James Chambers
WAVELAND — James Robert “Thumper” Chambers, 34, of Waveland died Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004, in a Fort Smith hospital.
Memorial service will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Moore’s Chapel in Waveland with burial at Moore’s Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Cornwell Funeral Home of Danville.
He is survived by his parents, Mackie Chambers of Waveland and Arlene Chambers of Moreauville La.; a sister, Amanda McCoy of Waveland; two brothers, Timmy Chambers of Charleston and Robert Chambers of Waveland.

Barbara Busch
Barbara Jean Busch, 76, of Fort Smith died Sunday, Nov. 7, 2004, in Fort Smith. She was born Jan. 31, 1928, in Springfield, Mass. She was a retired retail sales clerk.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Oak Cemetery Pavilion in Fort Smith under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.
She is survived by her husband, Leonard; a daughter, Joanne Shook of Fort Smith; a son, John Smith of Fort Smith; a brother, John O’Donnell of Springfield, Mass.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The will be no public viewing.

John Fulmore
MABELVALE — John Wesley Fulmore, 75, of Mabelvale died Friday, Nov. 5, 2004. He was born July 29, 1929, in Saline County. He served in the Army in the Korean War, retired from Alcoa after 32 years of service, and was a member of First Missionary Baptist Church in Mabelvale where he served as a deacon.
Funeral was held Monday at First Missionary Baptist Church in Mabelvale with burial at Pinecrest Memorial Park under the direction of Griffin Leggett Forest Hills in Alexander.
He is survived by his wife, Sally; three daughters, Belinda Ward of Fort Smith, Doris Harrison and Becky James, both of Alexander; a brother, Sim of Mabelvale; and seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Missionary Baptist Church, 10300 Mabelvale West, Mabelvale, AR 72103.

Melva VanVlack
CHARLESTON — Melva Bullington VanVlack, 95, of Charleston died Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004 in Charleston. She was born April 3, 1909, in Vesta. She was the widow of William VanVlack.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Smith Mortuary Chapel in Charleston with burial at Garden of Memories in Charleston.
She is survived by a sister, Norma Buchanan of Eastaboga, Ala.; and a brother, Baxter Bullington of Tulsa.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Charles Thacker
MENA — Charles B. Thacker, 88, of Mena died Friday, Nov. 5, 2004, in his home. He was born June 9, 1916, in Mena. He graduated from Fort Smith High School, was a World War II Air Corps veteran, and was a manager for the trucking industry and other companies. He was the widower of Pauline Thacker.
A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church. The body was sent for cremation under the direction of Hall Funeral Service of Mena.
He is survived by his wife, Jane; a son, Andy Thacker of Houston; two stepsons, Grant Freeman of Little Rock and Carter Freeman of Houston; a sister, MaryLee Bradley of Sand Springs, Okla.; two grandchildren; and one stepgrandchild.

Orvel Henson
Orvel Henson, 81, of Van Buren died Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004, in a local hospital. He was a retired employee of Allen Canning Co.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at Bolton Cemetery in the Dean Springs community under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
He is survived by a sister, Maudie Mounce of Springdale; and a brother, Earl Henson of Van Buren.

Ralph Roberts, 76, of Roland died Friday, Dec. 10, 2004, in Oklahoma City. He owned R&S Auto Parts and was active in the auto parts and service business for 58 years. He was a member of Bruton Lodge No. 30, past monarch of the Amrita Grotto, a member of the Shrine and Roland Lions Club, and a Navy veteran serving during World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Charlene “Bill” Roberts of the home; two daughters, Leisa Irvin and Tina Sampson of Muldrow; one son, Dwayne Roberts of Muldrow; two sisters, Doris Fletcher and Clarice Chisum, both of Muldrow; five brothers, Melvin Roberts of Fort Smith and Roy, Delmas, Kenny and Earl Roberts, all of Roland; and five grandchildren, Galen Irvin, Daxx Roberts, Rachel Irvin, Drew Roberts and Kyle Sampson. He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Hunter.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in First Baptist Church of Muldrow with burial to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
Pallbearers will be Ben Daniel, Rodney Carter and Tommy, Johnny, Jeff and Kendall Roberts. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Young, Paul Liles, Tom Tally, Bill Wilson, Don Carter, Dean Sampson, Dick Nelson, Tommy Fowler, Marvin Holland, Waylon Jones and the Bruton Lodge No. 30.
The family will greet friends at Edwards Funeral Home on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Bruton Lodge No. 30, Route 2, Box 361, Muldrow OK 74948, or to the charity of one’s choice.

