Vaughn Gene Bomar

Vaughn Gene Bomar, 71, of Piggott died Sunday morning, Feb. 19, 2006, at Murphy Health and Rehabilitation Center in Piggott.

He was born Nov. 9, 1934, in Blytheville, the son of Enloe Donaldson Bomar and Milie Hatley Bomar.

Mr. Bomar retired from the Piggott Police Department in 1996 after 24 years of service as a police officer in Missouri and Arkansas. He attained the rank of Lieutenant before retiring. Always a proud American, he served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict. While in the Navy, he served on the U.S.S. Merrick, the U.S.S. Bayfield and L.S.T. 1048.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Johnny Barnes; and five sisters, Lena, Vena, Rudy, Maxine and Peggy. His beloved wife, Elaine Montgomery Bomar, also preceded him in death.

He is survived by one sister, Roberta Erwin of Michigan; one daughter, Debbie Kerekes of Grover Beach, Calif.; three sons, Gene Bomar and wife, Penny, of Little Rock, Kevin Bomar of Carmel, Ind., and Kim Bomar of Little Rock; nine grandchildren, Joel, Jeremy, Emily, Kyle, Clayton, Carissa, Connor, Hannah and Micah; one great-grandchild, Debbie Rae; one stepdaughter, Kathy Fuller and husband, John, of Idaho. Mr. Bomar also leaves fond memories for many nieces, nephews, friends and co-workers, including his fellow officer and loyal friend Myron Low of Piggott.

After Mr. Bomar was stricken with cancer and lost his wife, Elaine, in 2004, his life took a very unusual twist. He and his first wife, Arlene of Costa Mesa, Calif., began a long distance relationship that re-kindled a love they thought was lost almost 50 years. Those close to Mr. Bomar believe the spark of that relationship helped lengthen his life.

Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006, at Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24, 2005, at the Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Piggott with his family honoring his memory during the service. Burial followed in the Piggott Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Myron Low, Kenny Parker, Gary Trout, Bill Alstadt, Don Poole and Danny Brown. Honorary pallbearers were Micah Bomar, Connor Bomar, Kyle Bomar, Clayton Herrington, Sam Williams, Richard Tippitt, Curt Williamson, Scott Redman and Justin Moody.

Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott was in charge of the arrangements.

Jackie Don Vaughn Sr.

Jackie Don Vaughn Sr., 47, of Piggott died on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2006, at his home.

He was born July 24, 1958, in Newport, Ore., the son of Donald Lou and Opal Mabelene Hart Vaughn.

He was united in marriage to Sheila Holifield on Feb. 21, 1978.

He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Lou on Jan. 11, 1968; and his mother, Opal on Feb. 23, 1996.

He is survived by his wife, Sheila Vaughn of Piggott; one daughter, Machelle Dawn Ramsey of New Madrid, Mo.; one son, Jackie Don Vaughn Jr. of Piggott; one sister, Louise McMillian of Doniphan, Mo.; one brother, John Bradshaw of Rector; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18, 2006, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Gary Laughlin and John Bradshaw officiating. Burial followed in the Gravel Hill Cemetery in St. Francis. Active pallbearers were Shane Holifield, Shawn Holifield, Darren Poe, Dennis Templeton, Jim Bob Diddle, Gaylon Dunlap, Burl Petty and Elvis Chavez. Honorary pallbearers were Marty Greaney, Steve Ford, Ronald Johnson, Brian Beck, Carl West and Larry Loveless.

Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott was in charge of the arrangements.

Riley "Bill" Purdom

Riley "Bill" Purdom, 84, of Toledo died on Monday, Feb. 6, 2006, in his home of emphysema.

He was born May 4, 1921, in Piggott, the son of the late Corbett and Della (Rodden) Purdom.

He served in the Army during World War II. He worked in Detroit, Mich., for a time, then went back to farming in Arkansas.

He married Mary Lois Lowery in November of 1946. They moved to Oregon in December of 1951. He worked for C.D. Johnson mill, then Georgia Pacific plywood mill in Toledo until his retirement in 1984. He also had a trucking company, Purdom & Sons.

He married Judy Thomas on March 1986.

After his retirement, he enjoyed working on the hill, and was always fixing things. He liked hunting, and cat fishing on the Snake River.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Pearl Weaver and Jewell Bagwell; a step-son, Billy Thomas; and grandson, Jason Purdom.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Purdom of Toledo; sons, Benny Purdom, Ricky Purdom and Billy Purdom, all of Toledo; daughters and sons-in-law, Rhonda and Glen Coxen of Toledo and Anne and Rudy Rivero of Auburn, Calif.; stepchildren, John Thomas, James Thomas and Sandra Lee Thomas; sisters, Alma Lovelady of Toledo, Golda Hill of Toledo, Sylvia Purdom of Toledo, Elois Eason of Valliant, Okla., and Pauline Sheehy of Pompano Beach, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and 15 step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006, at Bateman Funeral Home, who is handling the arrangements.

Thelda Carleene Pemberton

Thelda Carleene Pemberton, 92, died on Monday, Feb. 13, 2006, at Piggott Community Hospital.

She was born on July 25, 1912, the daughter of Andrew and Millie Ellen Parrish.

