Letha Hearne
Letha “Nanny” Hearne, 78, of Morrilton, formerly of Atkins, died Friday, Oct. 4, 2002.

She was born Sept. 30, 1924, in England, a daughter of John and Em-mer Coley. She was a member of Atkins First Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Virgil June Hearne; one daughter, Donna Roland of Morrilton; and one granddaughter.

Memorial service was 11 a.m. Monday at Lemley Funeral Chapel with Dean Hicks officiating. A private burial was at Atkins City Cemetery by Lemley Funeral Service.

Mary Price
Mary Louise Price, 59, of Morrilton died Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002.

She was born Nov. 15, 1942, in Morrilton, a daughter of Bennie and Louise Robert Barnes. She was a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, Jerry Barnes of Morrilton; six sisters, Murlee Perry, Annie Barnes and Maxine Hardiman of Morrilton; Ruby Baker of Pine Bluff, Mildred Jene Hill of Dallas; and Margaret Barnes of Milwaukee, Wis.; four brothers, Jerry Barnes and Joe Barnes, both of Chicago, and Benjamin Barnes and David Barnes, both of Morrilton, and three grandchildren.

Funeral services are 11 a.m. today (Wednesday) at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Dwight D. Davis. Burial will be at Mt. Zion Cemetery by Wilson and Jarrett Funeral Home Inc. Pallbearers will be David Barnes, Ronnie Trezvant, Ben Henry Barnes and Ray Foster. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Mt. Zion.

Henry Mills
Henry Eugene Mills, 63, of Morrilton died Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002.

He was born July 8, 1939, in Morrilton, a son of Bessie Holland Mills of Morrilton and the late Quincy Mills. He retired from Arkansas Power and Light Co.

Other than his mother, survivors include three daughters, Ramona Howard of Russellville, Alicia Duncan and Valerie Mit-chell, both of Conway; one bro-ther, Howard Mills of Kansas City, Mo.; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Baptist Church, Morrilton, by the Rev. Andrew Robinson. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery by Wilson and Jarrett Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Roy Odom, Floyd Jackson, Rickey Mitchell, Mike Williams, Bobby Anderson, and Willie Hardin. Honorary pallbearers will be Terry Trezvant, Alvin Hardin, Harold Cox, Gary Calvin, Jimmy Nelson, and Terry Templeton.

Rosebell ‘Tura’ Polk
Rosebell “Tura” Muliwai Polk, 79, of Center Ridge died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002.

She was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, a daughter of Manuel Demello and Lucy Lukela Demello. Mrs. Polk was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.

Survivors include her husband, Ardith Taylor Polk; one son, James Allen Polk of Springdale; two daughters, Frances Peoples of KaiLuai, Hawaii and Margret E. Dieterich of Kaneohe, Hawaii; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father John Yates officiating. Burial will be at Center Ridge Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.

Rosary will be 7 tonight (Wednesday) at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Taylor Allen Polk, William Allen Polk, Timbo Honeycutt, Frank McCarthy, Fred Zimmerman, and Woody Ring. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Wilson, Marion Rossi, and Junior Latimer.

Willie McCray
Willie Joe McCray, 76, of Conway died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002.

He was born March 29, 1926, in Conway, a son of Tex and Bertha Mason McCray. He was a retired Navy veteran and member of the American Legion and United Baptist Church. He was the widower of Lizzie Ruth Cobbs McCray.

Survivors include one son, Krammon of Boston, Mass.; one daughter, Vanice McCray of Boston, Mass.; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at United Baptist Church by the Rev. William Forté. Burial will be at Ray Cemetery by Larry G. Acklin Funeral Home, Conway.

Pallbearers will be Odell Hammons, Steve Flood, Derrick McCray, Marvin Bedford Jr., Phillip McCray, and Robert Crenshaw.

Visitation is 2 to 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home in Conway.

Dovie Hogue
Dovie Chapman Hogue, 951¦2, of Little Rock died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002.

She was a member of Rosehill Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Monticello.

