HELEN GOODMAN

Helen E. Goodman, 80, of Van Buren died Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2000, in a local nursing home. She was retired from Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. She graduated from Fort Smith High School in 1938 and was a graduate of Westark Community College. She was a member of P.E.O., a member and past president of Van Buren Garden Club and a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church. She was the widow of Harley Goodman.

Funeral mass will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Michael’s Catholic Church with burial at Calvary Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.

She is survived by one daughter, Annabelle Monnet of Tulsa; one son, Bill Goodman of Little Rock; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be John Barnwell, Harper Jackson, Aronald Bogner, Reyes Ruiz, Roy Young and Robert Hightower.

Memorial contributions may be made to Arkansas Cancer Research, Slot 632, 4301 W. Markham St., Little Rock, AR 72205-9985.

JERRY BARGER SR.

ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Jerry Bob Barger Sr., 64, of St. Louis, Mo., formerly of Coal Hill died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, in his home. He was a 1954 graduate of Coal Hill High School. He retired as a forklift driver for Rehoux after 34 years.

Funeral mass was held Oct. 16 at Epiphany of our Lord Church in Ivanhoe, Mo., with interment at Mount Hope Cemetery under the direction of Calcaterra Funeral Home.

He is survived by his wife, Sandy; one daughter, Jeannie of St. Louis; two sons, Jerry Barger Jr. of St. Louis and Michael Barger of Indianapolis; two step-children, Tom and Mary; two brothers, James and Galen, both of Philadelphia; and six grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Lavon and Dee Yates and friends and relatives from the St. Louis area.

IVIE MEREDITH

MENA — Ivie Lecie Holbert Meredith, 75, of Mena died Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2000, in Mena. She was a cook and a cattle and chicken rancher. She was a member of Salem Baptist Church in Nunley and the widow of Brooks LeRoy Meredith.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Beasley-Wood Funeral Home Chapel in Mena with burial at Pinecrest Memorial Park.

She is survived by three daughters, Lecia Meredith Davis and Linda Evans, both of Mena, and Cathy Burke of Broken Bow, Okla.; one son, Scott of Burns, Wyo.; one sister, Gloria Morgan of Texas; two brothers, Gilbert Holbert of Oklahoma and Grady Holbert; seven grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Pallbearers will be John Hoban, James Hankins, Allen and Glenn Stewart and Richard and Roger Driver.

ROBERT FOX

MENA — Robert Edward Fox, 36, of Mena died Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2000, in a Mena hospital. He was a mechanic and a Baptist.

The body was cremated. Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Hall Funeral Service Memorial Chapel in Mena.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy; three daughters, Allison, April and Amanda, all of the home; two step-children, Mercedes Wright of DeQueen and Korie Wilhite of the home; and his parents, Charles and Alice Fox of Acorn.

BEATRICE PARKER

RUDY — Beatrice P. Parker, 56, of Rudy died Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2000. in a local hospital. She was a homemaker, a member of Bethlehem Free Will Baptist Church and the widow of Earnest Parker Sr.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Central Free Will Baptist Church with burial at Mayberry Cemetery in Central under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.

She is survived by two daughters, Brenda Brewer of Van Buren and Rita Nowotny of Natural Dam; one son, Earnest Parker Jr. of Rudy; and seven grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Matthew and Jeremy Nowotny, Nicholas Brewer, Kyle Fairfield, Brad Baggett and Brandon Shumard.

The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

JERRY STEVENSON

Jerry Eugene Stevenson, 55, of Fort Smith died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000, in a local hospital. He was an Army veteran.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at King Solomon Baptist Church with burial at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Rowell-Parish Mortuary of Fort Smith.

