Kathie Murlas Beavers
June 10, 1952 - March 15, 2002

Kathie Murlas Beavers, age 49, of Pine Bluff, died at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, on Friday, March 15. She was born June 10, 1952, in Richmond, Virginia, a daughter of Bess George Murlas of Rockville, Maryland and the late George Peter Murlas. She spent her early life in Richmond, Japan and Italy. At age 10 she moved with her parents to Rockville, Maryland, where she graduated from Richard Montgomery High School in 1970. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1974 in elementary education from the University of Maryland with high honors, and then married her high school sweetheart, Russell T. Beavers, on June 8, 1974, in Rockville. She and her husband moved to the Pine Bluff area in 1980.
She was employed in various professions throughout her life including industrial sales,insurance services and marketing. In recent years, she began her own interior design and decorating business. She was an active community volunteer, serving on the Board of Volunteers in Public Schools for three years and as Chairman of that board for one year. She was also the Chairman of the Reading is Fundamental Program for Pine Bluff Schools and a facilitator for the SHARE Program. She was a member of the Trinity Episcopal School Board for several years, Board Vice President for one year and a member of the Trinity Episcopal School Partnership (ESP). She was a member of the White Hall Choir Parents Association and began the FROGS Program at Gandy Elementary School. She was a club mom for the Sisters in Service Group. Kathie was a member of the Junior League of Pine Bluff, Junior League past president, a sustainer advisor, as well as serving as committee chairman for various projects. Baptised and raised in the Greek Orthodox Church, she was an active member of Lakeside United Methodist Church for twelve years, where she served as Chairman of the Family Life, Pastor/Parish and Evangelism committees. She was presently a member of the First Baptist Church of White Hall.
Survivors include her husband, Russell Beavers of Pine Bluff, two daughters, Valerie Ann Beavers and Stephanie Gale Beavers, both of Pine Bluff. She is also survived by the mother, Bess George Murlas of Rockville, Maryland; her brother, John Murlas of Rockville, Maryland; and her sister, Deana Sipes of Greensboro, North Carolina.
According to her family, she was an outgoing, energetic woman, who touched many lives and accomplished many things. Her greatest joy was raising two daughters to be independent and caring people. Her daughters stated "She lifted us all to a better place and will be missed by many".
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 23, 2002, at 10:30 AM at the First Baptist Church of White Hall with Dr. Bob Harper officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery by Ralph Robinson & Son Funeral Directors.
The family will receive friend's at Robinson's Friday evening from 5 to 7:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to the American Cancer Society or to the Kathie Beavers Memorial Fund, First Baptist Church, 8203 Dollarway Road, White Hall, AR 71602.

Mildred F. ( Mikki ) Hogue
April 15, 1931 - March 21, 2002

Mildred F. "Mikki" Hogue age 70, of Round Rock Texas, formerly of Lovington, New Mexico, passed away Thursday, March 21, 2002, at Jefferson Memorial Medical Center.
Mrs. Hogue was born on April 15, 1931, in Drew Central County, Arkansas, a daughter of Bonnie and Ludye Tubbs Ferguson. She was reared in Drew Central county Arkansas and recieved her education from Eastern New Mexico University She married John Oliver Hogue on December 29, 1949, in Long Prairie Community, Drew Central County, Arkansas. He preceded her in death in 2001. She was a public school teacher in the Lovington, New Mexico Public School System. Mikki was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lovington, New Mexico.
Mikki is survived by two (2) sons, Mike Hogue of Midland, Texas, and Greg Hogue of Austin, Texas; one (1) daughter, Jeanne Stearns in Austin, Texas; one (1) brother, Jack Ferguson of Monticello, Arkansas; and three (3) sisters, Ms. Billie Simpson and Margie Sullivan both of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, and Ms. La bonne Strong of Lovington, New Mexico; eight (8) grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. M.S.T., Thursday, March 28, 2002 at the First United Methodist Church in Lovington New Mexico.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society 901 N. University, Little Rock Ar. 72207.

