Joan “Granny” Stephenson
Joan “Granny” Stephenson, 73, of Alma died Thursday, March 17, 2005, in a local hospital. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to her family. She was a retired certified nursing assistant for Sparks Regional Medical Center and attended Homestead Heights Baptist Church in Fort Smith.
She is survived by her four daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Curtis Henley of Sayre, Okla., Jessie and Bill Buchalla of Alma, Mildred and Troy Henley of Alma, and Beatrice and James Anders of Alma; three sons, Jerry Reiner of Alma, James Arterberry of Alma, and Clifford Arterberry of Alma; 18 grandchildren; and 41 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday, March 21, 2005, at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Gracelawn Cemetery in Van Buren.
Pallbearers will be Christopher Anders, Terry Carson, Michael Carson, Jerry Reiner, James and Clifford Arterberry.

Frances Kelone
Frances Kelone, 85, of Barling died Wednesday, March 16, 2005, in Barling. She was a homemaker, a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel for 65 years and a member of Our Lady of Fatima in Benton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Kelone.
Rosary will be 9:30 a.m. today at McCauley Convent Chapel in Barling with Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Little Rock under the direction of Fentress Mortuary of Fort Smith.
She is survived by four daughters, Reba Venezia of Foster City, Calif., Sister Teresa Kelone RSM of Hot Springs, Jane Conard and husband Loyal of Clarksville, Tenn., and Marilyn Ellis and husband Leland of Mena; a sister, Dorothy Gale of Oakland, Calif.; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Memorial contributions may be made to McCauley Convent, 1300 Strozier Lane, Barling, AR 72923.

Otha Johnson
Otha Lee “Osie” Johnson, 54, of Fort Smith died Thursday, March 10, 2005, in a local hospital. He was a cook and a veteran of the Army.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Sweet Home Baptist Church in Dallas with burial at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery in Dallas under the direction of Evergreen Memorial Funeral Home of Dallas. Obituary submitted by Rowell-Parish Mortuary of Fort Smith.
He is survived by a daughter, Tony Green of Dallas; his mother, Carrie Johnson of Dallas; three brothers, the Rev. Val Johnson, Raymond Johnson and Tyrone Ward, all of Dallas; and three grandchildren.

Don Hamilton
Don H. Hamilton, 71, of Fort Smith died Friday, March 18, 2005, in Fort Smith. He was born Oct. 23, 1933, in Ulysess, Neb. He was of the Christian faith, a member of Rising Sun Lodge No. 8 of Fort Scott, Kan., for 47 years and a Mason.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at Woodlawn Chapel with burial at Woodlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
He is survived by his wife, Karen; a daughter, Jolene Whittington of Greenwood; two sons, Richard and Ed Hamilton, both of Fort Smith; a brother, C.J. Hamilton of Kansas; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The family will visit with friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Betty Jasper
Betty J. Jasper, 84, of Fort Smith died Wednesday, March 16, 2005, in Little Rock. She was a homemaker, a graduate of Northside High School, a member of First Lutheran Church in Fort Smith, and the widow of Allen Jasper.
Funeral will be noon Monday at First Lutheran Church in Fort Smith with burial at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Fentress Mortuary of Fort Smith.
She is survived by a daughter, Tina Emerson of Vilonia; a son, Robert Jasper of Fort Smith; and two grandchildren.
The family will visit with friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Lutheran Church, 419 N. 12th St., Fort Smith, AR 72901.

Omelia Walker
PRAIRIE VIEW — Omelia Walker, 92, of Prairie View died Wednesday, March 16, 2005, in Dallas. She was a retired schoolteacher, a member of Prairie View United Methodist Church and Arkansas Retired Teachers Association, a member and former secretary of Prairie View Extension Homemakers Club, and the widow of John Walker.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at Prairie View United Methodist Church with burial at Stoney Point Cemetery in Scranton under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Paris.
She is survived by a son, Harold Walker of Addison, Texas; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Jesse Kutait, Tony Drake, Bruce Housley, Gary Rhinehart, John Deichmann and Steven Moser.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Pearl Baker
HARTFORD — Pearl Baker, 95, of Hartford died Thursday, March 17, 2005, in a Fort Smith hospital. She was a homemaker, a member of Jones Memorial United Methodist Church in Hartford and the widow of Truman Baker.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. today at Hartford Memorial Park in Hartford under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Hartford.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary Ledbetter of Fort Smith and Diana Roberts of Hartford; two sons, Buster Baker of the home and Jerry Baker of Waldron; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Freddie Jones
LAVACA — Freddie G. Jones, 60, of Lavaca died Thursday, March 17, 2005.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Lavaca Baptist Church with burial at Earl Ladd Cemetery in Danville under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Booneville.
The family will visit with friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

