Sally Dunagan
Vonne "Sally" Hinton Dunagan, 79, passed away December 4, 1998 at her home in Hurricane, Utah. She was born March 30, 1919 in Hurricane, Utah, a daughter of James Maurice and Cleesa Cox Hinton. She married George Monroe Dunagan, Jr. June 12, 1943 in California. He died December 25, 1995.
Sally was reared and educated in Hurricane and graduated from Hurricane High School. She worked for a while at the trading post in Tuba City, AZ and later at Scholzens in Hurricane. She went to California, where she took care of children for Ralph Peterson, a radio personality and Wallace Berry, a movie star. she worked for Douglas Air Craft as a riviter, where she met her husband, George. After her marriage she traveled the country with her husband, until he went overseas with the military during which time she worked in the movies. After the war, they moved to his family cattle ranch in Animas, New Mexico. They moved to Douglas, AZ where they lived until his death. Sally came to stay with her brother, Lavar and his wife Leora Hinton in October of 1998.
She is survived by four brothers, A. Lavar (wife, Leora) Hinton, Glendon M. Hinton, Antone (wife, Norene) Hinton, all of Hurricane and Orvan D. (wife, Marlene) Hinton of St. George; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by sister-in-law, Irma Hinton and brother, Dale Hinton.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, December 8, 1998 at 11 a.m. in the Hurricane City Cemetery. Friends called Tuesday morning from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at Spilsbury & Beard Mortuary, 2600 South State Street in Hurricane.
James Edward Foppe
Mr. James Edward Foppe of Douglas died December 4, 1998 at the Southeast Arizona Medical Center.
Mr. Foppe was born May 2, 1932 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He served in the U.S. Air Force receiving his honorable discharge January 23, 1956. On August 30, 1958 he married Maria A. Roqueni. He also worked at the Phelps Dodge Smelter for many years after which he also worked as custodian for the Douglas Unified School District. Mr. Foppe was an active member of St. Luke's Church and the St. Vincent De Paul Society. He was also a member of the American Legion. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clement J. and Eugenie Foppe; brother, Richard Foppe; sisters Dorothy McDonald and Mildred Pandolph.
Surviving are his wife, Maria A. Foppe of Douglas; son, Charles E. Foppe of Tucson; sisters, Alice (Charles) Brafford of Cincinnati, Sister Mary Jean Foppe RSM and Sister Charlotte Marie Foppe RSM of Cincinnati; twin brother, William (Marie) Foppe of Cincinnati. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
A rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. today at Brown Page Mortuary Chapel. A funeral Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Luke's Church with Father bob Carney officiating. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery
in Pirtleville with military graveside services by the American Legion and VFW.
Pallbearers who will serve are Arturo Cloud, Isidoro Cabarga, Jose Cabarga, Antonio Cabarga, Tony Bamonte and Quintin Cabarga.

Patricia 'Pat' Mary Hagen
Patricia (Pat) Mary Hagen of Rodeo, died December 3, 1998 in Tucson, Arizona.
Hagen and her husband Theodore ranched in the Cienega Ranch in Hidalgo County. She was a certified nurse practitioner and served as Hidalgo County public health nurse in 1989. Since 1989, Pat worked in OB/GYN public clinics at the Cochise County Health Department in Douglas and Southwestern New Mexico in Hidalgo, Luna, Sierra and Catron Counties.
Hagen was active in the New Mewxico Cattle Growers' Association, Hidalgo County Cattle Growers' Association, and the Tabosa Belles.
Hagen was born in Gridley, California on December 2, 1938 and married Theodore A. Hagen on November 11, 1959. She earned an Associate of Science degree and became a Registered Nurse at Sacramento City College. She later earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Phoenix. She became a Certified Nurse Practitioner in 1978.
