Bill Stroud

Bill Stroud, age 74, of Jerusalem, Arkansas, died Monday, March 29, 2004.

He was born August 27, 1929, in Jerusalem, Arkansas, a son of Oda Stroud and Ella Lee Ramsey Stroud. He was a retired truck driver for the Conway County Road Department, and member of Jerusalem Church of Christ.

Survivors include four sisters, Frances McCoy of Jerusalem, Bennie Bradley of Dardanelle, Shirley Bradley and Judy Massey, both of Jerusalem; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, John Stroud and Charles Price.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, April 1, at the Jerusalem Church of Christ. Burial will be at Robertstown Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.

The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. Wednesday, March 31, at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be his nephews and honorary pallbearers will be the Atkins Nursing Home staff.

Phillip James

Phillip R. James, age 64, died Sunday, March 28, 2004, at his home north of Morrilton.

Phillip was born near Morrilton to the late Andrew James and Myrtle Groom James on April 11, 1939. Phillip was a Morrilton High School graduate and was employed at the Agri Co-op Supply for almost 46 years. Phillip was a member of Conway County Cattlemen’s Association, was active with Conway County Fair Association in sales and gate admissions, and attended Morrilton Church of the Nazarene.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Sparkman James; three sons, Andy James, Randy James and wife Dana and Bobby James; one daughter, Donna Powers and husband, B.J.; one stepson, Michael Wright and wife Shannon, all of Morrilton; two stepdaughters, Michelle Wright Hernandez and husband, Leo, of Manhattan, Ill., and Melissa Rathbun Brents and husband Billy of Morrilton; one sister, Rachel Hill and husband Jerry of Morrilton; one nephew, Stacy Hill and wife Lisa of Morrilton and one niece, Melissa Hill Shipp and husband Steve of Morrilton; 12 grandchildren, Jessica and Frank James of Alma, Arkansas; Josh James of Solgohachia; Meghan Denoyer, Isabelle and Lilah Hernandez, all of Manhattan, Ill.; Tyler Brents of Vilonia; Mitchell, Blake, Madilyn Brents, Jordan and Bailey Wright of Morrilton.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 31, at Harris Chapel with Bro. Ellis Clark and Bro. Bud Stracner offiicating. Burial will be at Campground Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.

Pallbearers will be Carl Poteete, Bobby Yarbrough, Jimmy Hart, Russell Jennings, James Williams, and Jimmy Miller.

Tanyia Fletcher

Tanyia Lynn Fletcher, 46, formerly of Little Rock, died Thursday, March 25, 2004.

Miss Fletcher was born July 10, 1957, in Arkadelphia, and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include her parents, Jim and Emma Jones Fletcher of Cherry Hill, N.J.; and one sister, Karen Missler of Cherry Hill, N.J.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Welcome Home Missionary Baptist Church near Casa with the Rev. Denver Robinson officiating. Burial will be at Aunt Dilly Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.

Pallbearers will be Carroll West Jr., Billy Ward, Phillip Ward, M.B. Jones, Billy Jones, and Virdie Robertson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to “Special Olympics,” 1325 G. St., N.W. Suite 500, Washington, D.C. 20005, Attn: Steve Scott.

Rom Laurenzi

Rom Laurenzi, 78, of Fayetteville, Tenn., died Tuesday, March 23, 2004.

He was a native of Viareggio, Italy, and the son of Julius and Leonora Laurenzi. He was a World War II, the Korean Conflict, and was a retired management consultant with the U;S. Army Missile Command. He was a Catholic.

Survivors include his wife, Bobbye (McCullough) Laurenzi, formerly of Plumerville; two sisters, Evelyn L Laurenzi, and Mary J. Laurenzi, both of Memphis; and one brother, Joseph Laurenzi of Memphis.

Funeral services were 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony Catholic Church with Father Joxe Kariabam officiating. Burial was in Memphis Memory Gardens at 2 p.m. Friday by Higgins Funeral Home.

Robert Adams

Robert E. Adams, 86, of Maumelle died Sunday, March 21, 2004.

He was born Oct. 24, 1917, in Bigelow to Irving and Emma Adams. He was a member of Levy Baptist Church and with the USS Wasp Stinger Club CV7 since 1973. Back in the ’30s, he was an outstanding basketball player at Bigelow High. In 1937 to 1939 he served in CCC Camp at Hollis, then entered the Navy in 1940 and served in World War II. He worked for VA for 40 years and served in the Naval Reserve for 31 years. He was the widower of Johnnie Faye (Doughty) Adams.

Survivors include three sons, Gary Adams, Mike Adams and Mark Adams; two brothers, William Adams and Irving Paul Adams; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services were 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Levy Baptist Church in North Little Rock with the Rev. Al Sparkman and Chaplain Hal Session officiating. Interment was at Little Rock National Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Levy Baptist Church.

Scott Boyett

Scott Harold Boyett, 45, died Thursday, March 18, 2004.

He was born July 28, 1958.

Survivors include one son, Glen Scott Boyett; one daughter, Britny Lynn Boyett; parents, Glen and Johnnie Mae Boyett; and one sister, Glenda Bagwell.