John Moody Barrett IV
October 04, 1937 - March 25, 2002

John Moody Barrett IV, 64, died Monday, March 25, 2002 at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff, AR. Born October 4, 1937 in Sherrill, Arkansas, he was the son of the late John Moody Barrett III and Virginia Jenkins Barrett.
He was reared and educated in Sherrill graduating from Altheimer High School. He attended the University of Arkansas at Monticello and the Memphis College of Art.
Mr. Barrett owned and operated Barrett Farms in Sherrill, AR. He owned and operated the Frame-up Art Gallery, retiring in 1994. He was also a former partner in Wallis Advertising Agency. Mr. Barrett was a member of Sherrill First United Methodist Church, where he served on the church board. He was a member of the Arkansas Farm Bureau and the Sherrill City Council.
His survivors include his wife of 39 years, Julia Foster Barrett, whom he married July 29, 1962, in Sherrill, AR; two sons, Bret Barrett of Sherrill, AR and Mark Barrett of Sherrill, AR; a daughter and son-in-law, Sherrill and Bryan Hosto of Little Rock, AR; and two grandchildren, Barrett Hosto and Hayden Hosto of Little Rock, AR. Mr. Barrett was preceded by his parents and one brother, Jim Barrett.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 27, 2002 at 4:00 PM in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with the Reverend Mike Wilkie officiating. Burial will be at Bellwood Annex Cemetery in Pine Bluff.
The family will receive friends at their home, 409 Main Street, Sherrill, AR 72152.
The family requests memorials to be sent to Sherrill First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 8, Sherrill, AR 72152.

R. C. Chappell
July 15, 1926 - March 23, 2002

R C Chappell, 76, of Pine Bluff died Saturday at Jefferson Regional Medical Center.
He was born July 15, 1926 in Casey, Arkansas, to Rufus Calvin and Hazel Hammonds Chappell. He was reared and received his early education in Pine Bluff.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Bernice Fitzhugh Chappell, son, Richard Chappell, step-son, David Spadoni, and a sister, Penny Chappell.
Mr. Chappell was an administrative assistant for M K Distributors.
He is survived by two sons, Steve Chappell of Kyle, Texas, David Chappell of Bellflower, California, three step-sons, Danny Spadoni of Bryant, Larry Spadoni of Pine Bluff, Ricky Spadoni of Sheridan, daughter, Louise Burke of Boise, Idaho, four step-daughters, Joyce Wyatt of Pine Bluff, Mary Allen, Deborah Lowery and Rhonda Barton, all of Sheridan, his fiancee, Nova Rogers of Pine Bluff, two brothers, Bobby Chappell of Tampa, Florida, Norman Chappell of Clarksville, two sisters, Shelba Jean Phillips of Pine Bluff, Flora Mae Robinson of Heber Springs, nine grandchildren, thirteen step-grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson and Son, with Reverends Bryan Jarrett and Lyle Hern officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, by Ralph Robinson and Son Funeral Directors.
The family will receive friends at Robinson's, Wednesday, 6-8 P.M.

William Charles ( Bill ) Hosman
February 11, 1932 - March 25, 2002

W. C. "Bill" Hosman, 70, formerly of the Hardin Community, now living in Marmaduke, Arkansas died Monday, March 25, 2002 at St. Bernard's Medical Center in Jonesboro. He was born February 11, 1932 in Hutchinson, Kansas to Bill and Pearl Cornwell.
He was reared and educated in Pine Bluff, where he graduated from White Hall High School. Mr. Hosman served in the United States Army 1st Cavalry Division during the Korean Conflict.
He married the former Gwen Payne on March 16, 1954 in Paragould, Arkansas. Mr. Hosman worked as a Letter Carrier for the U.S. Postal service 28 ½ years before retiring in 1991.
He worked for 4 years as the Parking Lot Attendant for Simmons First National Bank in Pine Bluff before moving to Marmaduke. He was a member of the Hardin Baptist Church.
Mr. Hosman is preceded in death by his adoptive father and mother, Charles E. and Marie Hildesheim Hosman; brother, Ernest Cornwell; his biological father and mother, Bill and Pearl Cornwell and three infant sons.
Survivors include his wife, Gwen Hosman of Marmaduke; son Randy D. Hosman of Marmaduke; half brother, Ernest L. Cornwell of Yakima, Washington; half sisters, Cleda Hancock of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Letha Mae Tiburzi of Tempe, Arizona and Anna Mildred Steinhauser of Riverside, California.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 27, 2002, 10:30 to 11:30 AM at Ralph Robinson and Son. Graveside service will be Noon in Memorial Park Cemetery by Ralph Robinson's with Pastor Ross Harris officiating.

