Robert J. Jones
Robert J. Jones, 79, of Fort Smith entered into rest Sunday, March 17, 2002, in a Fort Smith hospital. He was born July 8, 1922, in Van Buren, the son of the late Arliss and Ola Jones Rogers. Robert was a member of the Midland Heights United Methodist Church and American Legion Post. No. 31, a 32nd degree Mason, a World War II Air Corps veteran, was retired after 38 years as a road driver for ABF and was honored with an Extensive Safety Record at ABF. Robert is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Lou of the home; two sons, Sam K. and wife, Linda of Tulsa and Stacey and wife, Sheila of Fort Smith; four grandchildren, Holly and husband, Kevin Raley, Neile, Staci and Amanda Jones and one great-grandchild, McKenna Raley. Funeral will be 11:30 a.m. today in Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Forest Park Cemetery in Fort Smith. Pallbearers will be Neyron Edwards, Joel Stubblefield, Dr. Bill Steward, Bill Pitts, Harold Blaylock and Leon Taylor. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Heights United Methodist Church, 3500 N. Sixth St., Fort Smith, AR 72904.

Bertha “Connie” Beecher
Bertha “Connie” Beecher, 83, of Fort Smith died Saturday, March 16, 2002, in a local hospital following a short illness. She was a homemaker and member of Christ the King Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thornton D. Beecher and one son, William “Butchie” Beecher.
She is survived by four daughters, Joyce Taylor of Fort Smith, Gloria Standifird of Porum, Susan Miller of Noblesville, Ind. and Nancy Winters of Russellville; six grandchildren, Larry Edwards of Van Buren, Holly Miller of Noblesville, Ind., Kenny Taylor of Fort Smith and Matthew, Jennifer and Jessica Winters, all of Russellville. She also has one great-grandchild, Anissa Shea Edwards of Van Buren.
Mass will be 10 a.m. today in Christ the King Catholic Church in Fort Smith with burial at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Fentress Mortuary of Fort Smith.
Pallbearers will be Larry Edwards, Kenny Taylor, Matthew Winters, Jason Hill, Jeremy Prater and Josh Walters.
Memorial contributions may be made to Christ the King Catholic Church, 2112 S. Greenwood Ave., Fort Smith, AR 72901.

Frances Jones Terry
Frances Jones Terry, 45, of Van Buren died Sunday, March 17, 2002, in a local hospital. She was a secretary for Specialty Woodworks in Van Buren and a member of the Baptist faith and a Bingo Club.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Cross Cemetery in Greenwood.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry Terry of the home; a daughter, Channing Henderson of Fort Smith; a son, Robert Lee Wofford of Fort Smith; her grandmother, Katherine Game of Goldsboro, N.C.; a sister, Kathy Crossno of Fort Smith; an aunt, Ruth Williams of Fort Smith; and five grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Tim Terry, Brian Allred, Leonard Seheumack, Jason Henderson, Bob Wofford and Robert McDole.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Bonnie Hanna
Bonnie Hanna, 85, of Van Buren died Sunday, March 17, 2002, in Fort Smith. She was a homemaker, a Christian and a member of the Baptist faith. She is preceded in death by her husband, Willie Lee Hanna, a sister, Agnes Puckett and a brother, Calvin Treat.
Funeral will b 3 p.m. today in Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Forest Park Cemetery in Fort Smith.
She is survived by two sons, Danny Lee Hanna of Hallsville, Texas, and David Michael Hanna of Midland; a sister, Betty Chitwood of Cookson, Okla.; five brothers, Clayton Treat of Warren, Ind., Clyde and Carl Treat, both of Spiro, Clarence Treat of Pocola and Claude Treat of Sand Springs, Okla.; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Brad, Brian and Calvin Treat Jr., A.C. Conrad Sr., A.C. Conrad Jr. and Bobby Canoy.
Honorary pallbearers will be his brothers, Clayton, Clyde, Carl, Clarence and Claude Treat.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Gideons International.

