James Smith
HAMILTON, Ohio — James J. Smith, 80, of Hamilton, Ohio, formerly of Van Buren, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002, in Hamilton. He was born June 29, 1921, in Coffeyville, Kan. He was a retired major from the Air Force and a veteran of World War II and the Korean War and retired from Boeing Aircraft in Seattle. Funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in Greenwood Cemetery Chapel in Hamilton with burial at Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Brown-Dawson Funeral Home of Hamilton, Ohio.
He is survived by his wife, Arietta; a daughter, Jimmie Leigh Rusk of Florida; a son, James Smith; two sisters, Arlene Coplen of Fort Smith and Alene Tankersley of Fayetteville; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The family will visit with friends from 12:30 to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel before the service.

Peggy Crockett
DALLAS — Peggy Jacobs Crockett, 74, of Dallas died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002, in her home. She was born March 27, 1927, in Paris. She attended the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville and was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority graduating with a degree in psychology. She was a homemaker.
Memorial service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday in Northaven United Methodist Church in Dallas under the direction of Restland Funeral Home of Dallas.
She is survived by her husband, Charles; a daughter, Carol of Texas; a son, Scott of Texas; and three grandchildren, Chris, Brett and May.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association, 1615 Stemmons Freeway, Dallas, TX 75207.

Roger Kuykendall Jr.
Roger Allen Kuykendall Jr., infant son of Sandy and Roger Kuykendall of Van Buren, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, in a Little Rock hospital.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Chastain Cemetery Arbor in Chastain Community north of Dyer under the directions of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister, Katelyn Kuykendall of the home; his paternal grandparents, Barbara and Larry Elkins of Alma and Gordon Kuykendall of Mulberry; maternal grandparents, Patricia and Luigi DiMarco of Mulberry and William Ray Polly of Mulberry; paternal great-grandparents, Fannie Rodgers of Alma, Wayland and Jenece Kuykendall of Mulberry; maternal great-grandparents, Louise Polly of Mulberry, Ruth Campbell of Alma and William Oliver McCollum of Mulberry.

Lee Hemby
POCOLA — Lee Elbert Hemby, 84, of Pocola died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002, in a local nursing home. He was retired from St. Edward Mercy Medical Center and a member of Southside Nazarene Church in Fort Smith.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Southside Nazarene Church in Fort Smith with burial at Macedonia Cemetery in Pocola under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Robert and Josh Gillooley, Johnny and Jeffery Smack, Danny Conn and Mitchell Henry.
The body may be viewed at the funeral service.

Crystal Ashworth
Crystal Lynn Ashworth, infant daughter of Jennifer Ann Carr and Marcus Shawn Ashworth of Fort Smith, died Friday, Jan. 25, 2002, in Fort Smith.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday in Woodlawn Memorial Park Chapel with burial Woodlawn Memorial Park in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
In addition to her parents she is survived by a brother, Robert James Ashworth of Fort Smith; her paternal grandparents, Evelyn Louis Ashworth of Fort Smith and James Douglas Ashworth of Pineville, La.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Ora Lewis, 94, of Alma died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002, in her home. She was a homemaker and a member of Maple Shade Church of the Nazarene. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Lewis, a daughter, Mary Louise Lewis and a son, Russell Farrell Lewis.
Funeral was held Monday in Maple Shade Church of the Nazarene with burial at Newberry Cemetery in Alma under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
She is survived by a daughter, Freda Mae Smith of Alma; four grandchildren, Scheryl Ann Dotson of Van Alstyne, Texas, Douglas Keith Smith of Alma, Karen Elaine and Russell Dewayne Lewis, both of San Antonio and four great-grandchildren.

Herschel Johnson
Herschel Johnson, 75, of Van Buren died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002, in a local nursing home. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a retired printer for Dixie Cup and a member of the Pace No. 5-0656 local union and a member of Westark Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patsy Johnson and a brother, Guy “Jack” Johnson.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Gracelawn Cemetery in Van Buren.
He is survived by three daughters, Deborah Strong of Van Buren, Phyllis Porter of Norman, Okla., and Marsha Johnson of Oklahoma City; a son, Jimmy Johnson of Van Buren; five sisters, Shirley Ann Shoppach and Patsy Minish, both of Fort Smith, Joyce Thomas, Wanda Fagan and Louise Newton, all of Van Buren; three brothers, Robert, Richard and Danny Johnson, all of Van Buren; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Tom Porter, Eddie Newton, Charlie Stockton, Brad Thomas, John David Fagan and Steve Shoppach.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bill McCoy and printing department of Dixie Cup.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

David O. “Dave” McGee
David O. “Dave” McGee died at home in Van Buren on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002, at the age of 80. He retired from the Marine Corps after serving 25 years. During that time, he served in the South Pacific in World War II, in Korea during the Korean War and in Vietnam. He was proud to have served his country for that length of time. During his military career, he received the following decorations, Asiatic Pac Medal, Good Conduct Medal, American Theatre, Korean Service W/1, Korean Presidential Unit Citation, United Nations Personal Citation, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Service Medal, Pistol Expert Badge and Rifle Expert Badge.
After he retired from the Marine Corps, he worked for 12 years as a career counselor for the state of Louisiana and for three years he taught High School Vocational Training in Louisiana. Dave was a member of Kibler Road Church of God and the VFW.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday in Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel in Van Buren with burial at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith with full military honors.
Dave is survived by his wife of 58 years, Maxine of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Helen and Ronald Medley of Fort Smith; two sons, David of Van Buren and Donald of Mukilteo, Wash.; four grandchildren, Dustin, Brian, Angela and Pamela Medley; a sister and brother-in-law, Lotus and Brantley Cagle of Lake Charles, La., and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Charles McCord, Earl Summerhill, Layton Davis, Jim Morland, Layne Hurst and Eugene Morse.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Kibler Road Church of God Building Fund, 3304 Kibler Road, Van Buren, AR 72956.

