Clifford Smith
MORRO BAY, Calif. — Clifford F. Smith, 81, of Morro Bay, Calif., died Friday, July 26, 2002, in his home. He was born Sept. 12, 1920, in Strickler. He served in the Seabees in the South Pacific during World War II. He was a life member of United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, a member of the American Legion, VFW, Eagles, Masons and NRA, a commercial fisherman for 15 years and the Morro Bay Domino Champion at Morro Bay fuel dock. He was the widower of Betty Smith.
The body was cremated under the direction of Benedict Rettey Mortuary and Crematory of Morro Bay, Calif.
He is survived by two sisters, Mildred Wagner and Ruby Francis, both of Arkansas, and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of San Luis Obispo.

Julia Correll
SALLISAW — Julia Mae Correll, 92, of Sallisaw died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002, in Fort Smith. She was born Dec. 29, 1909, in Sallisaw. She was a former shipyard worker in World War II, a homemaker and a Protestant. She was the widow of Perry Correll.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Agent Funeral Home Chapel in Sallisaw with burial at Sallisaw City Cemetery.
She is survived by a niece, Betty Martin of Tulsa; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The body may be viewed 1 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Lewis Woodall
KEOTA — Lewis T. Woodall “Woody, L.T.” 76, of Keota died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002, in Keota. He was an Army corporal in World War II from May 1944 to 1946, a minister for the Free Will Baptist Church for many years and a member of Lone Elm Free Will Baptist Church.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. today at Lone Elm Free Will Baptist Church with graveside service at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Walters Cemetery in Walters, Okla., under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Stigler.
He is survived by his wife, Imogene; a daughter, Teresa Certain of Pottsboro, Texas; three sons, Eddie and Tommy Woodall, both of Duncan, Okla., and Ronnie Woodall of McKinney, Texas; three stepdaughters, Danna Allen of Memphis, Tenn., Jani Santana of Rossville, Ga. and Andra Preston of Duncan, Okla.; five brothers, Edward Clay of Plano, Texas, Bill and Bobby Woodall, both of Keota, H.D. Woodall of Duncan, Okla. and Leo Woodall of Pryor, Okla.; the mother of his children, Dona Woodall of Duncan, Okla.; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The body may be viewed at the funeral home.

Samuel Wentworth
HATFIELD — Samuel R. “Bob” Wentworth, 73, of Hatfield died Monday, Aug. 5, 2002, in his home. He was born April 8, 1929, in Dawson, Texas. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He worked in the oil fields in California for 37 years and in the drilling department and later as fishing tool supervisor and a member of Faith Missionary Baptist Church.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Beasley-Wood Funeral Home Chapel in Mena with burial at Gann Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Margie; a daughter, Carol Flowers of Fort Collins, Colo.; a sister, Nancy Hiser of Dallas; a brother, Frank Wentworth of Fort Worth, Texas; four grandchildren, Lisa Floyd of Indiana, William and Curtis Flowers Jr., both of Fort Collins, Colo., and David Flowers of Madison, Ind. and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Curtis Flowers Sr., Curtis Flowers Jr., David and William Flowers, Brian and Russell Hiser and Lisa Lloyd.
Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Faith Missionary Baptist Church.

Olive Pitts
SUN CITY, Ariz. — Olive Lavonne Crossland Pitts, 82, of Sun City, Ariz., formerly of Fort Smith, died Sunday, July 28, 2002. She was born in Greenwood and the widow of Thurman Pitts.
Funeral was held July 31 at Heritage Funeral Chapel in Peoria, Ariz., with burial at National Memorial Cemetery in Arizona.
She is survived by a daughter, Sharon Pitts Meek of Glendale, Ariz.; and a son, Lee Pitts of Sun City, Ariz.

Baby Martin
SALLISAW — Baby Boy Martin, infant son of Todd and Tami Martin of Sallisaw, died Monday, Aug. 5, 2002.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Stigler City Cemetery under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Stigler.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his maternal grandparents, Pete and Sherry Dinsmore of Enid, Okla.; paternal grandparents, Doug and Kathy Martin of Stigler; maternal great-grandfather, Ernest Grimes of Shawnee, Okla.; paternal great-grandparents, Marvin and Eula Martin of Broken Arrow, Okla.; and paternal great-grandfather, Loyd Munn of Stigler.

