Margaret Bobo Singer

Margaret Bobo Singer, age 81 of Little Rock died Tuesday, August 14, 2001. She was born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas graduating Valedictorian from Watson Chapel High School. She was also a graduate of Judkins Business College in Pine Bluff. Even though she contracted polio at the age of 5 Margaret became an inspiration to those around her not allowing her disability to deter her desire to work and enjoy life. In 1941 she moved to Washington, D.C. where she worked for the Federal Government returning in 1943 to Pine Bluff where she worked at the Pine Bluff Arsenal. Margaret was married in 1949 to Luther Eugene Singer moving to Aurora, Illinois until retirement when they relocated to Fairfield Bay in 1977. Luther died in 1990. A lifelong Methodist and at the time of her death a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Little Rock.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law Linda Singer of Conway, the wife of Margaret's son Lewis David Singer, who died in 2000, her sister Anne Bobo Vinson of Little Rock, 4 grandchildren, Ryan Joseph, Matthew David, Lindsay Anne and Andrew Paul Singer all of Conway. She is also predeceased by her other son Larry Eugene Singer who died at the age of 5.

There will be a private graveside service Thursday at Olmstead Cemetery in Fairfield Bay, followed by a memorial service at 3 P.M. Thursday at St. Paul United Methodist Church officiated by Reverend Don Nolley. The grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Following the service there will be a visitation with the family at the church.

In lieu of flowers memorials should be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church Stained Glass Window Fund.

Arrangements are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home.

Bettye L. Smith

Mrs. Bettye L. Smith, 105, of Little Rock died Sunday, April 22, 2001. She was born in Kansas City, MO to William I. and Anna Welch Pitcher and the widow of Willard E. Smith who preceded her in death in 1954. In 1925 she joined the First Church of Christ Scientist in Little Rock.

She is survived by a niece, Bettye Johnson and her husband Tom of Little Rock.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at Roselawn Memorial Park.

Arrangements are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home.

Jerry Southerland

Jerry Southerland, 52, of Little Rock died Tuesday, April 17, 2001. He was born in Judsonia, AR to Loy and Ruby Salmon Southerland. He was a graduate of Eastern Illinois University . Jerry loved running and camping and being out doors.

He is survived by his wife of 16 years Barbara Young Southerland, his mother, Ruby Southerland of Conway, three brothers, Dale Southerland and his wife Joanne of Leavenworth, KS, Danny Southerland and his wife Barbara of Heber Springs, Roger Southerland and his wife Paula of Jacksonville, FL and two sisters, Carol Bell and Kathy Whitehurst both of Conway, numerous other relatives and lots of friends.

There will be a visitation from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Ruebel Funeral Home followed by a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Friday at the Ruebel Chapel.

Memorials may be made to C.A.R.E. or the Humane Society of Pulaski Co. 14600 Col Glenn Rd. Little Rock, 72210.

Arrangements are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home.

Nancy Ann Ponder Squire

Nancy Ann Ponder Squire, of Little Rock, departed this life on May 7, 2001. She persevered courageously through a long battle with cancer. Born November 17, 1919 to the late Laura Dover Musick Ponder and the late Ezra Kinzie Ponder, Sr. of Donaphan, Missouri, she was soon joined by her two brothers, the late John Dover Ponder, and Ezra Kinzie Ponder, Jr. of West Warrick Rhode Island who survives. Her early education was in the Donaphan, Missouri elementary schools, and she graduated from Sikeston, Missouri High School. Nancy Ann Graduated from Southwest Missouri University with a B.S.E. degree. She was a member of Sorosis Literary Society. She did graduate work in education at Quincy College, Quincy, Illinois and at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, Arkansas. She began teaching in the Piedmont, Missouri public schools in 1939. Her teaching career ended in retirement in 1988. She was honored this last winter by the City of Fort Smith as one of its Spirit of the Frontier honorees for 2000, a tribute to her long and fruitful teaching career.