She married Ora Pemberton on Oct. 6, 1928. He preceded her in death in 1989.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and five sisters.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Pemberton was a farmer and a homemaker. She was a life-long member of Mars Hill Methodist Church at Crockett.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2006, at Ermert Funeral Home in Corning with Rev. Don and Ida Hewett officiating. Burial followed in Mars Hill Cemetery at Crockett. Pallbearers were Kevin Hardin, Keith Hardin, Donald Grissom, Kenny Grissom, Junior Jackson and Darvin Stow.

Ermert Funeral Home of Corning was in charge of the arrangements.

Carl Lucille Casey

Carl Lucille Casey, 81, formerly of the Rector and Pollard areas, died Saturday, Feb. 25, at the Manor Nursing Home in Poplar Bluff, Mo.

Born Feb. 18, 1925 in Clay County to the late Samuel Cagle and May (Creed) Cagle, she was a fancy stitcher for the Brown Shoe Company and a member of Trailers Chapel General Baptist Church.

She also was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan Casey; three brothers, Lylburn, Roy and Billy Cagle, and four sisters, Ruby Henderson, Ruth Bennett, Daisy Cagle and Ellen Moore.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Dennis and Debby Casey of Olathe, Kans.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyne and Stanley Potts of Poplar Bluff and Teresa and Dale Hanners of Campbell, Mo.; companion, Hubert Crane of Fairdealing, Mo.; one brother and sister-in-law, Darwin and Wilma Cagle of Rector; one sister and brother-in-law, Edna and David Melton of Mammoth Spring; seven grandchildren, Tom Hamilton, Crystal Hamilton Doser, Alex Hanners II, Ivan Hanners, Amber Hanners Minton, Derek Casey and Dalton Casey, and eight great-grandchildren, Preston and Jenna Hamilton, Casey and Anabel Doser, Jennifer and Brandon Hanners, Sierra Minton and Beckett Hanners.

Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, at Irby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Gary Hancock officiating. Burial was in Woodland Heights Cemetery in Rector with Irby Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Alex Hanners II, Ivan Hanners, Derek Casey, Tom Hamilton, Amber Minton, Mark Minton, Crystal Doser, David Doser and David Cagle.

Janet McNeely Kriner

Janet McNeely Kriner, 56, of Jonesboro died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2006.

Born Feb. 11, 1950, in Piggott, she was a Registered Nurse for over thirty years.

She was preceded in death by her father, James D. McNeely.

She is survived by her husband, David Kriner; daughter, Jeri Rhein Seabaugh; son, Jason Rhein; daughters, Christie Ollis and Kimberly Kriner; granddaughter, Skylar; mother, Faye McNeely; sister, Carol Rhein; and brother, Don McNeely.

Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2006, at Cathedral Baptist Church in Jonesboro.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Joe McMillon

Joe McMillon, 71, of Frisbee, Mo., died Wednesday, March 1, 2006, at Heritage Nursing Center.

He was born on March 9, 1934, the son of the late Floyd Grover McMillon and Thelma Pearl Dabbs McMillon.

He was united in marriage to Dortha Mae Huffman on May 6, 1950, in Paragould.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one great-grandson; two brothers, Alvie and Almos McMillon; and one sister, Wanda Lee Smith.

Survivors include his wife, Dot McMillon of Frisbee, Mo.; two sons, Pat McMillon and wife, Cammie, of Elsberry, Mo., and Nick McMillon and wife, Susan, of St. Charles, Mo.; one daughter, Jackie McMillon of Frisbee, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 5, 2006, in the McDaniel Chapel at Kennett with the Rev. Hubert Robinson officiating. Burial followed in Mitchell Cemetery at Greenway. Active pallbearers were Nathaniel Sanchez, Craig Beckmann, Michael McMillon, Sean McMillon, C.W. Yordt and Wade Moellering. Honorary pallbearers were Allen Young, Matt Eubanks, Davie Eubanks and Eddie Eubanks.

McDaniel Funeral Home of Kennett was in charge of the arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Mitchell Cemetery at Greenway.

Bill Reagan

Bill Reagan, 78, of St. Peters, Mo., died on Sunday, March 5, 2006, in O'Fallon, Mo.

He was born Dec. 24, 1927, in Patton, Mo., the son of the late George Henry and Della Crites Reagan.

He was united in marriage to Pauline Davis on Nov. 17, 1951. They had two children.

He worked for McDonnell Douglas for 35 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in St. Peters, Mo., and served in the United States Navy.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

He is survived by his wife, Pauline Reagan of O'Fallon; one daughter, Sherry Reagan of O'Fallon; one son, Jerry Reagan of Wright City, Mo.; three grandchildren, Christine Reagan of Wright City, John Reagan of Cottleville, Mo., and Amanda Reagan of O'Fallon; one great-grandson, Andrew Reagan of O'Fallon; one sister-in-law, Geraldine Mann of Piggott; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 7, 2006, in the Hoggard and Sons Chapel with Danny Self officiating. Burial followed in the Piggott Cemetery. Pallbearers were Lonnie Harmon, Donald Wilkes, Jim Graddy, Ronnie Settlemoir, Christopher Wegel and Sam Williams.

Hoggard and Sons Funeral Home of Piggott was in charge of the arrangements.
