Winford P. Sims

Winford P. Sims, 75, of Piggott died Monday, July 10, 2005, at his residence.

He was born May 13, 1930, in Georgiana, Ala., the son of the late Leonard J. and Sadie Louise Pierce Sims.

He was united in marriage to Dallace L. Ruckman on Sept. 30, 1981.

He is survived by his wife, Dallace L. Sims of Piggott; three children, Jennifer Renee Askew and husband, Mike, of Norfolk, Va., Myron Dorinda Marinelli and husband, Cliff, of Virginia Beach, Va., and Billie Ann Clark of Crossville, Tenn.; three sisters, Mary Juanita Townson and husband, Cladie, of Evergreen, Ala., Joy G. Farias of Westminister, S.C., and Minnie F. Carroll and husband, Rudolph, of Westminister, S.C.; one brother, Lamar Sims and wife, Dorothy, of West Covina, Calif.; five step-children, Teresa Roberts and husband, Eugene, of Piggott, Dale Shultz of Piggott, Pamela Busler and husband, Butch, of Dallastown, Pa., Ken Shultz and wife, Pam, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and Val Reaves and husband, Greg, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Robert Goodrich, Jessica Sharp, Justin Sharp, Kari Stemple, Tyler Sims, Tiana Clark, Fallon Russell and Carley Shultz; three great-grandchildren, Ian Ludwig, Alexis Russell and Hayden Sims; and many other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 16, 2005, in the Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Kevin Murray officiating.

John Adrian Pillow

John Adrian Pillow, 80, of Piggott died Monday, July 18, 2005, in the Piggott Community Hospital.

He was born July 3, 1925, in Pollard, the son of the late Samuel R. and Nora Johnson Pillow.

He was united in marriage to Irma L. McGee on Sept. 17, 1949. They had two sons.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Bill; and two sisters, Lorene Nichols and Imogene Underwood.

During World War II he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was stationed at Honolulu, Hawaii, as a firefighter with the Naval Seabees. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Piggott and was a deacon there for over 35 years until illness prevented him from serving. He suffered from Parkinson's Disease for over 19 years.

He was owner of Pillow's Floor Covering, a member of the Piggott Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years, the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He encouraged the erection of the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., and worked on its behalf, but was unable to attend the opening and dedication because of his illness.

He is survived by his wife, Irma Pillow of Piggott; two sons, Mark Pillow and wife, Charlotte, of Batesville and Collin Pillow and wife, Vicki, of Jonesboro; two grandchildren, Ashley Pillow of New Orleans and John Ian Pillow and wife, Jennifer, of Fayetteville; one brother, Thomas PIllow of New Port Richey, Fla.; five sisters, Hazel Johnson of Royal Oak, Mich., Kathleen Seal, Magleen Porterfield and Shirley Whaley, all of Piggott and Barbara Mooney of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 21, 2005, in the New Hope Cemetery in Pollard with Rev. Jack Cole officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Piggott Fire Department.

Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott is in charge of the arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the American Parkinson's Disease Association or the organization of the donor's choice. The association can be reached via mail at 1250 Hylan Boulevard, Suite B, Staten Island, NY 10305-1946.

Leonard "Lee" Miller

Leonard "Lee" Miller of St. Charles, Mo., formerly of Piggott, died on Saturday, July 16, 2005.

He was born Aug. 6, 1937, in Piggott, the son of the late Thomas and Clennie (nee: DeMay) Miller.

Mr. Miller was a sheet metal worker for McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis for 25 years. He was a member of Piggott Masonic Lodge Number 545 and a Red Cross volunteer.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife.

Survivors include three sisters, Betty Cooper of Moscow Mills, Mo., Joyce Harkness and husband, Gordon, of Harvester, Mo., and Janice Swanson and husband, Bruce, of St. Peters, Mo.; one brother, J.C. Miller and wife, Elwanda, of Piggott; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 21, 2005, at the Hoggard and Sons Chapel in Piggott with Jim Shipman officiating. Visitation will be held at the Hoggard and Sons Chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday (today), July 20. Burial will be in the Piggott Cemetery in Piggott.

Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott and Baue Funeral Home of St. Charles were in charge of the arrangements.

