Charles Coble
Charles Wayne Coble, 77, of Van Buren died Monday, March 31, 2003, at a local nursing home. He was a retired truck driver from ABF Freight Systems and a member of Van Buren First Baptist Church, Van Buren Masonic Lodge No. 6 and Cedar Masonic Lodge No. 762. He was a Navy Seebee veteran of World War II, having served in the New Calidonia.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby; one daughter, Donna Edwards of Van Buren; two sons, Ron Coble of Van Buren and Charles Coble of El Dorado; two grandchildren, Brad and Karen Coble, both of Van Buren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Ocker Memorial Chapel in Van Buren. Burial will be at Gracelawn Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Brad Coble, Erhard Schulze, Dr. Larry Englehoven, Allen Penrod, Jim Freeman and Michael O’Bryan.
The family will visit with friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Ocker Funeral Home, 700 Jefferson, Van Buren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Van Buren First Baptist Church Building Fund, 1121 E. Main St., Van Buren, AR 72956.

Curtis Langston
Curtis McVey Langston, 73, of Van Buren died Tuesday, April 1, 2003, at his home. He was an Army and Navy veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Robbie Langston; one daughter, Staycee Shelly of Van Buren; two sons, Curtis Langston Jr. of Tulsa and Bobby R. Moore of Van Buren; one brother, William Langston of Porterville, Calif., and seven grandchildren.
Graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Cain Cemetery near Mountainburg under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.

Clifford Watson
Clifford Watson, 86, of Wenatchee, Wash., formerly of Van Buren, died Saturday, March 29, 2003, in Wenatchee. He was a retired truck driver for ABF Freight Systems, a Van Buren constable for 14 years, of the Methodist faith and preceded in death by his first wife, Margie Watson.
Survivors include his wife, Katheryn Watson; one daughter, Glenda McClelland of Van Buren; one stepdaughter, Joyce Stetner of Leavenworth, Wash.; one son, Dennis Watson of Van Buren; one stepson, David Noble of Stanwood, Wash.; one sister, Geneva Wiley of Van Buren; one brother, Dutch Watson of Van Buren; four grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several stepgreat-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Gracelawn Cemetery in Van Buren under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Watson, Charlie Watson, Colby Waton, Larry Wiley, Kim Newman and Brandon Newman.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Ocker Funeral Home, 700 Jefferson, Van Buren.

Lucille Fitzgerald
Lucille V. “Granny” Fitzgerald, 77, of Mountainburg died Saturday, March 29, 2003, at a local hospital. She was a homemaker, member of Pigeon Creek Freewill Baptist Church, lifelong resident of Crawford County and the widow of B.J. Fitzgerald.
She is survived by four daughters, Patty Cox of La Crescenta, Calif., Debbie Nauman of Van Buren, Beverly Adams of Winslow and Johnnie Elkins of Mountainburg; a son, Lee Roddy of Lake Elsinore, Calif.; a sister, Johnnie Bentley of Lawton, Okla.; a brother, Billy Crawford of Wichita, Kan.; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held April 2 at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith.
Pallbearers were Nelson and Andrew Adams, Jerry Davidson and B.J. Elkins.

Fred Sharrah
Fred Sharrah, 50, of Van Buren died Sunday, March 30, 2003, at a local hospital. He was a dairy worker.
He is survived by his wife, Gail; four daughters, Vickie and Felicia Sharrah, both of the home, Mary of Ada, Okla., and Anna of Dallas; two sons, Matthew and Joseph Sharrah, both of the home; his mother, Louise Blasingame of Van Buren; two sisters, Veneta Blasingame and Cathy Jones, both of Van Buren; seven brothers, Roy Sharrah of Cameron, Cordell, Rick, Troy and Leroy Sharrah, all of Van Buren, Larry Sharrah of Sapulpa, Okla., and Randy Casey of Punta Gorda, Fla.; and seven grandchildren.
Graveside service was held April 2 at Hall Cemetery Arbor with burial at Hall Cemetery in Natural Dam under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers were his brothers.

Charley Pursell
Charley O. Pursell, 95, of Van Buren died Monday, March, 24, 2003, at his home. He was born Sept. 18, 1907, in St. Paul, Ark., to the late Rev. William Pursell and his wife, Emma.
Mr. Pursell married Tosie Lane in 1938 and had celebrated 64 wedding anniversaries with her. He worked for Shipley Baking Co. for more than 40 years, was a past member of the Van Buren School Board and was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Bond Special. He enjoyed farming and gardening and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan.
He is survived by his wife, Tosie; three daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and John Seftner of Van Buren, Marlene and Steve Pfeifer of Danville and Sharon and Dennis Day of Sallisaw; a son, Jimmy Pursell of Van Buren; three sisters, Essie Weldon and Florene Armstrong, both of Van Buren, and Bessie Cole of Fort Smith; 10 grandchildren, Gary Johnson of New York, John Johnson of San Francisco, Calif., David Johnson and Amy Dodson, both of Van Buren, T.J. Seftner and Shanna McCarty, both of Fort Smith, Wade Pursell of Houston, Randy Pursell of Fayetteville, Whitney Pfeifer of Russellville and Sandi McCarty of Sallisaw; and four great-grandchildren, Nathan and Abby Johnson of Van Buren, Tanner Pursell of Fayetteville and McKayla Dodson of Van Buren.
Funeral service was held March 26 at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at Gracelawn Cemetery in Van Buren.
Pallbearers were his grandsons.

