William R. Hamer

William R. Hamer died Sunday, Nov. 22, 1998 in Kingman. He was 93.

Mr. Hamer was born Sept. 1, 1905 in New York City. He moved from New York to Dolan Springs, Arizona 19 years ago and was a stock trader on Wall Street.

Mr. Hamer is survived by: his wife, Mary Hamer, of Dolan Springs; two daughters, Lois Hughes, of Lusby, Md. and Patty Maioriello, of East Stroudsburg, Penn.; seven grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

Visitation for Mr. Hamer will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, 1998 followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. at Sutton Memorial Funeral Home. Sutton Crematory is handling cremation.

The family has asked that memorial donations for Mr. Hamer be made to the Kingman Regional Medical Center Foundation, 3269 Stockton Hill Road, Kingman, Ariz. 86401.

Fred West

Fred West died Monday, Nov. 23, 1998 in Kingman. He was 81.

Mr. West was born Feb. 20, 1917 in Hamelin, Texas and moved from Texas to Mohave County 38 years ago. He was in the construction business and was a member of Teamsters Local No. 395.

Mr. West is survived by: his wife, Clara, of Kingman; one son, Rick West, of Glendale, Ariz.; one daughter, Mary Ann Hayley; one sister, LaVerne Watzon of San Angelo, Texas; two grandchildren; one great grandchild; one niece; and one nephew.

A graveside service will be held for Mr. West in Mountain View Cemetery at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, 1998.

Wanda Fern Irvin

Wanda Fern Irvin died Wednesday, Nov. 18, 1998 in Bullhead City. She was 90.

Mrs. Irvin was born March 3, 1908. She moved to Kingman in 1973 following her retirement from the Redondo Beach School District in California. She was an active member of St. Johns United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Irvin is survived by: one stepdaughter, Sandra Newbanks, of Long Beach, Calif.; one son Kenneth Kelly of Kingman; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Irvin was preceded in death by her husband, James F. Irvin.

Cremation is being handled by Sutton Crematory. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday Nov. 23, 1998 at St. Johns United Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert Cutlip officiating.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Johns Methodist Church.

Helen Louise Robey

Helen Louise Robey died Tuesday Nov. 17, 1998, in Kingman. She was 59.

Mrs. Robey was born Sept. 5, 1939 in Kingman and returned 14 years ago, coming here from Nevada. She was a care giver on the health care industry.

Mrs. Robey is survived by: her husband, Robert D. Robey of Kingman; one son, "Sonny" Shepard of Kingman; one daughter, Echo Dawn Robey of Denver, Colo.; three brothers, Daniel B. Dancer of Henderson, Nev., L. Bill Miller of Kingman, and Don Miller of Casper, Wyo.; three sisters, Geri Cox, Mary E. Hassell, and Sherry L. Wasik, all of Kingman; one grandchild; one great-grandchild; 25 nieces; 15 nephews; and 50 cousins. She was preceded in death by: one daughter; one son; four grandchildren; and her parents.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday Nov. 21, 1998, at Sutton Memorial Funeral Home. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, also at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery.

Alex Perow

Alex Perow died Wednesday Nov. 11, 1998, in Kingman. He was 73.

Mr. Perow was born Aug. 20, 1925, in Schenectady, N.Y., and came to Kingman 10 years ago from Baltimore, Md. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years during World War II.

Mr. Perow is survived by: his wife, Darlene; two sons, Barry Perow of Denver, Colo., and Robert Perow of Adelaide, South Australia; one sister, Beatrice Dorenz of Coconut Creek, Fla.; and two grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at Fort Logan Veterans Cemetery.

Jack B. Holbrook

Jack B. Holbrook, a former resident of Kingman, died Sunday Nov. 8, 1998, in Las Vegas, Nev. He was 68.

Mr. Holbrook was born Jan. 8, 1930, in Los Angeles and had lived in the Las Vegas area for 17 years. He was an assistant superintendent at a power plant and a member of Boulder City (Nev.) Elks Lodge No. 1682.

Mr. Holbrook is survived by: his wife, Patricia of Las Vegas; two sons, John P. Holbrook of Fountain Valley, Calif., and Steve Crowe of Mesquite, Texas; two daughters, Peggy Schneider of Henderson, Nev., and Kathy Widoe of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one brother, Paul Holbrook of Sylmar, Calif.; one sister, Reva Schmidt of Santa Clarita, Calif.; and nine grandchildren.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. (PST) Saturday Nov. 28, 1998, at the Boulder City Elks Lodge, located at 1217 Nevada Highway, Boulder City, Nev.

