Philip Sudore

Philip R. Sudore, 87, of Fountain Hills died June 11, 2004 in Scottsdale.

Born April 26, 1917 in Rochester, N.Y., he worked during his adult career as an inspector for the Rochester, N.Y. Gas & Electric Company.

A U.S. Navy veteran, he was a parishioner at Church of the Ascension in Fountain Hills and was a member of the Disables American Veterans, Chapter 22.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carol Lou Sudore-Case, on Aug. 26, 1999.

Survivors include his wife, Anne, of Fountain Hills; sons, Sam (Maria) Sudore of Fountain Hills and James (Deborah) Sudore of Ontario, N.Y.; brothers, Jack, Joe and Sam of Rochester and Frank of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; sisters, Anne Tedesco (Nick), Mary Stafford, Lucy Fiammi, Linda Agresti (Frank) and Beatrice Dorazio (Angelo), all from Rochester; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be held in Rochester, N.Y.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society, 2929 E. Thomas Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85016 or to the American Diabetes Association, 8125 N. 23rd Avenue, No. 222, Phoenix, AZ 85021.

Kay L. Weidner

Kay L. Weidner of Fountain Hills died early Monday, June 14, at Scottsdale Healthcare Shea hospital. She was born May 11, 1944 in Milwaukee, Wis.

Mrs. Weidner was preceded in death by one son, Kevin Zimmerman. She is survived by two sons; Daniel Zimmerman (Linda) of Fountain Hills and their sons, Joshua and Zachary, and James Ring (Dawn) of Port Orchard, Wash. and their sons, Keith and Andrew; a niece, Debbie Bielecki (Rick) of Marinette, Wis. and their children, Matthew and Courtney; and she is survived by many other loving friends and relatives.

Mrs. Weidner was in the real estate business in Fountain Hills for many years. She was a member of the Scottsdale, Arizona and National Association of Realtors.

She was also an active member of the Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church.

A memorial service will be held at the Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church, 13001 Fountain Hills Blvd., at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 17.

Interment will be next to her son in Lannon, Wis.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting memorial contributions to the HHT Foundation, P.O. Box 329, Monkton, MD 21111.

Robert Keller

Robert "Bob" Keller, 83, of Fountain Hills died July 26, 2004 at Scottsdale Healthcare Shea hospital.

Born March 17, 1921 in Carmel, Canada, Mr. Keller was a retired store manager for J.C. Penney department stores.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly A. Keller of Fountain Hills; sons, Thomas Keller of Providence, R.I. and Mark A. Keller (Daniel Schreiber) of Phoenix; daughter, Joyce Ingling (Tom) of Bordentown, N.J.; brother, Edward Keller (Ruth) of Newton, Iowa; sisters, Mildred Bennett (Paul) of Leon, Iowa and Gladys Leeper (Miles) of Garden Grove, Iowa; sister-in-law, Donna Kelley of Leon, Iowa; and three grandchildren, Lisa Brown (Peter) and Philip and Christie Ingling.

Visitation was held July 30 at Church of the Ascension in Fountain Hills followed by a funeral mass. Interment was at St. Mary’s Mausoleum in Bordentown, N.J.

Robert Schafranka

Captain Robert V. Schafranka, 82, passed away July 28, 2004, in Fountain Hills after a long battle with cancer.

Bob spent most of his adult life in the aviation field, with eight years on active military duty and 32 years as an Air Force Pilot.

He was born Sept. 2, 1922 and raised in New Mexico. Joined the Army Air Force in June 1942. He completed his pilot training with class 43-B.

His first assignment was with the 6th Tow Target Squadron at Biggs Field, Texas. During the stay at the 6th Tow Target Squadron he was able to check out in several types of airplanes, from fighters to bombers.

During July 1943 Bob was assigned to four-engine training prior to being assigned to the 450-bomb group flying B-24s. He flew 50 missions with the 15th Air Force in Italy. Returning to the states he was assigned to the Eastern Technical Training Command training B-24 pilots.

During the Berlin Air Lift Bob was the Base Accountable Supply Officer at Templehof Air Base in Berlin, Germany.

In April 1950 Bob retired from active duty. In Dallas, Texas he went to work for Pioneer Air Lines for two years, before moving to Las Vegas to work for Bonanza Air Lines. He worked for Bonanza, Hughes Air West and Republic Air for over 30 years, flying captain for 28 years. Retirement age at 60 caught up with him in 1982.

During his flying years he found time to own an apartment complex, work on various political projects as well as several conservative causes and was Add Council Chairman, MEC Chairman and worked on several ALPA contracts. Bob always said flying beat working for a living two to one.