C.L. Sayre
C.L. Sayre, 81, of Fort Smith died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004, at his home. He was born Nov. 5, 1923, in Grenola, Kan. He was a retired employee of Gerber and a veteran hunter safety instructor for 20 years. He was an avid hunter and member of the Arkansas Wildlife Federation and the American Legion. An Army World War II veteran, he earned a Purple Heart, one bronze oak leaf cluster, theater ribbon, four bronze service stars, a World War II victory ribbon and good conduct medal.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Eloise “Sue” of the home; three daughters, Brenda Kobs of Menasha, Wis., Gayla Duffy of Fayetteville and Donna Connelly of Cameron; a brother, Bob Sayre of San Antonio; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be hunter education instructors.
The family will visit with friends today from 5 to 7 p.m. at Lewis Funeral Chapel, 4817 Kelley Highway, Fort Smith.

Horace D. Sandlin
Horace D. Sandlin, 88, of Fort Smith died Dec. 8, 2004, in Fort Smith. He was born on Sept. 8, 1916, in Hartford to Sara Davis and Henry Sandlin. He grew up and farmed in northeastern Oklahoma, met and married Syble Brooks in 1937, and they were happily married for 55 years.
Horace joined the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s and helped build communities and roads in Oklahoma until the war years, and then, as a welder, helped the Navy build war ships in California. Horace was a World War II veteran who returned from the U.S. Army to live as a widely respected resident of Fort Smith since 1945.
As an employee of Armbruster Stageways, he invented a production template for extending cabs of trucks and limousines that was later adapted and developed by Ford Motor Co. After retiring from Bancorp South, Horace established a business, The Hour House, for repairing and refurbishing antique clocks. His “do it right and charge little” work was widely solicited throughout Arkansas and the four surrounding states.
His favorite activities were fishing and taming wild squirrels and a little astrophotography with his son. He will be laid to rest with his wife, Syble, who died on June 18, 1992, during a private burial today at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith, under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
He is survived by his only child, Glenn Sandlin, a space scientist in Washington, D.C.

Eva L. Spearman
Eva L. Spearman, 90, of Greenwood passed away Saturday, Dec. 11, 2004, in Greenwood. She was a homemaker and member of Quinnwood First Baptist Church and the Williams Freewill Baptist Church. Mrs. Spearman was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, M.E. “Bud” Spearman, her parents Fred and Mary (Sanders) Bolinger, a sister, Lena Childress, and five brothers, Clarence, Cecil, Winfrey, Lee Roy and Lloyd “Blue” Bolinger.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the McConnell Funeral Home chapel in Greenwood with interment at Stroud Cemetery.
Survivors include her daughter, Lynda King, and her husband, Roy, of Greenwood; three sons, Jack Spearman and his wife, Pat, of Charleston, W.Va., Jess Spearman and his wife, Joy, and Kenneth Spearman and his wife, Kitty, all of Greenwood; two sisters, Daisy Mae Darling of Antlers, Okla., and Sue Modess McClure of Tenkiller, Okla.; seven grandchildren, Jackie King, Tammy Payne, Cindy Spearman, Jennifer Elkins, Kenneth Spearman Jr., Dorothy Spearman and Susan Stewart; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Stateroom hours for Mrs. Spearman will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will visit with friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

