkana, AR; two grandchildren, Christopher Willbanks and John Warren; and several nieces.
A memorial service for Mrs. Willbanks will be held at a later date.
