Garland Dodd
Garland “Jack” Dodd, 77, of Fort Smith died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2003, in a local hospital. He was born June 20, 1926, in Oklahoma. He was retired from the Army, of the Baptist faith, a member of D.A.V. American Legion No. 31 Eli Stouffer Post.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at U.S. Cemetery in Fort Smith with full military honors.
He is survived by his wife Lennie; four daughters, Faye Hapka of Lawton, Okla., Deborah Kennemore of Tulsa, Jackqueline Schulterman of Dallas and Bessie Choate of Ozark; three sons, Ronnie Dodd of Fort Smith, William Dodd of Jenks, Okla., and Jack Lucy of Siloam Springs; eight sisters, Joyce Branham of Barling, Bessie Stevenson of Santa Rosa, Calif., Mildred Smith of Iowa, Carol Parrish and Joy Weems, both of Van Buren, Roseann Bristow and Wilma Phillips, both of Fayetteville, and Sue Pool of Fort Smith; two brothers, Billy Dodd of Porter, Okla. and Toy Dodd of Oklahoma; 17 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Stanley Hapka, Jason, Adam, Joshua and Kelly Dodd and Mike Lucy.
The family will visit with friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Marie Combs
CAULKSVILLE — Marie Combs, 89, of Caulksville died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2003, in her home. She was born Jan. 11, 1914, in Logan County. She was co-founder with her husband, Paul and owner of Combs Home Builders and House Moving. She was Arkansas’ only certified builder for VA, FHA and HUD houses to be moved, was a member of Arkansas and National House Movers Association, the Building Trades Association, was selected as a honored member of Who’s Who in Executives and Professionals and was a member of North Logan County Chamber of Commerce, United States Chamber of Commerce and the United States Jaycees. She received the Community Service Award for Logan and Franklin Counties for Manufacturers Expo, was a benefactor of North Logan Mercy Hospital, a benefactor and member of DAV Commanders Club, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of Caulksville Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She was the widow of James Combs.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Caulksville Cumberland Presbyterian Church with burial at Caulksville City Cemetery under the direction of Smith Mortuary of Charleston.
She is survived by a daughter, Ann Cantrell of Caulksville; two sons, Donald Combs of Central City and Red Combs of Caulksville; two sisters, Lucille Layman of Graham, Texas, and Juanita Powell of Ratcliff; three brothers, Marvin Hill of Seneca, S.C., Dwight Hill of Logansport, La., and Lindell Hill of Caulksville; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Francis Frederick, Bud Turk, Steve Moody, Bud Organ, Charles Cagle, James Sprick, Steve Hertlein and Michael Beeton.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Carl Wilson Jr.
ROLAND — Carl Edward Wilson Jr., 52, of Roland died Monday, Sept. 8, 2003, in Sallisaw. He was a member of Roland Hills Baptist Church and a civil service worker at Fort Chaffee.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Roland Hills Baptist Church in Roland with burial at Roland City Cemetery under the direction of Fentress Mortuary of Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Cindy; three daughters, Jessica, Haylie and Tawnya Wilson, all of Roland; two stepdaughters, Shannon Foster of California and Kylie Hurst of Las Vegas; two stepsons, Steven Foster of California and Garrett Hurst of Roland; his mother, Jeannine Wilson of Roland; two sisters, Portia Ramey and Vickie Cherry, both of Muldrow; and one grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Ray Redden, Larry and Robert Ramey, Lee Massey, David Stults and Garrett Hurst.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Brenda Anderson
Brenda Kay Anderson, 42, of Fort Smith died Monday, Sept. 8, 2003, in a local hospital. She was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Roland with burial at Sarah Grove Cemetery near Cedarville under the direction of Rowell-Parish Mortuary of Fort Smith.
She is survived by six sisters, Janice Frye, Earnestine Morales and Mary Duncan, all of Fort Smith, Gay Garcia of Lexington, N.C., Linda Duncan of Charleston, N.C., and Tabitha Duncan of Bakersfield, Calif.; a brother, Ernest Duncan of Charleston.
Pallbearers will be William Collins, Isaiah and Reese Dumas, Randy Duncan, Tommy Gregory, John Heikes, Herbert Norwood and Danny Shelly.

Noulee Webb
Noulee Bausley Webb, 60, of Fort Smith died Monday, Sept. 1, 2003, in Dewater, Calif. She was born April 11, 1946, in Fordyce. She was a member of Freedom Temple Apostolic Church in Fort Smith.
Funeral was held Sept. 10, 2003, at Bethlehem Temple in Monrovia, Calif., under the direction of Turner and Stevens Live Oak Funeral Chapel in Monrovia, Calif.
She is survived by her husband, Charles; a daughter, Teresa Webb of Fort Smith; a son, Jerome Webb of Fort Smith; six sisters and four brothers.

John Suvada Jr.
John Suvada Jr., 83, of Paris passed away Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2003, in a Paris hospital. He was born in Chicago in 1919. Retired from the Metropolitan Sanitary district of Chicago before moving to Paris in 1975. He was the Service Officer of the Logan County Office of Veterans Affairs from 1980 until his death. He served in the Merchant Marines and Navy during World War II.
He was a member of Arkansas Veterans Service Association where he served as president of American Legion for 25 years, served as the NW Arkansas Region, 16th District commander and vice commander; a Rotary member where he served as president in 1985; Selective Service member; DAV member; Knights of Columbus; awarded the Family of the Month in 1998; served as vice president of the North Logan County Helping Hands and chairman of Paris Chamber of Commerce.
He is survived by his wife, Felicia Kurek Suvada of Paris; daughters, Nadine Ackmann and husband, Darrell of Virginia and Linda Burnett of Texas; a brother, Robert Suvada; grandsons, Brad Ackmann and Jake and Luke Burnett; and nephews, Robert Suvada and Ron and Tom Samuel. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Suvada Sr. and Suzanne Krajewicz Suvada; sisters, Susan and Dorothy and sister-in-law, Esther Suvada.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. today at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Paris with burial to follow at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Murry Funeral Home of Paris.

