Carrie Lawana Hawk
Carrie Lawana Hawk, 90, of Fort Smith died Saturday, April 3, 2004, in her home. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Church of Christ. She was a lifetime member of PTA and a Girl Scouts troop leader.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Putman Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
She is survived by her husband, Quentin of the home; three daughters, Freddi Turcotte of Tecumseh, Mich., Nanci Wheeler of Skiatook, Okla., and Joyce Price of Jacksonville; five grandchildren, Lisa Williams, Wendi Wheeler, Melinda Lerma, Brad Wheeler III and Jason Turcotte; and seven great-grandchildren.

Marie Ann Eckart
Marie Ann Eckart, 89, of Subiaco died Saturday, April 3, 2004, in Subiaco of natural causes. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church, and Mother’s Society. Preceding her in death were her parents, Joe and Theresia (Koeingseder) Schluterman; husband, Edward Eckart; three sisters, Cecelia Sprick, Olevia Seiter, and Martha Schluterman; and a son-in-law, Ed Ward.
Rosary will be 7:45 p.m. today at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Subiaco.
Mass and burial service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 7, 2004, at St. Benedict Catholic Church with burial at St. Benedict Cemetery in Subiaco under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Paris.
She is survived by five daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and E.H. Lensing of Subiaco, Roselyn and John Layes of Subiaco, Charlotte Ward of Subiaco, Linda Starling of Memphis and Janet Brazzel of Little Rock; three sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Mary Eckart of Russellville, Greg and Betty Eckart of Charleston, and Eddie and Rhonda Eckart of Batesville; five sisters, Elizabeth Waddel, Kathryn Reith, JoAnn Vonderheide, and Virginia Klein, all of Fort Smith, and Gertrude Etzkorn of Subiaco; two brothers, Ed Schluterman and J.J. Schluterman, both of Fort Smith; 21 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jay Layes, Doug Lensing, Bob Eckart, Jamie Ward, Kevin Eckart and Jeremy Eckart.

James M. Walls
James M. Walls, 89, of Blue Mountain died Sunday, April 4, 2004, in Booneville. James was a 1933 graduate of Magazine High School. He attended Arkansas Tech University in Russellville, known then as Arkansas Poly-Technical College. He was a member of the Arkansas National Guard 206 Coast Artillery. He served as a tech 3 in the medical unit of the Army from 1941 to 1945. His tour of duty took him to Dutch Harbor, Alaska, in the Aleutian Islands during World War II for three years. He spent the next 18 months in Germany and France. He served as a medical technician in Rhineland, Central Europe and Aleutian Islands. He was awarded three Bronze Stars, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, American Defense Service Ribbon with Bronze Star, European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre Campaign Ribbon and five Overseas Bars. He enlisted in the National Guard in October 1940. He taught GI schooling after the war and was a former teacher at Booneville High School, a former chicken farmer and cattle rancher. He was a member of the Magazine American Legion Post No. 109 and a member of the Magazine First United Methodist Church.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday, April 8, 2004, at First United Methodist Church with burial at Blue Mountain Cemetery in Blue Mountain under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Booneville.
He is survived by his wife Zona Walls of Booneville; one daughter and son-in-law, Willota and Duane Andrews of Booneville; one sister, Genevieve Jezesik of Owings, Md.; grandchildren, Braden Walls, Brittany Charles, Wesley, Jim, Dustin and Russell Andrews; and two great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Duane Andrews, Jim Andrews, Wesley Andrews, Dustin Andrews, Russell Andrews and Braden Walls.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dan Jones, Danny Jones, John Jezesik, Leland Garner, Cline Page and Bobby McGehee.
The family will visit with friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, at Roller Funeral Home Chapel in Booneville.
Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 593, Magazine, AR 72943.

Mark Kerr
Mark Freeman Kerr, 46, of Fort Smith died Thursday, March 25, 2004. He was the manager of Davis Furniture Store in Fort Smith.
Funeral was held March 29, 2004, at Roller-Owens Funeral Home Chapel in North Little Rock with burial at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Cabot.
He is survived by his fiancee, Rebecca King of Fort Smith; a daughter, Lanie Kerr of Little Rock; a son, Joshua Kerr of Fort Smith; his parents, Bill and Mary Kerr of Cabot; and a brother, Gary Kerr of Dallas.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association, 909 W. Second St., Little Rock, AR 72201.

James Martin
James A. Martin, 47, of Fort Smith died Monday, April 5, 2004, in a Fort Smith hospital. He was a member of Old Time Holiness Church.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Woodlawn Memorial Park Chapel with burial at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
He is survived by his mother, Audrey Martin of Fort Smith.
The family will visit with friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Reece Barnsley
CLARKSVILLE — Reece Barnsley, of Clarksville died Saturday, April 3, 2004. He was born Sept. 24, 1910, in Lamar, Mo. He was a former employee of Southwest Times Record in Fort Smith and Arkansas Democrat Gazette, a graduate of Clarksville High School and College of the Ozarks, was a combat veteran of World War II in France, Germany, and Austria, was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, the European Theater Ribbon, and the Good Conduct Metal, was co-publisher of the Clarksville Herald Democrat and a member of First United Methodist Church in Clarksville.
Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Highland Cemetery in Ozark under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home of Clarksville.
He is survived by his wife, Lois; two daughters, Lynn Momberger of Pensacola, Fla., and Mary Martindale of Malabar, Fla.; and two grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to University of Ozarks Alumni Association, 415 N. College, Clarksville, AR 72830.

