Harold Snow

OZARK — Harold Snow, 80, of Ozark died Sunday, Oct. 10, 2004, in Ozark. He was born March 28, 1924, in Mount Top.

He was a farmer, a Navy veteran, and a member of Bethel Chapel Assembly of God and the NRA.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Ozark with burial at Mount View Cemetery in Ozark.

He is survived by his wife, Dixie; and a brother, Wayne Snow of Seattle.

Pallbearers will be Willie and Archie Davis, Albert and James Nichols, Kirby Vardeman and Jerry McKee.

Marjorie Downs

LONGVIEW, Texas — Marjorie Rowena Downs, 74, of Longview, Texas, formerly of Mena died Sunday, Oct. 10, 2004, in Texas.

She was born Oct. 8, 1930, in Horatio. She was a homemaker and a member of Northside Church of Christ.

Funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Beasley-Wood Funeral Home Chapel in Mena with burial at Millwee Cemetery in Horatio.

She is survived by a daughter, Rita Lawrence of Hallsville, Texas; a son, James Downs Jr. of Little Rock; a sister, Betty Beck of Mena; and a brother, Joe Copelin of New Mexico.

The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Viola Baum

MANSFIELD — Viola Fern Baum, 78, of Mansfield died Monday, Oct. 11, 2004, in a Fort Smith hospital.

She was born March 9, 1926, in Hartford. She was a homemaker and the widow of Max Baum.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at McConnell Funeral Home Chapel in Hartford with burial at Shiloh Cemetery in Mansfield.

She is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Chapman of Mansfield; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Dale and Robby James, Bobby Boydston, Jim Johnson, Steven Shelton and Joey Alexander.

The body may be viewed from 1 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

John Simpson Jr.

MENA — John Logan Simpson Jr., 74, of Mena died Sunday, Oct. 10, 2004, in Mena.

He was born Jan. 11, 1930, in Highland. He was the manager of Synergy Gas in Mena and a member of Mountain View Methodist Church.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church with burial at Gann Cemetery under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.

He is survived by his wife, Dell; three daughters, Kathy McCormick and Lanette Emry, both of Mena, and Louise Buchanan of Fayetteville; a stepdaughter, Susan Rayon of Devers, Texas; three stepsons, Michael Sullivan of Baytown, Texas, Keith Sullivan of Hope, and Kevin Sullivan of Kountze, Texas; a sister, Dene Tillman of Mena; 17 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Gene Hoover, Benny Richardson, Tommy Floyd, Bill McChristiansen, Mike Oglesby and Lewis Waters.

The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Dorothy Scully

Dorothy L. Scully, 86, of Fort Smith died Sunday, Oct. 10, 2004, in Fort Smith.

She was a member of Bluff Avenue Baptist Church in Fort Smith.

Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Oak Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Fentress Mortuary.

She is survived by two sons, Michael Scully of Fort Smith and Pat Scully of Tulsa; a sister, Rachel Rook of Tulsa; two brothers, Orville Carson of Roland and Esco Carson of El Cajon, Calif.; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Willis Powell

OZARK — Willis Robert “Dub” Powell, 79, of Ozark died Thursday, Oct. 7, 2004, in Leavenworth, Kan.

He was born March 31, 1925, in the Cravens community. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and served on the USS Dewey, receiving the American Theater Campaign Ribbon, Victory Medal World War II, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Ribbon with four battle stars, and European-African Middle Eastern Theater Philippine Liberation Ribbon.

He was a lifetime member of Coal Hill Veterans of Foreign Wars, a member of Calvary Mission Baptist Church, and the widower of Betty Powell.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Ozark with burial at Highland Cemetery in Ozark.

He is survived by four daughters, Beth Davis and Susan Lee, both of Shawnee, Kan., Jeanine Holt of Okemah, Okla., and Jonna Beckmann of Rantoul, Kan.; a son, Robert Powell of Merriam, Kan.; two sisters, Doris Jackson of Riverside, Calif. and Shirley Halopoff of Huntington Beach, Calif.; two brothers, Clifton Powell of Arlington, Texas, and Charles Powell of Little Rock; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or a VFW post of the donor’s choice.