Hagen is survived by her husband Lt. Col. Theodore A. Hagen, USAF retired; her daughter Lynda Suzanne Hagen (Vaissiere) and son-in-law Bernard Vaissiere of Caumont-sur-Durance France; daughter Deborah Ann Hagen (Lubars) and son-in-law Mitch Lubars of Austin Texas; grandchildren Joseph Patrick Lubars, Brian Theodore Lubars and Juliette Emily Vaisierre; her mother; Maxine Dodge of California; her sisters Elaine Miles and Rose Dearth of California; and her brothers Arthur, Daniel and Norman Dodge.
Hagen was buried in her childhood hometown of Live Oak, California, next to her daughter Karen Lynn Hagen, who preceded her in death.

Juan Nieblas Cruz
Juan Nieblas Cruz, born August 14, 1950 in Agua Prieta, Sonora, a resident of Arizona for the past 43 years, was killed while he was investigating a crash which occurred on I-10 in Tucson when a car plowed into the back of Cruz's parked patrol car.
He attended local schools and received his associate's degree from Cochise College. He joined the Arizona Department of Public Safety in 1982.
Mr. Cruz was preceded in death by his father, Valentin Cruz in 1991.
He is survived by his mother, Amelia Cruz of Pirtleville; his fiancee, Diane Leon; children, Celina (Raymond) Aguilar, Marissa (Troy) Long, Cynthia Cruz, Juan Cruz Jr. and Lisa Cruz; grandchildren, Monica and Michael Long; sister, Amelia (Javier) Fimbres; brothers, Richard, Jesus, Joe, Leandro, Frank (Emma), Armando (Veronica) and Carlos (Lydia) Cruz. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
A rosary service will be held today at 7 p.m. at St. Luke's Church. A funeral Mass will be offered at 1 p.m. on Saturday also at St. Luke's Church with Father Bob Carney officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Willis J. Gertsch, Ph.D
Dr. Willis J. Gertsch died Saturday, December 12, 1998 in Tucson.
He was born October 4, 1906 in Montpelier, Idaho. Dr. Gertsch served as Curator in the Department of Insects and Spiders, American Museum of Natural History in New York City for over 35 years. He was the author of books and numerous scientific publications dealing with spiders and their relatives.
After he retired from the museum, he and his wife, Jean, moved to Portal, Arizona where he continued his lifetime work on spiders. He and Jean also had a home in Douglas. For the last three years Dr. Gertsch has been a resident of Life Care Center in Tucson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Gertsch in 1993. He is survived by daughters, Louise Hil of Silver Spring, Maryland and Mary Smallhouse of Redington, Arizona and a son, John Gertsch of New York.
Also surviving are his grandchildren: Lisa, Elizabeth, Tina, Andrew and Julie.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Calvary Cemetery
with Reverend Oscar Olivares of the First Presbyterian Church officiating.

Ernestina V. Sierra
Mrs. Ernestina V. Sierra of Douglas died Monday, December 14, 1998 at the Tucson Medical Center.
Mrs. Sierra was born November 3, 1909 in El Tigre, Sonora, Mexico. She has been an Arizona resident for the past 71 years. She was a member of St. Luke's Church.
Mrs. Sierra is survived by her husband of 71 years Manuel R. Sierra; five daughters, Alicia (Victor) S. Gulliver, Carmen Sierra, Loly Sierra, Julie (Johnny) Montelongo and Josefina Sierra all of Douglas; sons Raul Sierra of Douglas, Francisco (Bertha) Sierra of Tucson, Tony (Luz Maria) Sierra of Douglas and Hector (Lupe) Sierra of San Manuel; sisters Socorro Martinez, Carlota Vasquez, Elvira Vasquez and Adela Christiansen; brother, Jesus Vasquez.
Also surviving are numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
A rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday at Brown Page Mortuary Chapel. A funeral Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. on Friday at St. Luke's Church with Father Jim Hobert officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Aurelia Torres Perez
Aurelia Torres Perez passed away at her home on Thursday, December 17, 1998 in Douglas, Arizona. She was born in Bacerac, Sonora on November 11, 1919. She had resided in Douglas, Arizona since 1946. Aurelia will be remembered for her hard work in the workplace, her home and throughout various organizations within Immaculate Conception Church. Aurelia was a devoted mother to her two daughters and son. She was employed as housekeeper at the Douglas Hospital and retired as housekeeper from the Southeast Arizona Medical Center.