Since moving to Fountain Hills, he and Peggy became active members of the First Baptist Church and made many friends.

Captain Schafranka celebrated life with his wife Peggy for 62 years. Also survived by son, David, of Phoenix, daughter, Robbie Beaty, and husband Ted of St. Louis, two grandsons, Tim Beaty of St. Louis and Derek Beaty of Maui, sister Kay Howell of Show Low and sister-in law Anne Schafranka of Tucson.

Services were held at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary Tuesday, Aug. 3.

Captain Schafranka will be interned in the National Memorial cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix.

Delores Carrabine

Delores Carrabine, age 71 of Fountain Hills, formerly of Bloomington, Ind. and Chicago Heights, Ill. passed away in Arizona on Friday, Dec. 20.

Mrs. Carrabine was a member of the American Health Information Medical Association, the Indiana University Women’s Club and St. Bernard of Clairvaux in Scottsdale. She was a medical records technician at St. James and Oak Forest hospitals.

Mrs. Carrabine was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Mildren Ogrin and a sister, Patricia. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Richard M. Carrabine of Fountain Hills; her children, Therese Carrabine of North Hollywood, Calif., Kathleen (Michael) Lewis of Oak Lawn, Ill., Kevin J. (Elizabeth) Carrabine of Phoenixville, Penna., Dennis (Lori) Carrabine of Lisle, Ill., Diane Carrabine of Waltham, Mass., Nancy (Todd) Thorsen of Jacksonville, Ill., and Keith (Rebecca) Carrabine of Austin, Texas; nine grandchildren and a cousin, Frances Sternal of Michigan.

Funeral services for Mrs. Carrabine will be Saturday, Dec. 28, at 9:30 a.m. at Burns Funeral Home and SS Peter and Paul Church, Merrillville, Ind. for Mass at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Dennis Teles officiating.

Interment will be a Calumet Park cemetery, Merrillville, Ind.

Stanley Burda

Stanley Burda, a long-time advocate and sponsor for Fountain Hills Little League teams, died Aug. 13, 1997 in Chicago. He was 85.

A Chicago native, Mr. Burda was a firefighter for 35 years in that city.

He helped the Little League program survive in Fountain Hills during the 1980s by sponsoring the "Burda Raiders" from his home in the midwest.

Survivers include a son, Mitch, and two grandsons, Ryan and Todd, who reside in Fountain Hills.

A memorial service was held in his honor Aug. 15 in Chicago.

Thomas Curry

Thomas R. Curry, 67, of Fountain Hills died Aug. 18, 1997.

Born in Little Falls, N.Y., Mr. Curry worked as a contract auditor for McDonnell Douglas Helicopter Systems. He also was a veteran from the Korean War.

Survivors include his sons, Thomas Richard Curry Jr. and Bradley James Curry; daughter, Terryann Curry; and four grandchildren.

Private services were held.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 52177, Phoenix, AZ 85072 or Father Flanagan's Boys Home in Boys Town, NE 68010.

Dorothy E. Falconer

Dorothy E. Falconer, 74, of Fountain Hills passed away suddenly on Nov. 8, 2002.

Dorothy was born and raised in Hyattsville, Md., the fourth of six children of Oliver and Margaret Gorham. Dorothy and John H. Falconer have been married for 37 years and have been residents of Arizona since 1978 and in Fountain Hills since 1991.

Dorothy is best known for her loving and compassionate regard for others and her kind and gentle way of making life for those around her more pleasant. In addition to being a mother, wife and homemaker, Dorothy was a licensed respite-care provider who would bring disadvantaged children into her home and provide them with love and care.

Dorothy was a devout Christian who enjoyed celebrating and participating in the Lord’s work through her fellowship at the Fountain Hills First Assembly of God Church.

Dorothy is survived by her husband, John; daughters, Jacquelyn Falconer and Victoria Hunt; sons, Charles Falconer and Robert Ridgeway; stepdaughter Sharon Gibson; stepsons Joel Falconer, Gary Falconer and John C. Falconer; sisters, Cathryn Caravaggio and Carolyn Phillips; brother, Albert Gorham; and 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13, at Fountain Hills First Assembly of God Church, 16239 E. Ironwood Drive, Fountain Hills, 85268.

The family is suggesting memorial contributions be made to the Fountain Hills First Assembly of God Church.

Norman P. Danforth

Norman Patterson Danforth, 79, passed away quietly at 3:45 p.m. Aug. 2, 2004, following a brief hospitalization.

Norman was born in Alberta, Canada in 1924. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force and was honorably discharged. After the war he earned a degree in petroleum engineering at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec.

