Carolyn Minner
FORT COFFEE, Okla. — Carolyn Kaye Minner, 50, of Fort Coffee, Okla., died Friday, Sept. 13, 2002, in Fort Coffee. She taught school for 23 years in Spiro Upper Elementary and was an active member of Macedonia Church of God in Fort Coffee, Okla.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Spiro High School Gymnasium with burial at Fort Coffee Cemetery under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Spiro.
She is survived by two daughters, Destiny Phillips and Shannon Skyes, both of Fort Coffee, Okla.; her mother, Onnie Minner of Fort Coffee, Okla.; three sisters, Rita Louise and Cynthia Minner, both of Topeka, Kan., and Marvalene Minner of Fort Coffee, Okla.; five brothers, Vanolies and William V. Minner, both of Topeka, Kan., Mitchell and David Minner, both of Fort Coffee, Okla., and Boyd Minner Jr. of Corsicana, Texas.
The body may be viewed at the funeral home.
The family will visit with friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

J.D. Mize
POTEAU — J.D. Mize, 80, of Poteau died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002, in Poteau. He was born April 17, 1922, in LeFlore. He was a farmer, a mechanic and the widower of Lillian Long Mize.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday at Evans & Miller Funeral Home Chapel of Memories in Poteau with burial at Whitesboro Cemetery.
He is survived by three daughters, Wilma Eslick and Wanda Perkins, both of Poteau, and Joyce Hill of Wister; six sons, Roy Mize of Whitesboro, Ted Mize of Purcell, Okla., Bill Mize of McKenzie, Okla., John David Mize of Poteau, Kenneth Mize of Blocker, Okla., and Bobby Mize of McAlester, Okla.; four sisters, Beatrice Long of Keota, Winifred Ivey of Whitesboro, Josephine Ray of Edmond, Okla., and Rosa Lea Keltner of Roff, Okla.; 25 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Shane, Justin and Brook Mize, Richard Jarman, Donnie Potter and Daniel Monks.

Charles Hollie
POTEAU — Charles Hollie, 78, of Poteau died Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2002, in Poteau. He was born Feb. 15, 1924, in Walls, Okla. He was a rancher and coal miner, a World War II veteran serving in the South Pacific and a member of Poteau Broadway Church of Christ.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. today at Evans & Miller Funeral Home Chapel of Memories in Poteau with burial at Miners Cemetery in McCurtain.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys; two daughters, Sharon Stiles of Quinton, Okla. and Sue Taylor Dunn of Poteau; four sons, Ronnie Hollie of Bokoshe, Jim Stark of Wynnewood, Okla., Gary Hollie of Keota and Terry Hollie of Stigler; a sister, Jean Byrum of McCurtain; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Kerry, Jarrett and Charles Bradley Hollie, Jim Stark Jr., Blake Stiles, Dale Fout, Michael Bishop and Douglas Goff.

Herbert Hyde
Herbert C. Hyde, 84, of Van Buren died Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2002, in a local nursing home. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, a member of the Armour Avenue First Free Will Baptist Church and was retired from Fort Smith Chair Company.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at Armour Avenue First Free Will Baptist Church in Fort Smith with burial at Forest Park Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia; a son, Melvin Hyde of Van Buren; two sisters, Vera Swaim of Van Buren Pauline Betterton of Junction City, Ore.; a brother, E.F. Hyde of Porterville, Calif.; and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be James Hawkins, Don and Bill Swaim, Larry Hyde, Bob Sparkman and Farris Whited.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Danny Baber
HATFIELD — Danny Horace Baber, 51, of Hatfield died Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2002, in Hot Springs. He was born June 10, 1951, in Hot Springs. He was a firefighter and engineering technician for the U.S. Forest Service, a member of Army Reserve and a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church.
Rosary will be 7 p.m. today at St. Agnes Catholic Church
Mass will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Agnes Catholic Church with burial at Bethel Cemetery in Umpire under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; three daughters, Mary Alicia Hastey of Springdale, Sarah Ann Wagner of Mena and Bonne Elizabeth Baber of Ink; two sons, Daniel Lee Baber of Hatfield and Nicholas Baber of Mena; his parents, Horace Lee and Mary Vernoice Baber of Hot Springs; a sister, Mary Beth Peterson of Whitehall; two brothers, Jerry Lee Baber of DeQueen and Timothy Aaron Baber of Hot Springs; and three grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Gary, Ronnie and John Clayton Baber, Bobby Green, Ricky and Larry Nabors, Bill Manasco and Ronald Gregg.

Agnes Bowen
MENA — Agnes June Bowen, 80, of Mena died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002, in Mena. She was born May 23, 1922, in Mena. She was a floor lady at Renova Shirt Factory, a member of the First Christian Church and a homemaker.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at First Christian Church with burial at Pinecrest Memorial Park under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.
She is survived by her husband, Odis; two sons, Jerry Bowen of Huntsville and Rodney Bowen of Mena; two sisters, Sally Patterson of Fort Smith and Virginia Earhart of Mena; and nine grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Clark, Tim and Brandon Bowen, Jeff Anslinger, Josh Thrash and Tommy Earhart.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Wanza Thompson
MULBERRY — Wanza F. Thompson, 83, of Mulberry died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002, in a Fort Smith hospital. She was born Sept. 11 ,1919, in Mulberry. She was a homemaker, a member of Mulberry First Baptist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 149. She was the widow of Ralph Thompson.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Mulberry First Baptist Church with burial at New Cemetery in Mulberry under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home of Mulberry.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary Teague of Van Buren; a son, Charles Thompson of Long Beach, Calif.; and a grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mulberry First Baptist Church.