As a member of Immaculate Conception Church she was active in the Altar Society and Vela Perpetua. She was also a member of the Sociedad Mutualista de Obreros Mexicanos. She will be dearly missed by her children, family and friends.
She is survived her son, Henry (Ceci) D. Perez of Douglas; daughters Alma (Ed) Pacheco of Phoenix and Dr. Ana Celia (Jose Manuel) Gomez del Castillo of Phoenix. In addition to her children, she is survived by her sister Jovita Torres Enriquez of Bacerac, Sonora who was her primary caregiver during the last three years.
Aurelia is also survived by two brothers, Luciano Torres Enriquez of Bacerac, Sonora and Monsignor Arturo Torres Enriquez of Hermosillo, Sonora; and a sister, Maria Torres Zerega of Bacarac, Sonora. She was preceded in death by her brother Alfredo Torres Enriquez in 1988. Aurelia had nineteen nieces and nephews who between them have 49 children.
A rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday, December 18, 1998 at Immaculate Conception Church. A funeral Mass will be offered at 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 19, 1998 at Immaculate Conception Church with Father Luis N. Chavez officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
Pallbearers who will serve are Henry D. Perez, Ed Pacheco, Jose Manuel Gomez del Castillo, Esteban Torres Enriquez, Ezequiel Torres Enriquez, and Dr. Heberto Molina. Enriqueta Valenzuela
Mrs. Enriqueta Valenzuela of Douglas passed away December 16, 1998 at the home of her daughter in Tucson.
Mrs. Valenzuela was born September 30, 1920 in Pilares, Sonora, Mexico. She has been a local resident for over 30 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Reducindo Valenzuela in 1987, sons; Ramon and Medardo Valenzuela and a grandson, Cesar Aguilar.
Surviving are her daughters, Dora Castro, Paty Orosco and Leticia Garcia of Tucson and Ofelia Morales and Lupita Aguilar of Douglas; sons, Fausto, Leoncio, Edmundo, Guillermo and Jose Luis Valenzuela of Douglas and Martin Antonio Valenzuela of Phoenix; brother, Juan Antonio Hoyos of Douglas. Also surviving are 32 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. today at Brown Page Mortuary Chapel. A funeral Mass will be offered at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at immaculate Conception Church with Father Luis N. Chavez officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Memorial park.
Pallbearers who will serve are her sons, Fausto, Leoncio, Edmundo, Guillermo, Jose Luis and Martin Antonio Valenzuela. Honorary pallbearers will be all her grandchildren.

Marion A. Pierce
Mrs. Marion A. Pierce of Douglas, died December 14, 1998 at the Southeast Arizona Medical Center.
Mrs. Pierce was born January 18, 1953 in Norfolk, Virginia. She worked as a teachers aid for the Douglas Unified School District for the past 9 years until her disability in April 1998 required her to suspend her duties. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church.
Mrs. Pierce is survived by her daughters, Chanda Y. Pierce and Rena I. Pierce of Douglas; sons, Harold F. Pierce and Nicholas S. Pierce nelson also of Douglas; her parents, Kemp and Annette Harris of Beverly, New Jersey; sisters, Jane A. Harris, Jeannette Brown, Louisa P. Lundquist, Crystal Harris and Odette Harris; brothers, Robert A. Harris, Kenneth Harris and Kemp T. Harris, Jr.
Also surviving are her three grandchildren Tiffany M. Pierce, Steven A. Washington, and Lyana M. Pierce Bess.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, December 22, 1998 at 11 a.m. at the First Assembly of God Church, 1400 13th Street with Pastor Dan Morales officiating.
Following her services she was cremated.

Alice Margaret White
Mrs. Alice Margaret White of Douglas died at her home November 6, 1998.
