Gene Jester
DAISY -- Gene Jester, 58, of Daisy, died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2001.

Born Feb. 18, 1943, at Newhope to Roy and Stella O'Neal Jester, he worked at Weyerhaeuser in Dierks. He predeceased by his father; a son, Gregg Jester; and a brother Kelsie Jester.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Jester of Daisy; two sons and daughters-in-law, Rusty and Sherry Jester, and Randy and Wanda Jester, all of Daisy; two daughters and one son-in-law, Tawnya and Rick Minchew of Langley, and Tammy Sykes of Daisy; 13 grandchildren; his mother, Stella Jester of Newhope; three brothers, Earl Jester of Michigan, Jerel Jester of Indiana, and Lloyd Jester of Newhope; and four sisters, Erma Smith of Newhope, Betty Shepherd of Dierks, Helen Clampitt and Ruby Winkelman, both of Indiana.

The service will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Glenwd, with the Rev. Kenny Fant officiating.

Burial will be in the Mount Joy Cemetery at Daisy.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Jester, Joe Hill, Jeffery Hill, Dustin Hill, Michael Jester, Keith House, Dewayne House and Jeremy Jester.

Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Jester, Dustin Young and Jeff Epperson.

Jim A. Miller
The service for Jim A. Miller, 86, of Hot Springs, who died Monday, Nov. 19, 2001, will be 2 p.m. today in Briggsville First Baptist Church, Briggsville, with Brother Johnny Turner officiating.

Pallbearers will be Joe Thompson, Randy Umphers, Chris Fendley, Robert Johnson, Michael Harvey and Jonathan Johnson.

Honorary pallbearers are Drs. Troy Oxner, Michael Frais, Kim Agee and Matt Hulsey and St. Joseph's Mercy Health Center two east nursing staff.

Burial will be in New Bethel Cemetery, Plainview, with military honors provided by Thaddeus H. Caraway VFW Post 2278 Honor Guard.

Arrangements are by Hot Springs Funeral Home.

Verlie V. Riley
ALEXANDER - Verlie Vivian Riley, 96, of Alexander died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2001, in a Little Rock hospital.

Born March 29, 1905, in Clark County to Pat and Dona Ward Malone, she was a housewife and member of Church of Christ. She was predeceased by her husband, John Elbert Riley.

Survivors include one son, John Riley of Mesquite, Texas; five daughters, Janis Latta of Hot Springs, Jimmie Howell of Alexander, Patsy Teagarden of Houston, Ilena Spradlin of Texarkana, Texas, and Donna Fugitt of Benton; one brother, John B. Lawson of San Bernardino, Calif.; three sisters, Opal Rhodes of Benton, Lois Morris of Russellville and Georgia Jones of Little Rock; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

The service will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home chapel, Arkadelphia, with Dennis Gulledge and Wallace Alexander officiating.

Burial will be in Antoine Cemetery.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today.

Memorials may be made to Paragould Children's Home or Mabelvale Church of Christ.

Matt Abernathy
MOUNT IDA - Matt Abernathy, 19, of Mount Ida died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001.

Born Jan. 26, 1982, at Hot Springs to James and Linda Abernathy, he was a Mount Ida High Schl graduate, employed at Bob's Fd City, member of Faith Tabernacle and first responder with Mount Ida Volunteer Fire Department. He was predeceased by his grandparents, L.L. and Ozellar Abernathy.

Survivors include his parents of Mount Ida; three sisters, Jamie Mullins and Rebecca Abernathy, both of Mount Ida, and Cari Moyer of Columbia, S.C.; his grandparents, Norman and Edith Hopson of Mount Ida; three nieces, Kristen Mullins, Breanna Mullins and Jessica Moyer; two nephews, Andrew Moyer and Eli Abernathy; aunts; uncles; and cousins.

The service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Mount Ida First Assembly of God Church with Brothers Paul Burke and Roger Harper officiating.

Pallbearers will be Eric Wegner, Matt Polczynski, D.J. Foley, Jeremy Lea, Jarred Standridge, Jeremy Ward, Will Brakefield and Bubba James.

Honorary pallbearers are Albert Petty, Bobby Hanover, Mark Harmon, Mount Ida High Schl Class of 2000, Mount Ida Volunteer Fire Department and First Responders and Bob's Fd City employees.

Burial will be in Lone Valley Cemetery.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today.

Arrangements are by Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwd.

Thelma N. Grubbs
The service for Thelma N. Grubbs, 92, of Hot Springs who died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001, will be 11 a.m., today in Ebenezer Cemetery, Fordyce, with the Rev. Ken Shaddox officiating.

Pallbearers will be Robert Grubbs, Donald Grubbs, Rob Bates and Bryan Bates.

Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Timothy English and staff, her CrownTrace Villa friends, Rebena Graham and Patsy Gibbs.

Memorials may be made to Senior Companions.

Josephine Harden
Josephine Harden, 92, of Hot Springs died Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, in a local hospital.

Born Feb. 25, 1909, at Magnolia to Angie and Essie Harris, she was a retired National Baptist Hotel employee and member of Union Missionary Baptist Church where she was formerly in the Missionary Society, Beautification Club and an announcement clerk.

Survivors include one daughter, Mildred Russell of Hot Springs; one granddaughter, Jo Russell Price; and one great-granddaughter.

The service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Crestview Mausoleum with the Rev. Leon Massey officiating.

Arrangements are by Mitchell Funeral Home, Arkadelphia.

Oma J. Kirkpatrick
GLENWD - Oma Jewel Kirkpatrick, 59, of Glenwd died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001.

She was born June 10, 1942, at Glenwd to Bennett and Octavia Gatlin Cogburn.

Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law, Danny Kirkpatrick and Stevie and Veneda Kirkpatrick, all of Glenwd; one daughter and son-in-law, Tina and Jerry Cogburn of Glenwd; five brothers, Dewey Cogburn, Kenneth Cogburn and Grandville Cogburn, all of Glenwd, Wayne Cogburn of Murfreesboro and LD. Cogburn of Norman; five sisters, Helen Cogburn and Lois Wilhite, both of Glenwd, Shirley Spears and Lee Ellen Standridge, both of Amity, and Doris Rhodes of Nashville; and eight grandchildren.

The service will be 2 p.m. today in Hilltop Church, near Glenwd, with Brother Joe Cogburn officiating.

Pallbearers will be Levi Kirkpatrick, Danny Kirkpatrick, Stevie Kirkpatrick, Melven Kirkpatrick, Steven Kirkpatrick and Jesse Cogburn.

Honorary pallbearers are Jerry Cogburn, Kenith Cogburn and Jason Cogburn.

Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, near Newhope.

Born Jan. 5, 1940, at Reyno to Delmer and Dortha Cox Lynch, he was predeceased by his first wife, Carol Lynch.

Survivors include his wife of 19 years, Linda Buckley Lynch of Umpire; two sons and daughters-in-law, Brian and Debbie Lynch of Umpire and Donnie and Lisa Lynch of Kirby; one daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and Greg Evans of Glenwd; his mother of Rockford, Ill.; one stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, Lanny and Kim Wten of Delaware; one brother, Jimmy Lynch of Buie, Md.; five sisters, Alice Bentley, Ava Ulmer, Brenda Surgess and Susie Stephens, all of Rockford, and Leda Chambers of Umpire; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Davis-Smith Funeral Home chapel, Glenwd, with Brother Danny White and the Rev. J.B. Evans officiating.

Pallbearers will be Jackie Pilgreen, Herb Brogdon, Jackie Lamb, Leroy Linbille, Jimmy Hickie and Junior Nolan.

Honorary pallbearers are Jackie Peak, Wayne Gray, Jerold Linbille, Sidney Smith, Larry Nolan and Robert Starling.

Burial will be in Saline Cemetery.

ARKADELPHIA - Timothy John Mathis, 19, of Arkadelphia died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001.

Born Nov. 21, 1982, at Hot Springs to John Russell "Rusty" and Sandra L. Towell Mathis, he was a UCA student, inductee of Arkansas Chapter National Ftball Foundation and College Hall of Fame, Hten Scholar athlete, member of Lake Hamilton Baptist Church and on Arkadelphia High Schl Badgers volunteer coaching staff.

Survivors include his father and stepmother, Rusty and Stacy Mathis of Arkadelphia; his mother and stepfather, Sandra and Jack Clark of Monette; three sisters, Savannah Mathis and Jessica Clark, both of Monette, and Journey Nolan of Arkadelphia; one brother, Torin Nolan of Arkadelphia; and his grandparents, Sonny and Peggy Mathis of Leachville and Pete and Ttsie Towell of Monette.

The service will be 11 a.m. today in First Baptist Church with Dr. Tom Martin officiating.

Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Leachville Cemetery, Leachville.

Pallbearers will be coaches John Launius and Jeff McBride, Brian Grier, Richard Morrison, Ryan Walker, Scott Speights, Paul Gehrki and E.J. Jiles.

Honorary pallbearers are Ashley Drake, Josh Rogers, Chase Nowlin, Mac Tatman, Matt Yarbrough, Thomas Saul, Isiah Hkfin and the Arkadelphia High Schl ftball team.

Memorials may be made to the Tim Mathis Scholarship Fund at Firstar Bank.
