Earlene Tate

Earlene Tate, 76, of Van Buren died Sunday, March 24, 2002, in a local hospital. She was born Aug. 19, 1925, in Booneville. She was a retired teacher’s aide for the Van Buren Public Schools and a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, Barling Senior Citizens and Arkie Okie Campers.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Lewis Funeral Chapel with graveside service at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Carolan Cemetery in Booneville.

She is survived by her husband, Edward; a son, Gary Tate of Van Buren; and an aunt, Nell Carolan of Booneville.

The body may be viewed from 4 to 8:30 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. until the time of the funeral at the funeral home.

The family will visit with friends from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Christena Hodges

GREENWOOD — Christena Lynn Hodges, 28, of Greenwood died Wednesday, March 20, 2002, in her home. She was a homemaker.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Martin Funeral Home Chapel in Waldron with burial at Buggy Hill Cemetery in Mansfield.

She is survived by two daughters, Amber Lynn Hodges and Kimberly Ann Balentine, both of the home; a son, Steven Ray Edgar of the home; her mother, Lela Martin of Parks; her father, Bill Balentine of Waldron; four sisters, Marilyn Sue Frazier of Waldron, Sandra Jean Parks of Winthrop, Pamela Gale Scantling of Fort Smith and Lori Ann Powell of Waldron; and three brothers, Randall Wayne Balentine fo Decator, Texas, Jerry Douglas Balentine of Sumter, S.C., and Mark Lee Balentine of Waldron.

The body may be viewed from 4 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Virgie Wood

SALLISAW — Virgie B. Wood, 90, of Sallisaw died Sunday, March 24, 2002, in Tulsa. She was a homemaker, a sales clerk for Hawkins Department Store and Lessley’s Department Store and served for 25 years with the Foster Grandparents program in Sallisaw. She was a member of the Church of Christ and the widow of Leonard A. Wood.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Church of Christ in Sallisaw with burial at Fleetwood Cemetery east of Sallisaw under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw.

She is survived by a daughter, Sandra Blair of Coweta, Okla.; a son, Leonard Wood of Berryhill, Okla.; a sister, Wanda Smith of Sallisaw; and three grandchildren, Kim Wood of Tulsa, Les Wood of Berryhill and Mike Blair of Coweta.

The body may be viewed from noon to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Pauline Lemon

Pauline Lemon, 87, of Fort Smith died Saturday, March 23, 2002, in Fort Smith. She was a cook for the Fort Smith Public School System and a member of Midland Heights United Methodist Church. She was the widow of George Lemon.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday in Fentress Mortuary in Fort Smith with burial at Roselawn Cemetery in Fort Smith.

She is survived by a daughter, Ida Mae Grube of Brenham, Texas; two sisters, Frances Baskin of Clarksville and Rebecca Cox of Fort Smith; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Steve Gonzales, Jon and Jim Cox, Rick and Randy Barnett and David Hicks.

The family will visit with friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Heights United Methodist Church, 3500 N. Sixth St., Fort Smith, AR 72904.

Callie Ellison

STIGLER — Callie Katherine Ellison, 89, of Stigler died Tuesday, March 26, 2002, in Stigler.

Graveside service will be 1 p.m. today at Stigler Cemetery under the direction of King & Shearwood Funeral Home of Stigler.

She is survived by three sons, Russell E. Ellison of Fresno, Calif., Doyle L. Ellison of Stigler and Glen Ellison of Wichita, Kan.; a sister, Gertie Reed of Sapulpa, Okla.; a brother, Stanley Jones of Claremore, Okla.; and 15 grandchildren.

Edward Weitzel

MENA — Edward Roy Weitzel, 72, of Mena died Tuesday, March 26, 2002, in Mena. He was born Sept. 9, 1929, in Minnesota. He was a warehouseman for Power House Fititngs. He was the widow of Jeanette Elaine Wimmer Weitzel.

The body was cremated under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.

He is survived by three daughters, Leona Burgess of Lonoke, Robin Sue Frazier of Fayetteville and June Elizabeth Lacey of Kennesaw, Ga.; three sons, Guy Weitzel of Mena, Dana Edward Weitzel of Fouke and Jeffrey Weitzel of Texarkana, Texas; five sisters, Joyce Fletcher of Jordan Minn., Rosie Warner of Mounds View, Minn., Connie Gess of Clarks Grove, Minn., Beverly Keonigsfeld of Charles City, Iowa, and Betty James of Hayfield, Minn.; two brothers, Jerry Weitzel of Hollandale, Minn., and Jimmy Weitzel of Minnesota; 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Eugene Grim

HARTFORD — Eugene Abraham Grim, 90, of Hartford died Tuesday, March 26, 2002, in a Fort Smith nursing home. He was a retired electronic technician, past school board member of Hartford Schools and a member of Jones Memorial United Methodist Church. He was the widower of Mary Grim and Louise Grim.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday in Jones Memorial United Methodist Church in Hartford with burial at Slaytonville Cemetery in Slaytonville under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Hartford.