James Gibson
HACKETT — James F. Gibson, 95, of Hackett died Thursday, March 17, 2005, in a Fort Smith hospital. He was retired from Gordon Transportation, a member and founder of Memorial Baptist Church in Hackett, a 60-year member of Amity Lodge No. 267 in Hackett and the widower of Blindina Gibson.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at Memorial Baptist Church in Hackett with burial Mountain View Cemetery in Hackett under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.
He is survived by four sisters, Jessie Pittman of Hackett, Vera Mullis of Kentucky, Lillie Robins and Pauline Jones, both of California; a brother, Clifton Gibson of Hackett; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jonathan Mathis, Fred Hearron, Jack and Lance Stafford, Dale Johnson and Wyatt Maness.
The body may be viewed 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, where the family will visit with friends from 1 to 3 p.m.

William Blackburn
JONESBORO — William H. “Bill” Blackburn, 87, of Jonesboro, formerly of Fort Smith, died Thursday, March 17, 2005. He was born Oct. 24, 1917, in Fort Smith. He was a retired business owner, owned Blackburn Firestone Tire Store in Jonesboro, worked for Yantis-Harper Tire Store in Fort Smith, was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, attended First Baptist Church in Jonesboro, was a former member of Jonesboro Lions Club, and was a founding member of Arkansas Independent Tire Dealers Association.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at Langford-Bookout Funeral Home Chapel in Jonesboro with burial at Holy Cross Cemetery in Jonesboro.
He is survived by his wife, Blanche; a daughter, Diana Black of Paducah, Ky.; two sons, Ron Blackburn of Jonesboro and Donald Blackburn of Mountain Home; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jeffery and Gregory Black, Frank Stringer, Gene Bosche, Bobby Puryear and Charles Davis.
The family will visit with friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Alma Barrett
Alma Lou Meade Barrett, 75, of Fort Smith died Tuesday, March 15, 2005, in Fort Smith. She was a military clerk in the Navy.
Graveside service will be noon Tuesday at U.S. National Cemetery under the direction of Fentress Mortuary of Fort Smith.
She is survived by two daughters, Suzanne Meade of Van Buren and Sharon Meade of California; and a son, Steven Martin of Washington.

Lemuel Marion Landrum
Lemuel Marion Landrum, 82, of Fort Smith died Wednesday, March 16, 2005, in Fort Smith. He was a retired employee of Belle Point Beverages and a member of Evangel Temple.
He is survived by a niece, Angel Landrum of Austin, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Felton William Landrum; and his brother, Felton Landrum.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. today at Roselawn Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Freddie G. Jones
Freddie G. Jones, 60, of Lavaca died Thursday, March 17, 2005. He was born Aug. 28, 1944 at Heth. He was employed by ARKLA/Center Point for 33 years as a pipeline supervisor. He was also employed by the R & R Construction Co. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest B. and Sadie Cupp Jones; six sisters, Grace McGrary, Ernestine McCollum, Birdie Green, Molly Jones, Ada Sipes, Sadie Meyer; and a brother, Ernest B. Jones Jr.
Service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Lavaca Baptist Church with burial at Earl Ladd Cemetery in Danville under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Booneville.
He is survived by his wife, Carolene D. Jones of the home; his children, Freddie G. Jones Jr. and Sherri L. Jones of Birta, Johnny and Nancy Jones of Danville, Teresa Cody of Ola, Pattie and Karl Bernens of Bixby, Okla., Tammie and Eddy Garvin of Stewart, Okla., Lee and Mike Barber of Lavaca and Becca and Justin Scott of Sherwood; three sisters, Lucille James of Danville, Ruthie and Jake James of Danville and Rosa White of Dardanelle; one brother, Paul Green of Havana; one special brother-in-law, Clyde Green of Havana; 19 grandchildren; one great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers: Russell Roger, Bud Roger, Mike Sprayberry, Joe Smithson, Jack Stuart, Rayburn Green.
Honorary pallbearers: Lavaca Sunday school class.
Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. today at Lavaca Baptist Church.

Pauline Overton
BARLING — Pauline Overton, 94, of McAuley Convent in Barling died Thursday, March 17, 2005, in Barling. She was born April 23, 1910 in North Little Rock. She was a homemaker and the widow of Andrew Overton.
Rosary will be 10 a.m. today at McAuley Convent with funeral Mass at 11 a.m. and burial at Calvary Cemetery in Little Rock under the direction of Fentress Mortuary.
She is survived by one son, John Overton of Sun City, Calif.; and two sisters, Francis and Sister Jovita Zarnoski, both of Barling.
