May Barnhill

HARRISBURG — May Barnhill, 69, of Harrisburg died Saturday, Aug. 2, at Jonesboro.

A retired Jackson’s Funeral Home employee and homemaker, she enjoyed taking care of grandchildren and children. May was in Senior Citizen Club, received a GED, took classes at Delta Vocational Tech and some college, and was a devoted Navy wife for 30 years.

May is survived by husband, Leon Barnhill; daughters, Shon Brown and Carla Armesteadt; sons, Therial and Larry Barnhill; two brother; one sister; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday in Jackson’s Harrisburg Funeral Home. Interment in Wilson Cemetery.

Visitation is tonight from 6-9.

James W. Johnston

LITTLE ROCK — James W. Johnston, 75, died Saturday, Aug. 2, at Five Rivers Medical Center.

He was born Jan. 10, 1933, in Randolph County to the late Harold W. and Nola Harris Johnston. His wife, Aster Ulmer Johnston, and sister, Mary Nell, also preceded him in death.

Survivors include a son, Kevin Johnston and wife Diana of Little Rock; two daughters, Felicia Borin and husband Don of Columbus, Ga., and LeAnn Ruddick and husband Pat of Marion; 10 grandchildren, Chayne Johnston, Alisha Brown, Seth, Cody, Will, Beau and Cole Borin, and Linley, Aspen and Breck Ruddick; a great-grandson, Camp Brown; a brother, Wendell Johnston; and a sister, Carol Lea McGuirt, both of Maynard.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of McNabb Funeral Home with John Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in Brockett Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Southern Christian Home at Morrilton or Children’s Homes Inc. at Paragould.

Ressie Mae Moore

MARKED TREE — Ressie Mae Moore, 66, of Marked Tree died Wednesday, July 30.

Survivors include sons, Willie Thomas Dobbins and Early Dobbins, both of Marked Tree, and Charles Dobbins of Lepanto; daughter, Darlene Dobbins Dunham of East Point, Mich.; sisters, Minnie Moore of Marked Tree, Scottie Sue Moore of Phoenix, Bennie Faye Moore of Detroit and Richard Mae River of Chicago; brothers, Thomas Moore of Boynton Beach, Fla., and John Moore of Marked Tree; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are 11 a.m. Wednesday in Anderson Chapel Missionary Baptist Church at Marked Tree with burial in Cherry Beam Cemetery at Tyronza. Woodard Funeral Service of Marked Tree is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.

Michael Murphy

JONESBORO — Michael Murphy died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008, at his residence.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and entrusted to Gregg Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Kenneth Reed

BAY — Kenneth Reed, 68, of Bay died Sunday at NEA Baptist Hospital at Jonesboro.

Survivors include his wife, Shelby Reed.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Emerson Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Donna Roofe

CORNING — Donna Roofe, 56, of Corning died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008, in St. Bernards Regional Medical Center.

She is survived by her husband, Doyle Roofe; son, John Howard Day of Peach Orchard; mother, Ercell Spicer of Corning; brother, Rick Spicer of Little Rock; stepsons, Jeremy and Chris Roofe of Corning; and stepdaughter, Lea Landreth of Biggers.

She was preceded in death by her father, Howard A. Spicer.

Visitation will be tonight from 6-8 in Ermert Funeral Home at Corning.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home with burial in Woodland Heights Cemetery at Rector.

Dona Mae Barnes

POCAHONTAS — Dona Mae Barnes, daughter of the late Tennessee “Tennie” York and John Henry Gregory, was born Sept. 8, 1921, in the Lorine Township of Pocahontas.

She departed this life Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008, at the age of 86.

Her husband, Blake Baker “BB” Barnes, preceded her in death.

She is survived by one son, Charles Harlin “Chuck” Barnes and wife, Mary of Pocahontas; five daughters, Jonnie Darlene Cline of Franklin, Ky., Barbara Ann Slayton and husband, Mac of Myrtle, Mo., Katy Sue Thompson and husband, Marc of Redfield, Martha Jane “Marty” Steel and husband, Roger of Mountain Home and Belinda K. “Bloop” Barnes of Benton. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon at McNabb Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at 1:30 p.m. in City Cemetery at Doniphan, Mo., with Joby Steele officiating.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Mrs. Barnes’ name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis 38105.

Helen Martha Baltz Cox

MEMPHIS — Helen Martha Baltz Cox died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2008, at her residence in Memphis.

She was born April 21, 1941, at Pocahontas.

Her parents, John V. and Gaye Baltz; husband, Everett Cox; and sister, Bernadette Lemon preceded her in death.

Surviving are her children, Amanda Grace McCarty of Memphis, Charlotte Suzanne Kaufman of Gainesville, Ga., Darrah Marie Cole of Mountain Home; five grandchildren; brother, Jim Baltz of Pocahontas; and sisters, Suzanne Koterski of Chadds Ford, Pa., Sarah Hotzel and Loretta Scribner, both of Shawnee, Kan.

Funeral services will be under the direction of McNabb Funeral Home. No visitation is planned.

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Paul’s Catholic Church on Friday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. John Marconi officiating and burial in St. Paul Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Cancer Society of St. Paul Trust Fund.

Anna Faye Gosha

WALNUT RIDGE — Anna Gosha, 51, of Walnut Ridge, passed away Saturday.

Survivors include her mother, Martha McQuay of Hoxie; her husband, Michael Gosha of Walnut Ridge, children, Candy Bridges of Walnut Ridge, Leslie Ripley and Adam Gosha of Hoxie; five grandchildren; siblings, Darrell McQuay of Alicia, Mitchell McQuay and Karen Woolbright, both of Hoxie, and Steven McQuay of Walnut Ridge;

Service will be Wednesday, at 3 p.m. in Bryan Chapel at Hoxie. Interment will be in Antioch Cemetery near Warm Springs with Bryan Funeral Home in charge.

Visitation will be this evening from 6-8.

Talmage ‘Rickie’ Hill

WYNNE — Talmage “Rickie” Hill, animal control officer for the City of Wynne, age 59, of Wynne passed away Sunday.

Survivors are his wife, Linda Sue Hill of the home; son, Jonathan Randie Hill of Wynne; brother, Randie L. Hill of Trumann; and grandchildren, Courtney and Megan Hill of Wynne.

Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Kernodle Funeral Home Chapel at Wynne with burial in Harrisburg Memorial Park.

Visitation will be this evening from 6-8 at Kernodle Funeral Home.

Ralph Jones

CHEROKEE VILLAGE — Ralph Jones, 83, of Cherokee Village died Sunday in Mountain Home.

Retired from Ford Motor Co., he served in the Navy during World War II and was one of the first Navy Seals.

Survivors include his wife, Joan Jones of the home; daughter, Shelley Worth of Toledo, Ohio; sons, David Jones of Cherokee Village, Kevin Jones of Boston, and Robert Jones of Camp Arifjan, Kuwait; sister, Shirley Geiman of Toledo; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Arrangements are by Heath Funeral Home at Highland. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening at 5 with Rosary said at 6:30.

Funeral Mass will be in St. Michael’s Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Thursday.
