Phyllis I. Weller
Phyllis I. Weller, 80, of Fountain Hills died at Plaza Health Care in Scottsdale on March 3, 2000.
Born March 25, 1919 in Bunker Hill, Mich., Ms. Weller was a buyer and manager in the retail sales industry and a member of the Fountain Hills Baptist Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Carol Hendricks (Jack) of Fountain Hills and Barbara Udell (Jim) of Colorado Springs, Colo.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service for Ms. Weller will be held at 11 a.m. on March 28 at First United Methodist Church in Jackson, Mich. and be followed by interment at Woodlawn cemetery also in Jackson.
The family suggests contributions be made to the Arthritis Foundation, 777 E. Missouri Avenue, suite 119, in Phoenix, 85014.
Lou Puryear
Mrs. Lou Puryear of Fountain Hills died Dec. 7 at Scottsdale Healthcare Shea Hospital. She was 76-years-old.
Mrs. Puryear was born on Dec. 30, 1924 on Lewistown Montana. She was a realtor during her adult career and a United States Navy Veteran who served during World War II.
Husband Marvin Puryear of Fountain Hills; sons Robert (Holly) of Phoenix and Bill (Kathy) of Scottsdale; daughter Mary Thieme (Ray) of Scottsdale; brother Jim Feyk (Holly) of Spokane, Wash.; sisters Evelyn Clutter (Winston) of Salinas, Calif.; Betty Morgan (Jim) of Medford, Ore; and Lucille Deitz of Mill Creek, Wash. and five grandchildren survive her.
A memorial service was Tuesday, Dec. 11 at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary. Contributions may be made to the Unity Church of East Mesa, 2700 E. Southern Ave, Mesa, AZ.
Margaret B. Guthrie
Margaret B. Guthrie, 84, of Fountain Hills died Sept. 18, 2004. She was born Feb. 22, 1920 in Independence, Mo.
She was married to Earl Jack of Independence, Mo. For 30 years, and married to Charles Guthrie of Independence for 28 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Guthrie and one son, Larry Jack.
She is survived by two sons, Richard Jack of Fountain Hills, and Earl Jack; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are under the direction of Greer Wilson Funeral Home, with services in Oak Grove, Mo.
Donald Max McDowell
Donald Max McDowell died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2004 following a long illness.
He leaves his loving family, widow Sandra; daughter and son-in-law Emily and Kevin Gibson; son and daughter-in-law and granddaughter, Chris, Elizabeth and Lilian. He also leaves many other loving family members and friends who have been steadfast in their care and support.
Mr. McDowell was born in Wylie, Texas, Nov. 25, 1938. He grew up in Grand Prairie, Texas and met his future wife at North Texas State College. They celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary in August this year.
Donald was a true southern gentleman with a real zest for life and a great sense of humor. He flew airplanes and loved fishing on the Chesapeake Bay, off the piers in Nags Head, N.C. and in Saguaro Lake. He was a real competitor in the game of skeet and enjoyed shooting with his family. He made numerous pieces of beautiful furniture, which are bestowed on grateful family members.
Donald’s professional careers spanned journalism and management. Over the years he made many good and lasting friendships.
He had a good time observing the passing political scene and debating politics with friends because he was raised in Texas where politics is a contact sport.
Funeral services for Mr. Maxwell were held Friday, Sept. 17, at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary. Interment was at Paradise Memorial Gardens, 92nd Street and Shea Blvd., Scottsdale.
David Altizer
David L. Altizer, 56, of Fountain Hills died Oct. 25, 2000 in Phoenix.
Born May 8, 1944 in Joplin, Mo., Mr. Altizer worked as an account manager for Eastman Kodak. He also served in the National Guard.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis R. Altizer of Fountain Hills; sons, Paul of New York, Richard of Tulsa, Okla. and Andrew of Phoenix; daughters, Theresa (James) of Dallas, Tina (James) of Tulsa and Cara Lee (Terry) of Phoenix; brothers, John of Republic, Mo. and Edward of Phoenix; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held Oct. 27 at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary, and a service was said Oct. 28 at Church of the Ascension.
Interment was at Holy Redeemer cemetery in Phoenix.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be sent to Church of the Ascension, 12615 N. Fountain Hills Blvd., Fountain Hills, AZ 85268.
Thomas J. Hearn
Thomas J. Hearn, 91, of Fountain Hills passed away on Oct. 27, leaving a sad place in the hearts of his family and friends.
Mr. Hearn is survived by his wife of 32 years, Arlene Brunner Hearn, and his stepson Gary Allhiser. He was born and raised in Wilmington, Del. He worked multiple jobs to support his mother and younger brothers during the Depression and served in the Army Air Force during World War II. Hem moved to Arizona in 1946.
Mr. Hearn retired in 1986 from O’Malley Investment and Realty in Phoenix after a distinguished and honorable career as an industrial real estate broker.
After retirement, Mr. Hearn divided his time between winters in Arizona and summers in Wisconsin. His joys in life were building beautiful homes, meticulously landscaping them, spending hours in hardware stores looking for new tools he couldn’t possibly live without, and playing with his beloved Westies, Chaucer and Keats. He takes a song in his heart and a dance in his step to the other side.
Services will be in Shawano, Wis. Donations in lieu of flowers are suggested to the Arizona Humane Society, 9226 N. 13th Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85021.
Alfred Pedersen Jr.
Alfred C. Pedersen Jr., 74, of Fountain Hills died Jan. 1, 2000 at Scottsdale Healthcare Shea hospital.
Born May 27, 1925 in Sacred Heart, Minn., Mr. Pedersen was a self-employed cabinet maker.
He had served in the U.S. Coast Guard and was a member of V.F.W. Post No. 8283 in Steger, Ill.
Survivors include his wife, Jean D. Pedersen of Fountain Hills; daughters, Leslie Pedersen Lundt of Boise, Idaho and Linda Keene of Steger, Ill.; sister, Gloria Christensen of Phoenix; and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Clark R.W. Pedersen, in 1970.
Private services were held, and interment will be in Homewood, Ill.

