Ellen Pauline Johnson
Ellen Pauline Johnson, age 77, of Hoxie, died Feb. 14, 2000, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, following a sudden illness.
Born May 17, 1922, at Collinwood, Tenn., she was the daughter of Charlie and Eula Phillips. She moved to Lawrence County in early life and was a member of First Baptist Church in Hoxie.
She was preceded in death by a son, Tommy Johnson; two sisters, Ada Rhea and Gladys McGlothlin; and a brother, Jessie Seel.
Survivors include her husband, J.M. Johnson, whom she married Jan. 12, 1940; two daughters, Geneva Waldrupe, Hoxie, and Paula Binkley, Springerville, Ariz.; five sons, Richard Johnson, Bono, Larry Johnson, Hot Springs, Dale Johnson and Roger Johnson, both of Hoxie, and Junior Briner of Walnut Ridge, whom they raised; two grandsons, Brett Johnson and Josh Johnson; six granddaughters, Shannon Black, Gail Eddens, Crystal Johnson, Melissa Binkley, Seann Johnson and Selena Johnson; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be Thursday afternoon at 2 at Bryan Chapel with Bro. Bob Smith officiating. Burial will be in Lawrence Memorial Park under the direction of Bryan Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Richard Johnson, Larry Johnson, Dale Johnson, Roger Johnson, Brett Johnson and Joshua Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Junior Briner, Jeremy Black, Junior Waldrupe, Howard Fry, John Eddens, Miles Binkley, Jackie Baird, David Baird and Jack Foster.
Visitation will be this evening from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.

Thelma Barthene Taylor
Thelma Barthene Taylor, age 74, of Waterford, Mich., died Jan. 11, 2000, at Lourdes Nursing Home at Waterford, Mich.
Born at Pocahontas, she was self-employed.
Survivors include her husband, Buddie Frank Taylor; a son, Darrell Taylor, Waterford, Mich.; one daughter, Darlene Taylor, Waterford, Mich; seven brothers, Teep Wicker, Milan, Tenn., Theodor Wicker, Brighton, Tenn., Therman Wicker and Truman Wicker, both of Walnut Ridge, Thurshel Wicker, Imboden, Tillman Wicker, Pocahontas, and Truel Wicker, Oxford, Mich.; a sister, Tressie Richardson, Columbiaville, Mich.; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Funeral was Saturday afternoon at 1 at McNabb Chapel in Pocahontas with Don Strait officiating. Burial was in Masonic Cemetery at Pocahontas under the direction of McNabb Funeral Home.

Lois Marine Doyle
Lois Marine Doyle, age 83, of Batesville, died Sept. 11, 2000.
Born Aug. 25, 1917, in Morriston, she was the daughter of Bert and Rosettie Mitchell Bell.
She was a member of the Assembly of God Church at Rosebud.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Albert Birmingham; her second husband, Staten Doyle; her parents, Bert and Rosettie Bell; a sister; and five brothers.
Survivors include two brothers, Hayden Bell, Newark, and A.L. Bell, Saffell; two sisters, Juanita Turner, El Dorado, Kan., and Willene Morse, Saffell.
Funeral was to be this afternoon at 1 at Rosebud Assembly of God Church with Rev. Glen Chadwick officiating.
Burial was to be in Union Cemetery at Saffell under the direction of Batesville Funeral Service.
Pallbearers were to be Wayne Johnson, Billy Saffell, Carl Cook, James Mize, Danny Doyle and Carroll Gene Huskey.

David Eugene Hill
David Eugene Hill, age 61, of Jonesboro, died Oct. 1, 2000, at his home.
Born at Egypt, he lived in Jonesboro for 53 years.
He was retired from the city street department and was a member of the National Guard.
He was of the Baptist belief.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Survivors include his wife, Sibyl Hill; three sons, Donald Hill, Jonesboro, Ronald Hill, Salem, and David Hill Jr., Bono; a daughter, Vivian Combs, Bono; his mother, Mallie Hill, Jonesboro; five brothers, Bill Hill, Randy Hill and Terry Hill, Jonesboro, Buck Hill, Ravenden, and Rick Hill, Bono; four sisters, Sally Noles, Pocahontas, and Patty Tippitt, Kim Staggs and Teresa Hill, all of Jonesboro; and six grandchildren.
Funeral was to be this morning at 10 at Roller-Farmers Union Funeral Home with Danny Elrod officiating.
Burial was to be in Pine Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers were to be Billy McGee, Steve Staggs, James "L.C." Hill, David Combs, Steve Tippitt and Mickey Noles.
Honorary pallbearers were John Collins, Josh Hill and Richard Barton.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Arkansas Children's Hospital.

