Susan Swift

Susan Swift, 58, longtime Jacksonville resident and civil servant died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2006. She was born on March 25, 1948 to Lee and Jane Groves of Burbank, Calif.
On January 23, 1971 she married Frank Swift in Van Nuys, Calif. They moved to Jacksonville in 1977. She served 27 years in federal civil service after modeling for Max Factor in Hollywood and working as a stewardess for Continental Airlines. She began her federal career with the AF Office of Special Investigations in Alaska. She worked at the Little Rock AFB in the civil Engineering and Supply Squadrons and as the CHAMPUS Advisor at the Base Hospital. More recently, she worked for the Army Corps of engineers in Little Rock, then for the FBI until her retirement in 2004. She was a volunteer with the Spay and Neuter Clinic in Little Rock, and the Jacksonville Public Library.

She is survived by her husband, and a daughter, Michelle Swift of Jacksonville.

Funeral services will be 4 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 28 at Moore’s Jacksonville Funeral Home. Visitation will precede the service beginning at 2 p.m. Arrangements by of Moore’s Jacksonville Funeral Home 982-2136. In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to the Humane Society of Pulaski County.

Dorothy Howard

Dorothy “Dot” Ann Howard, 67, of Jacksonville died Tuesday, September 19, 2006. She worked over 20 years for Maybelline as a Quality Control Inspector.

She was preceded in death by her parents William and Annie Walsh Bolin; husband Norman Howard; and brother William Bolin.

Survivors include her daughter Tracey Curtis Rhodes and Chris of Ward; sons Todd Howard and wife Pam of Cabot; Troy Howard and wife Daniece of Jacksonville; and Tony Howard and Rhoda Sullivan of Jacksonville; and ten grandchildren.

Graveside services were held Friday, Sept. 22, at Arkansas State Veteran’s Cemetery.
Arrangements were by Thomas Funeral Service in Cabot.

Steven Payne

Steven Craig Payne, 54, of Cabot died on Friday, Sept. 22, 2006.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Cary Payne.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Sue Garland Payne of Cabot; daughters Sommer Scarberough and husband Kevin of Cabot, Delilah Payne of Cabot, Rosie Gallagher and husband Jeff of Bremerton, Wash., and Tommie Davidson and husband Philip of Cabot; sons Toby Payne of Cabot, and John Payne and wife Renada of Jacksonville; mother Frances Jane Payne of Cabot; sisters Linda Pankey and husband Hank of Titusville, Fla., Cathy Payne of El Paso, and Cyndi Bell and husband Robert of Broken Arrow, Okla.; brother Danny Payne and wife Donna of Cabot; and 13 grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 26, at Austin Station Baptist Church in Austin, with intermenty following at Arkansas State Veteran’s Cemetery.

Arrangements were by Thomas Funeral Service in Cabot.

William Kuykendall, Jr.

William H. “Hal” “Papaw” Kuykendall, Jr., 72, of Crowley, Texas, formerly of Malvern, died Friday, Sept. 15, 2006. He was retired from Bell Helicopter and was formerly in the National Guard.

He was preceded in death by his parents W.H. and Sylvia Kuykendall; son Terry; sister Juanita; and brother Jimmy.

He is survived by his sons Dean Kuykendall and wife Kristie of Burleson, Texas, and Charles Kuykendall of Crowley, Texas; daughters Debbie Jarvis of Burleson, Texas, and Tammey Strickland and husband Steve of Burleson, Texas; sister Betty Williamson of Cabot; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Sept. 21, in the Atkinson Funeral Home Chapel. Interment was in the Francois Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of Atkinson Funeral Home in Malvern.

Lois Miller

Lois Miller, 85, of Jacksonville died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2006. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Jacksonville.

She was preceded in death by her parents John and Ethel Edwards Sims; husband Walter Miller; and brother Dois Sims.

She is survived by her son Jerry Miller and wife Phyllis of Cabot, Ark.; daughters Linda O’Connell and husband Jim of Oakridge, N.J., and Jane Miller of Jacksonville; sisters Geneva Gotherman, Edna Bunch and husband J.D., both of North Little Rock; brothers Roy Harold Sims and wife Jeanette of North Little Rock, and J.D. Sims and wife Dorothy of Lonoke; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 25, at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Chapel in North Little Rock. Interment was at Rest Hills Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to Susan G. Koman Breast Cancer Foundation, 904 Autumn Road, Little Rock, Ark. 72211.

