Wanda Jean Frederick
(May 6, 1926 - October 18, 2011)
Mrs. Wanda Jean Heath Frederick, age 85, of Mena, Arkansas, passed away Tuesday, October 18, 2011 in Mena.
She was born May 6, 1926 in Nunley, Arkansas to the late Jim Heath and the late Esther Shirley Heath. She graduated from Mena High School in 1944 and was united in marriage to the late Eugene Dale Frederick on January 13, 1946. She was a preschool teacher by profession, receiving her Associate in Arts Degree in Early Childhood Education in 1971 at San Jose City College in California. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Mena, and was a faithful Bible believing Christian. She worked in the Mena Special School District (1963 – 1966), the Milpitas Recreation Department in California for the Tiny Tot Program (1967 – 1971), was the Director for the Alviso Community Day Care Center (1972 – 1974), and taught at Milpitas Christian Preschool (1974 – 1982). She taught Sunday School and volunteered in numerous church and school activities. After moving back to Mena, she started Little Lamb Christian Preschool in her home in 1988. Mrs. Frederick was also active in the Foster Grandparent Program at Louise Durham Elementary School. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.
She is survived by:
Sons: Mark Frederick of Mena, Arkansas Scott Frederick and wife Yesun “Annie” Park of Bakersfield, California
Daughter: Leslie Ward and husband Gary Ward of Smithville, Oklahoma
Grandchildren: James Frederick, Jennie Ward, Joshua Ward and Joseph Ward
Great- Grandchildren: Ethan and Connor Ward; Elijah & Isaiah Ward, and Katelyn and Jessie Fowler
Many nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her brother Lester Heath and her sister, Ozie Hilton.
Funeral services will be Saturday, October 22, 2011 at 2:00 p. m. at First Christian Church with Brother Gary Garrett officiating. Interment follows in Pinecrest Memorial Park under the direction of the Beasley-Wood funeral Home. A Visitation for family and friends will be Friday evening, October 21st from 6:00 to 8:00 p. m. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Brandon Douglas, Randel Fowler, Rich Mesko, Zach Mesko, Tyler Speer, and Josh Ward. Honorary pallbearers are Tom Earhart, Bill Frederick, James Harmon, Jim Hilton, Woody McCormick, and John Mesko.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Christian charity or church of your choice.

Verdina Henrietta Heath
(March 21, 1918 - October 18, 2011)
Mrs. Verdina Henrietta Heath, age 93, of Mena, Arkansas, passed away Tuesday, October 18, 2011 in Mena.
She was born March 21, 1918 in Pine Ridge, Arkansas to the late Henry Mourton and the late Mary Bedwell Mourton. She was united in marriage to the late O. B. Heath, Jr. on October 11, 1934. She worked at the Renova Shirt Factory and was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Mrs. Heath enjoyed quilting and gardening, but her greatest joy was her family who will miss her dearly. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.
She is survived by:
Son: Sam Heath and wife Kaye of Mena, Arkansas
Son-in-Law: Robert Treece of Red Oak, Texas
10 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Mary Mourton, her husband, O. B. Heath, Jr. two daughters, Odessa Treece and Anna Craig, two sons, Johnny and Buddy Heath, and by a son-in-law, Bon Craig.
Funeral services will be Friday, October 21, 2011 at 2:00 p. m. at the Beasley-Wood Chapel with Brother Buddy Bean officiating. Interment follows in Pinecrest Memorial Park under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. Visitation for family and friends will be Thursday evening, October 20th from 6:00 to 8:00 p. m. at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Scott Jackson, Drake McCauley, Eric Schnell, Todd Craig, Tony Craig, and Travis Craig. Honorary pallbearers are Heath Jackson, Heath Schnell, Jake McCauley, Casey Jackson, Justin Baird, Brandon Craig, Greg Craig, Andrew Schnell and Brody McCauley.

James Edward "Ed" Duke
(April 17, 1934 - October 18, 2011)
Mr. James Edward “Ed” Duke, age 77, of Wickes, Arkansas, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 18, 2011 in Wickes.
He was born April 17, 1934 in Horatio, Arkansas to the late Jessie J. “Jake” Duke and Mildred Whipple Duke. He was united in marriage to the late Tima Lou Cook. He was retired from the United States Army after 27 years of service, serving two tours in Vietnam. He was a member of the Masons of Wickes, the Disabled American Veteran’s and the VFW. Ed was also a devoted member of the Wickes Methodist Church, where he loved to donate his work and his time for anything needed. He was a well liked member of his community, and was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.
He is survived by:
Son: Alton Dilbeck of DeQueen, Arkansas
Daughters: Terrie Brecheisen and husband John of Wickes, Arkansas Karen Duke of El Dorado, Arkansas
Mother: Mildred Duke of Mena, Arkansas
7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his father Jake Duke, his wife Tima Duke, and a son Charles Edward Duke.
Funeral services will be Sunday, October 23, 2011 at 2:00 p. m. at the Wickes Methodist Church with Brother Brian Richardson officiating. Interment follows in Clear Creek Cemetery at Horatio under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. Full military Honors will be rendered by the local veteran’s associations and the United States Army. Visitation will be general.
Pallbearers will be Jon Weldon Rye, Donnie Jewell, Don Youngblood, Jimmie Jewell, and Jimmy Don Welcher. Honorary pallbearers are Weldon Rye, Freddie Cook, Delter Parks, and Jimmy Hunter.