Leneda Lasiter
MULBERRY — Leneda Faye Lasiter, 48, of Mulberry died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, in a local hospital. She was of the Baptist faith.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Ocker Funeral Home Chapel in Alma with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery in Fort Smith.
She is survived by her husband, Wayne; a daughter, Amy Lasiter of the home; her mother, Mildred Stewart of California; four sisters, Paulette McGrahm, Norma Tidwell, Kayvron Hammond and Freda Brock, all of California; two brothers, Randy Stewart of California and Steve Stewart of Fort Smith; and two grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Danny and Larry Gattis, Dennis Lasiter, Jeff Mosbey, Kenny Polk and Danny Stewart.

Joseph Lipe
COLINGA, Calif. — Joseph M. Lipe, 89, of Colinga, Calif., formerly of Arkansas, died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002, in Clarksville. He was born Jan. 15, 1913, in Gravely.
The body was cremated under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home of Clarksville.
He is survived by his wife, Lois; a daughter, Billie Martin of Clarksville; a son, Joe Allen Lipe of Morro Bay, Calif.; three sisters, Helen Harris of Paris, Eula Hall and Sila Shock, both of North Little Rock; and seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may made to charity of donor’s choice.

Margaret Ross
MULDROW — Margaret M. Ross, 82, of Muldrow died Monday, Aug. 5, 2002, in Roland. She was born Aug. 14, 1919, south of Muldrow. She was a retired furniture factory worker at Fort Smith Chair, a seamstress at Oklahomer Smith, a member of Church of the Nazarene in Muldrow.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Church of the Nazarene northwest of Muldrow with burial at Maple Cemetery northwest of Muldrow under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Muldrow.
She is survived by her husband, Vernon; a daughter, Glenda M. Thomas of Leonard, Okla.; a sister, Elsie Treat of Muldrow; a half brother, Bob Treat of Milam, Texas; three grandchildren, Deborah Webley, Pamela and Danel J. Thomas and three great-grandchildren.
The body may be viewed 3 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Jackie Johnson
ARKOMA — Jackie Ray Johnson, 69, of Arkoma died Sunday, Aug. 4, 2002, in his home. He was born May 18, 1933, in Purcell, Okla. He was an Air Force veteran, he was the owner of the Gorilla Convenience Store and was of the Pentecostal faith.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Liberty Cemetery in Greenwood.
He is survived by three daughters, Jackie Hargis of Keota, Sherri Tate of Arkoma and Laurie Bambl of Pocola; a son, Mike Johnson of Fort Smith; a sister, Marceline Hearn of Tulsa; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and the mother of his children, Billie Floyd.
Pallbearers will be Wade Hargis Jr., Victor Hargis, Chris and James Tate, Ellis Peppers and Allen Boatright.

Letha Bell Vaughn
Letha Bell Vaughn, 84, of Van Buren died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, in a local nursing home. She was a former employee of Crawford Memorial Hospital and a Baptist. She was the widow of O.R. Vaughn.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Coker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Gracelawn Cemetery in Van Buren.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary LaRue of Van Buren; three sons, Clarence Vaughn of Rudy, Lewis Vaughn of Cecil and Billy Vaughn of Van Buren; a brother, Leonard Burkett of California; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Nicholas, David, Ricky and Charles Vaughn and Brian and Barry LaRue.