Survivors include two sons, Bob Charles Chapman of Bigelow, and Daniel John Chapman of San Diego, Calif.; two stepdaughters, Jane Jordon of Monticello and Judy Thurman of Crossett; and eight grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Qualls officiating. Interment will be in Pinecrest Memorial Park.

Michael Cagle
Michael Lee Cagle, age 38, a lifetime resident of Conway County died Sunday, December 1, at St. Anthony’s hospital in Morrilton.

A son of the late Jacob Lavell Cagle and Bonnie Faye Stacks Cagle, Michael was born in Morrilton on August 5, 1964. He was employed by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission where he worked as a radio dispatcher. He was a member of the First Assembly of God and also a member of Christian Motorcyclists Association, known as the GAP Riders. Michael enjoyed spending his time riding his motorcycle, fishing and playing with his cat.

Michael is survived by his wife, Carol Cagle of Plumerville; one son, Justin Michael Cagle of Texarkana, Ark.; one daughter, Ashley Marie Cagle of Texarkana, Ark.; his mother, Bonnie Cagle of Plumerville; three brothers, Randy Cagle of Conway, Neil and Shawn Cagle, both of Plumerville; two sisters, Anita Mabry of Jacksonville, Fla., and Cynthia Reynolds of Plumerville;

Memorial service will be 2 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Morrilton First Assembly officiated by the Rev. Ronnie Freeman.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christian Motorcyclists Association of Conway, P. O. Box 1682, Conway, Ark. 72033.

Arrangements are by Bob Neal and Sons, Morrilton.

Pat Moore
Pat Moore, 62, of Perryville died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002.

Survivors include her husband, Sonny Moore; two children, Darla Martini and Steve Moore; three brothers; father; and five grandchildren.

Funeral service was Tuesday at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was at Harmony Cemetery on Highway 10.

Betty McCoy
Betty Jeffries McCoy, age 79, of Huntersville, North Carolina, passed away Nov. 17, 2002.

She was born March 26, 1923, a daughter of the late Tom and Nellie Jeffries. Mrs. McCoy was born in Fredrick, Oklahoma and spent most of her life in Rogers, Arkansas. She was the widow of William R. “Bill” McCoy, a homemaker, and of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include her daughters, Mary McCoy and Pat McCoy and grandson Austin Hill, all of Huntersville, North Carolina.

Funeral services were 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 2, at the Harris Chapel with Mr. Julian Reynolds officiating. Burial was at Grandview Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.

Pallbearers were John Moll, Tim McCoy, Dan McCoy, Billy Dan McCoy, Curtis Hill, and Wallace Fort.

Willie Lee Joyner
Willie Lee Thornton Joyner, age 83, of Morrilton, Arkansas, died Saturday, November 30, 2002.

She was born January 4, 1919, in Buckville, Arkansas, in Garland County, a daughter of Robert Lee and Eula Roper Thornton.

Mrs. Joyner was a retired kindergarten secretary from Stuttgart School district, an active member of the Morrilton First Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher, and an Eastern Star past Worthy Matron. She was a member of Morrilton Country Club, a member of the Women’s Golf Association where she was an avid golfer and won many honors as a golfer, a former secretary for Arkansas Women’s Golf Association, and member of the Adelaide Club. Mrs. Joyner was also a volunteer for many charitable organizations and events and was an election poll worker at Reynolds School for 15 years.

Survivors include her spouse of 64 years, Don E. Joyner, of Morrilton; sister, Dana Thornton Simpson of Greeley, Colorado; nephews, Bob Dozier of Little Rock, Eugene Dozier of Hot Springs, Robert Thornton of Houston, Texas, and Don Simpson of Olathe, Kansas; nieces, Judy Banz of Greeley, Colorado and Shirley Ertel of Orange Vale, California.

Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 3, at Harris Chapel with Dr. Bill Brown officiating. Burial was at Forest Hills Cemetery in Alexander, Arkansas, by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton. Pallbearers were Ray Hanson, Leon Dunn, Sam Callihan, Bill Stacks, Bill Hubbard, and Harry Caldwell.

Memorials may be made to the Morrilton First Baptist Church.

Jean Mitchell
Jean Skipper Mitchell, 86, of Atkins died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, in her home.

