Alicia L. Leavenworth

Private family services were held for Cottonwood resident Alicia L. Brower Leavenworth

Mrs. Leavenworth died Jan. 25, 2000.

She was 67 years old.

Mrs. Leavenworth was born in Jennings Lodge, Ore. April 19, 1931.

She grew up in Brightwood Oregon on Mount Hood where she attended Canby Union High School.

She was in the first graduating class of North Marion High School in the Aurora Canby area of Oregon.

Mrs. Leavenworth met her husband Charles Leavenworth when he mistook her for her twin sister, Patricia on a bus in Portland, Ore.

They were later married Jan. 20, 1952 in Butteville, Ore.

Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Charles; five children, Aletha Ewing of Portland, Sharon Leavenworth and Judy Grover of Cottonwood, Patty Reeve of California and David Leavenworth of California; two brothers, Lin Brower of Cottonwood and John Brower of Florida; 10 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

She was predeceased by two sons, Charles Roger Leavenworth and Jerry Allen Leavenworth.

Philip Frank Weir

Verde Village resident and U.S. Army veteran Philip Weir died Jan. 28, 2000.

He was 80 years old.

Mr. Weir was born Oct. 1, 1919, in Pyrites, N.Y.

A Cottonwood resident since 1981, Mr. Weir retired from his career with a paper manufacturing company in International Falls, Minn.

Mr. Weir was a veteran of World War II.

He served in Battery B 451st, Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion.

He received the Bronze Service Arrowhead, the Good Conduct Medal, and the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Service Medal.

Mr. Weir received the Purple Heart after he was wounded in the Mediterranean Theater.

He was a member and past exalted ruler of the B.P.O.E. Jerome Lodge #1361, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was an active member of St. Thomas of the Valley Episcopal Church.

Mr. Weir was an avid fisherman and hunter.

Survivors include three daughters, Kathlyn J. Haider of Minnesota, Marilyn N. Borell of Anchorage and Susan J. Weir of Minnesota; a son-in-law, Steve Borell; two sisters, Marion Obrien, Beverly Lintala; two brothers-in-law, Floyd Obrien and Ray Lintala; a brother, Robert Hagen of Minnesota; a sister-in-law, Marilee Hagen; two grandsons, Stephen P. Weir of Minnesota and Peter Howard of Dallas; a granddaughter, Christine Howard of Texas and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Weir's wife Betty Ann preceded him in death February 24, 1999.

A memorial service is scheduled Saturday, 11:30 a.m. in St. Thomas of the Valley Episcopal Church in Clarkdale.

Derk Manley will conduct the service.

A reception will follow at the Jerome Elks Lodge in Clarkdale.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Thomas of the Valley Episcopal Church 9th Street, Clarkdale 86324 or Northern Arizona Hospice 296 S. Candy Lane, Cottonwood 86326.

Orville J. Kreiser

Private family services were held for Lake Montezuma resident Orville Kreiser.

Mr. Kreiser died Jan. 30, 2000.

He was 76 years old.

Mr. Kreiser was born Nov. 8, 1923, in Detroit, Mich.

A businessman, Mr. Kreiser owned a plumbing business and was a real estate broker in California.

He also owned and operated liquor stores in California and Arizona.

He was married to his wife Luella for 55 years and is remembered as a wonderful and loving husband and father.

Mr. Kreiser was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II and served as a pharmacist's mate on the USS Monterey.

His hobbies included playing golf.

Survivors include his wife Luella; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael O. Kreiser and Marilyn K. Kreiser of California; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen L. Garcia and Peter F. Garcia of Tucson; four grandsons, Jeffrey and John Kreiser of California, Michael Garcia of Africa and Thomas Garcia of Tucson; a great-grandson, Jacob Kreiser and a great-granddaughter, Brooke Kreiser of Bullhead City; two brothers, Elmer Kreiser of Florida and Kenneth Kreiser of California.

Ruth E. Steinhagen

A rosary is scheduled for Cottonwood resident Ruth Steinhagen beginning at 2 p.m. on Wednesday in St. Cecilia's Mission Catholic Church.

