Sherry Kay Grimes

POCAHONTAS -- Sherry Kay Grimes, 44, of Pocahontas died Friday, Dec. 23, at Pocahontas Healthcare and Rehab Center.

Born on Jan. 5, 1961, at Saginaw, Mich., the daughter of Bud and Joyce Grimes of Pocahontas, she was a Jehovah's Witness.

Survivors in addition to her parents include a son, Emit Grimes and wife Stacey of Pocahontas; a brother, Gary Grimes of Pocahontas; and a nephew, Randy Grimes of Pocahontas.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cox-Waymon Funeral Home of Pocahontas, with Anthony Holt officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family for final expenses; An account has been set up at Bank of Pocahontas.

Alvin 'Ed' Malone

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. -- Alvin "Ed" Malone, 74, died Wednesday, Dec. 21, in Flagstaff.

He was born Aug. 1, 1931 to J.L and Norma Malone in Black Oak. He graduated from Caraway High School.

Before entering the U.S. Navy, he married Estelene Wood and later graduated from Arkansas State University. He and his family moved to Arizona in 1959. He was a teacher and later became principal for the Williams School District until 1988.

After retirement, he built and restored a church in Ash Fork.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Estelene; daughters, Valerie and her husband, Lorenzo Rodriguez; Robin Zabala of Williams, Ariz.; and Shelly Malone of Phoenix; brother, James Malone of Williams; sister, Anita Efrid of Alamagordo, N.M.; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Joe Malone, and son-in-law, Joe Zabala.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Canyon Chapel in Williams. Burial services will immediately follow in Williams Cemetery.

Arrangements are handled by Norvel Owens Mortuary.

Edwin Deal Puckett

PARAGOULD -- Edwin Deal Puckett, 91, went to be with the Lord Thursday, Dec. 22, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould. He was born June 23, 1914, at Grange.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lanell Price Puckett; an infant daughter, Joann; his father, Daniel Webster Puckett; his mother, Susie Davis Puckett; one sister, Ruth Andrews; and three brothers, Clyde Puckett, Olen Puckett, and Vern Puckett.

He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Carolyn Puckett, of Paragould, and Charlotte and her husband, Glen Slinker of Fort Gibson, Okla.; two grandsons Keith and his wife, Crystal Slinker of Madison, Wis., and Jason Slinker of Ithaca, N.Y.; two brothers, Wayne Puckett of Magnolia and George Puckett of Batesville; and a first great-grandchild to be born in February.

He was a member of Woodland Hills Church of the Nazarene where he served as Sunday school superintendent, church board member and minister of music.

He attended Vilonia High School and received his bachelor's and master's degrees in education from Arkansas State University in Jonesboro. He was a member of the Retired Teacher's Association.

As an educator, he served a total of 47 years in the capacities of teacher, coach, principal, and superintendent in the Arkansas Public Schools of Sharp, Lawrence, and Greene counties. He was superintendent at Lafe Public School for 16 years and Oak Grove Public School for eight years.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday at the Heath Funeral Home. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Heath Colonial Chapel in Paragould with the Revs. Eudell Stroud and Ulysess Cribbs officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Gardens in Paragould. Pallbearers are Christ Conger, Roy Draffen, Jack Price, Larry Price, Jade Price, and Ralph Sparkman. Honorary pallbearers are John Andrews and Keith Holifield.

Memorials may be made to the Education Fund in care of Woodland Hills Church of the Nazarene in Paragould.

Lois Sigman

DELL -- Lois Sigman, 85, of Dell died Thursday in Gosnell.

She was a member of Dell Baptist Church, a former lunchroom worker for the Dell Public School System and a former daycare worker at First Bapist Church in Blytheville.

She leaves two daughters, Loretta Payne and Carla Jo Nelson, both of Blytheville; one son, Earl "Kim" Sigman Jr. of Ash Flat; four sisters, three brothers, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside services are at 1:30 p.m. today at Elmwood Cemetery in Blytheville. Visitation is from noon until 1 p.m. today at Cobb Funeral Home.

Patsy Wicker

BONO -- Patsy Wicker, 52, died Thursday at St. Bernard's Medical Center in Jonesboro.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ.

She is preceded in death by her father, Thomas Zolan Miller.

She is survived by her husband, Jimmy C. Wicker, of the home; her mother, Marie Miller, of Hoxie; eight sisters, Debbie Burns and Naedean Mayland, both of Hoxie, Joyce Smith of Walnut Ridge, Carolyn Matthews of Oquawka, Ill., Linda Foley of Smithville, Tomiejean Grist and Patricia Brown, both of Pocahontas, and Brenda Binkley of Osceola; two brothers, Billy Miller of Walnut Ridge and Jim Miller of Hardy, and many other friends and relatives.