Jimmy Hudson
Jimmy J. Hudson, 75, of Van Buren died Thursday, March 20, 2003, at his home. He was a founding member, deacon and treasurer of Oliver Springs Freewill Baptist Church and retired from Kay Chair Co.
Survivors include his wife, Patsy; two daughters, Diane Beckham and husband, Stanley, and Nancy Canady and husband, Michael, all of Van Buren; one son, Terry Hudson and wife, Susan, of Van Buren; two sisters, Helen Fight of Van Buren and Rena Brewer of Mount Ida, Ark.; one brother, Garland Hudson of Van Buren; and seven grandchildren, Justin and Ryan Beckham, Brandon, Scott and Luke Hudson and Crystal and April Canady.
Funeral service was held March 22 at Ocker Memorial Chapel in Van Buren. Burial was at Mount McCurry Cemetery near Rudy under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Justin and Ryan Beckham and Brandon, Scott and Luke Hudson, and sons-in-law, the Rev. Mike Canady and Stanley Beckham.
Honorary pallbearers were the Men’s Sunday School Class of the Oliver Springs Freewill Baptist Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Oliver Springs Freewill Baptist Church, 2019 Zion Road, Van Buren AR 72956.

Floyd Black
Floyd J. Black, 86, of Van Buren died Saturday, March 22, 2003, at his home. He was a retired farmer, a member of the Shibley Baptist Church and the widower of Bonnie Black.
He is survived by two sons, Gary Black and Larry Black, both of Van Buren; a sister, Dorothy Willmon of Van Buren; and four grandsons, Eddie, Jeff, Steven and Eric Black, all of Van Buren.
Funeral service was held March 25 at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Gracelawn Cemetery in Van Buren.
Pallbearers were his grandsons and Jim and Chad Willmon.

Kathleen Smedley
Kathleen Ward Smedley, 93, of Fort Smith died Saturday, March 22, 2003, at a local nursing home. She was a former secretary and receptionist for Superior Federal Bank, a member of Oak Cliff Baptist Church, a past president of Business and Professional Women’s Club and a past officer of Insurance Women. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Tom Ward and C.J. Smedley.
She is survived by three daughters, Kay Goodman of Lavaca, Patricia Mills of North Little Rock and Lora Golebiewski of Armada, Mich.; a son, Judge John Ward of North Little Rock; 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held March 25 at Oak Cliff Baptist Church with burial at Oak Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Putman Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
Pallbearers were Steve and Blake Almond, Brian Crane, Tim Hulse, Tony Ray and John Mills.

Elizabeth Nolze
Elizabeth Marie “Liz” Nolze, 61, of Alma died Saturday, March 22, 2003, at a local hospital. She was a homemaker and a Catholic.
Graveside service was held March 25 at Alma Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.
She is survived by her fiancee, Bill Johnson of the home; two daughters, Tammy Elmore of West Fork and Julie Smith of Spiro; a son, Edward Cravens of Wichita, Kan.; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Truman Hall
Truman W. Hall, 71, of Bee Branch, formerly of Little Rock, died Friday, March 21, 2003. He was a graduate of Joe T. Robinson High School and a Marine Corps veteran. After being in the retail lumber business for 28 years, he became a representative and a lobbyist for the Mid American Lumberman’s Association and served at its president in 1987-88. He was a member of Bee Branch Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Greer Hall; two daughters, Pamela H. Boyd of Conway and Kathryn Ayres of Bee Branch; one son, Michael Hall of Little Rock; two sisters, Mildred Turner and Rosa Lee Perrien, both of Bee Branch; and four grandchildren.
Funeral service was held March 25 at Calvary Baptist Church with burial at Pinecrest Memorial Park under the direction of Roller-Chenal Funeral Home.

Alberta Looney
Alberta V. Looney, 81, of Barling died Thursday, March 20, 2003, at a local hospital. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Fort Smith, retired from the Times Record and Sparks Hospital and a volunteer with the Barling Police Department.
She is survived by four daughters, Doris Looney of California, Carol Waldrop and Claudene Britt, both of Barling, and Linda Lemon of Alma; a son, Robert Looney of Van Buren; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Graveside service was held March 25 at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Van Buren.
Pallbearers were James Hamilton, Larry Merrill, Tracy Powell, Myron Lamora, Robert Looney and Dewayne Britt.
