Ted Polanski

Ted "Rip" Polanski, 62, of Fountain Hills died Jan. 28, 1998.

Born in Clifton, N.J., Mr. Polanski moved to Arizona 23 years ago from New Jersey. He was a retired engineer for Occidental Petroleum.

He was a member of The Computer Club of Phoenix.

Survivors include his wife, Susan, of Fountain Hills; daughters, Michelle Conner of Phoenix and Karen Mascitello of Scottsdale; sons, Cliff Polanski of Phoenix and Glenn Polanski of Mesa; two stepsons, Josh Lauer of Honolulu, Hawaii and Matt Lauer of Tempe; sister, Evelyn Gulywasz of Clifton, N.J.; and three grandchildren.

A service was held Jan. 31 at Messinger Mortuary and Chapel in Scottsdale. The family suggests memorial contributions be given to Foundation for Blind Children, 1201 N. 85th Place, Scottsdale, AZ 85257.

Bjorn Andresen

Bjorn Andresen, 69, from Oslo, Norway, a winter resident of Fountain Hills, died at his home Feb. 14, 1998 after a long illness with cancer.

Mr. Andresen was born in Oslo, Norway.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Anna Stabell Andresen; a sister-in-law, Barbra Stabell; a brother-in-law, Herman Stabell and his wife, Marit; and nieces and their families.

Mr. Andresen received a Fullbright Scholarship to study at Washington State College, where he earned a bachelor of arts degree in business administration in 1951. He lived in the Chicago area for some years and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He was sent to teach at the Army Language School in Monterey, Calif. He served as a language translator for NATO from 1969 to 1990.

Mr. Andresen was an avid tennis player and duplicate bridge player. For several years he was chairman of the 1600-member Oslo Bridge Association.

Mr. Andresen will be remembered by many for having brought groups of visitors from Norway to Fountain Hills. He received a key to the town from former Mayor John Cutillo.

A memorial service will be held at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, Fountain Hills and El Lago boulevards, with Pastor Joel Bjerkestrand officiating, on Saturday, Feb. 21, at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower Street, Phoenix, AZ 85014, or to the Lutheran Church.

Ralph Gunn

Ralph Barnett Gunn, 77, of Estes Park, Colo. and formerly of Fountain Hills, died Feb. 6, 1998 in Fort Collins, Colo.

Born May 6, 1920, Mr. Gunn married Margaret (Peggi) Johnstone in 1942. They had four children — Catherine, Robert, Rebecca and Jeanne.

He was a grandfather of six: Angela and Tricia Simmering, James and Carol Berard and Arthur and Alexandra Elmes. His wife preceded him in death.

In 1942 he graduated from Iowa State University with honors in plant breeding and genetics. He was hired by DeKalb Genetics as a research agronomist. He then worked at several experimental breeding stations to perform research and development to increase corn yields and to produce hybrids with disease resistance and insect tolerance.

He was a member of several professional societies and spent a great deal of time speaking to farm groups across the United States.

He retired from DeKalb Genetics in 1972, after 30 years in his profession, and then the Gunns moved to Fountain Hills.

He studied photography here and opened his own studio, working primarily with portraits, weddings and scenics and developing travelogues.

While in school, Mr. Gunn studied piano, violin and voice. He was a member of several church choirs. While living in Fountain Hills, he sang with Valley Presbyterian Church Choir and the Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church Choir as well as the Phoenix Symphony Choral.

Since moving to Estes Park as a full-time resident in 1982, he continued to sing in choirs. He was an Eagle Scout and worked with the Scouting program his entire life. He also was active in Scottish affairs and societies.

In 1993, he married his and Peggi's special friend, Polly G. Garrett. She survives him in death.

Together they were strong supporters of the church, civic affairs and the arts community in Estes Park.

Memorial gifts may be sent to the Community Church Memorial Fund in care of Allnutt Funeral Service, P.O. Box 4380, Estes Park, CO 80517.

Scott Yeager

Scott Victor Yeager of Longmont, Colo. and Fountain Hills died Feb. 2, 1998 at his Longmont home.

He was 46.

Mr. Yeager was a real estate broker and salesman in Parker, Pagosa Springs and Bullhead City, Ariz. and had lived in Longmont for the past seven years.