Joseph Rutland
GORE — Joseph Scott “Joey” Rutland, 20, of Gore died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, in Muskogee, Okla. He was born March 6. 1981, in Oklahoma City. He was a laborer and a Protestant.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday in Agent Funeral Home Chapel in Gore with burial at White Cemetery northeast of Gore.
He is survived by a companion, April; a daughter, Mariah Erin Rutland of the home; his parents, Jan and Diane Rutland of Lake Tenkiller area; a sister, Kristi Rutland of Tulsa; a brother, Jim Rutland of Beaver Creek, Ohio; and his maternal grandparents, Ted and Joan Schwartz of Moore, Okla.
Pallbearers will be John Hensley, Kevin Chandler, Jared Shanks, Frank Walker, Joe Pack and Chris Bailey.
The body may be viewed at the funeral home.

Robert Sangster
Robert H. Sangster, 69, of Fort Smith died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, in Fort Smith. He was an Army veteran serving in Korea and owner/operator of Sangster’s Garage in Van Buren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. today in Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Kitty; a daughter, Gigi Sangster of North Richland Hills, Texas; three sons, Scott, Robert J. and Justin Sangster, all of Fort Smith; two sisters, Thelma Breeden of Van Buren and Lottie Porter of Tucker; two brothers, Burl Sangster of Alma and Jesse Sangster of Van Buren; and four grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be James Richesin, Tommy Bowen, Gene Row, Garry Frederick, Rob Crawford and Tim Henson.

Charles Coggins
LAS CRUCES, N.M. — Charles “Buster” Coggins, 56, of Las Cruces, N.M., died Monday, Dec. 31, 2001, in Las Cruces, N.M. He was a graduate of Heavener High School and Northeastern State College, a veteran of the Vietnam War and a retired salesman for Weyerhauser.
Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Dowden Funeral Home Chapel in Heavener.
He is survived by a sister, Grace Kidwell of Lincoln.
Memorial contributions may be made to Resident Activity Fund, c/o Casa ‘d Oro Care Center, 1005 Lujan Hill Road, Las Cruces, NM 88005. Bird sanctuaries will be purchased in his name.

Alan McCullough
SUMMERFIELD — Alan D. McCullough, 45, of Summerfield died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, in his home. He worked in the coal mines and rock yards and was Baptist.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday in Heart O’ the Hills Baptist Church in Summerfield with burial at Summerfield Cemetery under the direction of Dowden Funeral Home of Heavener.
He is survived by his wife, Sherry; a daughter, Angela McCullough of Tahlequah; a stepdaughter, Elizabeth Payne of Poteau; three stepsons, Clifford Payne of Fort Hood, Texas, James Graham of Heavener and Cody Maxie of the home; his parents, Walter and Betty McCullough of Waldron; a sister, Wanda Lanning of Waldron; and two grandchildren.

Virginia McConnell
HOT SPRINGS — Virginia Stuard McConnell, 66, of Hot Springs, formerly of Fort Smith, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, in a Hot Springs hospital. She was born Jan. 12, 1936, in Bradley County. She was a homemaker, a businesswoman, a Baptist and the widow of Otis “Mack” McConnell.
Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Friday in Piney Baptist Church in Hot Springs with graveside service at 10 a.m. Saturday at Outlaw Cemetery near Sumpter under the direction of Frazer’s Funeral Home of Warren.
She is survived by a daughter, Sandy Springfield of Hot Springs; two stepdaughters, Susan Gay McConnell Lambiotte of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Kelly Ann McConnell Wilson of Little Rock; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Ruby Davis
WALDRON — Ruby Davis, 89, of Waldron died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, in a local nursing home. She was a homemaker, a Methodist and a member of the Eastern Star.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Lower Center Point Cemetery in Hon under the direction of Martin Funeral Home of Waldron.
She is survived by two sons, Billy Gene Davis of Russellville and Jerry Davis of Clinton; six grandchildren, Kelly Davis of Harrison, Toby Ridenhour and Traci Hood, both of Russellvile, Jeffery Davis of Fort Smith, Jonathan Davis of Clarksville and Abby Henry of South Carolina; 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
The body may be viewed Friday morning before the service at the funeral home, where the family will visit with friends from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Clifford Moore
Clifford G. Moore, 98, of Fort Smith died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, in his home. He was a retired salesman for Best Foods, a member of First United Methodist Church in Fort Smith and the Fort Smith Country Club.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Oak Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Putman Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Mattie; a son, Keith Moore of Fort Smith; a stepson, Don Dickey of Fort Smith; a grandchild, Randy Moore of Little and two great-grandchildren.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Willie Allen
Willie R. Allen, 96, of Van Buren died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, in a local nursing home. He was a retired mechanic for International Harvester, a member of Trinity Baptist Church and a former volunteer for the Fort Smith Boys Clubs. He was the widower of Eva Allen.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday in Putman Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Fort Smith.
He is survived by a son, James Allen of San Antonio; two sisters, Edna Miller of Brookhaven, Miss., and Evelyn Douglas of Crystal Springs, Miss.; two brothers, John Robert Allen of Jacksonville, Fla., and Charles Allen of Archibald, La.; nine grandchildren, Janet Shahan of Van Buren, Frances “Casey” Hulsey of Greenwood, David and Scott Truett, Sammie Jo LaTour and Toni Odom, all of Fort Smith, Eva Neldner of Torrance, Calif., Mary Parker of Colorado Springs, Colo., and John Allen of San Antonio; 15 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Greg Caughman, Sam, David and Scott Truett, James Hulsey, Les Odom, Jackie Lewis and Justin Haller.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
