Mrs. Linnie Lorene Vance Brizendine

Linnie Lorene Vance Brizendine, age 78, a resident of De Queen, died Monday, July 2, 2007 in the De Queen Medical Center.

She was born May 31, 1929 in Horatio to R.H. and Fannie Mae Vance. She was retired from Lane Poultry, was a homemaker and member of the First Pentecostal Church in De Queen.

Mrs. Brizendine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Henry Clay Brizendine; one daughter, Maxine Schiffman; and two sons, Joe Dale Brizendine and Donald Brizendine.

She is survived by six sons, Richard Brizendine of Odessa, Texas, Billy Brizendine of De Queen, Robert Brizendine of Broken Bow, Oklahoma, Randy Brizendine of De Queen, George Brizendine of Glenwood, and Roger Brizendine of De Queen; one daughter, Barbara Sierra of Gillham; one brother, Renzer “Ringo” Vance of De Queen; one sister, Mattie Jean Conatser of Oklahoma; 26 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Brizendine will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, July 5, 2007 in the First Pentecostal Church in De Queen with Rev. J.C. Seward officiating. Burial will follow in the Avon Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 4th at the funeral home.

Mr. Thomas J. Humphrey

Mr. Thomas J. Humphrey, age 70, a resident of Winthrop, Arkansas, died Saturday, June 30, 2007 in the Wadley Regional Medical Center.

He was born October 11, 1936 in Kansas City, Missouri to Orville E. and Virgie Carver Humphrey. He was retired U.S. Army Warrant officer. He was a Christian.

Mr. Humphrey was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Cleora Van Winkle.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Marietta Humphrey; two sons and daughters-in-law, Terrence and Debbie Humphrey of Foreman and Orville L. and Emily Humphrey of Tucson, AZ; six grandchildren, Brandon and wife, Nicki, Erica, Tyler, Savannah, Sabrah and Alexander, and various nieces, nephews and in-laws.

Graveside Funeral Services with military honors will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 5, 2007 in the Pauley Cemetery in Winthrop with Scotty Smith officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 4th at the funeral home.

Mr. Alfred Williamson

Mr. Alfred Williamson, age 84, resident of Horatio, Arkansas, died in the De Queen Medical Center.

He was born to Thomas Gilson and Vervan Kite Williamson at Horatio, Arkansas, on September 8, 1922. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U. S. Army, and was retired from Red River Army Depot. He was an active member of the Williamson Community Church, and was a 32degree Mason in the Sweet Home Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed gardening, trapping, hunting, and fishing.

He is survived by his wife of over 61 years, Doris Clark Williamson of Horatio, two sons and daughter-in-law, Alfred Ray “Bud” Williamson of Jacksonville, Fla., and Paul and Deborah Williamson of Southam, England, four daughters and sons-in-law, Doris Jean and Arthur Schaffer of Dallas, Texas, Ellen Vanessa and Sam Harris of De Queen, Sandra Louise and Bob Edgin of Horatio, and Brenda Kay and Mark Chiarizio of Ashdown, Arkansas; one sister, Florence Banning of Pawnee, Okla., six grandsons, Kenneth Harris of Yelm, Washington, Ethan Williamson of Southam, England, Andrew Edgin and David Edgin both of Conway, Ark.; Matthew Chiarizio of Gainsville, Fla, Brian Chiarizio of Amsterdam, the Netherlands, one granddaughter, Allison Chiarizio Lord of Garland, Texas, and four great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Alfred Williamson will be held at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 3, 2007, in the Williamson Community Church with Rev. Jimmy Roden officiating. Burial will follow in the Clear Creek Cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen, Ark. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, July 1st from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the Williamson Community Church, 547 Central Road, Horatio, Arkansas.

Mrs. Ima Jean Walker

Mrs. Ima Jean Kitchens Walker, age 77, resident of De Queen, Arkansas, died Thursday, June 28, 2007 at her home.

She was born to Clarence and Bertha Mae Kitchens at De Queen, Arkansas, on May 27, 1930. She was a retired beautician as well as a homemaker. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary for many years.

She was preceded in death by the parents, her twin sister, Bobbie Jean Reese in 1982, and a son, Ricky Walker in 2002.

