Billy Jones
Billy Ray Jones, 67, of Van Buren died Monday, Jan. 3, 2005, in a local hospital. He was a retired warehouse manager for Ayers Furniture Co., and a veteran of the Army.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Gill Cemetery in Van Buren.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; five daughters, Misty Jones of the home, Melody Mackey of Van Buren, Barbie Langley of Muskogee, Okla., Mary Penny of Kibler, and Becky Brown of Muskogee; five sons, Mike and Donny Jones, both of Cedarville, David Jones of Van Buren, Ronnie Jones of Great Falls, Mont., and Alvis Gregory Jr. of Portland, Maine; two sisters, Velma Hicks and Wilma Bork, both of Fort Smith; a brother, Charles Jones of Lancaster, Calif.; 22 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be members of his family.

Helen Keyes
GREENWOOD — Helen Keyes, 70, of Greenwood died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005, in Greenwood. She was retired from Baldor, a member of Greenwood First Baptist Church and the widow of Pete Keyes.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Greenwood First Baptist Church in Greenwood with burial at Liberty Cemetery in Greenwood under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.
She is survived by a sister, Ruth Walraven of Stover, Mo.; two brothers, Clifton McConnell of Bentonville and Delbert McConnell of Fort Smith;.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie and Jackie Brown, Don Keyes, Patrick and Mark Linam, Mike and Russell McConnell and Jerry Efurd.
The body may be viewed 1 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Dennis Reed
MENA — Dennis Eugene Reed, 69, of Mena died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005, in Mena. He was born March 20, 1935, in Mountain Fork. He was an Army veteran and a Mason.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Beasley-Wood Funeral Home Chapel in Mena with burial at Mountain Fork Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Delta; a son, John Reed of Hot Springs; and two grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Tommy and Larry Floyd, Terry Terrell, Benny Richardson, Kenny Romine and Jimmy Newsom.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Johnie H. “Buck” Smithson
Johnie H. “Buck” Smithson, 79, of Lavaca died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005, in his home. He was born Aug. 26, 1925, in Lavaca. He was a member of Lavaca Methodist Church and an Army veteran of World War II; he was retired from Rheem, a retired farmer and a member of VFW. He was preceded in death by his mother, Inez Smithson, his father, John Smithson; sisters Bessie, Wanda and Rene; and his wife, Evelyn Smithson.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, 2005, at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Lavaca with burial at Oak Valley Cemetery in Fort Smith.
He is survived by a daughter, Nina Mazie and husband John Price of Fort Smith; three sons, Howard Wayne Smithson of Lavaca, Leonard Ray and his wife Irene Smithson of Fort Smith, and Wesley Noel and wife Michele Smithson of Rogers; three sisters, Vivian Pence and Genell Graham, both of Lavaca, and Gwen Britton of Charleston; a brother, Joe and wife Eula Smithson of Lavaca; 15 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be James and Jimmy Dampier, Don Weaver, Dewayne Glidewell, Rayburn Green and Danny Cross.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Edward Mercy Hospice, 5401 Ellsworth Road, Fort Smith, AR 72903.

Audra E. “Pete” Patterson
Audra E. “Pete” Patterson, 86, of Branch died Monday, Jan. 3, 2005, in Fort Smith. She was a member of Cole’s Chapel United Methodist Church and a member for over 50 years of the Home Demonstration Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Patterson; and her brother, Silas Askins.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, at Cole’s Chapel United Methodist Church with burial at Cole’s Chapel Cemetery south of Branch under the direction of Smith Mortuary of Charleston.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Jeanne and Stanley Wells of Charleston; sisters, Beatrice Metcalf and Wanda Weiser, both of Tulsa, sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Bill Benjamin of Kansas City, Kan.; a brother Lee “Sonny” Askins of Tulsa; two grandchildren, Emily and Mason Wells, both of Charleston; a sister-in-law, Madoline Hollibaugh of Tulsa; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Todd and Peggy Patterson of Ratcliff; and brother-in-law, Jimmy Patterson of Ratcliff.
Pallbearers will be nephews.
The family will visit with friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Cole’s Chapel United Methodist Church or the Cole’s Chapel Cemetery Fund.

Winnie Recher
CLEARWATER, Fla. — Winnie Alice Recher, 93, of Clearwater, Fla., formerly of Mena, died Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, in Florida. She was born March 31, 1911, in Pope Township, Ill. She was a housekeeper and of the Nazarene faith.
Funeral was held Monday at Beasley-Wood Funeral Home Chapel in Mena with burial at Pinecrest Memorial Park.
She is survived by a daughter, Rose Kibitlewski of Clearwater, Fla.; a son, Joe Recher of Denham Springs, La.; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Aubery Creel
MENA — Aubery Franklin Creel, 82, of Mena died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005, in a Fort Smith hospital. He was born Nov. 27, 1922, in Blythesville. He owned and operated Creel Siding in Peoria, Ill., and was the widower of Dorothy Creel.
Funeral was held Tuesday at Hall Funeral Service Memorial Chapel in Mena with burial at Six Mile Cemetery in Hatfield.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly; a daughter, Tamara Gonzalez of Springbay, Ill.; three sons, Donald of Arlington, Ky., and Dennis and Tracy, both of Hatfield; a stepdaughter, Cheryl Falleur of Springfield, Ore.; a stepson, John Hicks of Clinton, Ky.; two sisters, Laverne Schoolfield of Mena and Verse Wright of Marshall; two brothers, Robert Rea of Hatfield and Alvis Creel of Peoria, Ill.; seven grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.
Pallbearers were his grandsons, Jerrod, Scott and Mark Creel, Kenny Howell, Darron and Kenny Mitchell.

