John L. Spiers
John L. Spiers, 40, of Charleston died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003, in his home after a three-year battle with cancer. He was born Jan. 25, 1963, in Fort Smith. He was a computer programmer and printer for Weldon, Williams & Lick. He was pack master for the Cub Scouts, coached baseball in the Tri-County Baseball summer league, played softball for the Ben Geren Softball Association for 15 years and fished in the Wal-Mart B.F.L. Fishing Series League.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Smith Mortuary Chapel in Charleston with burial at Morris Cemetery in Bloomer under the direction of Smith Mortuary of Charleston.
He is survived by his wife, Deanna of the home; a daughter, Tiffany Anne Spiers of the home; two sons, Jesse Lee Spiers of the home and Patrick B. Whitbey; his mother and stepfather, Linda and Frank Spiers of Charleston; his father and stepmother, Johnny and Donna Carnathon of Mena; his maternal grandmother, Agatha Cumbie of Spiro; two sisters, Lisa Lincks of Charleston and Sheila Carnathon of Shreveport, La.; four brothers, Doyle Spiers of Spiro, James Carnathon of Mena, Frank Spiers of Spiro and James Carnathon of Mena; and two granddaughters.
Pallbearers will be Marvin Sorey, David Hewitt, Jay Bob Puckett, Randy Stockburger, Gary Gunselman, Karl Laborn and Sam Newby.

Kinford Cole
Kinford Cole, 86, of Lavaca died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2003, in his home. He was born May 20, 1917, in Sebastian County. He was a rock mason for W.P.A., retired from Riverside Furniture in Fort Smith and Lavaca Public School system and a member of Lavaca Assembly of God church. He was an avid crappie fisherman, gardener and St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Ruby Brewer Cole; one son, Randy Cornell; one grandson, Dale Cole; and one granddaughter, Melissa Cole.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. today at Smith Mortuary Chapel in Charleston with burial at Morris Cemetery in Bloomer under the direction of Smith Mortuary of Charleston.
He is survived by his wife, Billie Jean of the home; a daughter, Paula Scoggins of Springdale; three sons, Ernest Cole of Mulberry, Floyd Cole of Lavaca and Kenneth Roy Cole of Fort Smith; three brothers, Henry Cole and Blaine Cole, both of Fort Smith, and Paul Cole of Spiro; 14 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Ricky, Harold, Eddie, Ernie, Eric, Kinney and Alaric Cole, Loren, Ross and Jody Scoggins and Justin Cornell.

Roy Bilyeu
ROLAND — Roy Bilyeu, 70, of Roland died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003, in Fort Smith. He was born March 11, 1933, in Akins, Okla. He was a general laborer and a Baptist.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. today at Seabolt Cemetery north of Muldrow under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw.
He is survived by a daughter, Rene of Perry, Okla.; four sons, Roy and Chuck Bilyeu, both of Perry, Okla., Albert and Roy Bilyeu, both of Nicut community; two brothers, Ray Bilyeu of Kansas and Bennie Bilyeu of Sallisaw; and several grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be James Ridenour, John, Norvan, Harley, Ryan and Jason Bilyeu.

Thelma Brown
ARKOMA — Thelma Mae Brown, 71, of Arkoma died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003, in Fort Smith. She was a member of Word of Faith Tabernacle in Fort Smith and the widow of Joseph Brown.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Mallory Funeral Home Chapel in Spiro with burial at New Hope Cemetery in Spiro.
She is survived by two daughters, Deborah Melton of Muldrow and Kimberly Crockett of Arkoma; three sons, Rick Brown of Fort Smith, Robbie Brown of Arkoma and Wendell Brown of Bonanza; two sisters, Olene New of Coolidge, Ariz., and Martha McBath of Tulare, Calif.; two brothers, Junior New of Tucson, Ariz., and Garry New of Coolidge, Ariz.; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Draper and Derrick Crone, William Melton, David Bowling, Jerry Davis and Jeremy Moran.
The body may be viewed at the funeral home.