Helen M. Baker
Helen M. Baker, 71, of Fort Smith died Sunday, March 17, 2002, in Fort Smith. She was born Sept. 15, 1930, in Sulphur Rock. She was a member of Goddard United Methodist Church. Preceded in death by her husband, William F. Baker and a daughter, Katie Baker.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Goddard United Methodist Church with burial at Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Fentress Mortuary of Fort Smith.
She is survived by two daughters, Connie Moore and Maurine Baker, both of Fort Smith; two sons, Bill Baker of Denver and Rick Baker of Fort Smith; three sisters, Ernestine Marston of Lamar, Colo., Willie Smith of San Jose, Calif. and Virginia La Fever of Vero Beach, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Heidi Jones of England, Jason Moore of Fort Hood, Texas, Terry and Nathan Baker, both of Dallas, Maxwell Baker of Fort Smith, Matthew, David and Andrew Baker, all of Denver and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Rogers, Bill, Rick, Maxwell, Terry and Nathan Baker, Matt Winters and Shay Morse.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
Memorial contributions may be made to charity of donor’s choice or Goddard United Methodist Church.

Rebecca Priddy
MENA — Rebecca Dawn “Becky” Priddy, 42, of Mena died Saturday, March 16, 2002, in Hot Springs. She was born June 17, 1959, in Breckenridge, Texas. She was a seamstress at Aalfs Manufacturing.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today in Beasley-Wood Funeral Home Chapel in Mena.
She is survived by her husband, Eddie; a daughter, Tara Simonton of Mena; a son, Cody Priddy of Mena; a stepdaughter, Regina Priddy of Mena; a stepson, Colby Priddy of Mena; her father, Ken Lynch of Texas; a brother, Wade Lynch of Quanah, Texas; and two grandchildren.

James Irvin Sr.
UNIONTOWN — James Henry Irvin Sr., 78, of Uniontown died Saturday, March 16, 2002, in a local hospital. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a retired truck driver for AMPI Milk Association. He was the widower of Flora Irvin.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. today at Hall Cemetery in Natural Dam under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
He is survived by a daughter, Neva Stone of Van Buren; three sons, Ned and James Henry Irvin Jr., both of Uniontown, and Randy Irvin of Van Buren; and seven grandchildren.

Christopher Shores
BOLES — Christopher “Porkchop” Shores, 25, of Boles died Saturday, March 16, 2002, in Waldron. He was a farm worker and attended the Pentecostal Church.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today in Waldron Pentecostal Church with burial at Friendship Cemetery in Waldron under the direction of Martin Funeral Home of Waldron.
He is survived by his mother, Carolyn Shores of Boles; a sister, Stacy Bossert of Boles; and his grandfather, Clifford Shores of Hot Springs.
Pallbearers will be Brian Gates, William Shores, Austin Hunt, Floyd Brown, Jimmy Ray Sims and Chris Black.
The body may be viewed 9 a.m. to noon today at the funeral home.

Elmer Sappington
STIGLER — Elmer E. Sappington, 93, of Stigler died Sunday, March 17, 2002, in Siloam Springs. He was a retired aircraft builder and the widower of Iona Sappington.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in Mallory Funeral Home Chapel in Stigler with burial at Antioch Cemetery in Stigler.
He is survived by two daughters, Yvonne Honeycutt of Siloam Springs and Fran Jones of Broken Arrow, Okla.; a son, Wesley Sappington of Lufken, Texas; a brother, Oscar Sappington of Houston; 12 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Blaine, Billy and Wayne “Skip” Sappington, Ben Dixon, Doyle Hodges and Raymond Joe Adams.