He belonged to St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Longmont and was a former member of the Board of Realtors.

Mr. Yeager enjoyed fishing, camping, baseball and soccer with family members.

Born May 23, 1951 in Denver, Colo., he was the son of Victor Elmer and Nancy Loker Yeager. He attended Bradley Elementary School and Thomas Jefferson Junior and Senior High School, where he was on the golf team.

He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1969 and received his bachelor of science degree in marketing from the University of Northern Colorado.

Survivors include his mother, Nancy Yeager of Fort Collins and Fountain Hills; two sons, Travis Yeager of Flippin, Ark. and Eric Caswall of Aurora, Colo.; brother, Brad Yeager; his wife, Lisa, of Yorba Linda, Calif.; two sisters, Nancy Desserich of Fort Collins, Colo. and Pam Child and her husband, Ray, of Pine, Colo.; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services were Feb. 7 at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Longmont.

Memorial contributions are requested to the Travis Scott Yeager College Fund in care of Lewellen Longmont Memorial Chapel, 503 Terry St., Longmont, CO 80501.

Marian Williams

Marian M. Williams, 77, of Fountain Hills died here Dec. 18, 1998.

Born Feb. 9, 1921 in Chicago, Mrs. Williams was formerly employed as a welder for Aircraft Manufacturing Co.

Survivors include two daughters, Carols S. Nielsen (David) of Fountain Hills; Johann Hainsel of Pompano Beach, Fla.; and two grandchildren.

A visitation and services for Mrs. Williams were held on Monday at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions to be made to The Salvation Army, P.O. Box 52177, in Phoenix, 85072.

Jared Russo

Jared Russo, six months old, died Dec. 16, 1998 in Scottsdale.

Survivors include his parents, Christopher and Julie (Hershey) Russo of Scottsdale; sister, Nicole Desiree Hershey of Scottsdale; grandparents John and Honi Hershey of Fountain Hills, Marilyn Culver of Scottsdale and Richard Russo of Phoenix; and one great-grandmother, Ethel Hershey of Fountain Hills.

A memorial service was held Dec. 20 at Messinger Mortuary Chapel, Scottsdale.

The family suggests contributions to the Arizona chapter of S.I.D.S. Alliance, c/o Phoenix Children's Hospital, 909 E. Brill Street, Phoenix, AZ 85006.

Frederick Jewell

Frederick Jewell, 69, of Fountain Hills died Dec. 9, 1998 in Mesa.

Born Oct. 8, 1929 in Newark, N.J., he moved machinery for a rigging company during his adult career.

He was a U.S. Army veteran and was a member of the American Legion Post No. 58 in Fountain Hills.

Survivors include his wife, Antonie Jewell of Fountain Hills.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, Dec. 17, at 11 a.m. at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary, 12065 N. Saguaro Blvd.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Dignita Hospice Care, 202 E. Earll, Phoenix, AZ 85012.

Robert Schulze

Robert A. Schulze, 47, an 18-year veteran deputy for the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, died Dec. 2, 1998.

Born in Detroit, Mich., Mr. Schulze lived in Phoenix. He worked as a deputy in the Fountain Hills area in the late 1980s.

Survivors include his wife, Christine; daughter, Samantha; sisters, Cheri Lynn Hall of Michigan, Sandra Landino of Michigan and Cheryl Broeker of Texas; and a brother, Marvin "Bud" Schulze of Michigan.

Visitation was held Dec. 4 at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary with a funeral service Dec. 5 at North Valley Baptist Church in Phoenix.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 5377, Phoenix, AZ 85010 or the American Heart Association, 2929 S. 48th Street, Tempe, AZ 85282.

Loyal Stalcup

Loyal O. Stalcup, 77, of Scottsdale died Nov. 3, 1998 in Mesa.

Born in Perkins, Okla., Mr. Stalcup was a Realtor with Century 21 Alliance Realty and did much business in Fountain Hills. He was a member of the Scottsdale Board of Realtors and of the Masons.

He moved to Arizona 46 years ago from New Mexico.