A visitation is scheduled in the Westcott Funeral Home from 3 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday.

Mrs. Steinhagen died Jan 31, 2000.

A funeral Mass is scheduled for Thursday at 10 a.m. followed with a burial in the Valley View Cemetery.

Mrs. Steinhagen was an active member of the Elks Ladies of the Elks Lodge in Clarkdale.

She was a member of St. Cecilia's Mission Catholic Church.

Mrs. Steinhagen is survived by her husband Lawrence "Bud" Steinhagen; five nephews, Paul Lauff, Sr. of Cottonwood, Thomas Steinhagen of Tucson, Bill Steinhagen of Wisconsin, Dick and Lawrence Steinhagen of Illinois and three nieces.

Flowers are not requested but memorial donations may be made to the Northern Arizona Hospice, 269 S. Candy Lane, Cottonwood, 86326.

Claude E. Burris

Services for Cottonwood resident Claude Emerson Burris are scheduled for Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Cottonwood.

Mr. Burris died Jan. 31, 2000.

He was 74 years old.

He was born May 8, 1925, in Walla Walla, Wash., and was retired from the state of Arizona.

Mr. Burris was a bishop, patriarch and member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He was a World War II veteran, a graduate of Arizona State University, and a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Mr. Burris was devoted to his family and God.

He leaves his wife Reva M. Burris; two daughters and sons-in-law, Janyne and Rodney Brimhall of Prescott, and Debbie and Chuck Welly of Cottonwood; two sons and daughters-in-law, Claude Jr. and Lana Burris of Gilbert, and Bill and Becky Burris of Flagstaff, another son, John Burris of California; a sister Doris Kohls of El Paso; 20 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will begin at 9 a.m., followed by funeral services at 10 a.m.

The graveside service is at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Mountain View Cemetery in Prescott.

Westcott Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Ivan Seeley

Ivan Seeley of Cottonwood died Jan. 31, 2000.

He was 84 years old.

Mr. Seeley was born Aug. 20, 1915, in Bath, Mich.

Ivan was a quiet man who enjoyed working with his hands.

He crafted many wood items, which he enjoyed giving to family and friends he made during his life's journey.

He also had great mechanical skills and was able to fix just about anything.

Mr. Seeley enjoyed visiting his family wherever they lived and sharing his time and talents with each one.

His love of cars was shown by his fixing up classic cars, which he loved to show and shared with friends and family.

He loved his family and was proud of each one.

He shared his love with his wife Charlotte for 34 years and will be greatly missed by her and all his family and friends.

Ivan was one of the last survivors of the Bath School disaster of 1927.

He was preceded in death by his son James Seeley.

Survivors include his wife Charlotte; four sons, Raymond and his wife Joan Seeley of Bath, Mich., Jack Many of California, Gerald Many of Alabama and Jan Many of Phoenix; seven daughters, Barbara and husband Marvin Penner of Florida, Joanne Hovey of Michigan, Bonnie Miller of Nevada, Evelyn and husband Glen Richardson of Texas, Lorraine Renfro of North Carolina, Janice Hoffbauer of Cottonwood and Louise Thompson of Mississippi; 38 grandchildren and 47 great-grandchildren.

Private cremation services were held at Wakelin Bradshaw Crematory in Prescott Valley.

Private family burial will take place at Memorial Gardens in Lansing, Mich.

William T. Kiehl

Memorial services for William Kiehl are scheduled for Saturday at the First Southern Baptist Church in Camp Verde beginning at 2 p.m.

Mr. Kiehl died Jan. 31, 2000.

He was 71 years old.

He was born July 26, 1928, in Herminie, Penn.

He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and was retired as a crew chief with the Salt River Project.

Mr. Kiehl was a member of the Southern Baptist Church of Camp Verde.

Survivors include his wife Patricia "Patty" Kiehl; daughters Jan Dee Haag of Colorado Springs, Pama Lee Tucker of Phoenix, and Jennifer Ann Kiehl of Phoenix; sisters Jean Ray and Jackie Smayda of Pennsylvania; and four grandchildren.