He is survived by two daughters, Mary Jean Handley of Onaga, Kan., and Cindy K. Hays of Enterprise, Ala.; two sons, Richard Grim of Fort Smith and George Grim of Robert Lee, Texas; a sister, Phyllis Morgan of Colorado Springs, Colo.; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

The body may be viewed 1 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Tracy Dodson

Tracy Lynn Dodson, 31, of Fort Smith died Sunday, March 24, 2002, in Fort Smith. She was employed at Pure Flow in Fort Smith and was a Methodist.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday in McConnell Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood with burial at Dawson Cemetery in Milltown.

She is survived by her parents, Bob L. and Claudia Neissl of Fort Smith; a brother, Randal Dodson of Fort Smith; maternal grandfather, Charles Pruitt of Greenwood; and paternal grandmother, Dorothy Neissl of Fort Smith.

Etna Summit

MENA — Etna Mae Summit, 77, of Mena died Wednesday, March 27, 2002, in Fort Smith. She was born Dec. 30, 1924, in Pine Ridge. She was a bookkeeper and clerk at Zink Drug Store, worked for 15 years at Renova Shirt Factory, was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church and a volunteer at Polk County Senior Citizens Center. She was the widow of Granville Summit.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday in First Free Will Baptist Church with burial at Pinecrest Memorial Park under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.

She is survived by a daughter, Doralene Martin of Mena; a son, Carrol Summit of Hatfield; a sister, Rose Meridieth of Mena; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Janis Fitzgerald

MENA — Janis Ann Fitzgerald, 70, of Mena died Tuesday, March 26, 2002, in Dallas. She was born Nov. 7, 1931, in Watonga, Okla. She was a homemaker, a music teacher and a member of of Mena Garden Club, the Potter RVFD, St. Agnes Catholic Church and the St. Agnes Catholic Church Altar Society.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. today in St. Agnes Catholic Church with burial at Mount Calvary Cemetery under the direction of Beasely-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.

She is survived by her husband, Daniel; three daughters, Nancy Ann Essenburg and Susan Cathleen DePetris, both of Dallas, and Julia Kay Benites of Las Vegas; a son, Daniel Edward Fitzgerald Jr. of Dallas; a sister, Cara Jo Tremper of California; and five grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jack Barnes, Tom Deters, Herman Jansen, John Neils, Randy Super and Ken Wille.

Ruby Smith

SALLISAW — Ruby Brewer Smith, 88, of Sallisaw died Tuesday, March 26, 2002, in Fort Smith. She was March 7, 1914, in Sallisaw. She was graduate of Sallisaw High School and received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from N.S.U. in Tahlequah, Okla., was an elementary teacher in Sequoyah County for 35 years, a member of Sequoyah County Retired Teachers Association, the O.E.A. and Sequoyah County Extension Club and a member of Eastside Baptist Church, where she was active in WMU. She was the widow of Lelis Clifton Smith.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday in Eastside Baptist Church in Sallisaw with burial at Akins Cemetery northeast of Sallisaw under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw.

She is survived by two daughters, Rosemary Tate of Fort Smith and Linda Phillips of Bixby, Okla.; a sister, Luby Hall of Sallisaw, four grandchildren, Robin Newman, Sheli Kilpatrick, Rosanne Dobler and Wendy Kinser; and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Roger Tate, Carl Phillips, Greg Newman, Brent Dobler, Chris Kilpatrick and Brian Kinser.

The body may be viewed 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to charity of donor’s choice.

D.O. Tucker

D.O. Tucker, 79, of Fort Smith died Tuesday, March 26, 2002, in Fort Smith. He was a veteran of World War II, serving the Army Air Force with 47 flying missions as a tail gunner over Italy, a retired employee of Swift Inc. and a member of Grand Avenue Baptist Church.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Fort Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Jo; a daughter, Sandra Jo Chaddock of Fort Smith; a sister, Polly Griffin of Oakdale, Calif.; a brother, Ross Tucker of Houston; one grandchild, Melissa Chaddock; and three stepgranchildren, Dawn, Matt and David Chaddock.