Survivors include his wife, L.J. Stalcup of Scottsdale; four daughters, Deena Rae Pangborn of Altascadero, Calif., Melinda Kay Kugler of Cave Creek, Melanie Faye West of Scottsdale and Lisa Renee Camarena of Guademale, Central America; sister, Irene Faye DeWitt of Sierra Vista; and 13 grandchildren.

A service was held Nov. 7 at First Christian Church in Scottsdale.

Elaine Teletzke

Elaine M. Teletzke, 69, of Scottsdale died Nov. 3, 1998 in Mesa.

Born in Beaver Dam, Wis., Mrs. Teletzke moved to Arizona 13 years ago from Wausau, Wis. She was a member of the Mesa Country Club, Arizona Women's Golf Association and American Association of University Women.

In Wausau she was very active with volunteer work and was selected as "volunteer of the year" by the United Way in 1980.

A former pharmacist, Mr. Teletzke also was involved with University of Wisconsin alumni scholarship activities. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Scottsdale.

Survivors include her husband, Gerald H. Teletzke of Scottsdale; daughter, Barbara A. Baranski; son, Gary F. Teletzke; brother, Russell F. Gloudeman; and two grandchildren.

A mass was held Nov. 7 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. The family suggests memorial contributions to the church, 10815 N. 84th Street, Scottsdale, AZ 85260.

Yvonne Brackett

Yvonne Brackett, 74, of Fountain Hills died Nov. 6, 1998 at Scottsdale Healthcare Shea.

Born Jan. 14, 1924 in Ft. Wayne, Ind., Mrs. Brackett was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Edgar Brackett, an employee of Eli Lilly Pharmaceutical Co. for 40 years.

Survivors include her son, Kim Brackett of Goshen, Ohio; daughter, Alane Brown of Townsend, Mass.; and sister, June Bradley of South Bend, Ind.

William Hodoval Sr.

William J. Hodoval Sr. of Fountain Hills, 89, formerly of Wood Dale, Ill., died Nov. 7, 1998 at his Fountain Hills home.

Born May 15, 1909, Mr. Hodoval worked as an assembler with industrial heating.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Anna.

He is survived by his son, William, of Fountain Hills; daughter, Marie (Ken) Stallsmith of Wood Dale; grandsons Ken Stallsmith of Wood Dale, John (Cynthia) Stallsmith of Fountain Hills; great-grandson, Cory; niece, Barbara Klaub of Fountain Hills; three nephews; and many loving friends.

A private service was held at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary. The family suggests contributions to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower Street, Phoenix, AZ 85014.

Charles Terrusa

Charles A. Terrusa, 74, died Nov. 7, 1998 at his Fountain Hills residence.

Born Nov. 3, 1924 in New York, N.Y., Mr. Terrusa worked as a plant manager for a manufacturing company and was later employed at the Taco Bell in Fountain Hills.

He served in the Army infantry during World War II and received the Purple Heart award.

Mr. Terrusa also was a member of Church of the Ascension, Knights of Columbus, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Aileen Terrusa of Fountain Hills; daughters, Lee Heinrich (Steven) of Dalton Gardens, Idaho and Donna Biczo (John) of Fountain Hills; and grandsons, Gregory, Bryan and Christopher Heinrich of Dalton Gardens and Keith, Phillip and Russell Biczo of Fountain Hills.

A memorial Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Nov. 11 at Church of the Ascension, 12615 N. Fountain Hills Blvd.

Norris Johnson

Norris P. Johnson, a 22-year winter resident of Fountain Hills, died at his home in South Haven, Mich. Sunday, Sept. 27.

Mr. Johnson was a retired retail merchant, graduate of the University of Michigan and a veteran of World War II. He served three years in the U.S. Army including 20 months in the European Theater of Operations.

Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife of 56 years, Irene (Benacker) Johnson; one daughter, Patsy (David) Eisler of South Ogden, Utah; and two granddaughters, Heather Leigh Eisler of Greeley, Colo. and Lindsay Suzanne Eisler of Tempe, Az.

Memorial services for Mr. Johnson are to be held Saturday, Oct. 3, in South Haven, Mich. The family is requesting memorial contributions to South Haven Area Hospice, P.O. Box 990, South Haven, Mich. 49090.