Her husband Arthur Edwin Squire, Sr. precedes her in death. They celebrated 51 years of marriage. She is survived by her children, Dr. Arthur E. Squire and wife Nan of Little Rock, and Mr. Robert M. Squire and wife Sharon of Enid, Oklahoma. Her grandchildren include Laura Eugenia Squire, Sarah Clarke Squire, Anna Weston Squire, Melissa Ann, and Robert Justin Squire. Nancy Ann was baptized at age 14 and was a long time member of First Presbyterian Church, Fort Smith.

As her final illness brought her to live close to her family in Little Rock, she accompanied her children and grandchildren to Trinity Episcopal Cathedral where her funeral service will be held Thursday, May 10th, at 10:00 A.M. officiated by The Very Reverend Henry Hudson, with interment to follow at Mount Holly Cemetery, Little Rock. She asks that memorials be made to the Cathedral Concerts at Trinity Episcopal Parish, 17th and Spring Streets, Little Rock, Arkansas, or the Music Fund, First Presbyterian Church, Fort Smith, Arkansas.

Barbara Morris Stringer

Barbara Morris Stringer, 71, of Little Rock, died Tuesday, February 6, 2001.She was born in Conway, AR the daughter of C.C. and Marion Freeman Morris. She was a graduate of Conway High School and has kept close friendships with those who graduated with her. She married Randy Stringer in 1974 and she loved to travel and support her Razorbacks. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. Barbara is survived by her husband, three sons, Bruce M. Basham and his wife Debonney of Denver, CO, Keith R. Basham of Little Rock, Scott W. Basham of San Ramon, CA, one brother, Michael Morris, Conway, AR, one sister, Marilyn Jacks, Rapid City, SD and four grandchildren.

A private graveside service will be held prior to a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Ruebel Funeral Home Chapel. Memorials may be made to Habitat for Humanity, 800 S. Scott St. Little Rock, 72201, Immanuel Baptist Church or charity of choice

Arrangements are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home.

William Frank Stroud

Services for William Frank Stroud, age 88, of Hot Springs, will be held Thursday at 11 A.M. at Little Rock National Cemetery.

He is survived by a daughter, Frankie Coulter, Farmington, Utah, brothers J.T. Crainer, Winnie, Texas, Rayford Stroud, Honey Grove, Texas, sister Billie Jo Hawkins of Paris, Texas.

Arrangements are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home.

Doris Marie Tabor

Doris Marie Tabor, age 86, of Little Rock, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, May 02, 2001. Doris was born in Little Rock, January 1, 1915 as Doris Marie Adams. In 1935 she married Edward Tabor and together they had three children. Doris graduated from Little Rock High Central High School in 1932. After marrying in 1935 Doris spent most of her married life being involved with her children's activities. In 1967 she began working at Ann's Candle Shop as a bridal consultant and floral designer. She later became the bridal consultant at M.M. Cohn Department Store until her retirement. She loved her work and always added a loving touch to the weddings she was involved with.

She and her husband were members of Oak Forrest United Methodist Church where Doris sang in the choir and worked with the youth. She was also a member of the Pinnochio Rose Garden Club and later the Briarwood Garden Club. Besides her parents, brothers and sister, she is preceded in death by her husband and one granddaughter Melanie Carol Moss. She is also survived by daughter Judy Moss and husband Joe of Benton, Arkansas, Ron Tabor and wife Sharon of Little Rock, Carol Garrison and husband Don of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, 6 grandchildren Marc Moss, Laura Tabor Stokes, Scott Tabor, Susan Tabor Brightop, Sean Garrison, and Brian Garrison, 4 great-grandchildren Madeline Tabor, Scott Tabor, Jr., Andrew Brightop, and Laura Lee Moss. Other survivors include three sister-in-laws, Ann Adams of Little Rock, Sylvia Haack of Lafayette, Louisiana, and Gayle Adams of Apopka, Florida. Honorary pallbearers will be The Tuesday Morning Prayer Group.

There will be a visitation today, Thursday from 5 to 7 P.M. at Ruebel Funeral Home, followed Friday with a funeral service at 1 P.M. at Oak Forrest United Methodist Church officiated by Reverend Jim Foster. Burial will follow at Forest Hills Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Oak Forest United Methodist Church and The Arkansas Heart Association. The family will receive friends at 42 Tallyho Lane, Little Rock.