Arrangements were by Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home.

Benjamin McCabe

Benjamin Clyde McCabe, 73, of Jacksonville died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2006.

He joined the Navy in May of 1951 and was a Korean and Vietnam veteran. He retired from the Navy after 20 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn; daughter Cathy Sue Miller; mother Inez Fowler McCabe; father Asa McCabe; brothers Asa and Alan McCabe; sisters Geraldean Walls and Nadean Miller.

He is survived by his daughters Rita Lynn Honey and husband Terry of Huntsville, Ala., Joyce Andres of Jacksonville, and Sandy Doyle and husband Rodney of Germantown, Ky.; son Steve Graff and wife Cathy of Cabot; son-in-law Tim Miller of Jacksonville; and sister Rita Toal of Conway; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service with full military honors was held Saturday, Sept. 23, at Griffin-Leggett Rest Hills Chapel in North Little Rock.

Flag folding by the U.S. Navy with Gun Salute and Taps performed by the V.F.W. Post 2259 Honor Guard.

Arrangements were by Griffin Leggett Rest Hills Funeral Home.

Herbert W. Brill

Robert W. “Herb” Brill, 75, of Ward died Monday, Sept. 18, 2006. He retired as a Lt. Col. from the U.S. Army after 26 years of service. He served in combat in both the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War and received the Bronze Star.

He was preceded in death by his parents William and Maria Graff Brill.

He is survived by his wife Irene Shaver Brill; sons Herbert W. Brill II of Bakersfield, Calif., Jonathan M. and wife Kay of Little Rock, Christopher Q. and wife Shirley of Greenbrier, and Michael D. Brill and wife Vanessa of Orlando, Fla.; daughters Melanie M. Brill of Orlando, Fla., and Deborah A. Brill of Cabot; ten grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and sister Charlotte Brill of Ward.

Graveside services were held Friday, Sept 22, at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock.

Memorials may be made to U.S. Army Wounded Warrior Program, 200 Stovall Street, Alexandria, Va. 22332.

Arrangements were by the Westbrook Funeral Home in Beebe.

Melvin Eichbrecht

Melvin Charles Wilhelm Eichbrecht, 76, of Ward died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2006. He served 23 years with the U.S. Air Force in hospital administration. He retired as an electrical machine technician for T.R.W. in Little Rock and was a member of Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Searcy.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Maurie Christine Eichbrecht.

Survivors include his wife Theodora Eichbrecht of Ward; children Michael Eichbrecht of Viney Grove, Ky., Claire Wilkinson of Flagstaff, Ariz., and Cyd Simmons of Cabot; sisters Joyce Eichbrecht and Mary Ann Means both of Sterling Heights, Mich.; 10 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; one great-grandson; and three step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Tuesday, Sept. 26, at Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Searcy. Interment followed at Chapel Hill Memorial Park in Jacksonville.

Arrangements were by Moore’s Jacksonville Funeral Home.

David White

David Stanley White, 58, of Cabot died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2006 at his home. He was born on October 24, 1947 to the late William ‘Buster’ and Mae Howerton White in Little Rock. David was the owner and operator of Affordable Custom weed Control.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon White of Cabot; two daughters, one step daughter, two step sons, one sister, 13 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. on Monday at Cabot Funeral Home. The services were 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2006 at the Chapel of Cabot Funeral Home with Rev. James Stanley officiating. Interment followed at Hicks Cemetery in Cabot.

Arrangements are under the direction of Moore’s Cabot Funeral Home.

Joshua R. Givens

Joshua Raymond Givens, age 27, of Carlisle died Sept. 28, 2006. He received his Bachelor’s Degree and Graduate study at Arkansas State University and worked with dedication to Higher Education.

He is survived by a twin brother, Joe Givens of Arkadelphia; his parents, Ricky and Sandra Givens; a sister Sarah Givens; grandparents Robert and Kathern Peoples, Patty and Wayne Waggoner; and great-grandparent Ethel Crane, all of Carlisle. Many close family members and friends also survive him.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Sept. 30, 2 p.m.,at Humnoke Pentecostal Church of God. Burial followed in Hamilton Cemetery, arrangements by Boyd Funeral Home, Lonoke.