Jeanene Harris

Jeanene M. Harris, 75, of Fort Smith died Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004, in Fort Smith.

She was a charter member of Kelly Heights Baptist Church and Windsor Park Baptist Church in Fort Smith, and was a member of First Baptist Church Community Bible Class.

Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Fentress Mortuary Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith.

She is survived by her husband, James; two daughters, Carrie Harris of Rogers and Pat Kirk of Fort Lewis, Wash.; two sons, Jim Harris of Fort Smith and George Harris of Greenwood; one sister, Peggy Hobbs of Van Buren; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Drew, Sarah and Abby Harris, George Harris Jr., Clara and Slater Kirk, Amy Moya and Michael Hugo.

The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Reba Lee Parks Ratterree

Reba Lee Parks Ratterree, 54, of Fort Smith died Sunday, Oct. 10, 2004, in Fort Smith.

She was a homemaker and manager for Braum’s of Fort Smith.

She is survived by two daughters, Crystal Hall and Frankie Dee Woods, both of Fort Smith; and one son, Scottie Lee Melton of Fort Smith; five sisters, Pat Gilcrease of Van Buren, Loretta Roscoe of Kibler, Linda Person of Fort Smith, Janice Beckham of Fort Smith, and Evelyn Gail Talley of Muskogee, Okla.; two brothers, Roger and Rickey Parks of Kibler. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Veronica Sue Parks; her parents, Homer and Frances Parks; and a brother, Clifford Parks.

She is also survived by five grandchildren, Aubrey Faldon, Avery Hall, Addy Hall, Lennon Nicole Woods, and Trinity Rain Woods.

Services will be held today at 2 p.m. at the Fort Smith Primitive Baptist Church at 2201 S. Houston with burial to follow at Gracelawn Cemetery in Van Buren under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Tony Gillespie, Trine Warner, Jeremy Woods, Jerrod Ricketts, Ryan Burns and Micah Parks.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of her daughter Veronica Sue Parks to the Gregory Kistler Treatment Center, 3304 S. M St., Fort Smith, AR 72903.

Jerry Don Baker

Jerry Don Baker, 42, of Van Buren died Monday, Oct. 11, 2004, in a local hospital.

He was born Nov. 16, 1961, in Oklahoma City.

He was a trim carpenter, a 1980 graduate of Arkoma High School, was a dialysis patient, and a member of the Assembly of God in Roland.

Funeral will be 1 p.m. today at Roland First Assembly of God with burial at Milton Cemetery on Oklahoma 31 west of Bokoshe under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Nelda June Baker of Van Buren; a son, Dustin James Baker of Bennington, Vt.; his parents, Don and Bobbie Baker of Arkoma; and a sister, Dana Jean Henderson, and brother-in-law Charlie Henderson of Fort Smith; nine aunts and six uncles.

Pallbearers will be Russell Wagner, Charlie Henderson, John Onorato, Kevin Williams, Rick Stanford and David Baker.

Mary M. Bone

Mary M. Bone, 47, of Fort Smith died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004, in Fort Smith.

She was an attorney formerly employed by the Shaw Ledbetter Law Firm and she was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her companion, Dan Breitenberg of Fort Smith; one brother, James Lee Bone of Spiro; and one nephew, Jacob Allen Bone of Spiro.

Funeral service will be 3 p.m. Friday at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.

The family will greet friends at Edwards Funeral Home today from 6 to 8 p.m.

Charlie Myers

Charlie Myers, 63, of Van Buren died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004, in a local hospital.

He was a retired welder for the Tri State Fabrication Shop.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Gill Cemetery in Van Buren under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.

He is survived by his wife, Doris; three daughters, Donna Thompson, Debbie Wilkerson and Tracey Myers, all of Van Buren; two sons, Dewayan Myers of Van Buren and Gary Myers of Greenwood; a sister, Carol Mauldin of McCrory; four brothers, Sammy Myers of Oklahoma, Billy and Eddie Myers, both of Louisiana, and Darrel Myers of McCrory; 15 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Brandon Hill, Andy Dye, Charles Rogers Jr., Michael Bowlin, Jerry Thompson and Romeo Alegria.

The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