Burial will be in Bunkers Eden Vale Memorial Park.

The family suggests memorial donations to the Nathan Adelson Hospice.

Loy Douglas Sears

Loy Douglas Sears, a resident of Kingman, died Sunday Nov. 8, 1998, in Las Vegas, Nev. He was 75.

Mr. Sears was born May 2, 1923, in Motley, Minn., and came to Kingman nine years ago from Montana. He was a railroad engineer. He was a member of the Railway Clerks Union in Brainard. Minn., and a life member of VFW Post No. 3596 in Plains, Mont.

Mr. Sears is survived by: one son, Michael Sears of Nome, Ak.; two daughters, Beneva Allen of Prescott Valley, and Cindy Qamspoker of Kingman; one brother, Gail Sears of Plains, Mont.; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by: his wife, Genevie, in 1993.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday Nov. 12, 1998, at Sutton Memorial Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Mountain View Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Cutliff officiating.

Marjorie O'Connor

Marjorie O'Connor, a former Kingman resident, died Saturday Nov. 7, 1998, in Santa Barbara, Calif. She was 86.

Mrs. O'Connor came to Arizona 15 years ago from California and returned to California two years ago. She was an active member of the Mohave Roaming Sams and Butler Sociables.

Mrs. O'Connor is survived by: one son, Donald Jackson; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by: her husband, Patrick O'Connor.

Graveside services will be held Monday Nov. 16, 1998, at the Pomona Cemetery, Pomona, Calif.

Richard "Cougar" Nelson

Richard "Cougar" Nelson of Kingman died Oct. 31, 1998, in Phoenix. He was 60.

Mr. Nelson, a nationally known trombonist, was born in Bloomfield, N.J.

He is survived by his wife, Dawn Nelson; a son, Richard Nelson; a daughter, Ericka Midiri; a brother, Thomas Nelson; and sister, Debbie Austin.

Adobe Chapel Funeral Home in Avondale handled the cremation arrangements.

Ethel Robinett

Ethel Robinett died Friday Nov. 6, 1998, in Kingman. She was 90.

Mrs. Robinett was born Aug. 11, 1908, in Terral, Okla. She moved to Mohave County from Los Angeles in 1935. For 20 years, she worked for the Kingman School District No. 4 cafeteria program and was district supervisor upon her retirement in 1970.

She was a life-long Methodist and a member of St. John's Methodist Church. She was also a 47-year member of Kingman Rebekah Lodge No. 12 and a member of the Sara Alta Past Noble Grands Club, Kingman Women's Club and the Retired Teachers Association.

She is survived by: six children: Gene Robinett of El Paso, Texas, Janet Pynchon of Crockett, Va., Ruby Bergbauer of Pennsville, N.J., Mary Haizlip of Kingman, Dalton Robinett Jr. of Live Oak, Fla, and Susan Thomas of Las Vegas, Nev.; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband, Dalton Robinett Sr., two sisters and three brothers.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday Nov. 11, 1998. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday Nov. 12, 1998, at Sutton Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Kingman Rebekah Lodge No. 12, 2495 Butler Ave., Kingman, Ariz. 86401.

Charles Owen Evans

Charles Owen Evans died Tuesday Nov. 3, 1998, in Kingman. He was 99.

Mr. Evans was born Aug. 27, 1899, in Havensville, Kan., and was a carpenter. He waas a member of the Kingman Elks Lodge.

Mr. Evans is survived by: his wife, Mabel Violet Evans; one sister, Katie McKinsey of Nort Kansas City, Mo.; two cousins; and two nephews.

Graveside services were held today - Thursday Nov. 5, 1998 - at Mountain View Cemetery.

Thomas C. Laitem

Thomas C. Laitem, a former Kingman resident, died Monday Nov. 2, 1998, in Phoenix. He was 70.

Mr. Laitem was born in Minneapolis, Minn., and came to Arizona in 1938 from California. He had been employed as a civil engineer by the City of Tempe and was graduated from Kingman High School in 1946. He was graduated from Arizona State University in 1951 and was a veteran of the Korean conflict.

Mr. Laitem is survived by his wife, Norma J. Laitem; three daughters, Helen Ramey, Karen Bailes, and Annette Walker; one son, Michael E. Laitem; and six grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday Nov. 7, 1998, at Whitney & Murphy Arcadia Funeral Home Chapel, located at 4800 E. Indian School Road in Phoenix.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Scottsdale Healthcare Hospice, 5111 N. Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale, Ariz. 85250.