She was born Sept. 7, 1916, in Morrilton, Arkansas, a daughter of the late N.B. Skipper and Florence Scanlan Skipper. She was the widow of James C. Mitchell, a homemaker, and member of Atkins First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include one son, David Mitchell of Atkins; one grandson, Justin Mitchell of Little Rock; and a host of very special friends.

Mrs. Mitchell was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. Edward Huie.

Funeral services were 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, at Harris Chapel with the Rev. Robert E. Woody officiating. Burial was at Elmwood Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.

Pallbearers were Wade Austin, Jon Wilkerson, T.R. White, Pat O’Brien, Kenny Barnes, and Sean Rehm. Honorary pallbearers were Janet Mathis, Betty Wiley, Holly Laymon, Millie Laymon, Mary Turner, Pat Duvall, and Kathleen Napier.

Memorials may be made to the Atkins Centennial Library or Elmwood Cemetery.

Lloyd J. Brents
Lloyd J. Brents, 80, of Morrilton died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003.

He was born Aug. 4, 1922, in Cleveland, Arkansas, a son of William Thomas Brents and Carrie Francis Brents. Mr. Brents was retired from Crompton Mills, member of Springfield Missionary Baptist Church, a World War II Army veteran, and a member of the DAV and AARP.

Survivors include his daughter, Patsy Chapman of Springfield; two sisters-in-law, Leone Crye of Springfield and Shopia Brents of Tennessee; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, at Harris Chapel with Bro. James Mullins officiating. Burial was at Springfield Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.

Pallbearers were Jimmy Crye, George Crye, James Mallett, Jeff Crowder, Bill Williams, and Jim Parks.

Bill Sweeden
Bill Sweeden, 72, of Morrilton died Thursday, January 30, 2003.

He was born February 22, 1930, in Atkins, Arkansas, a son of Marshall and Hester Dixon Sweeden. Mr. Sweeden was a Navy veteran, member of the First United Methodist Church and retired owner of the family business, Sweeden’s Betterburger.

Survivors include his wife, Nina Judkins Sweeden; sons and daughters-in-law, Preston and Pat Sweeden and Myron and Loretta Sweeden, all of Morrilton. He was affectionately called “Papa Bill” by his grandchildren, Cassandra, Sean, Mallory, and Jon Ross Sweeden. He is also survived by his brothers, Ted Sweeden of Atkins, Jimmy Sweeden of Little Rock, and Emmett “Britch” Sweeden of Greenville, Mississippi.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Raymond Sweeden, and sister, Betty Jean McElroy.

Funeral services were 3 p.m. Saturday, February 1, at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Wm. Christopher Cooper and the Rev. Von D. Mooney officiating. Burial was at Atkins Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.

Pallbearers were Michael Blanchard, Jim Caldwell, Jackie Sweeden, Brian Sweeden, Ricky Sweeden, Erick Sweeden, Tommy O’Donell, and Tony Sweeden.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church.

Glenn Allen Summers
Glenn Allen Summers, age 67, of Morrilton died Friday, January 31, 2003.

He was born July 6, 1935, in Perry, Arkansas, a son of Oscar Summers and Ellen Rudkins Summers. He served in the National Guard and was a retired sales supervisor for Dean Foods Company and a member of the Perry Baptist Church. Mr. Summers also served as secretary/treasurer of the Arkansas State Repeater Council and was a member of the Conway County Amateur Radio Club.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Sroczynski Summers of Morrilton; one brother, Leo Summers of Perry; two sisters, Rada Sue Eubanks of Perry and Mary Ann Summers of Perry; several nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, Evelyn Sroczynski of Morrilton; and his brother-in-law, Jimmy Lewis of Gulfport, Mississippi.

Funeral services were 1 p.m. Tuesday, February 4, 2003, at the Harris Chapel with Mr. Mickey Burleson officiating. Burial was at Middleton Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the local Humane Society.

Pallbearers were Jimmy Eubanks, Ron Lewis, Bill Caudell, John Robert Hawkins, Bob Flowers, and Jerry Eubanks.
