Ruby Carpenter
TULSA — Ruby Marie Jewel Carpenter, 46, of Tulsa, formerly of Keota, died Sunday, Aug. 17, 2003, in Tulsa.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at Mallory Funeral Home Chapel in Stigler with burial at Keota Cemetery.
She is survived by three sons, Thomas, Gary and Dustin Carpenter, all of Tulsa; three sisters, Eunice Grisby of Tulsa, Anna Carpenter of Sallisaw and Joyce Melise of Fort Worth, Texas; three brothers, Joe Green of Wetumka, Okla., Sonny Robinson of Iuka, Miss., and Kenneth Carpenter of Siloam Springs; and three grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Gary and Thomas Carpenter, Charles Benavidez, Michael Grigsby, John Green and Tony and Bruce Mize.

Reta Gilyard
Reta Kay Gilyard, 49, of Fort Smith died Monday, Aug. 18, 2003, in a local hospital. She was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church where she was a member of the Women’s Missionary Society and the choir, and she was a self-employed beautician.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Missionary Baptist Church with burial at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Rowell-Parish Mortuary of Fort Smith.
She is survived by her husband, Butch; a daughter, Shelba of the home; a son, Butch Jr. of Fort Smith; her mother and stepfather, Mary and David Hall of Wichita, Kan.; a sister, Shirl Page of Fort Smith; and two grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Bishop, Stanley Releford, Peter LeFevre, Bill Hampton, Neal Brownlow and Michael DeAtley.
The body may be viewed 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, where the family will visit with friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Charles E. Marion
Charles E. Marion, 80, of Van Buren died Saturday, Aug. 16, 2003, in Little Rock. He was a Army veteran of World War II and a member of Parkview Alliance Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Orr and Nola Marion; five sisters, Mildred Stump, Lora Mae Warner, Edna McHugh and Margaret and Gladys Marion; two brothers, Harold and Glen Marion; and two grandchildren, Mark Gentry and Jennifer Hope Marion.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma June Marion of the home; three daughters, Linda Downs of Columbus, Ann Wise of Van Buren and Sue Suter of Fort Smith; a son, Gaylen Dean Marion of Van Buren; a sister, Dorothea Lambi of Des Moines, Iowa; 18 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Stephen Wise, Dean Marion Jr., Donnie Gentry, Jon Wells, Brandon Gish, Terry Hollan, Thomas Deters and A.K. McBride.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ed Bean, Mel Jones and Leon Gentry.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Jack Hall
Jack Hall, 73, of Van Buren died Monday, Aug. 18, 2003, in a local hospital. He was a retired tool and die maker for Rheem Manufacturing in Fort Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eldon and Jessie M. Hall and a brother, Jerry Hall.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Gill Cemetery in Van Buren.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley of the home; a daughter, Jackie Clotfelter of Van Buren; a son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Martha Hall of Rowlett, Texas; two brothers, Tom and Ruth Hall of Decatur, Ill., and Gary and Helen Hall of Aiken, S.C.; four grandchildren, Courtney and Cara Clotfelter, both of Van Buren, Stevie and Ruben Salas, both of Rowlett, Texas. Also, he also is survived by a number of nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be his family members.

Ruth Simmons
Ruth Simmons, 91, of Alma died Monday, Aug. 18, 2003, in Pocola. Mrs. Simmons was born Jan. 13, 1912, in Mountainburg. She was a lifelong resident of Crawford County and a member of Alma Heights Missionary Baptist Church. Mrs. Simmons was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Simmons, a son, James Simmons and a grandson, Ricky Simmons.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Ocker Funeral Home Chapel in Alma with burial at Peters Cemetery in Mountainburg.
She is survived by a daughter, Norma Hance of Pocola; a son, Darrell Simmons of Fort Smith; 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and three God children.
Pallbearers will be Paul Meadows, Bill Cole, Ron Southall, Jason Taylor, Aaron Jones and Steve Swires.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Alma Heights Missionary Baptist Church.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Zora Ashlock
Zora Ashlock, 100, of Van Buren died Monday, Aug. 18, 2003, in a local nursing home. She was a homemaker and a member of Second Baptist Church of Van Buren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Van Ashlock; a daughter, Vana Shoop and two sons, Jay and Billy Ashlock.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Gill Cemetery in Van Buren.
She is survived by three daughters, Shirley Burkhart, Patsy Burkhart and Phyllis Moore, all of Van Buren; two sons, Elmer Ashlock and Donnie Ashlock, both of Van Buren; also survived by a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Brad Francis, Ricky Ashlock, Keith and Randy Burkhart, Gary Moore and Donnie Ashlock Jr.
Honorary pallbearers will be her other grandsons.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Virginia Ann King
Virginia Ann King, 57, of Fort Smith died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2003, in Fort Smith. She was a retired employee of Gerber Co., and she attended the Southside Church of the Nazarene in Sallisaw.
Graveside service will be 1 p.m. today at Forest Park Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
She is survived by a daughter, Vickie Beverage of Fort Smith; two sons, Gary Don King and Roger Dale King, both of Fort Smith; her father, Raymond Forbus of Fort Smith; her grandmother, Katie Gibson of Moffett; and four grandchildren.