Tommie Word
Tommie Jean Word, 53, of Fort Smith died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005, in her home. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and a service provider.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Liberty Cemetery in Greenwood.
She is survived by three daughters, Tammy Cheely and Tiffany Hart, both of Fort Smith, and Taffy Benthall of Colorado; and two grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Laston, Pops, Keenan and Shannon Winters, Shawn Imhoof and Jeff McEntire.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Dennis Hobbs
Dennis Hobbs, 60, of Fort Smith died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005, in a Fort Smith hospital. He attended Rye Hill Baptist Church and was a chain hand in the oil field.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Kitten; two daughters, Babette Olsen and Debra Hobbs, both of Fort Smith; a son, Jim Burson of Santa Maria, Calif.; two sisters, Rita Bell of Hartman and Jeri Bickers of Las Vegas; two brothers, Danny Schmitt of Las Vegas and Ronny Schmitt of San Luis Obispo, Calif.; and nine grandchildren.

Ray Perkins
MANSFIELD — Ray Felle Perkins, 85, of Mansfield died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005, in a local hospital. He was retired from FMC Corp. and a veteran of World War II; he was a member of Northside Baptist Church in Tulsa and a private pilot, and taught ground school at Modesto Junior College in Modesto, Calif.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Pleasant Grove No. 2 Baptist Church with burial at Pleasant Grove Cemetery near Abbott under the direction of Martin Funeral Home of Mansfield.
He survived by his wife, Sue; a daughter, Lynda Alatorre of Texarkana; a son, Larry Perkins of Phoenix; a stepdaughter, Marsha McCurter of Waldron; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be John Gallimore, Marion Mathis, Farris and Mike Blythe, Tim MCurter and Danny Heydenrich. Honorary pallbearers will include the men of Mansfield Senior Citizens Center.
The body may be viewed 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mansfield Senior Citizens Center.

Harper Smither
MULBERRY — William Harper Smither, 80, of Mulberry died Monday, Jan. 3, 2005, in Mulberry. He was born July 22, 1924, in Ozark. He was retired from Arkansas Highway Department, an Air Corps veteran of World War II, a member of Masonic Lodge No. 487, and the widower of Emma Smither and Fern Smither.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Mulberry with burial at Hight Cemetery east of Mulberry.
He is survived by two sons, Ricky Smither of Stigler and Ronnie Accord of Mulberry; four sisters, Opal Medlock, Inez Parrish, Armina Agee and Josephine Whitlock, all of Ozark; a brother, Richard Smither of Ozark; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be John Hunter, John Crockett, Dewayne Scowden, Kenney and Davy Edwards and Barry James.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home Mulberry chapel.

Mildred Simmons
DALLAS — Mildred Justice Simmons, 62, of Dallas, formerly of Fort Smith, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005, in her home. She was a graduate of Fort Smith High School and of the Catholic faith.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Sacred Hearts Cemetery in Rowlett, Texas, under the direction of Restland Funeral Home of Dallas.
She is survived by a daughter, Angelina Simmons of the home; two sisters, Dorothy Miller of Rogers and Henrietta Stewart of Van Buren; and one grandchild.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Billy Smith
OZARK — Billy Lee Smith, 63, of Ozark died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005, in Ozark. He was born May 5, 1941, in Ozark. He was retired from General Mills and attended the Assembly of God; he was a member of the Eagles in Altus, the Shriners in Kansas City, Mo., and was a Mason.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Shaffer Funeral Home Chapel in Ozark with burial at Highland Cemetery in Ozark.
He is survived by a son, Billy G. Smith; two sisters, Peggy Thompson of Ozark and Shirley Kimbrell of Lee Summitt, Mo.; and a brother, Bobby Hutchison of Ozark.
Pallbearers will be David Berry, Mike Jenkins, Bill Williams, Gerald Thomas, Jason Brown, Wallace Alston, Dwight Robison and Randy Medford.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

David Allen
David F. Allen, 55, of Fort Smith died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005, in a local hospital. He was born Oct. 24, 1949, in Fort Smith. He was president of Alfa Transformer, a member of Goddard United Methodist Church, a former member of Van Buren Bass Club, and a Babe Ruth and American Legion baseball coach; he played baseball for West-Ark and OU, and was a minor league baseball pitcher and pitching coach for Kerwin’s.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Goddard United Methodist Church with burial at Oak Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; a daughter, Kelly Allen of Boston; his mother, Doris Allen of Fort Smith; two sisters, Jackie Napier and Becky Mallard, both of Fort Smith; and a brother, Robert Allen of Pocola.
The body may be viewed 1 to 8:30 p.m. today and 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The family will visit with friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Goddard United Methodist Church or Sebastian County Humane Society.