Delzy Millsap
OZARK — Delzy “Dude” Millsap, 71, of Ozark died Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2002, in a Fort Smith hospital. He was born Feb. 18, 1931, in Franklin County. He was a farmer.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Ozark with burial at New Cemetery in Mulberry.
He is survived by four sisters, Betty Chancey of Ozark, Mary Reynolds of Rudy and Lula Johnson and Kathy Reeves, both of Mulberry; two brothers, Jimmy “Dick” Millsap of Ozark and Jesse Lee Millsap of Mulberry.
Pallbearers will be Frank Conn, Bob Adams, Bob and Randy Sanford and Mitchell and Dennis Acord.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society.

Juanita Fisher
Juanita Fisher, 88, of Fort Smith died Monday, Sept. 16, 2002, in Springdale. She was a floral designer for Freeman’s Flowers, a member of First United Methodist Church, Uplifters Sunday school class, the Pacesetters of First United Methodist Church, Harmony Chapter, Order of Eastern Star and the Amrita Caldron. She was the widow of John F. Fisher Jr.
Graveside service will be 1 p.m. today at Roselawn Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Fentress Mortuary of Fort Smith.
She is survived by six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

Barbara Clayborn
LAMAR — Barbara Jean Clayborn, 70, of Lamar died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002, in Clarksville. She was born Nov. 24, 1931, in Rifle, Colo.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Hardwicke Funeral Home Chapel in Clarksville with burial at Lamar Cemetery.
She is survived by her husband, Jimmy; three daughters, Pat Loftgren of Kilgore, Texas, Donna Underwood of Longview, Texas, and Jean Rives of Oark; two sons, Larry Keys of Cedarville and Jimmy Eugene Clayborn of Dallas; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Betty Farris
Betty Farris, 71, of Van Buren died Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2002, in a local hospital. She was a member of Van Buren First Presbyterian Church, the Crawford Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, the Order of the Eastern Star in Gary, Ind., Compassionate Ministries and Station Master for the Chamber of Commerce. She was the widow of Hal B. Farris.
Funeral will be 9 a.m. Friday at Van Buren First Presbyterian Church with burial of cremains at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
She is survived two daughters, Terry Watson of Van Buren and Laura Cyr Antolak of Rolla, Mo.; two sons, Joseph Cyr of Hammond, Ind. and George Cyr of Fort Smith; a brother, George Graham of Tulsa; and four grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Ryan Peterson and Dan and Andy Comstock.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Evelyn Scott
SALLISAW — Evelyn Juanita Miller Scott, 77, of Sallisaw died Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2002, in Fort Smith. She was born Oct. 20, 1924, in Hanson Community. She was a homemaker, retired from Sonoma Development Center in Sonoma, Calif., and a Protestant. She was the widow of Clay Scott.
Funeral will be 10 am. Friday at Agent Funeral Home Chapel in Sallisaw with burial at Akins Cemetery northeast of Sallisaw.
She is survived by a daughter, Brenda Alsup of Sallisaw; two sons, Gary Scott of Sacramento, Calif., and Dennis Scott of Livermore, Calif.; three sisters, Cherokee Helm of Eastland, Texas, Wanda Gardener of Sebastopol, Calif., and Bobbie Standridge of Santa Rosa, Calif.; a brother, Tom Miller of Graton, Calif.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mary Edwards
SALLISAW — Mary Nelle Edwards, 60, of Sallisaw died Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2002, in Tulsa. She was born Dec. 11, 1941, in Hominy, Okla. She was a Seventh-day Adventist.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. today at Marble City Cemetery under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw.
She is survived by a sister, Edith Griffin of Denver; a niece and several cousins.

Jessie Nelson
ROLAND — Jessie Norvell Nelson, 62, of Roland died Monday, Sept. 16, 2002, in a local hospital. He was a farmer worker and a mechanic.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Leard Cemetery in Pocola under the direction of Putman Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Sheba; five sons, Mark, Jack, Kevin and Louis Nelson, all of Roland, and Rick Nelson of Fort Smith; a sister, Joyce Burns of Lamount, Calif.; three brothers, Robert Nelson of Roland, Kenneth Nelson of Bakersville, Calif., and Jackie Nelson of Heavener; and five grandchildren.

Carl Wood Sheppard Sr.
Carl Wood Sheppard Sr. of Fort Smith died Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002, in a local hospital. He was born July 21, 1937, in Fort Smith. He was a member of Mount Zion CME Church where he served on the steward board. Carl was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He worked for Acme Brick and Desota Furniture in Fort Smith. Later he went to work for Fort Smith Public Schools where he retired in 2001 after 19 years of service. He continued to work in various jobs. Funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Mount Zion C.M.E. Church in Fort Smith with burial at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith. He is survived by his wife, Gloria Sheppard of Fort Smith; three sons, Carl Sheppard Jr. and Anthony Sheppard Sr., both of Fort Smith, and William Sheppard of Arlington, Texas; a sister, Betty Moore of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a brother, Charles Myers of Philadelphia; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Pallbearers will be Sam Stringer Sr., Charles Rainey, Carl Hamilton Jr., Clarence and Thomas West and Donald Newton. The family will receive friends at 3217 North S Street in Fort Smith.
