David Byars
ALMA — David Eugene Byars, 86, of Alma died Friday, Oct. 8, 1999, at his home. He and his wife owned and operated David E. Byars Clothing Store in Alma for 25 years. He was a member, deacon and treasurer of First Baptist Church. He was a former member of Alma City Council, Alma Lions Club and retired volunteer fireman. He was a 50-year member and past Master of Alma Lodge No. 735 and member and past Patron of New Alma OES. He was an Army veteran of World War II in the Battle of the Bulge.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday in Ocker Funeral Home Chapel of Alma with burial at Alma City Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Eddie Rue Byars; two sisters, Cora Crigler of Fort Smith and Caroline Cate of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; and one brother, G.W. “Chub” Byars of Fort Smith.
Pallbearers will be Blake, Drew, Randall and Joe Dan Byars, Joe D. Byars Jr., David Newman and Dr. Edwin Dooley.
Honorary pallbearers will be Deacons of First Baptist Church of Alma.
The family will visit with friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Edward Jewell
VANDERVOORT — Edward Jewell, 63, of Vandervoort died Friday, Oct. 8, 1999, at his home. He was an Army veteran and a member of Hatfield Masonic Lodge No. 218 and Wickes Masonic Lodge No. 548.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at Vandervoort Methodist Church with burial at Witherspoon Cemetery in Vandervoort under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.
He is survived by his wife, Jerry Ann Jewell; three daughters, Barbara Walker of Cove, Beverly McBee of Vandervoort and Nancy Harrison of Hatfield; one son, Keith of Hatton; two brothers, Leon and Dale, both of Vandervoort; and 10 grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Donnie, Perry, Bill and Dwight Barrett, Hank Sandefur and Don Youngblood.

Glenn O’Neal
Glenn A. O’Neal, 73, of Fort Smith died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2001, in a Fort Smith hospital. He was a World War II and Korean War veteran serving as an air traffic controller in the Navy. He was a past general manager of radio stations KWHN and KMAG, and over the years did extensive news broadcasting and play by play voice for more than 20 years for Southside football and Northside and Westark basketball. O’Neal was past president of the Arkansas Broadcasters Association and was a recipient of the American Advertising Federation Silver Medal Award; he was past board member of the Fort Smith Chamber of Commerce and was active over years in various civic organizations. He was a member of First Baptist Church.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley; a daughter, Daire Jay Jones of Bentonville; a son, Glenn O’Neal of Louisville, Ky.; a sister, Martha A. O’Neal of Oklahoma City; a brother, Gene L. O’Neal of Dallas; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Alan Martin, Gene Robles, Jim Findley, Ken Rawleigh, Marvin Richardson and Carl Swafford.

Lorene Blackwell
PARIS — Lorene “Koprovic” Blackwell, 92, of Paris died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2001, in Paris. She was a homemaker and a member of First Assembly of God in Paris.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in First Assembly of God in Paris with burial at Oakwood Cemetery in Paris under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Paris.
She is survived by two daughters, Gayle Grist of Paris and Carol Woods of Dardanelle; a son, Chester Koprovic of Fort Smith; two sisters, Clara Lewis of Fort Smith and Eve Maddox of Bellflower, Calif.; 18 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Almeda Dunlap
BLUE MOUNTAIN — Almeda Rosa Dunlap, 67, of Blue Mountain died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2001, in Blue Mountain. She was a member of Blue Mountain Assembly of God.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in Roller Funeral Home Chapel in Booneville with burial at Combs Cemetery in Fayetteville.
She is survived by two daughters, Susan Kay Moore of Oroville, Calif., and Wanda June Grisham of Fayetteville; a son, Robert Leslie Dunlap of Fayetteville; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Linda Spencer
OZARK — Linda Sue Spencer, 51, of Ozark died Monday, Aug. 27, 2001, in a Fort Smith hospital. She was born Aug. 31, 1949, in Ozark. She was a homemaker, a grader for Cargill and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Ozark with burial at Belt Cemetery in Ozark.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry; a son, Shawn Spencer of Ozark; five sisters, Bessie Smith of Odessa, Texas, Iva Nowotney of Knoxville, Wanda Durning and Velma Easom, both of Ozark, and Nina Lee of Paris; four brothers, Charlie Waits Jr. of Overland Park, Kan., Billy and Jimmy Waits, both of Ozark, and Mottie Waits of Fort Smith; three halfbrothers, Charles, David and Terry Waits, all of Ozark.
Pallbearers will be Charles Bowen, Joe McClellan, Harold Qualls, Ricky Yates, Ricky Bowman and Harlan Bowles.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Garry Williams
Garry John Williams, 54, of Fort Smith died Monday, Aug. 27, 2001, in his home. He was a fence builder for Ace Fence Co. of Fort Smith.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel of Van Buren with burial at New Cemetery in Mulberry.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; a daughter, Linda Seamon of Van Buren; two sons, Terry Williams of Fort Smith and John Paul Williams of Greenwood; two sisters, Brenda Williams of Van Buren and Linda Freeman of Alma; seven brothers, Larry Williams of Dyer, Darrell and Glen Williams, both of Cedarville, Randy Williams of Rudy, Wendell, Ronnie and Danny Williams, all of Van Buren; and four grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Mason, Gene Cook, Eugene Atwell, Robert and David Freeman, Garland Simmons, Randy Dale Childers and Roy Hicks.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Zadie Dedmon
BOONEVILLE — Zadie C. Dedmon, 82, of Booneville died Monday, Aug. 27, 2001, in a local hospital. She was a Baptist and the widow of John L. Dedmon.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Martin Funeral Home Chapel in Waldron with burial at Pearson Cemetery in Waldron.
She is survived by three daughters, Nettie Scott of Lake Jackson, Texas, Davella Todd of Zephyrhills, Fla., and Frankie Sue Seamans of Magazine; four stepdaughters, Barbara Cannady of Tulsa, Leona Qualls, Linda Olive and Hilda Oliver, all of Heavener; two sons, David Button of Sydney, Texas, and Joe Button of Birmingham, Ala.; a stepson, Eugene Dedmon of Waldron; four sisters, Etta Vaughn, Ada Oliver, Madie Plum and Florence Walker, all of Waldron; a brother, James Wagner of Waldron; 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren.
The body may be viewed 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Cecil Vaught
FAYETTEVILLE — Cecil Vaught of Fayetteville died Monday, Aug. 27, 2001. He was born Nov. 7, 1918, in Mountainburg. He served in the Army in Europe during World War II; he was awarded five bronze stars. He was a farmer, carpenter, salesman, factory clerk and operated a rural milk route. He retired from Elkhart Products in 1981.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Ridgeview Baptist Church with burial at Vaught Cemetery near Mountainburg under the direction of Beard’s Funeral Chapel & Crematory of Fayetteville.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel; two sons, Bob of Tulsa and Clinton of Fayetteville; two sisters, Mary Lee Dexter and Bobbie June Luders; one brother, Bill Vaught of Fayetteville; and three grandchildren; several nieces, nephew and cousins.
The family will visit with friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Charles Thompson
WICKES — Charles Ray Thompson, 56, of Wickes died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2001, in his home. He was an Army veteran, a retired construction worker and a Baptist.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Friday at Kirk Cemetery in Cauthron under the direction of Martin Funeral Home of Waldron.
He is survived by his wife, Sue; two daughters, Cristi Dunn of Mena and Cindy Beauregard of Phoenix; three sons, David Jackson of Kingman, Ariz., Rodney Thompson of Phoenix and Allan Thompson of Cooper, Texas; his mother, Edith Thompson of Waldron; two sisters, Edna Sanford of Greenwood and Joyce Wilson of Deirks; and 10 grandchildren.
The body may be viewed 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Mildred Pauline Davis
Mildred Pauline Davis of Little Rock, widow of Roy E. Davis, died Sunday, Aug. 26, 2001. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by three daughters, Barbara Otwell of Little Rock, Mary Watkins of Springfield, Ark., and Betty Klitz of Benton; two sons, Virgil Fowler of Greenbier and Glynn Davis of Mayflower; 10 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, two sisters, three brothers and a host of other relatives and friends.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Charleston under the direction of Smith Mortuary of Charleston.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Her grandsons will act as honorary pallbearers.