Esta Mae McCubbins
Esta Mae McCubbins, 63, of Magazine was born Sept. 16, 1941, in Paron. She passed Dec. 11, 2004, in her home in Magazine. She was of the Assembly of God faith. She is preceded in death by a son, Danny Paul McCubbins.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Roberts Memorial Chapel with burial at Mountain Grove Cemetery under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home.
She is survived by her husband, Curtis McCubbins of the home; four daughters, Debbie Harbour and her husband Mitch of Booneville, Teresa Hixson and her husband Thomas Hixson of Clarksville, Joy Duvall and husband Mark of Booneville and Penny Mainard and husband Monty Mainard of Magazine; two sons, Tony McCubbins of Magazine and Justin McCubbins of Booneville; three sisters, Rose Lee Miller and Carolyn Colbin, both of Hobbs, N.M., and Glenda Catlett of Booneville; one brother, Ricky Williams of Booneville; 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Mark Duvall, Thomas Hixson, William McConnell, Anthony Smith, Shawn Harbour and Monty Mainard.

Onnie Fultz
COAL HILL — Onnie Fultz Jr., 69, of Coal Hill died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2004, in a local hospital. He was a carpenter, millwright and of the Assembly of God faith.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Roller-Cox Funeral Home Chapel in Clarksville with burial at Hartman Cemetery in Hartman.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth; a daughter, Kathy LeBow of Ozark; a son, Michael Fultz of Coal Hill; a sister, Thelma Lot of Concord, N.C.; a brother, Ernest Fultz of Coal Hill; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Josh, Wes and Matt Fultz, Dean, Carl and Richard Estep, Charles LeBow and Chris Lanphear.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Charlotte Wise
HUNTINGTON — Charlotte Wise, 64, of Huntington died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2004, in Huntington. She was a clerk at the Choctaw Nation Travel Plaza and was retired from Whirlpool after 35 years. She was a member of AIW Union Local 370, AARP and Oak Grove Baptist Church. She was the widow of Danny Wise.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Fentress Mortuary Chapel in Fort Smith.
She is survived by a son, Dennis McCaslin of Fort Smith; her father, Bert Robinett of Van Buren; two sisters, Wanda Winters of Alma and Jeanie Parks of Van Buren; and three grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy Coleman, Randy Baxter, Steve, Gerald, and V.C. Winters, Shane Moore and Danny Meiger.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Gospel Rescue Mission, 201 Drennen St., Van Buren AR 72956.

Jewell Appleton
CHARLESTON — Jewell Appleton, 91, of Charleston died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2004. She was homemaker and the widow of Cecil Appleton.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Roller Funeral Home chapel in Paris with burial at Carpenter Cemetery in Roseville.
She is survived by two daughters, Janice Galbraith of Monticello, Minn., and Mary Oman of St. Michael, Minn.; three sons, Cecil Appleton of New Blaine, Jimmy Appleton of Paris and Billy Appleton of Carbon City; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Robert Doyel
WALDRON — Robert “Bob” Doyel, 69, of Waldron died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2004, in his home. He was a retired service station attendant and jailer. He attended Pilot Prairie Church.
Funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Martin Funeral Home Chapel in Waldron with burial at Square Rock Cemetery in Waldron.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby; two stepdaughters, Sonia Powell of Waldron and Tammie Lux of Ratcliff; two stepsons, Lonnie Mitts of Benton and Darrell Mitts of Waldron; four sisters, Kathy Hope of Booneville, Margaret Finney of Waldron, and Gay Shiflet and Patricia Doyel, both of Fort Smith; three brothers, L.D., Kenny and Wayne Doyel, all of Waldron; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Amos Zimmer, Jerrel Plummer, Larry Brown, John Davidson, Bud Hunt and Ronald Doyel.
The body may be viewed from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the funeral home.