Corrine Uptegrove Tankersley

Corrine Uptegrove Tankersley, 87, of Little Rock died Wednesday, July 25, 2001. She was born in Ashley County, AR the daughter of Oscar and Jewell Tully Uptegrove. She was married to Grover Tankersley who predeceased her. Mrs. Tankersley was retired from the State Hospital as a licensed psychiatric technician and a member of Park Place Baptist Church.

She is survived by one son, Kenneth Yelvington and his wife, Shirley of Shannon Hills, and two daughters, Dorothy Harlan of Little Rock and Jewell Yelvington of North Little Rock., eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren and one daughter-in-law, Betty Yelvington of Fort Smith. She was also predeceased by a son, Raymond Yelvington and a brother, William Ervin Uptegrove.

There will be a visitation from 6-8:00 pm Friday at the Ruebel Funeral Home followed by a funeral service at Park Place Baptist Church at 1:00 p.m. Saturday officiated by Rev. Ed Stevenson with burial to follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park.

Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to Park Place Baptist Church, 5630 Mabelvale Pike, Little Rock, 72209.

Elva Taylor

Elva Taylor, of Washington, D.C. since 1933, died September 2, 2001, at the Southern Maryland Hospital Center, Clinton, Maryland. She was born in Fox, Arkansas May 19, 1912, and was a career federal employee serving at the Atomic Energy Commission, the Department of Agriculture, and Navy, the Executive Office of the President's Office of Emergency Management, where she received the agency's citation for her superior qualities of resourcefulness, judgment, and dependability over an extended period in the performance of her duties in the field of stockpile management.

She is survived by one sister Thelma Taylor, of Little Rock, Arkansas.

There will be a private burial of ashes Tuesday 25th in Little Rock.

Arrangements are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home.

Wilson Eugene Taylor

Wilson Eugene Taylor, age 84, of Little Rock, died Saturday January 20, 2001. He was born in Harrison, Arkansas where he graduated from high school. After high school he joined the U.S. Navy serving as a Seabee during World War II in the Aleutian Islands, Alaska. After the war he returned to attend college at Arkansas State Teacher's now the University of Central Arkansas in Conway, where he received his degree in education. He first taught school at Westside in Heber Springs later moving to White Hall, Arkansas where he taught industrial arts at White Hall High School. In 1951 he became manager for building services for the Little Rock School District, retiring in 1977. Mr. Taylor was very interested in his son's athletic endeavors, once coaching his Little League baseball team. He loved his family and was an avid reader.

He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Myrtle Thornton Taylor of Little Rock, one son Randy Taylor and his wife Libby of Little Rock, one brother Kirby Taylor of Springfield, Missouri, one sister Mrs. Clyde Dewey of Harrison, Arkansas, and one granddaughter Ashley Taylor of Little Rock.

There will be a graveside funeral service Tuesday at 1 P.M. at Roselawn Cemetery officiated by Reverned Gayle Bone.

Arrangements are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home.

Mary E. (Betty) Ross Thomas

Mary E. (Betty) Ross Thomas, 83, of Little Rock died Friday, April 20, 2001. She was born in Little Rock to Henry Edward and Lelah Weed Ross. She was married to Robert O. Thomas who preceded her in death. Mrs. Thomas was treasurer and member of Woodhaven Missionary Baptist Church and president of the Paschal Heights Neighborhood Garden Club. During the years of raising her children she was a very active volunteer for the Little Rock Public Schools PTA. She was a State Fair, Blue Ribbon Winner, for her wonderful pies and was also a gifted seamstress.

Mrs. Thomas is survived by her children: Mary Gardner and her husband Frank, Frances Waters and her husband Dale, and June Boyce all of Little Rock, Robert Thomas and his wife Pat, and David Thomas and his wife Debbie all of Perryville, sisters, Frances Greenwood, and Carrie Block and a brother-in-law Ray McCright all of Little Rock and a sister-in-law, Phyllis Ross of Crossett and grandchildren Randy, Stuart and Jason Thomas, John Naugher, Kathy Johnson, Kimberley and Brad Boyce and six great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday at the Ruebel Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Randy Murray followed by burial in Pinecrest Memorial Park.

Arrangements are under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home.
