Margaret F. 'Peggy' Bethel

Margaret F. 'Peggy' Bethel, 91, of Willcox, died May 11, 2002 in Willcox.

She was born in the Arizona Territory, in Douglas, on Nov. 16, 1910 to Samuel Thornton Clark and Margarite Forsyth Clark.

Peggy came to Willcox in 1943, from Bisbee, and had resided at her current address since 1946.

On March 16, 1930, in Lordsburg, N.M., she married Lester "Peck" Bethel.

She was a member of the Willcox United Methodist Church, Willcox Women's Club, and past member of Harmony Chapter Order of the Eastern Star #11. She was an avid gardener and also worked in the family business.

Survivors include her sons Howard D. (Gwen) Bethel, Floyd R. (Laura Anne) Bethel and Lester F. (Judy) Bethel Jr., all of Willcox. Also surviving is her sister Martha Tolbert of Tucson, nine grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death was her husband Lester "Peck" Bethel on April 19, 1984, one son Jerald Thorton "Jerry" Bethel, one granddaughter Cari Michelle Bethel, four brothers and a sister.

Cremation has taken place at Westlawn Crematorium.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3 p.m., on Saturday, June 22, at Willcox United Methodist Church.

Contributions may be made to Charles Wm. Leighton, Jr. Hospice, 319 W. Grant, Willcox, AZ 85643 or Northern Cochise Community Hospital, 901 W. Rex Allen Dr., Willcox, AZ. 85643.

Services are under the direction of Westlawn Chapel & Mortuary in Willcox.

Cheryl Dawn McClain

1956-2002

Cheryl Dawn McClain, of Sunizona died July 30, 2002 in Sunizona at the age of 46.

She was born in Landstuhl, Germany on Jan. 1, 1956 to Hobert H. McGraw and Roberta Mae Calhoun McGraw.

Cheryl proudly served in the U.S. Air Force, worked for the Mendocino National Forest Headquarters in the accounting department and was currently a Certified Nursing Assistant at Northern Cochise Community Hospital and Nursing Home.

She has lived in Sunizona for the last two years coming from Willows, Calif., and attended Wynne Chapel in Richland Ranchettes.

Survivors include her daughter Janice (Micah) Rich of Sacramento, Calif., a granddaughter Melody Leigh Rich of Sacramento, Calif.; her parents Mac and Roberta McGraw of Sunizona; sister Vici Kahookele of Virginia Beach, Va.; brother Michael McGraw of Nevada; and her fiancˇ Ted Richard of Sunizona.

Cremation was conducted at Westlawn Crematorium with Memorial Services to be held on Friday, Aug. 9, at 11 a.m. at Wynne Chapel in Richland Ranchettes, Cochise.

Contributions may be made to the Charles Wm. Leighton, Jr. Hospice, 319 W. Grant, Willcox, AZ 85643.

Services are under the direction of Westlawn Chapel & Mortuary in Willcox.

Jack Dewayne Scofield

1923-2002

Jack D. Scofield of Willcox, died Sept. 29, 2002 in Tucson at the age of 79.

He was born in Osage, Iowa on Jan. 28, 1923 to Franklin Fredrick Scofield and Dorothy Mereness, and came to Arizona many years ago.

His parents and sister, Betty Coly, predeceased him.

Survivors include his wife Cecilia of Willcox; sons, Jack F. (Carol) Scofield of Mesa and Larry A. (Susana) Scofield of Tempe; sisters, Edye (John) Hren of Worcester, N.Y., Irma (Herbert) West of Jefferson, N.Y. and Helen (Gordon) Miller of Smyrna, Del.; three grandchildren and two-great-grandchildren.

Memorial services were held on Saturday, Oct. 19, at Catalina Baptist Church in Tucson.

Constance Claire 'Connie' Foress

1921 - 2002

Constance Claire 'Connie' Foress, of Pearce, died Dec. 11, 2002, at the age of 81.

She was born Jan. 8, 1921, in Cleveland, Ohio, the only child of Frank and Clara Donahue.

Connie spent most of her childhood and adult life in Michigan; younger years in the Mackinaw City/Cheboygan area and later years in Lansing.

She worked many years performing office work, retiring after 10 years of serving as Public Guardian of Otsego County, Mich., where she competently and compassionately handled the personal and financial matters of nearly 70 developmentally-disabled individuals.

Upon retirement, Connie and her husband Ellwood retired to the community of Pearce/Sunsites. They were avid golfers and enjoyed the beauty of the area. Connie was a dedicated volunteer at the Sunsites Community Library.

Connie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 46 years, Ellwood; and her young son Joey.