Clatie Dell Warren
Clatie Dell Warren, 82, of Fort Smith died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2003, in a local hospital. She was born June 5, 1921, in Cornatzer, N.C. She was a retired pharmacist after 30 years of service and a member of First Christian Church.
Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 12, 2003 at First Christian Church in Fort Smith under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.
She is survived by a stepdaughter, Darenda Mallard and husband, Neal of Wimberly, Texas; a stepson, Gary Warren and wife, Marilyn of Los Alamos, N.M; one stepgranddaughter; and one stepgrandson; two nephews, Douglas Brown and wife, Carol of Fort Smith and Grady W. Brown and wife, Terri of Rockledge, Fla.; two great-nieces; one great-nephews; two great-great-nieces; and two great-great-nephews.
The family will visit with friends Friday, Sept. 12, 2003, after the service at the church.

Dennis Wayne Huggins
Dennis Wayne Huggins, 50, of Muldrow died Monday, Sept. 8, 2003, in VA Hospital in Fayetteville. He was born June 19, 1953, in Stillwater, Okla. He served in the 82nd Airborne Division of the Army at Fort Bragg, N.C., and as a Green Beret. He was an active member of the Disabled American Veterans where he served as a senior vice commander. He was a Mason.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 12, 2003 at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith with full military honors under the direction of Putman Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
He is survived by two daughters, Desiree Huggins and Delana Huggins, both of Roland; a son, David Huggins of Greenwood; his mother, Claudine Huggins of Fort Smith; two sisters, Angela Davis of Des Moines, Iowa, and Cheri Moore of Fort Smith; a brother, Michael Huggins of Fort Smith; and one grandchild, Dylan Huggins of Greenwood.

Jeanie Yandell
Jeanie Yandell, 50, of Fort Smith died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2003, in a local hospital. She was a secretary for PC Hardware, a member of Central Baptist Church and a choir member.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 12, 2003, at Central Baptist Church with burial at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Fort Smith under the direction of Putman Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
She is survived by her husband, Bob of the home; two sons, Lee E. Yandell and Jackson L. Yandell, both of Fort Smith; her parents, Jesse and Betty Graves of Fort Smith; her in-laws, Herman and Jo Yandell of Fort Smith; sister-in-law and husband, Sandy and Phillip Finerson of Collerville, Tenn.; brother-in-law and wife, Steve and Nancy Yandell of Fort Smith; brother and sister-in-law, Alvin and Judy Graves of Fort Smith; nieces and nephews, Sarah and Andrea Graves, Shelly Payton, Scott and Alan Geren and Joe Yandell.
Pallbearers will be John Earnhart, Don Hill, Ricky Brooks, Neal Hampton, Lindy Rogers and Sid Johnson.

Charles “Chuck” Smith, 42, of Fort Smith died Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2003, in Fort Smith. He was a member of Bluff Avenue Baptist Church and he was a diesel mechanic.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. today at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Steward Cemetery in Mountainburg,
He is survived by his wife, Valerie Smith of Fort Smith; a daughter, Morgan Smith of Fort Smith; his parents, Frank C. and Carolyn A. BOONEVILLE — Charles Eugene Pense, 51, of Booneville died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2003, in a local hospital.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at Pense-Reed Cemetery in Winfrey Valley under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
He is survived by eight sisters, Alice Shell of Fort Smith, Betty Sanders of West Fork, Evelyn Pense, Ann Bemrose and Sharon Fraley, all of Winslow, Connie Gunem of West Siloam Springs, Ellen Seely of Hot Springs and Kay Langley of Mountainburg; four brothers, Amos Pense of Fall River, Kan., Alvis Pense of Mountainburg, Jack Pense and Lonnie Seely, both of Winslow.

Nannie Smith
GORE — Nannie Annie Kathlina Smith, 81, of Gore died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2003, in Gore. She was born Dec. 31, 1921, in Gore. She was a homemaker, a member of First United Methodist Church in Gore and the widow of Willie Smith.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Gore with burial at Gore Cemetery under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Gore.
She is survived by three daughters, Lucille Applen and Sharon Smith, both of Gore, and Carlyn Abercrombie of Sallisaw; six sons, Bobby Rogers of Muldrow, Sidney Smith of Ferris, Texas, Willie Smith of Webbers Falls, Okla., Roy Smith of Gore, Jessie Smith of Garland, Texas, and Jimmie Smith of Mesquite, Texas; 31 grandchildren; and 54 great-grandchildren.
The body may be viewed 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Stephen Shonkwiler
MULDROW — Stephen Jay Shonkwiler, 66, of Muldrow died Thursday, Sept. 4, 2003, in Fort Smith. He was born Aug. 20, 1937, in California. He was co-owner and operator of Emerald City Carpet Cleaning in Washington state and was a Protestant.
Memorial service will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Sallisaw. Cremation under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra; four children; three stepchildren; two sisters; and a brother.
