Phyllis Jones
Phyllis K. Jones, 70, of Fort Smith died Monday, March 7, 2005, in Fort Smith. She was a member of Bethlehem Free Will Baptist Church in Van Buren and the widow of William Jones Jr.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. today at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Forest Park Cemetery.
She is survived by her daughter, Pam Wofford of Fort Smith; one son, Eugene Jones of Fort Smith; three sisters, Lola Siu of Anaheim, Calif., Velma Smith of Fort Smith, and Barbara Beaver of Fort Smith; and three grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Robert and Tim Wofford, Jeff Jones, Austin Pate, Mark Scharf and Monte Littlejohn.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 212 Natural Resource Drive, Little Rock, AR 72205.

Nancy Conrad
LONOKE — Nancy Louise Mitchell Britt Conrad of Lonoke died Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at home. She was born July 16, 1923, in Fort Smith. She attended the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, studied art at Arkansas State University-Beebe, and was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Lonoke.
A celebration of life will be 10 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church in Lonoke with a committal service at 3:30 p.m. at Forest Park Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Boyd Funeral Home of Lonoke.
She is survived by her children, Andrea Schafer and Nancy McCurmont of Lonoke, Maurice Britt III of Royal; stepdaughters, Becky Chittenden and Charie Conrad of Springfield, Mo.; a sister, Jeanne Baker of Fort Smith; several grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and her former husband, Ray Conrad of Hot Springs.
The family will visit with friends today until 7 p.m. at the home of Andrea Schafer, 315 W. Holly in Lonoke.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church.

Margaret Riley
MENA — Margaret Frances Riley, 90, of Mena died Wednesday, March 9, 2005, in Mena. She was born March 9, 1915, in Columbia County. She was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Beasley-Wood Funeral Home Chapel in Mena with burial at Pinecrest Memorial Park.
She is survived by two daughters, Kay Mannon of Mena and Betty DeWeese of Marvel; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Burl Penson
KIBLER — Burl Penson, 67, of Kibler died Wednesday, March 9, 2005, in his home. He was a retired pressman for Consolidated Printing, a member of Kibler Baptist Church and a member of the Army Reserves.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday at Kibler Baptist Church with burial at Gill Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanette; a daughter, Michele Vaught of Kibler; two brothers, Floyd Penson of Alma and Don Penson of Van Buren.
Pallbearers will be Leo McKee, Ronnie Shrum, Guy Spradley, Darrell Bailey, Charles Montgomery and Bud Akins.
The family will visit with friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Johnnie Daniels
Johnnie Faye Daniels, 69, of Fort Smith died Tuesday, March 8, 2005, in a local hospital. She was born Aug. 9, 1935, in Dalton, Ga. She was a former licensed practical nurse for Sparks Regional Medical Center, a member of First Christian Church and a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Christian Church with a private family burial at U.S. National Cemetery under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel of Fort Smith.
She is survived by her husband, Richard; a daughter, Cindy Rapier of Fort Smith; a son, Jeff Daniels of Fort Smith; two sisters, Jean Grant of Florida and Barbara Holland of Warner Robbins, Ga.; two brothers, C.O. Grant of San Francisco and Jerry Grant of South Carolina.
The body may be viewed from 2 to 8 p.m. today only.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church, 3600 Free Ferry Road, Fort Smith, AR 72903.