Isaac Alexander
ALMA — Isaac Nelson Alexander, 74, of Alma died Sunday, March 17, 2002, in a local hospital. He was a retired machine operator and a Free Will Baptist.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in Ocker Funeral Home Chapel in Alma with burial at Evergreen Cemetery in Alma.
He is survived by his wife, Bessie; a daughter, Kay Huffman of Richwood, Texas; two sons, Larry Alexander of Van Buren and Danny Alexander of Alma; three sisters, Nadine White of Van Buren, Francis Mueller of Sheboygan, Wis., and Gerri Wilder of Florida; a brother, Joe T. Alexander of Van Buren; and three grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Randy King, Joe and Michael Alexander, Tommy Wilson, Curtis Carney and Garry Bull.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Tammy Weeks
Tammy Lou Weeks, 32, of Fort Smith died Saturday, March 16, 2002, in Washington County. She was born Oct. 28, 1969, in Van Buren. She was a waitress.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Alma City Cemetery under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.
She is survived by her husband, Miles; a daughter, Donna Pettygrew of Van Buren; three sons, Harold, Bradley and Hunter Weeks, all of Fort Smith; her parents, Gloria Pettygrew of Van Buren and Harold Pettygrew of Mountainburg; four sisters, Tina Thompson of Brazil, Carol Parker of Stillwell, Tresa Moses of Fort Smith and Lisa Wabounsee of Van Buren; two brothers, Marvin Pettygrew of Van Buren and Robert Wayne Pettygrew of Fort Smith; and maternal grandmother, Effie Satterfield of Mountainburg.
Pallbearers will be Thomas and Jerry Parker, Russell Moses Jr., Tony Brummett, Sheldon Wabounsee and Nathan Pettygrew.

Thelma Burt
Thelma Burt, 69, of Fort Smith died Monday, March 18, 2002, in her home. She was born Feb. 11, 1933, in Sebastian County. She was a secretary for Arkansas Glass & Mirror and a member of Harvest Time Tabernacle and the National Association of Women in Construction.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.
She is survived by a daughter, Diane Escoffier of Fort Smith; a son, Steve Burt of Alma; her mother, Ruby Rodriquez of Fort Smith; a brother, Jimmy Stanley of Fort Smith; and one grandchild, Josh Escoffier.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

M. Ray Frost
M. Ray Frost, 69, of Fort Smith died Sunday, March 17, 2002, in a local hospital. He was born March 15, 1933, in Magazine. He was a retired Assembly of God minister after 45 years of service, a retired head of security for 5th Season Inn and a member of Cliff Terrace Assembly of God.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Cliff Terrace Assembly of God with burial at Cross Cemetery in Greenwood under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Freeda; two sons, Michael of Benton and the Rev. Darrell Frost of Humboldt, Tenn.; a foster daughter, Sharon Hagamier of Fort Worth, Texas; two sisters, Reba “Sis” Buck of Muldrow and Erma Sue Brown of Paris; four brothers, Garlan of Roland, Doyle of Charleston, Darwin of Branch and Raymond of Greenwood; three grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, three foster grandchildren and one stepgreat-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Justin and Joshua Frost, Harold and Bob Pike, Hoyt Ming and Kenneth Williams.
The family will visit with friends from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Walter Leverett
HARTFORD — Walter M. Leverett, 81, of Hartford died Sunday, March 17, 2002, in Hartford. He was retired from Baldor and a member of Masonic Lodge No. 609 in Hartford.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in Faith Chapel in Hartford with burial at Hartford Memorial Park under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Hartford.
He is survived by a sister, Irene Leverett of Hartford; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Clyde Mendenhall, Leon Burrows, Dean Barnes, Brad Howard, Bob Rosso and Jimmy Gus Dunn.
The body may be viewed 1 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Opal Self
Opal Marie Self, 76, of Van Buren died Sunday, March 17, 2002, in a Fort Smith hospital. She was born July 17, 1925. She was a 1945 graduate of Poteau High School, a homemaker and a beautician. She was the widow of Bob Self.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Oakland Cemetery Pavilion in Poteau under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.
She is survived by a son, Bob Merchant of Van Buren; a sister, Mildred Faulkenberry of Poteau; one grandchild, Kelly Metts of Rowlett, Texas; and two great-grandchildren.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Reilly Clark
MANSFIELD — Reilly Leo Clark, 73, of Mansfield died Friday, March 15, 2002, in a Fort Smith hospital. He was an Army veteran of World War II, retired from Whirlpool and a Lutheran.
Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday in McConnell Funeral Home Chapel in Greenwood.
He is survived by two daughters, Sloane Melissa Packer of Michigan and Kathleen Lida Hilburn of Fort Smith; a son, Joel J. Clark of Fort Smith; three sisters, Goldie Mae Clark and Mary Jane Wendt, both of Pulaski, Tenn., and Irma Jean Mullen of Fort Smith; two brothers, Albert Leon Clark of Mansfield and Billy Joe Clark of Fort Smith; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