He is survived by his companion, Stella Jean Parks; four daughters, Lavonna and Lalonna Releford, Tiffany Parks and Pamela Jenkins, all of Fort Smith; five sons, Ricky and Anthony Releford and Anthony, Gerry and Titus Parks, all of Fort Smith; his parents, John Daniel and Essie Stevenson of Fort Smith; four sisters, Patricia Wheatt of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Margaret Stevenson, Paula Releford and Anntionette Lofton, all of Fort Smith; six brothers, John Edward and Daniel Paul, both of Portland, Ore., Samuel and Michael, both of Fort Smith, Jarvis of Detroit, Mich., and Malcolm of Vian; and 16 grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Willie Polk, Jerome Lofton, Willie Adams Jr., Patrick and Lemuel Parks Jr. and Renee Rodriquez.

The family will receive friends at 1014 N. 37th St.

WILLIE WRIGHT

BOONEVILLE — Willie Marian Wright, 92, of Booneville died Wednesday. Nov. 1, 2000, in her home. She was a music teacher, a Sunday school teacher and a member of Parkview Baptist Church in Booneville.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at Oak Hill Cemetery in Booneville under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home of Booneville.

She is survived by two daughters, Wendy Tygart and Carolyn Bowen, both of Booneville; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Mike, Phil and Jonathan Tygart, J.J. and Reza Ghassimi, Boyce McBride, Harlan Sory, Leonard Hays, Orville and Marion Wilkins and Loyd Burrows.

The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

CLIFTON HARRIS

ALMA — Clifton Junior Harris, 42, of Alma died Monday, Oct. 30, 2000, in a local hospital. He was a truck driver for Gryner Construction in Alma and a Baptist.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Ocker Funeral Home Chapel in Alma with burial at Newberry Chapel Cemetery in Alma.

He is survived by his wife, Sally; three daughters, Misty Harris of the home, Mandy Harris of Van Buren and Diana Ritchie of Bentonville; one son, Clifton of the home; three sisters, Joyce Lamproe and Judy Solley, both of Van Buren, and Barbara Honea of Fort Smith; seven brothers, Kenneth, Dennis, Jerry and Roger, all of Van Buren, Eugene of Mountainburg, Bill of Midland, and Steve of Fort Smith; and two grandchildren, Trevor Harris and Spencer Ritchie.

Pallbearers will be Johnny Solley, Henry Stacy, Paul Jones, Donald Ellenbarger, Bud Finney, Homer Langley and Jerry and Bobby Blair.

FRED GOIN

VIAN — Fred J. Goin, 83, of Vian died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, in Vian. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, a piano maker for Baldwin Piano and Story and Clark Piano and a Protestant.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Box Cemetery, north of Vian, under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth; one step-daughter, Brenda Abdel-Khaleq of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; one son, Jerry W. Goin; two step-sons, Jim Claxton of Florida and Pat Lane of Vian; and 10 grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jim Claxton, Pat Lane, Jerry Goin and Heimi Abdel-Khaleq.

The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

OTA TAYLOR

Ota Taylor, 92, of Van Buren died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, in a local hospital. She was retired from the Boston Store. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Van Buren and the widow of G. Roy Taylor.

Graveside service will be 3 p.m. today at Fairview Cemetery in Van Buren under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home in Van Buren.

She is survived by one niece, Charlotte Fussell Shockley of Lorton, Va.

LORENE MILLER

HEAVENER — Lorene Miller, 73, of Heavener died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, in Heavener. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Heavener.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Heavener with burial at Hodgen Cemetery under the direction of Dowden Funeral Home of Heavener.

She is survived by one son, Joe of Midwest City, Okla.; two sisters, Margaret Kelley of Heavener and Della Keith of Tulsa; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

HEAVENER — Jerry “Boob” Terry, 60, of Heavener died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, in Fort Smith. He was a maintenance employee and bus driver for the Heavener Public Schools. He was a member of First Baptist Church.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Heavener with burial at Memorial Park in Heavener under the direction of Dowden Funeral Home of Heavener.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda; one daughter, Sandy Sauter of Heavener; two sons, Brian of Apache, Okla., and Kurt of Van Buren; one sister, Sue Holcomb of Heavener; two brothers, Joe of Houston and Buddy Leon of Heavener; and six grandchildren.