Estella McCollister
BIG FORK — Estella McCollister, 79, of Big Fork died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003, in her home. She was born Aug. 10, 1923, in Jonesboro. She was an office manager and part owner of a Smoke Shop in St. Paul, Minn., a hairdresser, a member of Big Fork Baptist Church and president of Big Fork Community Center. She was the widow of Charles McCollister.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Hall Funeral Service Memorial Chapel in Mena.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto, Ill., with burial at Valhalla Memorial Park.
She is survived by a daughter, Romonia Snowden of Mena; and a brother, Frank McPherson of Big Fork.
Pallbearers will be Rick and Kelly Zalsman, Harry Spann Jr., Tim and Sean Stoehner and Frank McPherson.
The family will visit with friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home in Illinois.

Jewell Hilton
MENA — Jewell Kathryn Hilton, 76, of Mena died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003, in her home. She was born Jan. 9, 1927, in Russellville. She was a member of Union Mission Pentecostal Church of God, past president of the Women’s Auxiliary, a Sunday school teacher and past member of Women’s International Bowling Congress. She was the widow of Richard Hilton.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Union Mission Pentecostal Church of God with burial at Liberty Cemetery in Board Camp under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.
She is survived by two daughters, Brenda Woody of Dardanelle and Janice Turbyfill of Mena; a son, Richard Hilton Jr. of Mena; her mother, Vera Mitchell of Mena; three sisters, Elwanda Harper of Mena, Sylvia Ventris of Fort Smith and Norma Drager of Houston; two brothers, Jimmy Mitchell of Texarkana, Ark., and Kenneth Mitchell of Kansas City, Kan.; and seven grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Greg Mitchell, Freddie, Jerry, Dennis and Michael Harper and Martin Atkins.

Johnny Justice
LONDON — Johnny Lee Justice, 34, of London died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003, in Clarksville. He was in dietiary at Johnson Regional Medical Center in Clarksville and attended Flat Rock Assembly of God.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Flat Rock Assembly of God in London with burial at East Point Cemetery in London under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home of Clarksville.
He is survived by his wife, Shamra; a daughter, Rachel Justice of the home; a son, Jonathan Justice of the home; his parents, J.R. and Bessie Philpot of Pottsville; six sisters, Cindy Hedrick of Hattieville, Dawn Haught of London, Malinda Ford of Dover, Christy Johnson of Atkins, Randy Brandol of Jacksonville, Fla., and Destine Philpot of Russellville; and a brother, John Philpot of Mountain Home.
Pallbearers will be Gary Ford, Robert Hedrick, Mark Brown, Gary Hiland, Joe Villalabos and Marty Tumbleson.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Eugene Hartsell
SALLISAW — Eugene Hartsell, 46, of Sallisaw died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003, in Sallisaw. He was born May 9, 1957, in Holly Grove, Ark. He was a graduate of Sallisaw Central School, a general laborer and attended Akins Assembly of God.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Akins Cemetery northeast of Sallisaw under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw.
He is survived by two sisters, Georgia Long of Mountain Pine and Barbara White of Hot Springs; and a brother, Jerry Hartsell of Holly Grove.
The body may be viewed 1 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

James Horney
WALDRON — James F. “Jimbo” Horney, 41, of Waldron died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003, in a local hospital. He was a self-employed truck driver.
No services are scheduled at this time. The body will be cremated under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
He is survived by two daughters, Katrina Horney of Phoenix and Sabrina Horney of Yuma, Ariz.; a sister, Lisa Brennaman of Garden City, Kan.; and two brothers, Marcus Horney of Garden City, Kan., and Matthew Horney of Junction City, Kan.