Ted Efurd
Ted Efurd of Greenwood died Friday, Dec. 20, 2002, at age 72. He was born in Sebastian County on March 5, 1930, to Relf Sr. and Alta Holland Efurd. He was raised in Sebastian County, where he developed a love for animals, especially horses. He spent much of his childhood riding horses in what later became Fort Chaffee. In 1948, he graduated from Greenwood High School and soon joined the Army. He married his childhood sweetheart, Verna Lee Brown, of Greenwood in 1949. After two years of duty in the Army and two years in Greenwood, Ted and Verna moved themselves and their two sons, Ken and Jerry to Sunray, Texas, where Ted went to work for Shamrock Oil and Gas. They returned to Greenwood in 1966, and Ted later went to work for Harding Glass in Fort Smith. In 1977, after completing welding course work at Westark Community College, he opened Efurd’s Welding Service, where he worked until his retirement in 1992. Ted was deacon at the First Baptist Churches in Sunray and Greenwood. He was a member of the Sebastian County Mounted Patrol. In Greenwood, he was a city council member, past president of the Greenwood Roundup Club, Police Commission, maintained the deer pens on the town square, installed and maintained the clock in the city’s bell tower. He was a member of Greenwood United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Verna Lee Brown Efurd; two sons, Ken of Baton Rouge, La., and Jerry and his wife, Susan of Greenwood; a sister, Doris Vivian Amos of Duncanville, Texas; two brothers, Charles of Greenwood and Danny of Marino Valley, Calif.; a stepmother, Maggie Efurd of Witcherville; three stepbrothers, Cecile and Cyril Cabe, both of Greenwood, and Johnny Cabe of Witcherville. He had five grandchildren, Ryan, Hillary, Meredith, Austin and Harrison. He was preceded in death by his brother, Relf Efurd Jr.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. today at United Methodist Church in Greenwood with burial at Liberty Cemetery in Greenwood under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.
Pallbearers will be Gerald Amos Jr., Carlton and Paul Efurd, Jackie Earl and Jimmie Dale Brown, Gary Vaughn, Steve Brown and Donnie Sandifer. Honorary pallbearers will be Roy Mizell, Arville Stallings, Gene Winford, James Burgess, Connie Efurd, John Lloyd, Cecile Cabe and the Efurd, Brown and Vaughn nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to Greenwood United Methodist Church, 10 W. Denver, Greenwood, AR 72936 or Alzheimer’s Association, 320 N. Greenwood Ave., Fort Smith, AR 72901.

Joyce Tudor
Joyce Tudor, 76, of Greenwood, formerly of Fort Smith, died Friday, Dec. 20, 2002, in a Greenwood nursing home. She was a Pentecostal and a former employee of Sparks Regional Medical Center, working in the laundry. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ann Walton, and a brother, C.G. Brasher.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. today at Gill Cemetery in Van Buren under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
She is survived by three daughters, Jean Parker of Van Buren, Mary Mondier of Fort Smith and Carolyn Walters of Charleston; three sons, William Black of Coinjock, N.C., Roy Black of Panama and Ricky Black of Fort Smith; five sisters, Melba Arnold of Anderson, Calif., Dorothy Hudson of Kibler, Arlene Hartman and Genevie Bell, both of Redding, Calif., and Peggy Bell of Greenwood; five brothers, Sam Brasher of Susanville, Calif., Bill Brasher of Gerber, Calif., Wesley Brasher of Barling, Dan Brasher of Layton, Utah, and Bob Brasher of Medford, Ore.; and several grandchildren.

Ray T. Hoover
Ray T. Hoover, 76, of Alma died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, in his home. He was a resident of Alma, a Navy veteran of World War II and of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Patricia Pullan.
Memorial service will be 10 a.m. today at Ocker Funeral Home Chapel in Alma. The body will be cremated.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; a daughter, Sandra Mitchell of Alma; three sons, Michael, David and Billy Hoover, all of Alma; a brother, Joe Bill Hoover of Tulsa; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

NEWARK — Mary Louise “Lou” Rougeou, 67, of Newark died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, in a Jonesboro hospital. She was born Feb.10, 1935, in Bunkie, W.V. She was a retired certified nursing assistant, having worked for North Heritage Manor in Alexandria, La., and was of the Baptist faith.
Funeral was Sunday at Qualls Funeral Home Chapel in Cave City with burial at Cave City Cemetery.
She is survived by four daughters, Karan Lynn Trichel and Julia Ann Perot, both of Cave City, Toni Annette Kingsbury of Round Rock, Texas, and Marjorie Elaine McGee of Fort Smith; two sons, Donnie and Dale Vogt, both of Wisconsin; three sisters, Marjorie Vaughn and Robbie Crawford, both of South Point, Ohio, and Karen Gehringer of Kentucky; a brother, Cliff Barnett of Florida; 19 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Rick King, Justin Mock, Billy and Chuck Norris, Randall Gillmore, Randall Perkey and Jerry Biard.