Mrs. White was born January 2, 1922 in Moulmein, Karenia, Burma to missionary parents, Chester Leroy and Alice Glazer Klein. Mrs. White served in the WAVES in the U.S. Navy during WWII. She also received her Masters Degree from St. Mary's in San Antonio Texas in special education. She was a teacher, having taught in California, Texas, Virginia, and in Douglas before her retirement. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Surviving is her husband, Albert Leroy White of Douglas; daughter, Juanita White Palhegyi of Douglas; sons, Earle Eugene White, Gerald Leroy White and Henry Martin White; brothers, Chester Leroy Klein and Harold Klein.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Klein Doyle. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. today at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with Bishop Donald Huish conducting. Burial followed at Calvary Cemetery.
Pallbearers who served were Henry White, Glen Palhegyi, Jerry White, Gene Palhegyi, Michael White and Donald Palhegyi.
Honorary pallbearers were Earle White, Ivan Huish, Felton White, Leonard Haymore, Tom Highland and Melvin Turley.

Manuel A. Lopez
Mr. Manuel A. Lopez of Douglas died Monday, November 30, 1998 at the Southeast Arizona Medical Center.
Mr. Lopez was born March 25, 1925 in Bisbee, Arizona. He was a laborer working in construction until his retirement in 1987. He belonged to the Laborers Union.
Surviving are his wife, Teresa Hernandez Lopez of Douglas; daughter Olga (Humberto) Machado of Agua Prieta; sons Adalberto (Evangelina) Lopez and Alejandro (Elvia) Elias of Agua Prieta, Sonora and Enrique (Sara) Lopez, Ernesto (Patricia) Lopez and Marco Antonio (Guadalupe) Elias of Douglas. Also surviving are 23 grandchildren, 1 great-granddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews.
A rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. today at Brown Page Mortuary Chapel. A funeral Mass will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Church with Father Luis N. Chavez officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Cipriana Arvizu Romero
Cipriana Arvizu Romero of Douglas, died December 26, 1998 at the Southeast Arizona Medical Center.
Mrs.. Romero was born September 28, 1916 in Bowie, Arizona. She has been a resident of Douglas most of her life recently was a resident at the South Wing of Southeast Arizona Medical Center.
She was preceded in death by her son, Lorenzo Tovarez in 1957, sisters, Esther Moreno in 1998, Josefina Trinidad in 1997, sister-in-law, Isabel Arvizu and brother-in-law, Francisco Sanchez in 1998.
Mrs. Romero is survived by her children, Ralph Tovarez, Gabriel (Amelia) Tovarez, Miguel (Guadalupe) Tovarez, Jose Luis Romero and Enrique Romero all of Tucson and Carmen (Rachel) Romero of San Jose, Ca., Rosa Delia (Angel) Rojas and Hermelinda (Arturo) Rojas of Douglas; sisters Maria Marcos Sanchez of Tucson and Ana (Carlos) Rodriguez of Deming, NM; brother, Ricardo Arvizu of Agua Prieta, Sonora.
Also surviving are 25 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. A family service will be held at 4:30 p.m. today at Brown Page Chapel. Rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Church. A funeral Mass will be offered at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Church with Father Luis N. Chavez officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Faires O. Presnall
Faires O. Presnall, former resident of Douglas, died October 1, 1998 in Prescott, Arizona.
He was born March 3, 1907 on a farm in Whitt, Texas. He lived in Douglas, Arizona in the early 1940s. He worked for El Paso Gas until his retirement in 1971, when he moved back to Douglas, AZ. He moved to Prescott, Arizona in July of 1997 to be near his son Larry. He was in the Las Fuentes Nursing Home when he died.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dora, who resides in Prescott, Arizona. he is also survived by his son Ray (Karen) Presnall of Mesa, Arizona; son Larry (Carol) Presnall of Prescott, Arizona and son John (Jackie) Presnall. He is survived by six grandchildren: Dawn Marie, Ray Dale, Adam, Blake, Sherry and Jamie, plus three great-grandchildren. He was a faithful member of the Church of Christ all his life.
Services are to be held on October 3, 1998 at the Memory Chapel, 131 Grove Ave, Prescott, Arizona.