JOE RIGGS

LA MESA, Calif. — Joe F. Riggs, 80, of La Mesa, Calif., died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, in La Mesa. He was a machinist in the Navy and a World War II veteran. He retired from civil service in San Diego. He was a 32nd degree Mason with membership at Belle Point Lodge No. 20 F. & A.M. for 53 years, Mount Horeb Royal Arch Lodge No. 11 F. & A.M. for 50 years and a member of Scottish Rite in San Diego.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Greenwood Mortuary in San Diego.

He is survived by his wife, Martha J. Riggs; two daughters, Cindy Day of Los Altos, Calif., and Nancy Moore of El Cajon, Calif.; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews in Fort Smith.

Memorial contributions may be made to the World War II Memorial Fund in Washington, D.C.

CLYDE MATTHEW

Clyde C. Matthew, 83, of Fort Smith died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000, in a local hospital. He was a retired baker and an Army veteran of World War II.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Oak Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.

He is survived by his wife, E. Shirley Matthew; two sons, Dr. Stephen Matthew of Fort Smith and Harold Ressler of Norco, Calif.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

JOHNNIE BLAND

ROLAND — Johnnie Myrtle Bland, 87, of Roland died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, in her home. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Fort Smith.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Essex Funeral Home Chapel in DeWitt with burial at Thompson Cemetery in DeWitt. Local arrangements are by Putman Funeral Home of Fort Smith.

She is survived by one daughter, Sophelia Hinshaw of Roland; two stepdaughters, Lottie Bailey of El Dorado and Georgia Adams of Chicago; five sons, Leon of Albuquerque, N.M., Teddy and Ed, both of Fort Smith, Everett of Shady Point and Harrrison of Shephard, Texas; three sisters, Louise Shackleford of DeWitt, Daisy Meadows of Little Rock and Mildred Poague of Stuttgart; three brothers, Charlie and Jacob Franks, both of DeWitt, and Gerald Franks of Fort Smith; 24 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 69 great-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Faith United Methodist Church, 2901 Massard Road, Fort Smith, AR 72903.

RUBY PEARSON

POTEAU — Ruby Pearl Pearson, 78, Poteau died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000, in a local hospital. She was a homemaker and a member of Nazarene Church. She was the widow of J.V. Pearson.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at First Church of the Nazarene in Poteau with burial at Oakland Cemetery in Poteau under the direction of Evans and Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.

She is survived by three daughters, Kathleen McCaslin of Muskogee, Okla., Sue Gassaway of Monroe, Okla., and Shirley Metcalf of Dallas; one sister, Sally Wade of Sebastapol, Calif.; two brothers, N.C. Armstrong of Claremore, Okla., and John B. Armstrong of Provo, Utah; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jim Marsh, John Boevers, Eddie Joe Whitehorn, Marvin Tucker, Jim Schrodt and Larry Strickland.

The family will visit with friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

WILLIE WILLIAMS

POTEAU — Willie Mirl Williams, 88, of Poteau died Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000, in a local hospital. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Poteau where she taught Sunday school for youth and adults. She was member of Rebekkah Lodge and the widow of Charlie Williams.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Poteau with burial at Oakland Cemetery in Poteau under the direction of Evans and Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.

She is survived by one daughter, Joyce Woodruff of Poteau; one stepdaughter, Della Hewett of Fort Smith; one stepson, Bill Williams of Fort Smith; one brother, Buddy Brown of Chickasha, Okla.; one granddaughter, Laurie Cowell of Garvin, Okla.; two great-grandsons; seven step-grandchildren; 14 step-great-grandchildren; and six step-great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Allen Daniels, Doug Binns, Cecil Staton, Rick Couri, Bill Barber and Bob Lindstom.

Honorary pallbearers will be former members of Willie (Pappas) Williams’ Sunday school class.