She is survived by her son, Mark Foress of Las Vegas, Nev.; and her daughter Karen Foress of Cochise. She is also survived by family and friends in Michigan, Florida and several other states.

Mom will be remembered by many people for various reasons, most specifically, what a dear and giving woman she always was.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Charles Wm. Leighton, Jr. Hospice, Inc., 319 W. Grant Street, Willcox, Ariz., 85643.

Without the assistance of the hospice staff and volunteers, mom's wish to spend the last months of her life in the home that she loved would not have been possible.

Celebration of her life was held on Sunday, Dec. 15, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Sunsites Senior Center, in Sunsites.

Arrangements were under the direction of Westlawn Chapel, Mortuary and Crematorium, in Willcox.

Paul F. Montgomery

1915-2003

Paul F. Montgomery, of Sunizona, died July 5, 2003 in Tucson at the age of 87.

He was born in Indiana on Sept. 6, 1915.

Paul worked as a machinist for Goodyear Airline Manufacturing and owned and operated Victory Awning Company. He was affiliated with the Catholic Church.

On March 1, 1987 in Phoenix, he married Lillian Welden and moved to Sunizona.

Survivors include his wife Lillian of Sunizona; daughters, Patricia Carson of Franktown, Colo., and Pauletta Wilhem of New Mexico. Also surviving are his step-daughters, Cherie Lee of Peoria and Chandra Eden of Sunizona; along with a stepson Gary Allen Babcock of Elko, Nev.; and four grandchildren.

His parents, one brother and one son, Daniel Montgomery, predeceased him.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, July 10, at 1:30 p.m. at the Pearce cemetery in Pearce.

Services are under the direction of Westlawn Chapel, Mortuary and Crematorium of Willcox.

Michele Leigh Osornio

1983-2003

Michele Leigh Osornio of Willcox died Sept. 23, 2003 near Bisbee at the age of 20. She was born in Tucson on May 1, 1983 to Luis R. and Kathy J. (Nielson) Osornio, Jr.

Michele has lived her entire life in Willcox. She worked for Lou's Auto Sales as a secretary, and had worked for the City of Willcox at the Magistrate (City) Court and at Desert Impressions. Michele was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Survivors include a daughter Victoria Elena Osornio; parents Luis and Kathy; sister Rosa (Javier) Moran, all of Willcox; and her brother Luis Osornio, III of Tucson. Also surviving is her grandmother Simona Osornio; and nieces Adrianna Osornio and Magdalena Moran all of Willcox, along with numerous aunts and uncles.

Visitation was held on Monday, Sept. 29, beginning at 6 p.m. with a Rosary said at 7 p.m. at Westlawn Chapel. Funeral Mass was offered Tuesday, Sept. 30, at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial following in Sunset cemetery.

Contributions may be made for Victoria Elena Osornio, c/o Kathy Osornio, 3221 N. Ft. Grant Rd, Willcox, Ariz. 85643. Services were under the direction of Westlawn Chapel, Mortuary and Crematorium of Willcox.

Ignacia L. "Nachy" Acevedo

1921-2003

Ignacia L. Acevedo, of Willcox died Nov. 30, 2003, in Tucson at the age of 82. She was born in Bonita on July 4, 1921 to Juan and Juanita (Moraga) Leon.

She was a homemaker and lived all her life in the Willcox area. Nachy was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Survivors include her sons Raul (Rita) and Richard (Rosemari) both of Tucson; along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Her parents, a daughter Elvia A. Miranda, and a son Paul L. Acevedo preceded her in death.

A Rosary will be offered on Friday, Dec. 5, beginning at 10 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Willcox with Funeral Mass at 11 a.m., at the church. Burial will follow in Sunset cemetery in Willcox.

Services are under the direction of Westlawn Chapel, Mortuary and Crematorium of Willcox.

Patricia Ann Deaver

Patricia Ann Deaver died on June 14, 2002 in Safford, at the age of 79.

Pat was born to John and Iva Deaver on Oct. 2, 1922 in Muskogee, Okla.

She was brought to Arizona as a young girl, and lived the rest of her life in the state.

She was most proud of her career as a cosmetologist and taught many students over the years. She was a member of the Eastern Star. Her favorite saying was "I did the best I could."

Pat is survived by her five children: Judi Lowry, Mike (Marian) Lowry, Janice (Jon) Lowry-Gothold, Bob (Tonni) Lowry, Joanie (Jerry) Mogalian; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Private services were held June 18, in Duncan.

Contributions can be made to Northern Cochise Nursing Home, 901 W. Rex Allen Dr., Willcox, AZ 85643, or Meals on Wheels.

Arrangements were under the direction of Westlawn Chapel & Mortuary in Willcox.