Dean C. Parker
Dean C. Parker, 87, of Fort Smith passed away Monday, Sept. 15, 2003. She was preceded in death by her husband, William L. “Bill” Parker. She was a graduate of Daughn’s Business College, a retired bookkeeper for Farmers Coop and a member of Central Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years, as well as former deacon and elder. She was a member and vice president of the Home Demonstration Club, a member and treasurer of the Democratic Women’s Club, a member of RSVP, the UCT Club and a Sparks Hospital volunteer. She was the widow of William Parker.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 22, 2003, at Central Presbyterian Church and a private graveside service will be held Wednesday at Forest Park Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
She is survived by a daughter, Margaret A. Sparkman of Van Buren; three sons, James W. Parker and Larry Joe Parker, both of Van Buren, and Thomas M. Parker of Alma; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

James E. “J.E.” Tabor
James E. “J.E.” Tabor, 60, of Muldrow died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2003, in Sallisaw. He was born March 14, 1943, in Long, Okla. He was an employee of Rheem Manufacturing in the maintenance department, a former reserve deputy for the Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Department, also trained reserve and auxiliary police officers, a member of American Legion Post No. 150, an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War and of the Assembly of God faith. He was preceded in death by his father, Emize “Red” Tabor, and one sister, Janet Tabor.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. today at Liberty Assembly of God north of Roland with burial at Upper Camp Creek Cemetery northeast of Muldrow under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Roland.
He is survived by a daughter, Dawn Kelley of Alma; a son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Paula Tabor of Orlando, Fla.; his mother and stepfather, Leora Faye and Bobby Faulkner of Muldrow; two sisters, Teresa Tabor of Fort Smith and Karen Chapen of Muldrow; and three grandsons, Timothy Kelley of Alma, Brian Elder and Richard Elder, both of Orlando, Fla.
Pallbearers will be Harvey, Arlin and John Rogers, Kenneth and Junior O’Neal, Randy Hall and Ronnie Hoover.

Martha Ann Houston
Martha Ann Houston, 95, of Vian died Monday, Sept. 15, 2003, in Roland. She was born June 10, 1908, in Eureka Springs. She was a homemaker, a Pentecostal and the widow of Curby Wilfax Houston.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003 at First Baptist Church in Blackgum with burial at Box Cemetery north of Vian under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw.
She is survived by four daughters and three sons-in-law, Louise and Donnie Moss of Spiro, Rema Lou James of Vian and Lois and Bob Rape of Vian and Linda and Richard Russell of Muldrow; a son and daughter-in-law, Denny and Carol Houston of Vian; two sisters, Amanda Young of Dallas and Mabel Usher of Lincoln, Calif.; 11 grandchildren including a granddaughter who was like a daughter, Brinda Garrett of Fort Smith; 15 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Joe Mannon, Shawn Houston, Steve Russell, Ron White, Marcus Volz and Nathan White.
The body may be viewed 1 to 9 p.m. today at Agent Funeral Home in Sallisaw, where family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Zollen L. Tucker Sr.
Zollen L. Tucker Sr., 63, of Alma died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2003, in his home. He was born July 11, 1940, in Mount Pleasant, Tenn. He was a Marine Corps veteran and served during the Vietnam War and was a retired electronic technician for the Marine Corps. He received the Navy Achievement Medal, the National Defense Medal, seven Good Conduct Medals, five letters of Accommodations, two Meritorious Unit Citations and was a rifle and pistol expert, and was a Protestant. He was preceded in death by his father, Herbert L. Tucker Sr. and a brother, Herbert L. Tucker Jr.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday Sept. 18, 2003, at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith with burial and full military honors at Forest Park Cemetery in Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Marlene of the home; four daughters, Christina Johnston of Barling, Terry Thompson of Panama, Sharlene Johnson of Fort Smith and Nancy Tew of Oklahoma City; two sons, Tim Tucker of Panama and Zollen Tucker Jr. of Cheyenne, Wyo.; his mother, Matilda Tucker of Centerburg, Ohio; two sisters, Betty Delgado of Centerburg, Ohio, and Pat Howard of Charlotte, N.C.; two brothers, Anthony Tucker of Shirley, Mass., and Carter Tucker of Fredericksburg, Ohio; and 12 grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be military.
The family will visit with friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Lead Garland
STIGLER — Leda M. Garland, 100, of Stigler died Monday, Sept. 15, 2003, in Stigler. She was a charter member of the Home Demonstration Club, of the Missionary Baptist faith and the widow of Zenas Garland.
Graveside service will be 11:30 a.m. today at Garland Cemetery in Stigler under the direction of Mallory Funeral Home of Stigler.
She is survived by three daughters, Wilma Garland of Stigler, Lucille Frizzell of Tulsa and Eva Merriman of Tamaha, Okla.; six grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Marjorie Russell
STIGLER — Marjorie J. Russell, 93, of Stigler died Monday, Sept. 15, 2003, in Stigler. She graduated with the Class of 1930 in Stigler and a member of First Baptist Church in Stigler.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Stigler with burial at Stigler Cemetery under the direction of King & Shearwood Funeral Home of Stigler.
She is survived by a daughter, Barbara Pugh of Quinton, Okla.; six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Raymond and Ron Baker, Dewayne Bray, Jack Ford, David Sizemore and Doug Elders.

Earl Seay
GORE — Earl W. Seay, 51, of Gore died Sunday, Sept. 14, 2003, in Gore. He was born July 9, 1952, in Sallisaw. He was a graduate of Gore High School. He worked in the maintenance department for the City of Muskogee, Okla., and was a Protestant.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Agent Funeral Home Chapel in Gore with burial at Round Mountain Cemetery east of Gore.
He is survived by his mother, Alta of the home; a sister, Pearl Ames of Prue, Okla.; four brothers, George Seay of Gore, Paul Seay of Warner, Okla., Raymond Seay of Porter, Okla., and Frank Seay of Bentonville.
The body may be viewed 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at the funeral home.