Esau Patrick
Esau Patrick, 65, of Fort McDowell died on Dec. 30, 1999 at Scottsdale Healthcare Shea.
Born Feb. 11, 1934 in the Fort McDowell Indian Community, Mr. Patrick was a utility worker for the City of Phoenix Water Department.
He was also a member of the Fort McDowell Presbyterian Church, a past Tribal Council president, an avid hunter who played sports throughout his life and a former attendee of Escuela Tucson Indian School.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn of Fort McDowell; two sons, Jarvis Patrick (Ester) of the Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community and Roddy Pilcher (Debbie) of Fort McDowell; an aunt, Molly Fasthorse also of Fort McDowell and 11 grandchildren.
Mr. Patrick was preceded in death by his brother, Earl Patrick, and his sister, Gloria King.
A visitation was held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 3, at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary. A service took place at 9 a.m. yesterday, Jan. 4, at the Fort McDowell Gymnasium. Interment was scheduled for the Fort McDowell cemetery.
Dorothy Parnell
Dorothy Parnell of Fountain Hills died on Jan. 3, 2000 at Vista Care Cottage in Gilbert, Ariz. She was 81.
Ms. Parnell was born on June 28, 1918 in Powder Springs, Ga. and she made her living as a beautician.
She was also a member of the Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church and the Scottsdale Lioness Club as well as a worker for "Granny" Sitting Services for many years in Arizona.
She is survived by her nephew, Arthur Evans of Atlanta.
A memorial service for Ms. Parnell will be held at 1 p.m. this Saturday, Jan. 8, at Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church, 13001 N. Fountain Hills Boulevard.

Irene J. Jones
Irene J. Jones, 84, of Scottsdale died on Dec. 10, 1999.
Originally from Story City, Iowa, Ms. Jones was a retired dietician who moved to Arizona from Iowa 10 years ago.
She is survived by a niece, Kathleen Naig of Cave Creek; and two nephews, Gregory and Michael Johnson.
A memorial service for Ms. Jones was held on Jan. 31 at Mountain View Presbyterian Church in Scottsdale.
Arrangements were conducted by Messinger Mortuary and Chapel in Scottsdale.