Clara Honea
Clara Childers Honea, 84, of Fort Smith died Wednesday, March 9, 2005, in Fort Smith. She was born May 11, 1920, in Sequoyah County. She was a homemaker, a Baptist, and the widow of Robert Childers.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Gans Cemetery in Gans under the direction of Agent Funeral Home of Sallisaw.
She is survived by two daughters, Emman Leggett of Poteau and Jewell Amstutz of California; a son, Bill Childers of Cameron; a stepdaughter, Eva Mae of Washington; a stepson, Jimmy Childers of St. Louis; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
The body may be viewed 1 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Marietta Pearson
LAVACA — Marietta M. Pearson, 62, of Lavaca died Tuesday, March 8, 2005, in Fort Smith. She was born July 16, 1942, in Newburgh, Ind. She was a secretary for Baldor Electric.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Garden of Memories in Charleston under the direction of Smith Mortuary of Charleston.
She is survived by her husband, Edward; a daughter, Terri Crabtree of Lavaca; a son, Breck Pearson of Fort Smith; and two grandchildren.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Claudia Arney
Claudia LaNere Arney, 60, of Fort Smith died Tuesday, March 8, 2005, in a local hospital. She was a Baptist and a tutor.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Putman Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith. The body will be cremated.
She is survived by her husband, Gerald; a daughter, Crissy Leach of Greenwood; a son, Gerald Arney Jr. of Fort Smith; a stepdaughter, Pam Strickland of Joplin, Mo.; three sisters, Louise Watkins of Mulberry, Charlotte Brassfield of Texas, and Carrean Klungle of West Virginia; a brother, Steve Gutierrez of Kellyville, Okla.; and nine grandchildren.
The body may be viewed from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Nancy Lee Udey
Nancy Lee Udey, 58, of Van Buren died Sunday, March 13, 2005, at home. She was a homemaker, a resident of Van Buren since 1970, a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Fort Smith, a member of the Van Buren Literacy Council and a former nurse’s aide. She was preceded in death by both parents, Robert and Jennie Bfoncheck Going.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Gracelawn Cemetery Arbor with burial at Gracelawn Cemetery in Van Buren under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
She is survived by her husband, Larry Udey of the home; a daughter, Andrea Udey of the home; a son, Warren Udey of the home; a sister, Mary Ann Seabolt of Rudy; and a brother, Robert Going of Wooster, Mass.
Corine Butler, 84, of Paris died Saturday, March 12, 2005, in Paris of natural causes. She was a retired Wal-Mart associate and a member of First Baptist Church of Paris. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Butler; her twin sister, Muriel Lorene Whitman; and her parents, James and Fannie Jones Walker.
Graveside memorial service will be 10 a.m. Friday, March 18, 2005, with burial of cremains at Oakwood Cemetery in Paris under the direction of Roller Funeral Home of Paris.
She is survived by three daughters, Judy Fitzjurls of Paris, Marvene Low of Mulvane, Kan., and Laurene Butler of Subiaco; a son, James Charles Butler of Little Rock; a brother, John Raymond Walker of California; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Larry D. French
Larry D. French, 53, of Fort Smith passed away Saturday, March 12, 2005, in a local hospital. He was a setup machinist for Rheem Air Conditioning Division. He attended Grand Avenue Baptist Church. He was a member of the United Steel Workers and of the Fort Smith Bowling Association and a former Fort Smith Bowler of the Year.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. today at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Roselawn Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
He is survived by his wife, Gale; one daughter, Marilee French; two sons, John Martin of Fort Smith and Charles Brady French of the home; his father, Bill French of Fort Smith; one sister, Robbie Lovell of Spiro; and one brother, Scott French of Fort Smith.
Pallbearers will be Mike, Matthew and Michael Whitman, Bill Mason, Herman Jarrett and Kenny James.

Bertha Scott
CLARKSVILLE — Bertha Asche Scott, 87, of Clarksville died Saturday, March 12, 2005, in her home. She was a homemaker and the widow of Verlin Bierbrodt and Samuel Scott.
Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Roller-Cox Funeral Home in Clarksville. Burial will be private.
She is survived by two sons, Thomas Bierbrodt of Chicago and David Bierbrodt of Arma, Kan.; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Mary Kirkpatrick
Mary Beth Kirkpatrick, 84, of Fort Smith died Saturday, March 12, 2005. She was born Dec. 29, 1920, in Greenwood. She was a retired medical transcriptionist for The Eye Group, a member of First United Methodist Church and the Aldersgate Sunday school class, was active in the PTA of Fort Smith Public Schools, and was past president of Rogers Elementary PTA, Darby Junior High School PTA and the PTA City Council.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. today at Roebuck Chapel with private family burial at the U.S. National Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
She is survived by her husband, Fred; two daughters, Beth Janes of Fort Smith and Lynn Vigneault of Little Rock; a son, Fred Kirkpatrick of Harrison; a brother, Clifford Bell of Fort Smith; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Memorials contributions may be sent to the charity of donor’s choice.

Lillian Mayfield
Lillian B. Mayfield, 86, of Fort Smith died Saturday, March 12, 2005, in a Fort Smith hospital. She was born Nov. 22, 1918, in Cecil. She was a nurse, a member of Church of Christ in Fort Smith and the widow of William Mayfield.
Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Houston Cemetery south of Altus under the direction of Smith Mortuary of Charleston.
She is survived by four daughters, Earlene Becker of Alma, Mary Kerr of Barling, Sonya Duke of Hemphill, Texas, and Peggy Webb of Winterset, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Ervin Adkins
Ervin Christopher Adkins, 76, of Van Buren died Saturday, March 12, 2005, in local hospital. He was retired from Garrison Furniture, an Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of First Church of the Nazarene in Van Buren.
Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Gill Cemetery Arbor in Van Buren under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
He is survived by a sister, Margie Johnson of Van Buren; six brothers, Charles Adkins Jr. and Benny Adkins, both of Van Buren, Donald Adkins of Spiro, Jim Adkins of Broken Arrow, Okla., Eddie Adkins of Natural Dam, and Bill Adkins of Fort Smith.