Memorials may be sent to the American Heart Association care of Baue Funeral Home, 620 Jefferson Street, St. Charles, MO 63301. Visitation was held in St. Charles at Baue on Tuesday, July 19.

Ora W. "Doby" Vancil

Ora W. "Doby" Vancil, 91, of Pollard died Saturday, July 9, 2005, at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro.

He was a member of Morris General Baptist Church of McDougal.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mary Hitt Vancil; and one grandchild.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Smith Vancil of the home; three sons, Hubert Vancil of Campbell, Hugo Vancil of Omaha, Neb., and Jim Vancil of Newport; two daughters, Marlene Vincent and Betty Hefner, both of Campbell; loving-in-laws; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 12, 2005, in the Irby Funeral Home Chapel with Loy Culver officiating. Burial followed in the Post Oak Cemetery at McDougal. Pallbearers were Jack Forrest, Don Dillard, Jerry Little, Marshall Little, Sonny Rigdon and Kenny Tyler.

Thurl Wilson St. Cin Jr.

Thurl Wilson St. Cin Jr., 64, of St. Francis, died Friday, July 15, 2005, at his home. He was surrounded by family and friends.

He was born on Sept. 7, 1940, in Gideon, Mo., the son of Helen and Sam Cowart and the late Thurl Wilson St. Cin Sr.

He was united in marriage to Sondra Lawson on Aug. 22, 1985.

He was preceded in death by his father; a nephew, Phillip Jones; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Cowart; and a brother-in-law, Bill Rawls.

He is survived by his wife, Sondra St. Cin of St. Francis; one son, Blake Lawson of Alexander, Ark.; his parents, Helen and Sam Cowart of Malden; two very important and special people, Melissa and McKenzie Hopkins of the home; one daughter, Teresa Nagy and husband, Brian, of Piggott; one brother, Ray Cowart and wife, Pat, of Corning; four sisters, Barbara Rawls of Scott City, Mo., Faye Barnett of Dexter, Brenda Uelsmann and husband, Herman, of Cape Girardeau and Jeanie Huddleston and husband, Larry, of Kansas City, Mo.; two grandchildren, Erin and Kelsey Nagy of Piggott; several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, July 18, 2005, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Rev. Charles Cooper officiating. Burial followed in the Piggott Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Terry Hill, Jimmy Hill, Blake Lawson, Aaron Sisson, George Wellman, Earl Sims and Danny Settlemoir. Honorary pallbearers included David Hill, Marty Reisz and Sam Cox.

Leslie Dunlap

Leslie Dunlap, 87, of Piggott died Saturday, July 17, 2005, in the Piggott Community Hospital in Piggott.

He was born on Sept. 17, 1917, the son of the late Charley Ford and Bessie Settlemoir Dunlap.

He was united in marriage to Mary Helen Bond on July 22, 1944. They had five children. She preceded him in death on Oct. 30, 1990. He married Pauline Ort in April of 1995. She preceded him in death in 1996.

He was also preceded in death by one son, David Dunlap; and two brothers, Jewell Ford Dunlap and Kenneth Dunlap.

He is survived by two daughters, Darlene Potter and husband, Steve, of Fagus and Sherrie Watson and husband, Clay, of Southaven, Miss.; two sons, Buddy Dunlap and wife, Stephanie, of Corning and Randell Dunlap and wife, Janette, of Piggott; nine grandchildren, Lance Potter of Cape Girardeau, Alicia Koback of Frankfurt, Germany, Heather and Brooke Watson of Memphis, Keegan, Chase and Mary Dunlap of Piggott and Jacob and Trent Dunlap of Corning; four great-grandchildren, Sidney, Winston and Aubrey Hayes and Holland Watson; and one sister, Rachel May Gower of Piggott.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 19, 2005, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with the Rev. Gary Hancock officiating. Burial followed in the New Hope Cemetery in Pollard. Pallbearers were Bob Gower, Buddy Dunlap, Randy Dunlap, Lenn Holifield, Lance Potter and Jerry Wade Morgan.

Betty Birmingham

Betty Birmingham, 73, of Piggott died Wednesday, July 20, 2005, in the White River Medical Center in Batesville.

She was born Nov. 20, 1931, in Piggott, the daughter of the late Alvin C. Crossno and Mable Rieves Williams.

She was united in marriage to Raymond Birmingham on Oct. 2, 1948. They had three children.