Casper Lee Whitehead

Casper Lee Whitehead died Monday, Nov. 2, 1998 in Kingman. He was 55.

Mr. Whitehead was born on Nov. 9, 1942 in Broken Bow, Okla. and came to Kingman from California in 1971.

He was self-employed, working for Bank Street Appliance since 1971. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Mr. Whitehead served from Oct. 11, 1967 until Oct. 10, 1969.

Mr. Whitehead is survived by: wife Sally Whitehead of Kingman; two sons, Jeff Hungate of Fayetteville, Ark., and Scott Whitehead of Kingman; daughter Kristine Kilgore of Fayetteville, Ark.; three step-daughters, Gayle Gartin of Scottsdale, Bobbie Bartmus of Kingman, and Jolyn Chambers of California; brother Bill Whitehead Jr. of Mississippi; two sisters, Ann Dunn of California and Margaret Rudgles of Florida; father William Whitehead Sr. of Petaluma, Calif.; and 14 grandchildren.

No services were announced. Cremation will be handled by Sutton Crematory.

Bonnie C. Dodson

Bonnie C. Dodson died Monday, Nov. 2, 1998 in Kingman. She was 66.

Mrs. Dodson was born on May 31, 1932 in Ensino, N.M. She moved to Arizona 38 years ago from New Mexico and to Kingman in 1990.

She was a homemaker and a member of the College Park Baptist Church.

Mrs. Dodson is survived by: husband Zearl "Red" Dodson of Kingman; son Zearl Edward "Z" Dodson of Tucson; daughter Yvonne Root of Kingman; two brothers, Phil Cusenbary of Farmington, N.M. and Mark Cusenbary of Phoenix; two sisters, Pat Calvert and Sue Dodson, both of Aztec, N.M.; eight grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 6 from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. at College Park Baptist Church. Services, officiated by the Rev. Paul Temple, will follow at the same location at 10 a.m.. Burial will be at the Hackberry Cemetery.

The family asks that memorial donations be made to the College Park Baptist Church building fund.

Lenora E. Heller

Lenora E. Heller died Oct. 31, 1998 in Kingman. She was 84.

Mrs. Heller was born Aug. 30, 1914 in Montrose, Colo. She was raised in the gold mining towns of Colorado, later resided in Costa Mesa, Calif. for 35 years.Upon her retirement from the city of Costa Mesa in 1977, she moved to Kingman. She was active in the Butler Sociables Club, Good Sam Club, Singles Club and Widows and Widowers Club.

Mrs. Heller is survived by: two sons, Arthur H. Heller of Grass Valley, Calif. and Dudley H. Heller of Pacific, Calif.; two sisters, Betty Jenkins of Sandpoint, Idaho, and Cecile Van Arsdale of Elgin, Ore.; five grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Heller was preceded in death by her husband Charles L. Heller.

No arrangements were announced.

Betty M. Moerbeck

Betty M. "Pee Wee" Moerbeck died Wednesday, April 21, 1999 in Kingman. She was 75. Mrs. Moerbeck was born Oct. 13, 1923 in Monticello, Ken. She was self-employed as a hair dresser in Pacific Palisades, Calif. She was a member of The Lunch Bunch and various other widowed persons organizations. She was a resident of Mohave County since the mid-1960s having lived in Temple Bar and the Hualapai Mountains from the 1960s to the 1990s. She was a resident of Kingman for the past ten years.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.

A memorial services is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 29, 1999 at Sutton Memorial Funeral Home. Rev. Ronald Fair will officiate.

Ivan LaVern Shutt

Ivan LaVern Shutt died Monday, April 5, 1999 in Kingman. He was 70. Mr. Shutt was born Nov. 25, 1928 in Madison County, Iowa to Vern and Margaret Shutt. He grew up on a farm northeast of Truro, Iowa, with his father and step mother, Helen Boren Shutt. He attended Truro Consolidated School and business school in Des Moines. He served in the Army during the Korean War, specializing in message decoding.

He married wife, Gwenivere in July, 1961.

Business as an insurance adjuster took the couple to several different Western states.

After retiring as an insurance adjuster, Mr. Shutt managed a car rental agency for several years.

He is survived by: mother, Margaret; step-mother, Helen Shutt, of Truro, Iowa; two sisters, Bernice Bruce of Aurora, Colo., and Elizabeth Smith of Truro, Iowa; three nephews and one niece. He was preceded in death by his wife, father, step-brother and three nephews.