Graveside service was 3 p.m. Tuesday, at Forest Hills Memorial Park in Alexander. Arrangements were made through Huson Funeral Home, Little Rock.

Daniel Cone

Daniel E. Cone, 26, of Little Rock died Sunday, March 21, 2004.

He was born Jan. 22, 1978, in Little Rock. He was a son of the late Estes Cone.

Survivors include his mother, Melinda Hoover and stepfather, Willie Hoover of Conway; stepmother, Lori Cone; one brother, Noah; and one sister, Kaylie, all of Little Rock.

Funeral services were 2 p.m. Wednesday, at North Little Rock Funeral Home. Burial was at Hope Cemetery.

Ruby Alexander

Ruby Earl Alexander, 66, of St. Louis, died May 24, 2004.

He was born July 25, 1937, in Morrilton, a son of Ruby Earl and Margette Alexander. He was a member of Mount Airy Baptist Church in St. Louis.

Survivors include one son, Earl Caldwell of St. Louis; two daughters, Earline Harris of St. Louis, and Cassandra White of Plumerville; one brother, R.T. Alexander of Little Rock; one sister, Rubline Alexander of Louisville, Ky.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were May 29 at Wade Funeral Home Inc., St. Louis. Burial was at Lake Charles Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Roland Parks, James Baker, Myron Brockington, Leanard Wright, Charles Parks, and Robert Parks.

Flonnie Bartlett

Flonnie Rhea Hayes Bartlett, 78, of Morrilton died Friday, June 4, 2004.
She was born Oct. 23, 1925, in Atkins, a daughter of Floyd T. Hayes and Lela (Reid) Hayes. She was a member of Riverview Baptist Church, and the widow of Paul Bartlett.
Survivors include five sons, Kenneth W. Bartlett of Rhodelia, Ky., Michael P. Bartlett of Jacksonville, Fla., Robert P. Bartlett and Donald B. Bartlett, both of Morrilton, and Steven H. Bartlett of Russellville; three daughters, Patti L. Childress and Phyllis A. Giddens, both of Morrilton, and Pamela Jean Watkins of Center Ridge; one sister, Clara Henderson of Morrilton; 11 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Monday at Riverview Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Atkinson officiating. Burial was at Wolf Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.
Pallbearers were Bruce Bartlett, Kenny Bartlett Jr., Jerry Childress Jr., Matthew Bartlett, Cody Bartlett, and David Hill. Honorary pallbearers were Brian Hensley and Bill Edwards.

James Byers

James J. Byers, 92, of Hattieville died Saturday, May 29, 2004.

He was born Feb. 14, 1912, in Cleveland, a son of Walter and Carrie Byers. He was a member of Moores Chapel AME Zion Church where he was chairman of the Trustee Board many years, class leader, Sunday School teacher, member of the Do-Ra-Me Choir, and president of the Conway County and Adjacent County Singing Union. He was a carpenter and bus driver and president of the Center Community Center. He was the widower of Ida (White) Byers.

Survivors include five children, Reola White and James N. Byers, both of Cleveland, Macola Jenkins, Larry Byers, and Robert Byers, all of Kansas City, Mo.; three brothers, Frank Byers of Morrilton, Dan Byers of Cleveland, and Harris Byers of Kansas City, Mo.; one sister, Ruby McDaniel of Morrilton; 30 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were 11 a.m., Saturday at Moores Chapel AME Zion Church by Elder Clarence Hobbs. Burial was at Moores Chapel Cemetery by Wilson and Jarrett Funeral Home, Inc.

Pallbearers were his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Board of Trustees.

Wilma Campbell

Mrs. Wilma Jean Egger Campbell, 79, of Mayflower, formerly of West Memphis, Ark., died Friday, June 4, 2004.

She was born Sept. 6, 1924, in Bigelow, to William Edward Egger and Emma Cassie Johnson Egger. She was a member of Bigelow Baptist Church. She did volunteer work at the VA Hospital in Memphis, and was on the board of the Ladies Auxiliary there.

Survivors include her husband, Johnnie Ray Campbell; daughters, Janet Oaks of Mayflower, Carolyn Hovenkamp of Conway, Kay Ross of Bogata, Texas; brother, Marion Egger, of Tyler, Texas; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were 2 p.m. Sunday at Bigelow Baptist Church with the Rev. James Wilson officiating, followed by burial at Volman Cemetery in Bigelow.

Pallbearers were Woody Burge, Robert Burge, David Andrews, Jeff Glover, Brett Johnson, and Bart Johnson.

Memorials may be made to Volman Cemetery Fund, c/o Chart Bank, Bigelow. Services were under the direction of Griffin-Leggett Conway Funeral Home.