Mrs. Birmingham was baptized in 1954 and a member of the First Christian Church in Piggott. She was a beautician in Piggott for 30 years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Tommy, Earl and Harrison; and two sisters, Fay and Ila.

She is survived by her husband, Raymond Birmingham of Piggott; three children, Marcia Williams and companion, Don Pool, of Batesville, Dale Birmingham of Cheyenne, Wyo., and David Birmingham and wife, Sherry, of Batesville; five grandchildren, Ashleigh, Lindsey, Josh, Bari and Morgan; two great-grandchildren, Daecia and Andre; 11 brothers and sisters, Willie, Raymond, Robert, Thelma, Shirley, Glenda, Sue, June, Virl, Darlene and Carl; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 23, 2005, in the First Christian Church with Duane Dutka and Nathan Martin officiating. Burial followed in the Gravel Hill Cemetery in St. Francis. Active pallbearers were Josh Birmingham, Travis Cashion, Alan Vaughn, Tony Crittenden, Jerry Williams and Leon Williams. Honorary pallbearers included Dallas Patterson, Pete Gordon, Myron Rogers, Vernon Noles, Kenny Parker, H.A. Wellman and Leland Gibson.

James Howard Lankford

James Howard Lankford, 86, of Piggott, died Wednesday, July 20, 2005, in the Piggott Community Hospital.

He was born Sept. 12, 1918, in Rector, the son of the late James Wylie and Callie Foster Lankford.

He was a retired carpenter and custodian for the Piggott School District and was a member of the South Thornton Street Church of Christ in Piggott.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ivalene Vangilder Lankford; one daughter, Glenda Sullivan; one granddaughter, Kristi Small; two brothers, Carl Lankford and Rudy Lankford; and one sister, Lavada Gibson.

He is survived by his wife, Normadene Lankford of Piggott; one son, James Lankford of Searcy; two daughters, Geraldine Wagster of Searcy and Janice Pruett of Rector; one step-son, Charles Morrisett of Piggott; one step-daughter, Carolyn Hollis of Piggott; one brother, Edward Lankford of Valley Station, Ky.; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 22, 2005, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Richard Akins and Willie Sandlin officiating. Burial followed in Purcell Cemetery in Rector. Active pallbearers were John Brawner, Jason Williams, Brent Coomer, Kent Coomer, Ken Roden and Terry Cox. Honorary pallbearers included Bob and Charlotte Hampton, Alex and Sandra Routszong, C.C. Edwards, Donnie and Verna Blake, Dennis and Stacy Blake, Bob and Betty Tidwell, and Terry and JoAnn McLeskey.

Thomas Leslie Easterwood

Thomas Leslie Easterwood, 87, of Eastpointe, Mich., died Thursday, July 14, 2005, in Eastpointe, Mich.

He was born June 6, 1918, in Piggott, the son of Hilliard and Florence Easterwood.

Mr. Easterwood owned Tidy Cleaners, in Warren, Mich., from 1947-1968 then worked at Indian Village Cleaners. He loved fishing, taught Sunday School for more than 60 years and would have celebrated his 67th wedding anniversary on Aug. 17, 2005. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific.

He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Wayne Easterwood; parents, Hilliard and Florence Easterwood; and siblings, Beatrice Ellis and Dallas Easterwood.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Dona; daughter, Deanna Sue Easterwood; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 18, 2005, at Schultz Funeral Home in Eastpointe, Mich., with the Rev. Andy Pratico officiating. Burial will take place in Christian Memorial Cultural Center in Rochester Hills, Mich.

Schultz Funeral Home of Eastpointe, Mich., was in charge of the arrangements.

Shyann Nichole Tucker

Shyann Nichole Tucker, the daughter of Stephanie Tucker, was born July 24, 2005, and died July 24, 2005, at the Piggott Community Hospital.

She is survived by her mother, Stephanie Tucker of Piggott; her grandparents, Jim and Teresa Tucker of Piggott; one aunt, Sarah Zink of Piggott; one uncle, David Tucker of Piggott; a great uncle and aunt, Skippy and Delores Britton of Piggott; and other relatives and friends.

Memorial services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 26, 2005, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Bro. Jerry Massey officiating. Burial followed in Cummins Chapel Cemetery in Pollard.