Alfreda Belt
Alfreda Belt, 59, of Van Buren died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003, in a local hospital. She was a homemaker and a member of Concord Baptist Church.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at King Cemetery in Mulberry under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
She is survived by her husband, Buddy; two daughters, Sandra Davis of Chester and Dana Phillips of Fort Smith; a son, Randy Belt of Mountainburg; a sister, Barbara Upton of Oklahoma City; two brothers, Lawrence and Billy Clark, both of Van Buren; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be her family members.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

William Dorr
BRUSHY — William Edward “Bill” Dorr, 48, of Brushy community died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003, in Sallisaw. He born May 8, 1955, in Steuben, Maine. He was a graduate of Blue Hill Academy High School in Blue Hill, Maine, a veteran of the Coast Guard, a mechanic, car salesman, truck driver and operated a professional lawn care service and attended Brushy Holiness Church.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Brushy Holiness Church with burial at Brushy Cemetery north of Sallisaw under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw.
He is survived by his wife, Sheila; two daughters, Michelle Dorr and Kimberly O’Neal, both of Sallisaw; his parents, Gilbert and Elaine Dorr of Blue Hill, Maine; three sisters, Sally Judkins, Sue Hatch and Cheryl Walden, all of Penobscot, Maine; and maternal grandparents, William and Lillian Colsons of Steuben, Maine.
Pallbearers will be Harold Rodgers, Herb Riggs, Kendall Marley, Teddy Sells, Archie Risenhoover and Michey Wheeler.
The body may be viewed 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Charlie Bennett
MANSFIELD — Charlie Edgar Bennett, 86, of Mansfield died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2003, in a Fort Smith hospital. He was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of VFW and attended Rock Creek Baptist Church, a Navy veteran of World War II, was retired from Skinner Studios and Kmart and drove a bus for the Mansfield School system for 20 years.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Rock Creek Baptist Church with burial at 10 a.m. Monday at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Martin Funeral Home of Mansfield.
He is survived by his wife, Katie; a daughter, Janet Morgan of Columbus, Ga.; a son, Charles Bennett Jr. of Fort Worth, Texas; a stepdaughter, Carol Brooks of DeQueen; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Nelton and Josh Henley, L.D. Vines, Lee English, Russell Huskey and Jim Smith.
The body may be viewed 2 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will visit with friends from 4 to 6 p.m.

Gary Pryor Sr.
BIG LAKE, La. — Gary Neal Pryor Sr., 62, of Big Lake, La., formerly of Bokoshe, died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2003.
Funeral was held Thursday at Robinson Funeral Home Chapel in Sulphur, La.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Old Bokoshe Cemetery under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.
He is survived by two daughters, Tammy Menasco of Sulphur, La., and Carrie Richard of Moss Bluff, La.; two sons, Darrel and Gary Neal Jr., both of Lake Charles, La.; four sisters, Paula Hartsfield of Greenwood, Ella Newly of Sulphur, La., Delores Woods of Cameron and Mitzi Craig of Mansfield; two brothers, Roy Pryor of Bokoshe and Edward Pryor of Morris, Okla.; and eight grandchildren.

Elva Gibson
Elva “Ottie” Gibson of Van Buren died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2003, in a local hospital. He was a retired paint contractor and member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Van Buren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Gracelawn Cemetery in Van Buren.
He is survived by his wife, Lucy; two daughters, Carol Parks and Sondra Miller, both of Van Buren; two sisters, Dorothy Comer of Van Buren and Jean Joiner of Houston; a brother, Doug Gibson of Van Buren; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jason Parks, Ben Shirley, Shannon Miller, Tommy Poole, Jim and David Gibson.
The family will visit with friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Bennie Conner
BARLING — Bennie Edward Conner, 69, of Barling died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2003, in Fort Smith. He was employed by a vending facility program for the blind and was a member of First Baptist Church in Barling, a board member for the Association of Blind Vendors and a lightweight wrestler for the School For The Blind in Little Rock.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Barling with burial at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Fort Smith under the direction of Fentress Mortuary of Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Kathryn; three daughters, Cheryl Chapman of Van Buren, Cynthia Asbury and Carolyn Conner, both of Fort Smith; two sisters, Dana Boehm of Siloam Springs and Peggy Shank of Little Rock; three brothers, George of El Dorado, Noel of Marianna and Glen of Durant, Okla.; and seven grandchildren.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Building Fund First Baptist Church of Barling, 602 Church St., Barling, AR 72923.