James Moss
MENA — James C. Moss, 69, of Mena died Sunday, April 4, 2004, in Mena. He was born Dec. 23, 1934, in Van Buren. He served as a lance corporal in the Marine Corps, was a PBX technical instructor for GTE Telephone Co., and attended Hatfield Assembly of God.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Beasley-Wood Funeral Home Chapel in Mena with burial at Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Opal; a daughter, Karen Moss of Garland Texas; two sons, Kit Moss of Garland, Texas and James Moss of Sachse, Texas; six brothers, Tommy Moss of Salem, Ore., Bob Boyd, of Dumas, Texas, Jackie Boyd of Euless, Texas, Ace Boyd of Lubbock, Texas, Lewis Boyd of Albuquerque, N.M., and Johnny Boyd of Texas; and two grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes. Association.

Neita Tyler
SCRANTON — Neita Tyler, 79, of Scranton died Sunday, April 4, 2004, in Russellville. She was a homemaker and a member of United Methodist church in Scranton.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at United Methodist Church in Scranton with burial at Wares Chapel Cemetery in Dublin under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Paris.
She is survived by her husband, Norman; a daughter, Cheryl Ueckert of Greensboro, N.C.; a sister, Maxine Cox of Little Rock; a brother, James Carter of New Albany, Miss.; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Tommy and Christy McClellan and Jeff and Ronnie Carter.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Vera Brown
CHARLESTON — Vera J. Umholtz Brown, 78, of Charleston died Monday, April 5, 2004, in Charleston. She was born Feb. 2, 1926, in Franklin County. She was a retired nurses aide at Armour Heights Nursing Home in Fort Smith, a member of Mount View Freewill Baptist Church and the widow of Ernest Brown.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Smith Mortuary Chapel in Charleston with burial at Brown’s Chapel Cemetery northeast of Charleston.
She is survived by a daughter, Kathy Dixon of Charleston; a son, Ray Little of Charleston; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Sam, Michael, Jason, Steven and Daniel Little and Tim Hoyt.
Honorary pallbearers will be employees of Greenhurst Nursing Home.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Brandon Robinson
MAGAZINE — Brandon James Robinson, infant son of Larry and Cassandra Robinson of Magazine, died Saturday, April 3, 2004, in Little Rock.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Roller Funeral Home Chapel in Paris with burial at Paint Rock Cemetery in Paris.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Charles Bowerman of Magazine; his grandparents, Marylin Kuyukendall of Las Vegas and Victor Robinson of Paris; great-grandparents, Larry Robinson Sr. and Brenda Robinson of Magazine, and Ruth and Carl Robinson of Paris.

Marvin Gassaway
POTEAU — Marvin S. Gassaway, 79, of Poteau died Sunday, April 4, 2004, in Sugarloaf. He was born Aug. 20, 1924, in Sugarloaf. He worked for the Department of Human Services for the State of Oklahoma and was a member of Primitive Baptist Church in Poteau.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Evans & Miller Funeral Home Chapel of Memories in Poteau with burial at Monroe Cemetery.
He is survived by a brother, Lucian Gassaway Sr. of Monroe.
Pallbearers will be Jimmie Kendall, M.L. Reed, Rick Wilson, Mike Scrimsher, Virgil Musgrove and John Doyle.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Calvin Swimmer
GORE — Calvin Swimmer, 77, of Gore died Monday, April 5, 2004, in Gore. He was born Oct. 9, 1926, in Vian. He was an air craft mechanic at McDonnell Douglas and Falcon Jet, a Baptist, and an Army veteran of World War II.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Agent Funeral Home Chapel in Gore with burial at Box Cemetery north of Vian.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia; two sons, Daryl Swimmer of Tulsa and Terry Swimmer of Gore; a stepdaughter, Susan Hammack of Little Rock; two sisters, Audrey Chiarella of Arizona and Alma Burris of Tulsa; two brothers, John Swimmer of Gore and Loyd Swimmer of Warner, Okla.; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The body may be viewed 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Dean Pense
WINSLOW — Dean Pense, 51, of Winslow (Winfrey Valley) died Sunday, April 4, 2004, in his home. He was born March 14, 1953, in Springdale. He was a member of Chester Freewill Baptist Church and a farmer.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Chester Freewill Baptist Church with burial at Pense-Reed Cemetery in Winslow under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.
He is survived by his wife, Stephanie; a daughter, Emily Pense of Van Buren; a son, Dillon Pense of the home; a stepdaughter, Christine Cooper of the home; his parents, Loyd and Violet Pense of Muldrow; two sisters, Diane Faulkner of Winslow and Denett Ralston of Fayetteville; five brothers, Don, Dwight and Doug Pense, all of Mountainburg, and Darrell and Dick Pense, both of Winslow; and one grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Randy DeLaet, Jerry Graham, Carl LaRue and Jacob, Michael and Harry Nagy.

Reba Whitsett
Reba Jean Whitsett, 76, of Van Buren died Monday, April 5, 2004, in a local hospital. She was a retired licensed practical nurse, having worked at New Haven Nursing Home, Sparks Hospital and for Dr. Darden, a member of Bethlehem Freewill Baptist Church and the widow of Roy Whitsett.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Bethlehem Freewill Baptist Church with burial at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Fort Smith under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
She is survived by three sons, John Whitsett of Fort Smith, Riley and David Whitsett, both of Van Buren; two sisters, Irma Killian of Fresno, Calif., and Linda Reding of Greenwood; two brothers, Doyle Yancey of Fort Smith and Jerald Yancey of Van Buren; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Angel Batesta, Jerry Hawkins, Leon Lamb, Quincy O’Kelley, Vesta Wood, Stephen Staggs and Ronnie Blount.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