Florence Elizabeth Coker
December 17, 1928 - March 25, 2002

Florence Elizabeth Coker, age 73, of Little Rock, formerly of the Pine Bluff area, passed away, Monday Evening, at Baptist Hospital.
Florence was born December 17, 1928, in Jersey, Arkansas a daughter of John H. And Maude Lee Henry McDougald. The family moved to Star City then to White Hall, where she graduated as valedictorian of her class. Florence attended Ouachita Baptist University and Arkansas University in Monticello, Arkansas. She married Raymond C. Coker on June 1, 1958 in Pine Bluff. He preceded her in death on May 6, 1996. Florence worked at the Pine Bluff Arsenal in the accounting office until her retirement in the mid 60's due to Multiple Sclerosis.
Mrs. Coker is survived by her daughter, Shirley Coker, of Little Rock; two sisters, Martha Jean (John Wayne) Gibson of Richardson, Texas and Ann Jo (J.W.) Kennedy of Mechanicsville, Virginia.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, March 28, 2002, at 2:00 p.m. at Graceland Cemetery, 2122 West Pullen Street, Pine Bluff. Visitation will be on Thursday, from 11:00 to 1:00 p.m. at Ralph Robinson and Son Funeral Directors, 807 Cherry, Pine Bluff.

Vera Mae Russell
August 24, 1920 - October 03, 2001

Vera Mae Russell, 81, of 1518 Pine Street in Pine Bluff died Wednesday, October 3, 2001, at Pine Bluff Nursing and Rehabillitation Center. Born August 24, 1920, in Pine Bluff, a daughter of the late William Luther and Addie Virginia Chowning Smith, she was reared and received her education in Pine Bluff, graduating from Pine Bluff High School. A lifelong resident of Pine Bluff, she was a homemaker, former employee of the Pine Bluff Arsenal and Simmons First National Bank, and member of Wesley United Methodist Church
. Survivors include her husband, Leslie Russell of Pine Bluff; sons, Jim Russell of Pine Bluff and Leslie F. Russell, Jr. of North Carolina; sisters, Annie Lois Phillips of Pine Bluff and Margaret Easterly of Phoenix, Arizona; grandsons; Kenneth J. Russell of Star City and John Leslie Russell of the United States Navy; granddaughter, Leslie C. Russell of Star City; great-grandson, Austin Russell of Augusta, Georgia. A sister, Mary Ruth Fergusson, died before her in 2001.
Services are 10:30 AM, Tuesday, October 9, at graveside in Graceland Cemetery by Robinson's.

Geneva Taylor Daniels
January 07, 1925 - March 27, 2002

Geneva Taylor Daniels, age 77, of Pine Bluff, passed away on Wednesday Morning, March 27, 2002, at her home.
Geneva was born January 7, 1925, a daughter of Marion Allen and Menta Barker Taylor in Eldorado, Arkansas. She was raised in Eldorado and graduated from Norphlet High School. Geneva married John Daniels on April 21, 1944, in Eldorado. Mrs. Daniels graduated, with honors, from the University of Arkansas in Monticello in 1965. She taught for the Altheimer Public School System until her retirement in 1976.
Mrs. Daniels is survived by her husband, John; one son, David (Shirley) of Pine Bluff ; and two (2) grandsons, David and John.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday Morning, March 30, 2002, at 10:30 a.m. at Arlington Memorial Park, in Eldorado, Arkansas. Visitation will be on Friday, March 29, 2002, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.at Ralph Robinson and Son Funeral Home, 807 Cherry, Pine Bluff, and also from 10:00-10:30 at the Cemetery on Saturday Morning.

Nancy Laverne O'Dell
January 21, 1927 - March 31, 2002

Nancy Laverne O'Dell, 75, of Star City, Arkansas died Sunday, March 31, 2002 at Jefferson Regional Medical Center, Pine Bluff. She was born January 21, 1927 in Memphis, Tennessee to George Monroe and Marie Beard Cowan.
Mrs. O'Dell was reared and educated in Memphis where she attended School. She worked as a hostess and cashier at Chris's Steak House in New Orleans, Louisiana for 12 years. She married J. T. O'Dell, Sr., August 30, 1946 in Benton, Arkansas. They owned and operated a grocery store in Longtown, Mississippi for 7 years.
Mrs. O'Dell was a Baptist by faith.
She is preceded in death by her husband, J. T. O'Dell, Sr. and parents,George Monroe and Marie Beard Cowan.
Survivors include a son and spouse, J. T. & Eileen O'Dell, Jr. of Metairie, Louisiana; daughter and spouse, Linda Marie & John Edward Doucet, Sr. of Shreveport, Louisiana; grandchildren and spouces, Danny & Stacy O'Dell, Cherie O'Dell & Albert Pumila, John Edward & Sylvia Doucet, Jr. and Jody A. Doucet; great-grandchildren, Cody O'Dell, Casey O'Dell, Eric Doucet and Andrea Doucet.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, 6 to 8 PM at Ralph Robinson and Son.
Services are 10:00 AM, Wednesday, April 3, 2002 at Ralph Robinson's Chapel with Reverend Jimmy Watson officiating. Burial will be in Cypress Memorial Gardens at Pine Bluff.