Edwin Taschner
Edwin Carl Taschner Sr., 81, died at his home in Fountain Hills on Jan. 26, 2000.
Born May 15, 1918 in Phoenixville, Penn., Mr. Taschner moved to New Jersey with his family when he was 2 years old. He remained there until making his final move to Fountain Hills in 1996.
Mr. Taschner served in the U.S. Army as a B25 aircraft gunnery instructor, and worked for a short time at Chalfont Haddon Hall. He then worked for Prudential Life Insurance, from where he retired after 37 years.
He was a freemason for 43 years at Trinity Lodge Number 79 F.&A.M. in New Jersey and later the Scottsdale Lodge Number 43 F.&A.M.
Mr. Taschner was an active member of the Fountain Hills Senior Activity Center, the Phoenix Chapter of the Air Force Association and, until his move to Arizona, Margate Community Church in New Jersey.
He is survived and loved by his wife, Romelia of Fountain Hills; sons Edwin Jr. of Fountain Hills, Kenneth of Frederick, Md. and Dennis of Trenton, N.J.; three granddaughters, Beverly Hyde of Mesa, Nancy Wolf of Frederick, Md. and Jennifer Taschner of Charlotte, N.C.; and one favorite little Maltese puppy, Itty Bitty Baily Boy, QT.
The family members say, "We all love you and miss you."
Funeral services for Mr. Taschner were held on Jan. 31 at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary with visitation an hour before.
A graveside memorial service will take place at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 17, in Pomona, N.J.

Annabell Burke
Annabell Burke, formerly of Fountain Hills, passed away in Seattle, Wash. on Jan. 31, 2000.
Mrs. Burke was born the second of eight children in Independence, Mo. After finishing school she moved to New York, where she worked as a model.
She was a volunteer Red Cross nurse during World War II.
She married Ed Burke in 1942, and they moved to Toledo, Ohio. In 1973 they retired and moved to Fountain Hills, where they made many friends. She loved golf and bridge and was an active participant in both.
Mrs. Burke had been in Seattle for the past three years with her nieces Toni Hall and Judy Wood and their families. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.
Carl Blake Anderson
Carl Blake Anderson, 17, of Fountain Hills died, March 29, at Fountain Hills.
Mr. Anderson was born Nov. 25, 1982 in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
He attended Fountain Hills public schools, played football and ran track. He was an accomplished artist and enjoyed working on and driving cars. He had done yard and pool maintenance, had been employed by Burger King and was employed as a tile setter.
Mr. Anderson is survived by his parents, Caren and Chuck Lattimer of Fountain Hills, and Steve and Jan Anderson of California; two sisters, Vanessa of Fountain Hills and Monika Anderson Blahnik (Paul) and children of California; three brothers, Marc Anderson (Mandi) and children of Phoenix, David Lattimer of Mesa and Joe Lattimer (Amy) and daughter of Glendale, AZ; his grandparents, Jack and Gerry Gerak of Fountain Hills and Harvey and Julie Anderson of California; a great-grandmother, Louise Ramage of Fountain Hills; an aunt, Cristy Gerak and an uncle, Gary Anno both of Oklahoma; three cousins, Michael Lamphere (Caryn) of Illinois, Darren Tockzo of Oklahoma and many friends.
Services for Mr. Anderson were held Saturday, April 1 at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary.
Peggy Jackson
A memorial service for Peggy Jackson will be held Sunday, April 16, at Fountain Hills Community Church, 15202 N. Fountain Hills Blvd.
The service will start at 4 p.m.
Mrs. Jackson died March 15 in Rockford, Ill., and she was a former winter resident of Fountain Hills who attended Community Church.
Although funeral services were held March 20 in Rockford, the family wanted to organize a memorial service in Fountain Hills.

Jeannette Moulaison
Jeannette R. Moulaison, 84, of Fountain Hills died March 29, 2000 at Scottsdale Healthcare Shea.
Born Nov. 18, 1915 in Belleville, Canada, she was a retired self-employed seamstress.
Mrs. Moulaison was a member of the Church of the Ascension and was an avid bridge player.
Survivors include her husband, Eugene, of Fountain Hills; sons, Philip E. Moulaison of Scottsdale and Kenneth L. Moulaison (Sandra) of Union Beech, N.J.; daughter, Shirley Petro (Joseph) of Phillipsburg, N.J.; sister, Leona Cummings, Belaire, Md.; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service was held March 31 at Church of the Ascension.