Bennie Gene Ruth
Bennie Gene Ruth, age 73, of Stamps, died Jan. 26, 2000, at his home.
Born Nov. 5, 1926, in Fort Smith, he was a United Methodist Minister.
He had served in Hoxie and Clover Bend.
While at Hoxie, he oversaw the construction of a new parsonage.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille Craig Ruth; two sons, Ron Ruth, Roland, Okla., and Rick Ruth, Fort Smith; two daughters, Sandy Ruth and Cindy Groce, both of Stamps; a brother, Ralph Ruth, Fort Smith; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral was Jan. 29 at Faith United Methodist Church in Fort Smith.
Burial was in Barling Cemetery.

Earl Bailey
Earl Bailey, age 80, of Beech Grove, died Feb. 14, 2000, due to an automobile accident on Highway 63, three miles south of Imboden.
Born March 22, 1919, at Warm Springs, he was the son of Dewitt and Rhoda Whittenburg Bailey.
He was a retired carpenter and was of the Baptist belief.
He was former owner of Bailey Lumber Company of Walnut Ridge.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nelsie Miller Bailey; a son, J.D. Bailey; two brothers, Claud and Cloyd Bailey; a sister, Notra Bingham; and a great-granddaughter, Anna Myrick.
Survivors include four sons, Boyd Bailey, Walnut Corner, and Carl Bailey, Jerry Bailey and William Bailey, all of Light; three daughters, Marilyn Crafton and Beverly Tedder, both of Walnut Ridge, and Pat Myrick of Stanford; two sisters, Erma Bingham, Lakeland, Fla., and Jewel Wood, Salem; 20 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be Thursday afternoon at Heath Colonial Chapel in Paragould with Rev. Lowell Graham officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery at Walcott under the direction of Heath Funeral Home of Paragould.
Pallbearers will be Tim Myrick, Bobby Tedder II, Junior Hancock, Jeff Fry, Jason Gosha, Greg Bailey, Emanuel Bailey, Thomas Worsham and Tim Clark.
Visitation will be this evening from 6 to 9 at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Lawrence County Cooperative School for Exceptional Children or Mt. Zion Cemetery Fund.

JOHN "JOHNNY" THOMAS
Mr. John "Johnny" Thomas, 61 of Newport, died Friday, May 11, 2001 in Newport.
He was born in Evening Shade on Oct. 24, 1939 the son of Grover and Maxie (Baker) Tomas.

LANGDON MARTIN
Mr. Langdon Martin, 69 of Newport, died Sunday, May 13, 2001 in Jonesboro.
He was born Jan. 23, 1932 the son of Marion Clarence and Elizabeth (Cross) Martin.

WILMA JEAN LANGDON
Mrs. Wilma Jean Langdon, 64 of Harrisburg, died Sunday, May 13 in Jonesboro.
She was born July 2, 1936 in Petit Jean Mountain.
She was the daughter of the late Andy Marple, Sr. and Violet Ballard Marple.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Harrisburg.
She enjoyed going to the Harrisburg Senior Center and home crafts.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.

WILMA RUTH WAGSTER
Mrs. Wilma Ruth Wagster, 71 of Newport, died Tuesday, May 15, 2001 in Little Rock.
She was a homemaker, a member of Diaz Baptist Church and V.F.W. Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Odis Comstock and Sarah Orsborne Comstock.

MYRTLE ALICE RUTLEDGE
Mrs. Myrtle Alice Rutledge, 96 of Batesville, died Saturday, May 12, 2001 in Batesville.
She was born in Newark on May 5, 1905 the daughter of William Manley and Elizabeth (Timmons) Rainwater.