James Alvis Elkins
James Alvis Elkins, 78, of Magazine died Nov. 13, 2004, in Booneville. He was a Magazine High School graduate and served in World War II in the Navy. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a degree in engineering and graduated from Spartan School of Aeronautics. He retired as a federal aviation engineer. He was a past president and legislative officer of NARF. He initiated the development of the Magazine Rural Fire Department and continued to be an active member. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 109 and Old Union Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Old Union Cumberland Presbyterian Church with burial at Old Union Cemetery in Magazine under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Booneville.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Bates Elkins; and three stepsons, Brian Bates of Magazine, Bart Bates of Paris and Barron Bates of Booneville; and a nephew, Mark Elkins.
Pallbearers will be Bart and Barron Bates, Jackie Strickland, Jim Khilling, Bill Staton and R.H. Johnson.
Honorary pallbearers will be J.W. Taylor, J.D. Roberts, Denny Stone, Brian Bates, M.L. Wilkins and Mark Elkins.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, 1811 E. Main St., Booneville.

Leonard W. Buie
Leonard W. Buie, 82, of Fort Smith passed away Friday, Nov. 12, 2004, in a local hospital. He was a Baptist. Leonard was a retired maintenance man from Central Truck Stop and served in the Army during World War II. He is survived by his wife, Mary; two daughters, Janice Smith of Fort Smith and Pattie Cooksey of Greenwood; a son, Thomas Buie Sr. of Fort Smith; two sisters, Esther Marie Brandon of Nebraska and Roberta McQuay of Haskell, Okla.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Thomas Buie Jr., Leonard and Devron Smith, Bill Cooksey Sr., Bill Cooksey Jr. and Larry Jones.
Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith, with local arrangements under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.

Carla Burks
Carla Ann Burks, 42, of Fort Smith died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004, in her home. She was born Oct. 13, 1962, in Newport, R.I. She was a cook.
The body was cremated under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.
She is survived by a daughter, Diana Albertson of Fort Smith; a son, Patrick Ravoira of Odessa, Texas; and two brothers, John Ravoira of McHenry, Miss., and Ted Ravoira of Athens, Ala.

Alma Bandy
Alma Marie Bandy, 71, of Fort Smith died Sunday, Nov. 14, 2004, in a local hospital. She was born Feb. 27, 1933, in Floodwood, Minn. She was a retired waitress and attended Albert Pike Christian Church.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Albert Pike Christian Church with burial at Hope Lutheran Cemetery in Floodwood under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.
She is survived by a daughter, Sharon Adams of Harrison; two sisters, Mildred Crawford of Fort Smith and Thelma Koivisto of Minneapolis; a brother, Ivan Norris of Floodwood; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The family will visit with friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. today a the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Albert Pike Christian Church.
