NETTIE MAE REESE

Mrs. Nettie Mae Reese, 43, of Steele, Mo., died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Blytheville. Born to Gorden and Bobbie Defoe Selvar in Port Angeles, Wash., she had been an area resident most of her life. A former owner and operator of Nettie's Barbeque, she became a truck driver for J.E. Phillips Mail Service in Memphis, Tenn., but retired due to health problems. According to friends and family, she was a wonderful person who was devoted to her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mrs. Reese leaves her husband, William Reese of the home;

Her children, Jerry Reese of Steele and Charlotte and Michael Terry of Steele;

Her stepchildren, Scott Reese of Kansas City, Mo., Margie Starky of Forest City and Monica McCland of Arnold, Calif.;

Her daughter-in-law, Cindy Reese of Gosnell; and

Her grandchildren, Victoria Reese, Miranda, Chase and Chelsey Terry, Rhonda Mae Reese, Jerry "Bubba" Reese Jr. and Brittany and Cari Decker;

Her brother and sister-in-law, Billy and Angie Defoe of Gosnell;

Her in-laws, Larry and Maxine Ellis, Billy and Imojean Olson and Charlene Thorp; and

A host of friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Cobb Funeral Home Chapel in Blytheville, with the Revs. Gary Hyde and Kenny Davis officiating. A private burial will be conducted.

The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

CHARLES SCALES

Mr. Charles Scales, 82, of Osceola, died Tuesday, July 30, 2002, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Osceola. He had been a plumber.

Mr. Scales leaves his wife, Retha Scales of Shannon, Miss.;

Two sons, K.C. Scales of Osceola and Henry Scales of Chicago;

One godson, Clyde Harris of Osceola;

Four daughters, Mary Scott of Dyersburg, Tenn., Charlene Coleman of Chicago, Ada Matthews of Saginaw, Mich., and Annie Smith of Chicago;

One sister, Maggie Berry of Belden, Miss.;

One brother, James Scales of Belden; and

Eighteen grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 5 p.m. Saturday at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in Osceola, with the Rev. Moses Black officiating. Burial will follow in Whiteside Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be family and friends.

The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

LALA SMITH VIA

Mrs. Lala Smith Via, 95, of Kennett, Mo., died today, Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, at Kennett National Healthcare. Born April 3, 1907, in Caruthersville, Mo., she was a member of the Samford Church of Christ in Steele, Mo., and the Culbertson Community Homemakers Club. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John T. Frame and Sally Clark Frame; her first husband, Homer Smith; her second husband, Herman Via; and five brothers.

Mrs. Via leaves one son and his wife, John and Lucille Smith of Steele;

Her daughter and husband, Betty and Buck Whitfield of Steele;

One grandson, Gary Whitfield of Texas;

One granddaughter, Gwen Whitfield of Memphis;

Two grandsons and their wives, Terry and Jim Smith of Steele and David and Gwen Smith of Branson, Mo.;

Four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; and

Many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Bradshaw-Powell Funeral Home, with Mr. John Mundy officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Zion Cemetery.

The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

LOUIS WILCHIE SR.

Mr. Louis Wilchie Sr., 50, of Marie, died Tuesday, July 30, 2002, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Osceola. He had been a farm worker.

Mr. Wilchie leaves his wife, Helen Wilchie of the home;

Three sons, Anthony Tyrone Wilchie of Conway, Gerald Wilchie of Memphis, Tenn., and Louis Wilchie Jr. of Marie;

Two daughters, Stephanie Bledsoe of Hot Springs and Latoya Brown of Driver;

Four sisters, Mattie Wesson, Laura Bailey and Mary Chisum, all of Memphis, and Carrie Price of Hot Springs;

Six brothers, Willie Wilchie, the Rev. Eddie Wilchie, Billy Wilchie and J.C. Wilchie, all of Memphis, Stanley Wilchie of West Memphis and Clarence Wilchie of Marie; and

Seven grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Wilson Funeral Home in Osceola, with the Rev. Waldo Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in Rivercrest Gardens Cemetery in Marie. Active pallbearers will be the family.

The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

ARBEE 'BONE' ANDERSON JR.

Mr. Arbee "Bone" Anderson Jr., 47, of Blytheville, died Friday, Nov. 22, 2002, at Methodist Healthcare University in Memphis, Tenn. Born May 27, 1955, in Heth, he was a former employee of Louis George Motor Co. and a member of Bible Way Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, R.B. and Helena Anderson.