Mr. Danforth spent most of the next 40 years working in the petroleum industry. He met his wife, Thelma, in 1966 and they were married in 1967. They traveled extensively and had the opportunity to visit many countries.

Following an assignment in Australia, the couple moved back to the United States to retire in Fountain Hills where they bought a home.

Norman was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma, in 2001. Survivors include one sister, Helen Petersen of Lethbridge, Alberta; a niece, Marion Romanchuk; and a nephew, Kenneth Petersen of Calgary; and several cousins.

Local arrangements are being made by Messinger Fountain Hills Funeral Home.

James Kellems Jr.

On Aug. 8, 2004, James "Jimmy" Kellems Jr. passed away at his home in Bullhead City, Ariz. He was 39 years old.

Jimmy was born Feb. 21, 1965 in San Leandro, Calif. and spent much of his years growing up in Modesto located in California’s Central Valley. He was a graduate of Central Catholic High School and was a blackjack dealer at Avi Casino in Laughlin, Nev. at the time of his death.

Jimmy was loved by all who knew him and had a character like personality and an unmistakable laugh. He loved to fish and play racquetball every chance he had and spent special holidays with his family in Fountain Hills.

Survivors include his mother, Dr. Liz Smith, and father, Paul Smith of Fountain Hills, James Kellems Sr., brother, Dr. Grant Smith, his daughter, Jessica, and son, Daniel, grandmothers, Mary Cirincione and Billie Smith, aunts and uncles, Margaret and Shanon Davis, Patricia Tebb, Linda Davis-Mahadevan, and Cynthia and Michael Wallick.

Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary is handling arrangements and friends may contact Messingers at 837-5588 for information about services.

Doris McCormack

Doris Burke McCormack, 90, of Fountain Hills, formerly of Monroe and Houston, Texas, died at 11:50 p.m. Saturday, July 31, at Shadow Mountain Healthcare, Scottsdale, Ariz.

A memorial service will be held Friday, Aug. 13, at 4 p.m. at the chapel located inside the LifeCare Center of Scottsdale, 9494 East Becker Lane, Scottsdale, AZ 85260.

Cremation has taken place. Messinger Mortuary of Fountain Hills was in charge of the arrangements.

Born Dec. 1, 1913, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of Oswald and Alma (Irwin) Burke. She had been married to Horace Metevia. In the 1950s, she married Howard McCormack, and he died in 1975.

Surviving are two sons, Philip (Linda) Metevia of Tennessee and Clifford (Bonnie) McCormack of Michigan; two daughters, Janet (Ghazi) Tawakalna of Fountain Hills and Jean Hasselle of Mississippi, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Richard Wagner

Richard Willcox Wagner, 31, died in his hometown of Scottsdale on March 3, 2000.

Mr. Wagner was born in Scottsdale on July 13, 1968. He was a realtor and the owner of Wagner Realty & Property Management.

He was also the past president of the Scottsdale Board of Realtors and other local and state real estate committees.

Mr. Wagner is survived by his parents, Margaret Ann "Peg" and Rodger W. Wagner of Fountain Hills; and three brothers, Frank Joseph Wagner (Linda) of Scottsdale, Douglas Scott Wagner (Mari) also of Scottsdale and Richard Meza of Tempe.

A memorial service for Mr. Wagner will be held at 7 p.m. this Friday, March 10, at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary, 12065 N. Saguaro Boulevard.

The family suggests contributions be made to the attention of Eric Schmelling of Rotary Foundation, Rotary International, One Rotary Center at 1560 Sherman Avenue in Evanston, Ill., 60201.

James S. King

James S. King, a former resident of Fountain Hills, died on March 6, 2000 in Grand Rapids, Mich. He was 84.

Born May 29, 1915 in Owosso, Mich., Mr. King was an auto parts salesman and a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Survivors include a son, Gerald King of Gaylord, Mich.; a daughter, Sue Ann King of Grand Rapids, Mich.; and one grandchild.

Private burial services for Mr. King were held at Paradise Memorial Gardens in Scottsdale.

Elizabeth Stinson

Elizabeth Seeburger Stinson, 92, of Fountain Hills died March 1, 2000 at Scottsdale Healthcare Shea hospital.

Born Dec. 30, 1907, in Cheltenham, Pa., Mrs. Stinson had worked as a seamstress during her adult career.

Survivors include her son, Matthew Patrick Stinson of Norristown, Pa.; daughter, Betty Lou Walker, Fountain Hills; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren; she was preceded in death by a son, John Joseph Stinson.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Leukemia Society, 2990 E. Northern Ave., No. E-100, Phoenix, AZ 85028.