JIMMIE T. BROWN
Mr. Jimmie T. Brown, 81 of Harrisburg, died Saturday, May 12, 2001 in Jonesboro.

RETHA JANE RUSHING
Mrs. Retha Jane Rushing, 87 of Newport, formerly of Fair Mount, Ind., died Sunday, June 24, 2001 in Newport.
She was born in Duffel on Aug. 2, 1913 the daughter of Ruff and Vera Lee (Harris) Ward.
She was a caregiver in nursing homes in Indiana and Arkansas for several years.
Mrs. Rushing was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church in Newport.
She enjoyed quilting and sewing. While raising her family Mrs. Rushing made her family's clothes from her own patterns.
Mrs. Rushing was preceded in death by her husband, Charley James Rushing, on March 6, 1988; one brother, three sisters; and one grandson, John Rushing on July 2, 1999.
She is survived by three sons, James Rushing of Alexandria, Ind., Harold Rushing of Newport and Walter "DoRight" Rushing of Newport; two daughters, Ruby Breedlove of Newport and Betty Neeley of Newport; two brothers, Ed Ward of Bald Knob and William Ward of Michigan; three sisters, Clara (Jack) Gaddis of Weiner, Bertha Hodges of Michigan and Christine Hardin of Michigan; 32 grandchildren; 88 great-grandchildren; and 20 great-great-grandchildren; several extended family members and a wonderful caregiver and special friend, Becky Clark.
Funeral service is 10 a.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Baptist Church in Newport with Rev. Billy Ed Morris officiating.
Interment is in Carter Cemetery in Russell. Visitation is Tuesday from 5-9 p.m.
Pallbearers are Keith Pigg, Danny Pridmore, Charlie McClendon, Jim St. John, Jim O'Dell and Darrell Campbell.
Honorary pallbearers are Brad Allen and John Smith.
Arrangements by Jackson's Newport Funeral Home.

WILLIAM C. NEELY
Mr. William C. Neely, 79 of Algoa Community, Newport, died Monday, Nov. 19, 2001 in Newport.
He was born on Oct. 28, 1922 in Algoa the son of Miles Lee and Mae (Blankenship) Neely.
Mr. Neely was a retired self-employed farmer and a member of the Beedeville Church of Christ.
He was a WWII Air Force Veteran, and a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge #556 in Michigan.
He was a member of the Collier-Massey Post #4683 VFW of Newport and the Neil Griffin Post #47 American Legion of Newport.
Mr. Neely enjoyed fishing and gardening.
He was preceded in death by a wife, Mary Madeline Neely; his parents; two brothers, Miles Neely and Corlis Neely; one sister, Lydia Neely; and one son-in-law, Dale C. Madden, Sr. on March 6, 2000.
Mr. Neely is survived by his wife, Joyce (Hicks) Neely of Algoa Community; three daughters, Olivia Winemiller of Newport, Pauletta Madden of Beedeville and Sandra Jones and husband Dorsey of Dezeres, Texas; eight grandchildren, Jimmy Don Winemiller, Jr., Michael Winemiller, Tammy (Winemiller) Sanders, Suzanne Madden Hutchinson, Ronda Madden Lewis, Dale Madden, Jr., Mary Anna Jones and Dorsey Jones, Jr.; eight great-grandchildren; one step-daughter, Sara Kelly; one step-son, Ronald Graves; four step-grandchildren; and wonderful caregivers, sister-in-law Ruth White, Charlotte Herndon and Rosalie Burgess.
Funeral service is 2 p.m. Friday at Beedeville Church of Christ with Mr. Paul Evins officiating. Interment was in Eightmile Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Jimmy Don Winemiller, Jr., Michael Winemiller, Dale Madden, Jr., Dorsey Madden, Jr., Bruce Guinn, Cory Reynolds, Shane Hutchinson, Mitch Lewis, David Sanders, Trae Lewis and Trey Winemiller. Honorary pallbearers are Jerry Mann, Raymond Shelly, Buck Snyder, J.D. White, Otis Reynolds and Glenn Dunham.