She is survived by her husband of over 61 years, Floyd E. Walker of De Queen, two daughters and sons-in-law, Floy Jean and Joe Driscoll of Ocean City, New Jersey, and Melinda K. and Scotty Bryles of White Hall, Ark. five grandchildren, Damien Heffern of Pittsburgh, PA, Heather and her husband, Tal Beasley of Germany, Eric Walker of Barnesville, Georgia, Andy Craig and Daniel Craig both of White Hall, Ark; her husband's family, her father-in-law, Earl Mangold of De Queen, sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Hoover of Little Rock, Ark.; Jenny Langtry of Tuscon, Az, and Betty and her husband, Thomas Lutz of De Queen, brother-in-law, Bo and his wife, Gail Walker of De Queen, and a number of nieces and nephews, as well as other family members and a host of friends.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Ima Jean Walker will be held at 10:00 Tuesday, July 3, 2007 in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro J.L. Walker officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Ida Cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. Visitation will begin Monday, July 2 and the family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 until 8:00pm. The Family Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 10411 W. Markam St., Suite 130, Little Rock, Arkansas 72201.

Mrs. LeeJoy Alice Slaton Evans

Mrs. LeeJoy Alice Slaton Evans, age 84, a resident of De Queen, AR, died Sunday, June 24, 2007 in De Queen.

She was born May 26, 1923 in Chicago, IL to Joel Hollis and Wilma Clara Scott Slaton. She was a retired factory worker and a Baptist.

Mrs. Evans was preceded in death by her husband Walter Evans.

She is survived by one son, Walter Evans of De Queen, AR; one daughter Joyce Evans of De Queen, AR; two grandchildren; one sister Fredia Chapman of De Queen, AR and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside Funeral Services for Mrs. Evans will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, 2007 in the Old Town Cemetery in Tuskahoma, OK under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen, AR.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, June 25, 2007 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Verda May Johnson Jester

Mrs. Verda May Johnson Jester, age 102, a resident of Dierks, AR, died Saturday, June 23, 2007 at her home.

She was born March 12, 1905 in Norman, AR to William and Julia Holland Johnson. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Dierks, AR.

Mrs. Jester was preceded in death by her husband Curtis Jester on May 30, 1993, one son, William Jester, a son-in-law, John D. Krantz and two great grandchildren.

She is survived by two daughters, Betty Lacefield of DeQueen, AR and Ruby Krantz of Dierks, AR; eight grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren and twenty-one great great grandchildren.

Graveside Funeral Services for Mrs. Jester will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 25, 2007 in the Dierks, Cemetery with Rev. Jimmy Jester and Rev. Sheldon Riley officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, June 24 at the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel in Dierks

Mr. Talbert Grant

Mr. Talbert Lavell Grant, age 38, resident of De Queen, Arkansas, died Saturday, June 16, 2007 in the University of Arkansas Medical Center, Little Rock, Arkansas.

He was born to Joe Fields and Mary E. Grant at Mansfield, Louisiana, on December 7, 1968. He was a construction worker, and was a former cook for Betty Joe’s. He was a member of the Lewis Temple Church of God In Christ, and enjoyed playing board games and sports.

He is survived by one son, Demarcus Green of US Army, North Carolina, three daughters, Erica Grant of Bowie, Texas, Tabresha Grant, and Sadrica Thomas both of Mansfield, La., one step-daughter, Artissa Green of Mansfield, La.; his father, Joe Fields of hreveport, la.; his mother, Mary Grant of De Queen, eight brothers, Kevin Grant of Broken Bow, Okla.; Rev. Patrick Grant, Shun Grant, and Greg Grant all of De Queen, Ark.; Gerard Thomas of Mansfield, La.; Terrence Fields and Trevis Fields of Shreveport, La.; and Troy Fields of Dallas, Texas; three sisters, Kelly Fields of Shreveport, La. Twana Jackson of Greenwood, La.; and Loretta Grant of Mansfield, La.; one grandchild, J. J. and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Talbert Grant will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, June 23rd in the Lewis Temple Church of God in Christ, De Queen with Rev. Patrick Grant and Rev. E. A. Edwards fficiating. Burial will follow in the Sand Hill Cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. Visitation will begin Friday, June 22nd, and the family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Friday, June 22nd.

Mr. Fred Cecil Cox

Fred Cecil Cox, age 87, a resident of Lockesburg, AR died Saturday, June 16, 2007 at his home.

He was born February, 29 1920 in Provo, AR to Lee and Clara Bolland Cox. He was a store owner, a farmer, an Army Air Force veteran during WWII, and a member of the McHorse Missionary Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Edna Pauline Jones Cox in 1993.

He is survived by two sons, Fred Cox, Jr. of Lockesburg, AR, and Billy Paul Cox of Conway, AR; a daughter, Carolyn Wheeler of Murfreesboro, AR; two grandsons, Chris Wheeler and Jonathan Wheeler; 2 granddaughters, Elizabeth Renten and Christina Adams; two great-granddaughters, Michaela Green and Sarabeth Wheeler.

Funeral Services for Mr. Cox will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2007 in the McHorse Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Larry Fry officiating. Burial will follow in the McHorse Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, June 18, 2007 at the funeral home in dierks.