Ethel Rousser
(September 6, 1917 - October 17, 2011)
Ethel Rousser, age 94, of Mena, Arkansas, passed away Monday, October 17, 2011 in Mena.
She was born September 6, 1917 in Iowa Park, Texas to the late Daniel O. Atchley and the late Mildred Hardaway Atchley. She was united in marriage to the late Troy Northcutt until his passing and then to the late Harold Rousser. She was a beautician by profession and was a loving sister, aunt, and friend.
She is survived by:
Brothers: Ben D. Atchley and wife Helen of Shreveport, Louisiana Larry Atchley and wife Jan of Mena, Arkansas Sisters: Mary Alice Leftwich of Ft. Worth, Texas Virginia Vanderlippe and husband George of San Marcos, Texas She was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Mildred Atchley, husband, Troy Northcutt and Harold Rousser, sisters, Minnie Stanley, Edith Arrant, Lilly Wood and Elizabeth Fehrenbach.
Graveside services will be Saturday, October 22, 2011 at 11:00 a. m. at the Mesquite Cemetery in Mesquite, Texas. Local visitation will be general. Arrangements are under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.

Gerald Dean Potter, Jr.
(January 21, 1971 - October 16, 2011)
Mr. Gerald Dean Potter, Jr. age 40, of Hatfield, Arkansas, passed away October 16, 2011 in Hot Springs.
He was born January 21, 1971 in Mena, Arkansas to the late Gerald Potter, Sr. and to Alice Metcalf Potter. He was a loving son, brother, uncle and friend and will be missed by his family and by those who knew him.
He is survived by:
Mother: Alice Potter of Hatfield, Arkansas
Sister: Melissa Matheson and husband Mike of Hatfield, Arkansas
And several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Gerald Potter, Sr., by brothers, Steve Eugene Potter and Thomas Shane Potter, and by a sister, Cheryl Smith.
Mr. Potter was sent for cremation under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. The family will hold a private memorial at a later time.

John Pete Kanna
(March 22, 1922 - October 10, 2011)
John Pete Kanna, age 89, of Mena, Arkansas, passed away Monday, October 10, 2011 in Mena. He was born March 22, 1922 in Vandervoort, Arkansas to the late Pete Kanna and the late Katherine Strink Kanna. He was a logger by profession and was of the Baptist faith. He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend.
He is survived by:
Daughters: Drusilla Atchley and husband James Leroy, Sr. of Greenwood, Arkansas Linda Davis and husband Terry of Mena, Arkansas Kathy Zarate of Ft. Smith, Arkansas June Gibson of Springtown, Texas
Brother: Mitchell Kanna and wife Pat of Wickes, Arkansas
Sister: Mary Manuel of Dallas, Texas
7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Katherine Kanna, a son, John David Kanna, a grandson, James Atchley, Jr., Brothers, George, Sam, Paul and Andy Kanna, and sisters, Ann Lee, and Helen Faris.
Funeral services will be Thursday, October 13, 2011 at 10:00 a. m. at the Beasley-Wood Chapel with Brother Donnie Jewell officiating. Interment follows in Cecil Chapel Cemetery under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. Visitation will be general.

Troy Leon Denton

Troy Leon Denton infant son of Caleb Denton and Kathleen Lorene Chamberlain died Saturday, October 8, 2011at the Mena Regional Health System.
He is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Leon Chamberlain.
Survivors include his parents, Leon Caleb Denton of Mena and Kathleen Chamberlain of Mount Ida; paternal grandparents, Troy and Anna Denton of Mena; paternal great grandparents, Troy J. and Jan Denton of Mena and Juanita Samuel of Ludlow, Oklahoma; paternal great-great grandmother Leona Denton of Zafra, Oklahoma; maternal grandmother Kathy Chamberlain; maternal great grandparents, John and Faye Chamberlain of Pencil Bluff; paternal aunts Kaya, Kylene and Kayla Denton all of Mena; maternal uncles and aunt, Walter Chamberlain and John Chamberlain of Mount Ida and Jesse Chamberlain of DeQueen and Victoria Chamberlain of Mount Ida.
Funeral Services will be Monday, October 10, 2011 at 2:00 P. M. at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mena with Brother Brandon White officiating. Interment will follow in the Gann Cemetery. No visitation is planned.
Pallbearers will be Walter Chamberlain, John Chamberlain, Jesse Chamberlain, Jerry Denton, Raymond Ludlow and Clifford Ludlow.

Helen Bennett Golden
(September 17, 1928 - October 7, 2011)
Helen Bennett Golden, age 83, of Mena, Arkansas, passed away Friday, October 7, 2011 in Hot Springs.
She was born September 17, 1928 in Mena, Arkansas to the late James Burnett and the late Minnie LaRue Burnett. She was united in marriage to Richard Golden in 1997. She was a loving homemaker, wife, mother, step-mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She will be missed by her family and friends who knew and loved her.
She is survived by:
Husband: Richard Golden of Mena, Arkansas
Daughter: Cynde Hampton and husband Fred of Mena, Arkansas
Step-son: Richard Golden, Jr. and wife Agnes of Portland, Oregon
Step-daughters: Jane Herrick and husband Doug of Boulder, Colorado Joanne Golden of Houston, Texas
Grandchildren: Tracy Stephens of Littleton, Colorado Bryan Warrington of Mena, Arkansas Melissa Hampton of Mena, Arkansas Wyn Herrick of Boulder, Colorado Shayna O’Connor of Desert Hot Springs, California
Great-grandchildren: Bethany and Hannah Warrington and Conner and Cailey Stephens
Sister: Mary Lee Faulkner of Mena, Arkansas
Sister-in-Law: Louise “Dusie” Liles of Ft. Smith, Arkansas
And several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Minnie Burnett, her first husband, Hubert “Gub” Bennett”, 4 brothers, Oliver, Harrison, Clarence and J. B. Burnett, and a sister, Vera Trolinger.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at 2:00 p. m. at the First Christian Church in Mena with Brother Gary Garrett officiating. Interment follows in Pinecrest Memorial Park under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. Visitation will be general.