Graveside funeral services will be at 10 a.m. today at the Oak Forest Cemetery in Black Rock. Marion Stringer will officiate. Burial is under the direction of House-Gregg Funeral Home of Walnut Ridge.

Rachel Barner

LAFE -- Rachel Barner, 70, of Lafe, passed away Dec. 23 at St. Bernard's Medical Center in Jonesboro.

She was born December 17, 1935, in Dyersburg, Tenn. She had formerly worked in the Wal-Mart shoe department and was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Lafe and a member of the Lafe Ladies Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin L. Barner Jr.; her parents, Montie and Bessie Rogers; three brothers, Wesley Rogers, K. W. Rogers and William Earl Rogers; and three sisters, Earline Spence, Arline Parks and Frances Green.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Denise and Dennis Knuckles of Lafe, and Lisa and Robert Swink of Lafe; four granddaughters, and families, Shellie and Rich Gregg of Newark, Clarie and Riley, Stacey and Chris Dickinson of Paragould, Brittany Reese of Lafe and Katelin, Brooke Nolan of Lafe and Elizabeth and Grant; one grandson and family, Heath Farmer and Peyton, Sable and Kennedy, and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; one brother and a sister-in-law, Preston and Joann Rogers of Caruthersville, Mo.; and one sister, Emma Newton of Caruthersville. She is also survived by many special nieces, nephews and friends.

Graveside funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. John's Cemetery in Lafe, with Pastor Curt Dwyer officiating. A fellowship with the family will follow at the church. No visitation is scheduled.

Arrangements are by Mitchell Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church or the Lafe Ladies Auxiliary, P. O. Box 177, Lafe 72436.

Ernest Lavern Cook

BIGGERS -- Ernest Lavern Cook, 65, died Friday at his home.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Kay Cook of the home; two sons, James Cook of Maynard and Michael Cook of Minnesota; three daughters, Kimberly Davis and Sheri Baltz, both of Pocahontas, and Jamie Cooper of Blytheville; two brothers, Gary and Benny Cook of Pocahontas; a sister, Betty Cassidy of Pocahontas; 20 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Hite Cemetery, with Nelson Henderson officiating.

Visitation will be from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Tuesday at McNabb Funeral Home.

Kenneth Curtwright Sr.

PARAGOULD -- Kenneth Orval Curtwright Sr., 71, of Paragould passed from this life Dec. 21 at his home.

He was born June 10, 1934, in Manila, Mississippi County. He moved to Flint, Mich. after graduation at Greene County Tech in 1953 and worked at the Buick Motor Division. He was a Southern Gospel Singer and sang with the Gospelairs -- which changed its name to The Calvaryman Quartet -- for 15 years. He then moved back to Paragould and worked at L.A. Darling and Arkla. He owned Ken's Quality Carpets and also worked at AR-MO Homes. He was also an emcee and founding member of the Songsmen Quartet for 35 years. He was a member of the First Assembly of God and a deacon and Sunday school teacher.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Orval and Marie Clubb Curtwright.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Jean Black Curtwright; sons and daughters-in-law, Richard Gene Curtwright of Paragould, Kenneth O. Jr. and Debbie Rosse Curtwright of Jonesboro, and Edward Lee and Trudy Curtwright of Paragould; daughter and son-in-law, Janice Marie Curtwright and Kevin Clark of Paragould; six grandchildren, Samantha Carol Hogue of California, Megan Marie Curtwright, Brandon Mark Clark, Brittney Nicole Clark, and Brooke Daniele Clark, all of Paragould, and Matthew Rosse Curtwright of Jonesboro; and one great-granddaughter, Tabitha Analese Hogue of California.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Heath Colonial Chapel with Bro. Shannon Morgan officiating. Burial will follow at Greene County Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Monday at Heath Funeral Home.

Pallbearers are Charles Woodson, Alton Barnett, Rick Mann, Rick Curtwright, Ken Curtwright, Ed Curtwright, Kevin Clark, and Brandon Clark. Honorary pallbearers are Matthew Curtwright, Gaylon Gammill, Buddy Mann, Tracy Bacon, Ed Rayburn, Ray Crutchfield, Jim Glasco, Charles Glasco, Calvin Prestage, and Robert Sparks.

John Henry 'Sonny' Dacus

JONESBORO -- John Henry "Sonny" Dacus, 65, of Jonesboro died Saturday, Dec. 24, at St. Bernard's Medical Center.

Born in Craighead County, he lived in the area all his life.

Survivors include a sister, Shirley Sartain of Jonesboro; an aunt, Velma Anderson of Jonesboro; two nieces, Michelle Sullins and Donna Tate; four great-nieces; one great nephew; one great-great-niece and one great-great-nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alger "Bunk" and Celeste Riga Dacus.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Rock Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers include Steve Dacus, Rick Dacus, Bill Sartain, Bob Sartain, Ryan Sartain and Jim McLaughlin.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home.