Pallbearers will be Don Saffel, L.V. Hayes, L.V. Jones, Doyle Odom, James Goddard and Joe Coward.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of Otha Law Sunday school class of Grand Avenue Baptist Church.

The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Hollie Allison

Hollie JoAnn Allison, 27, of Fort Smith died Tuesday, March 26, 2002, in a local hospital. She was born June 12, 1974, in Lynnwood, Calif. She was a saleslady for Dillard’s.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Hall Cemetery in Natural Dam under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.

She is survived by her husband, Marc; a daughter, Kait Lynn of the home; her parents, Terry and Margaret Johnson of Van Buren; two sisters, Melanie Shelm of Fort Smith and Tresa Johnson of Van Buren; and her paternal grandparents, Gerald Johnson and Ruby Perkins.

The family will visit with friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Lois Bond

Lois Bond, 72, of Van Buren died Tuesday, March 26, 2002, in a local hospital. She was a former employee of Tyson Foods Hatcheries, a homemaker and a member of Grandview Assembly of God in Natural Dam.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday in Grandview Assembly of God in Natural Dam with burial at Hall Cemetery in Natural Dam under the direction of Ocker Funeral home of Van Buren.

She is survived by a daughter, Vera Russell of Van Buren; two sons, J.B. and Randy Bond, both of Natural Dam; a sister, Sylvia Fain of Van Buren; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Clifford and Luther Mongold, Don and Mike Murphy, Gary Floyd, and David Tudor.

Mary Raney

SALLISAW — Mary L. Raney, 87, of Sallisaw died Wednesday, in a Fort Smith. She was born May 18, 1914, in Sequoyah County. She was a homemaker, a former waitress and cook, a member of First Baptist Church of Muldrow, the Order of the Eastern Star Electa Chapter No. 11 of Muldrow. She was the widow of John Walter Raney.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday in Agent Funeral Home Chapel in Sallisaw with burial at Sallisaw City Cemetery.

She is survived by three daughters, Anna Day of Sallisaw, Patricia Carlile and Susan Risley, both of Tahlequah, Okla.; a son, Billy John Raney of Muldrow; a brother, Joe C. Sagely of Sallisaw; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

The body may be viewed 1 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Earl Price

Earl Price, 80, of Fort Smith entered into rest Tuesday, March 26, 2002, in a Fort Smith hospital. He was born April 18, 1921, in Liberty, the son of the late Floyd and Ethel Cook Price. Earl was a Navy veteran and served on the USS Cogwell ship in South Pacific during World War II, was a retired car dealer and a member of the Pastor’s Class at First Baptist Church in Fort Smith. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Clara of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and LeRoy Van Herpen of Fort Smith; four sisters, Wanda Lee Wilson of Roland, Doris Boman of Fort Smith, Jo Ann Davis of Benton and Jenelle Eriche of Fort Smith; four brothers, Gerald of Rudy, Wayne of California, Loy of Fort Smith and James of Oklahoma; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral will be 2 p.m. today in Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith with burial at Roselawn Cemetery officiated by the Rev. Bill Hulse. Pallbearers will be Dean Morgan, Mark, Scott, Jeff and Eric Van Herpen and Scott Field. Memorial contributions may be made to Pastor’s Class, First Baptist Church, 1400 N. E St., Fort Smith, AR 72901.

Mary Mae Heim

Mary Mae Heim, 84, of Van Buren died Tuesday, March 26, 2002, in a local hospital. She was a retired employee of the Boston Store and Phoenix Fashions and a member of Fort Smith First Baptist Church.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. today in Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Holy Cross Cemetery in Fort Smith.

She is survived by a sister, Sylvia Dodd of Van Buren; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Raymond, Donnie, Marty and Brandon Dodd, Cliff and Brad Hall.

Celestine “Snookie” Wiggins, 83, of Paris died Thursday, March 28, 2002, in Paris. She was a homemaker, a member of the First Christian Church of Paris and a member of the T.T.T. Society of Paris. She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin F. Wiggins; her parents, James Walter McKeen and Ethel Ray McKeen; a son, James Bridges; and a sister, Minazelle Wiggins.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Roller Funeral Home Chapel of Paris with burial at Oakwood Cemetery in Paris.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Larry Willhite of Paris; two sisters, Betty Herlein of Paris and Melba McKeen of Los Angeles; and one grandchild, Zack Willhite.

Pallbearers will be Skip, John, Clay and Marc Wiggins, John Hardwicke and Mickey Butler.

The body may be viewed today at the funeral home, where the family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m.