Mr. Anderson leaves his wife, Deborah "Debbie" Thomas Anderson of Blytheville;

Four sons, Anthony "Dank" Dadgryn Anderson, and Reginald "Reggie" Thomas, Arbee "Bee Bee" Anderson III and Tommy James "James" Anderson, all of Blytheville;

One daughter, Angela Renee "Bye Bye" Anderson of Blytheville;

His sisters and stepsisters, Mary Faye Brown, Earnestine McDowell and Theresa Anderson, all of Milwaukee, Mary Campbell and Darlene Patrick, both of Milwaukee, and Georgia Allen (Willie) of Brooklyn, N.Y.;

Four brothers, Robert Thompson (Cleo) of Memphis, Johnny Lee Anderson (Christine) and Ollie Anderson (Ella), all of Blytheville, and Connie Anderson of Milwaukee;

Three stepbrothers, Howard Campbell (Debbie) of Lexington, Ky., Henry Campbell (Valerie) and Eddie Campbell, all of Milwaukee;

Two special friends, Rosco Sharkey (Teresa) of Blytheville and Coy Johnson (Deloris) of Osceola; and

Three grandchildren, Reginald Lee "Little Reg" Thomas Jr. of Blytheville and Anthony Anderson Jr. and Destiny Anderson, both of Chicago.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at New St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, with Elder Curtis Smith Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Blytheville.

The family will receive visitors from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Wilson Funeral Home in Blytheville.

BEAULAH 'MISS DAYDEE' BARNES

Mrs. Beaulah "Miss Daydee" Barnes, 90, of Blytheville, died Monday at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Blytheville. She was the mother of Clarence Malone of Blytheville.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Collins Chapel Mortuary Inc. of Blytheville.

RONNIE BEARD

Mr. Ronnie Beard, 54, a lifelong resident of Blytheville, died Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, at his home. Born in Blytheville, the son of William "Bill" and Betty Lynn Little Beard, he was of the Protestant faith. He served his country as a chief boatswain mate in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War and was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Disabled American Veterans.

According to his family, he loved family life, fishing and baseball. During his years of growing up in Blytheville, he played baseball beginning with Little League and continuing through American Legion baseball, where he won the overall state batting championship in the late 1960s.

His father and one brother, Johnny Paul Beard, preceded him in death.

Mr. Beard leaves his wife, Ann Ashmore Beard of the home;

His mother, Betty Beard of Blytheville;

Two children, Keary Ashmore of Millington, Tenn., and Deann Schloesser of Germany;

Two brothers, Tony Beard of Marion and Kenny Beard of Burlison, Texas, and

Four grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. today in the Cobb Funeral Home Chapel in Blytheville, with Mr. Billy Holifield officiating. Burial followed in Elmwood Cemetery.

HORACE WAYNE BURTON

Mr. Horace Wayne Burton, 43, of Long Beach, Calif., formerly of Blytheville, died Aug. 23, 2002, in Long Beach.

A memorial service will be conducted at noon Friday at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Blytheville. The Rev. Horace Howard will officiate.

GARY LEE JOHNSON

Mr. Gary Lee Johnson, 26, of Blytheville, died Saturday, Nov. 23, 2002, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Osceola. Born Feb. 4, 1976, in Osceola, he had been a farm worker and was of the Baptist faith.

Mr. Johnson leaves his mother and father, Clora Johnson of Blytheville and Isaac Johnson Jr. of Luxora;

His grandmother, Connie Mhoon of Blytheville;

One son, Tyree Johnson of Blytheville;

Three sisters, Kimberly Johnson of Blytheville and Karen Carter and Katherine Carter, both of St. Louis; and

Four brothers, Isaac Johnson III, Bobby W. Mhoon and Timothy Johnson, all of Blytheville, and Isaac Johnson of St. Louis.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at Wilson Funeral Home Chapel in Blytheville, with the Rev. Sammie Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Garden Cemetery in Blytheville. Active pallbearers will be Allen Stewart Jr. IV, Terrence Stewart, Jeremy Mhoon, Raymond and Adonenus Johnson, Jerry Bledsoe Sr. Daiyell Daniels and Charles B. Marshall. Honorary pallbearers will be Timothy Johnson, Isaac Johnson III, Tyree Johnson, Bobby Mhoon and Isaac Johnson.

The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
