Ona M. Rupe

Ona M. Rupe, 69, of Fort Smith died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2004, in Fort Smith.

She was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening, canning and, most of all, bird watching.

She is survived by three daughters, Viola Brown of Fort Smith, Karin Elliott of Fort Smith and Master Sgt. Matricia Caldwell of San Antonio; two sisters, Mable Wilkerson of Bentonville and Elsie Davis of Centerton; two brothers, Alvin Pendergraft of Siloam Springs and Jesse R. Pendergraft of Noel, Mo.; two grandchildren, Natalie Oetzel and Kellie Elliott; and five great-grandchildren, Joshua and Sarah Jane Elliott and Patrick, Zachary and Matthew Oetzel.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Horton “Sarge” Rupe.

Funeral service will be Monday, Dec. 13, 2004, at 10 a.m. in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with burial at the U.S. National Cemetery of Fort Smith, all under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Wes Brown, Frank Stevenson, Gregg Oetzel, Wendell Caldwell, Mark Wilkerson, Phil Wilkerson, Mark Pugh and Lee Davis.

The family will greet friends at Edwards Funeral Home on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 1274, Fort Smith, AR 72902, or the American Diabetes. Association, 212 Natural Resource Drive, Little Rock, AR.

Augusta Chaney

CLARKSVILLE — Augusta Dixie Chaney, 70, of Clarksville died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004, in a local hospital.

She was born Dec. 16, 1933, in Harmony.

She graduated from Clarksville High School, attended the College of the Ozarks and was a member of Harmony Presbyterian Church.

Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Antioch Cemetery in Pittsburg, Mo., under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home of Clarksville.

She is survived by a daughter, Janet Matney of Ozark, Mo.; a son, Ronald Greer of Strafford, Mo.; her mother, Berta Houston of Clarksville; two grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren and 1 stepgreat-grandchild.

Myrtle Thompson

Myrtle Thompson, 91, of Fort Smith died Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004, in a local hospital.

She was a member of Wood Memorial Christian Church in Van Buren and a retired accountant and bookkeeper.

Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Gracelawn Cemetery in Van Buren under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.

She is survived by a sister, Ruth Metcalf; and a brother, Jimmy Thompson.

Memorial contributions may be made to Christian Women’s Fellowship of Wood Memorial Christian Church, 921 Broadway St., Van Buren, AR 72956.

Otis Landers

Otis L. Landers, 61, of Van Buren died Friday, Dec. 10, 2004, in a local hospital.

He was a member of Homestead Heights Baptist Church and retired from Van Buren Pipe Co.

Funeral will be 9 a.m. Monday at Gill Cemetery Arbor with burial in Gill Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.

He is survived four daughters, Kristie Hampton of Murphy, Texas, Becky Hodge of Benton, and Laura Williams and Norma Starr, both of Fort Smith; a sister, Gracie Stites of Van Buren; a brother, James Weaver of Alma; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Wade Parr, Danny Ming, Danny Fight, Bill Wright, Guy Morley, James Ames and Stephen Cross.

The family will visit with friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Carol Rundell

LAVACA — Carol Alene Rundell, 63, of Lavaca died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004, at home.

She was born Dec. 31, 1940, in San Bernadina, Calif.

She was a homemaker, a member of Community Baptist Church and the widow of Charles Rundell.

Cremation is under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Lavaca.

She is survived by four daughters, Cathy Dunn of Seattle, Caroly Rundell of San Francisco, Kathy Rundell of Paris and Cindy Rundell of Modesto, Calif.; two sons, Lee Rundell of Charleston and Randy Rundell of Lavaca; a brother, Gary Lee of Ione, Calif.; 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Richard Bahr

MENA — Richard Arnold Bahr, 78, of Mena died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004, in a local hospital. He was born Jan. 24, 1926, in Scottsville, Mich.

He was a World War II Army/Air Corps veteran; worked for General Motors and Fisher Body in Michigan; belonged to the Freewill Baptist Church, the United Auto Workers, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Elks Lodge; and the widower of Barbara Bahr.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. today at First Freewill Baptist Church with burial at Nunley Cemetery under the direction of Hall Funeral Service of Mena.

He is survived by three sons, Richard Bahr of Mena, Daniel Bahr of Flint, Mich., and William Bahr of Ionia, Mich.; four daughters, Susan Beebe of Swartz Creek, Mich., Katrina Bair of Holly, Mich., Marguerite McKee of Reno, Nev., and Rochelle Mullins of Campbell, Mo.; 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Freewill Baptist Church.

Foy Brown Jr.

Foy William Brown Jr., 70, of Fort Smith died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004, in Fort Smith.

He was a member of Oak Cliff Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and choir member.

He was in the Air National Guard and an industrial engineer.

Funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday at Oak Cliff Baptist Church with burial in Oak Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Judy; a daughter, Jennifer Harris of Fort Smith; a son, Patrick Brown of Fort Smith; a sister, Emma Jo Guiffre of Fort Smith; and four grandchildren.

The family will visit with friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Oak Cliff Baptist Church, 3701 Gary, Fort Smith, AR 72903.

Opal Albert

Opal Mae Albert, 85, of Fort Smith died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004, in Fort Smith.

She was a homemaker, a member of the Church of Christ and the widow of Mike Albert.

Funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday at Fentress Mortuary Chapel with burial at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith.

She is survived by two sons, Michael and Anthony Albert, both of Fort Smith; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Dwayne Garrett, Steve McCurdy, Copa Replogle, Costa Skoumbourdis, Ernest Pruitt and Joe Wewers.

The family will visit with friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Reuben Elliott

CECIL — Reuben Elliott, 79, of Cecil died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004, in Ozark.

He was born Aug. 24, 1925, in Belton, Texas.

He was a self-employed land developer and a member of Lighthouse Assembly of God in Ozark.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. today at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Ozark.

A service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Anderson Clayton Funeral Home in Terrell, Texas, with burial at Oaklawn Cemetery in Terrell.

He is survived by his wife, Lois; a daughter, Carolyn Baggett of Rockwall, Texas; two sons, Jerry Elliott of Ozark and Vincent Elliott of Cecil; a sister, Bertha Firdell; a brother, Walter Elliott; 15 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

C.L. Sayre

C.L. Sayre, 81, of Fort Smith died Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004, at home.

He was born Nov. 5, 1923, in Grenola, Kan., was a retired Gerber employee, an Army World War II veteran, a hunter safety instructor and a member of the Arkansas Wildlife Federation.

He was awarded a Purple Heart, a bronze oak leaf cluster and four bronze stars.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort smith under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.

He is survived by his wife Eloise; three daughters, Brenda Kobs of Menasha, Wis., Gayla Duffy of Fayetteville and Donna Connelly of Cameron; a brother, Bob Sayre of San Antonio; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be instructors of hunter education.

The family will visit with friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