Darla Capps

Darla Ellene Geddes Capps, age 68, of Oppelo, Arkansas, died June 6, 2004.
She was born December 11, 1935, in Woodward, Oklahoma, a daughter of Jay Geddes and Edith Lewis Geddes. Mrs. Capps was the widow of Arvil Capps, a retail sales clerk, and of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her son, Jeremy Capps of Oppelo; daughters, Sue Grady of Oppelo, Dena Owens of Conway, and Debbie Lowery of Tuttle, Oklahoma; sister, Dixie Lack of Enid, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, and preceded in death by brother, Lowell Jay Geddes.
Funeral services will be 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 9, at Harris Chapel with Bro. Jimmy Lee Chronister officiating. Burial will be at Kilgore Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy Capps, Phillip Boughton, Nick Hardin, Lance Duncan, Henry Grady, and Dennis Grady. Honorary pallbearer will be Cpl. John D. Reiss.

Gwen Church

Gwen Church, 60, of Hattieville, died Saturday, June 5, 2004.
She was born May 5, 1944, in Dos Palos, Calif., a daughter of Troy Reid and Lela Mae Howard Reid. She was a retired nurse’s assistant at St. Anthony’s Hospital and member of Morrilton First Assembly of God.
Survivors include her husband, Ronald “John” Church of Hattieville; one son, Kevin Collins of Morrilton; one stepson, Greg Church of Jerusalem; two sisters, Ruth O’Neal and Dorlis Haase; four brothers, Kenny Reid, Tony Reid, Allen Reid and Dennis Reid; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services were 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 8, at Morrilton First Assembly of God with the Rev. Ronnie Freeman and the Rev. Trent Gabbard officiating. Burial was at Reid Cemetery by Harris Funeral Home of Morrilton.
Pallbearers were Karmen O’Neal, Jason Reynolds, Steve Condley, Scott Church, Bruce Reid, Clayton Church, and Bobby Church.

Derek Cooper Sr.

Derek Cooper Sr., 42, of Las Vegas died May 10 in a local hospital.

He was born Dec. 3, 1961, in New Orleans, La. He was a cook at Circus Circus.

Survivors include his wife, Paulette A. Cooper; three daughters, Nicole A. Thorpe of Morrilton, and Danielle Netters-Cooper and Jazmine K. Cooper, both of Las Vegas; two sons, Derek Cooper Jr. and Jered Cooper, both of Las Vegas; his father, Joseph Cooper Sr. of New Orleans; his mother, Lula Whitfield of Harvey, La.; five brothers, Joseph Cooper Jr. of Atlanta, Ga., Barry Cooper Sr. of Newport News, Va., Kenneth Cooper of Las Vegas, Chanson Cooper of New Orleans and Emerson Whitfield III of Harvey, La.; two sisters, Rhonda Crockett of New Orleans and Kelly Cooper of New York City.

Thomas and Jones Funeral Home handled private arrangements.

Margaret Dunaway

Margaret Mozelle Dunaway, 85, of Conway died Thursday, June 3, 2004, at her residence.

She was born March 8, 1919, in Dumas, the daughter of Ca-leb M. and L.G. Brasfield. Mrs. Dunaway graduated from University of Central Arkansas with a bachelor of arts degree. She taught and retired as an eighth-grade English teacher from the Conway School District in 1981. She was a charter member of the 20th Century and the Junior Auxiliary Clubs. She was a member of the Conway PEO Club. She was the widow of William Oscar “Bill” Dunaway Sr.

Survivors include a son, Bill Dunaway Jr., of Conway; two daughters, Margo Taylor of Norfolk, Va., and Suzanne Harris of Morrilton; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services were 2:30 p.m., Sunday at the Roller McNutt Chapel in Conway, officiated by Dr. R. Dale Wicker Jr. Burial was at Crestlawn Memorial Park.

Eugene Ferguson

Eugene Ferguson, 95, of Conway died Sunday, June 6, 2004.

He was born Aug. 23, 1908, in Lonoke County, a son of John and Alfia Ferguson. He was a retired truck driver and a member of Greater Mt. Olive Baptist Church where he served as trustee.

Survivors include his wife, Willie Mae (Garrett Warren) Ferguson; two sons, James Warren and Millard Warren, both of Detroit; three daughters, Jo
Ann Acker, Helen Criswell, both of Springfield, and Linda Warren of Plumerville; 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Greater Mt. Olive Baptist Church by the Rev. Murry Tucker. Burial will be at Mt. Olive Cemetery by Larry G. Acklin Funeral Home, Conway.

Family visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Ralph Holland

Ralph Euell Holland, 79, of Little Rock died Tuesday, June 1, 2004.

He was born May 30, 1925, in Bauxite. He coached at Morrilton and Paris and at Little Rock Central until 1969, when he became manager of Waste Management Inc., a job he held until 1986. He graduated from Ouachita Baptist University, and held a master’s degree from the University of Arkansas. He was a deacon at Parkway Place Baptist Church. He was a member of Rotary and was a Mason, and performed many services for Potter’s Clay Home for Abused Women in Hot Springs. He was a World War II veteran.

Survivors include two daughters, Karen Kennedy of Little Rock and Cindi Brown of Greensboro, N.C.; two brothers, Lilburn Quintin Holland and Eulon Fred Holland, both of California; eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Funeral services were at Parkway Place Baptist Church at 10 a.m. Thursday with burial at Pinecrest Cemetery by Griffin-Leggett-Healey and Roth Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Parkway Place Baptist Church, 300 Parkway Place Drive, Little Rock, AR 72211.
