Elaine Heath

Elaine D. Heath, a winter visitor to Fountain Hills, died Feb. 1, 2001 at Scottsdale Healthcare Shea hospital.

Born May 12, 1933 in Grosse Pointe, Mich., Mrs. Heath was a resident of Roscommon, Mich. and was a retired elementary school teacher.

She was a member of the Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include her husband, Andreas; sons, Daniel (Deborah) of Phoenix, Greg (Carol) of Grand Rapids, Mich. and Brian (Becky) of Grand Rapids; brother, Irvin Deckert (Evelyn) of Clinton Township, Mich.; sister, Marion Tyler (Cyril) of Venice, Fla.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Feb. 5 at Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church building fund.

Margaret Millican

Margaret Millican, 77, of Fountain Hills died Feb. 12, 2001 in Fountain Hills.

Mrs. Millican was a homemaker who was born on Feb. 18, 1923 in Bowling, Scotland.

She is survived by husband George E. Millican Sr., of Fountain Hills; sons George E. Jr. of Fountain Hills, John and Duncan, both of Wallingford, Conn.; daughter Margaret Hornak of Simpsonville, S.C.; Brother John Greenlees of Scotland; sister Betty Archibald of Scotland and three grandchildren.

Contributions may be made to the National Federation of the Blind at 2624 N. Terrace, Mesa, AZ, 85203 or to Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf, AZ Chapter, 4902 W. Mescal St., Glendale, AZ 85304.

Willis K. “Bill” Forney

Bill Forney, a retired advertising executive, passed away on Jan. 29, at his Chandler home.

He was 69.

Mr. Forney worked as an art director of several advertising agencies in southern California before becoming creative director for Lorne Pratt Enterprises in Scottsdale. The firm produced advertising for McCulloch Properties, Inc. including the promotion of Fountain Hills.

He later served as manager of MCOP Advertising in Fountain Hills and was advertising director for the Arizona Lottery before retiring.

He is survived by two sons, Brett Durrett of Frankfurt, Germany and Brian Forney; and two sisters, Faye Deschner of Kansas and Dorothy Boylan of Yuma.

No services were held. Donations are to be made to Hospice of the Valley.

Erna Conroy

Erna Conroy (Charles) of Wayzata, Minn. climbed on her pink cloud Feb. 15, 2001 at the age of 94.

The former mayor of Dellwood Minnesota, she lived and adored Fountain Hills since 1976, when she built her home on Fountain Hills Place prior to moving back to Minnesota several years ago.

She is survived by her daughter Patricia Strong, with whom she lived, and grandchildren Jeff Dayton, Tricia Warfield, Ralph Dayton, Grace Contro and Tony Strong; along with 10 loving great-grandchildren.

Erna took a great interest in her desert community, serving on the Road District Board and helping with incorporation efforts. She was a member of Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church and the Noon Kiwanis Club.

Before moving back to Minnesota in 1993, a large celebration was given in her honor to celebrate her community spirit.

Interment services will be held this summer in Minnesota. The family is establishing a memorial fund in Erna’s name at Box 886, Wayzata, MN 55391.

Lorna Villeneuve

Lorna Villeneuve, 62, of Fountain Hills died Feb. 17, 2001.

Born Feb. 22, 1938 in Rochester, Ind., Mrs. Villeneuve was a retired insurance broker.

She is survived by her mother, Nadine Langford; sons, Lucien Jr., Nils, Craig, Brian and Brett Villeneuve; daughter, Michelle Swistak; brothers, Ron, Lynn “Butch” and Larry Langford; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A private service will be held at the family residence. Interment will be at National Memorial cemetery of Phoenix.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower Street, Phoenix, AZ 85014.

Donald L. Eppard

Donald L. Eppard, 80, of Fountain Hills, died Feb. 22 at the Mayo Hospital in Phoenix.

Eppard was born on Jan. 1, 1920 in Pe Ell, Wash. and was a public accountant retired from the San Diego County Probate Court after 15 years of service during is working career. He was also a U.S. Navy veteran who served in World War II.

He leaves many friends at Desert Rose Adult Care Center in Scottsdale and is survived by niece Sandy Kirk (Dave) of Fountain Hills; nephews James Kirk of Flagstaff and Jake Kirk of Fountain Hills and brother-in-law Ralph Hafer of Mesa.

The visitation was held on Sunday, Feb. 25, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary. Interment will be at the Mountain View cemetery in Centralia, Wash.

Contributions can be made to the American Diabetes Association at 034 N. 43rd Ave., #8, Phoenix, AZ, 85021 or to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, 1 E. Camelback Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85012.

Rodney Waterstrat

Rodney Lee Waterstrat, 71, of Fountain Hills died Feb. 20, 2001 at Scottsdale Healthcare Shea hospital.

Born Sept. 2, 1929 in Tonawanda, N.Y. to Walter and Lillian Waterstrat. He graduated from Tonawanda High School and attended the University of Buffalo.

After spending four years in the National Guard, he earned an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point. He received a commission and graduated from West Point on June 7, 1955. He Married Elaine Westbrook on the same day.

His assignments took him to Fort Bliss, Texas; Fort Benning, Ga.; Fort Niagara, N.Y.; Fort Sill, Okla.; Aberdeen, Md.; Detroit, Mich.; Leavenworth, Kan.; Fort Carson, Colo.; and seven years in Germany.

He fought for his country in Vietnam. Mr. Waterstrat received an MBA at Arizona State University in 1965. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel at Fort Carson in 1980. He and Elaine moved to Fountain Hills in 1984.

Mr. Waterstrat, a member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, loved God, traditional church music and Bible study.

As a member of The Club he played regularly on two golf teams and headed a cooking team. He had a green thumb and spent hours working around his yard.

He was a loving husband and father and a very proud grandpa.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine, of Fountain Hills; son, Steven (Jacqueline) Waterstrat of Bonney Lake, Wash.; daughters, Kathryn (Jim) Beegle of Desota, Texas, and Susan Saliba of Colorado Springs, Colo.; brother, Lynn Waterstrat of Sanborn, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren – Susan, Steven, James, Kay, Ginny, Walter, Lilly and Beverly Beegle, Joseph and Jacob Saliba; and one great-grandchild Shane Roesch.

Mr. Waterstrat truly loved God, his wife and family, his friends and his country.

A memorial service was held Feb. 24 at Shepherd of the Hills. The family suggests memorial contributions be sent to Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 17444, Fountain Hills, AZ 85269.

Virginia Moots

Virginia Vera Moots, 85, of Fountain Hills died Feb. 19, 2001 in Mesa.

Born April 3, 1915 in Kalispell, Mont., she was a life-long member of Eastern Star. She moved to the Valley in 1960 from Oregon.

For the past 15 years she lived in the Las Alegras community in Mesa.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn D. Moots.

Her survivors include son, Gary Dishman of Fountain Hills; sister, Patricia Woods of San Diego, Calif.; and a brother, Thomas Pulliam of Santa Clara, Calif.

Services were held for Mrs. Moots Feb. 26 at Green Acres Memorial Gardens in Scottsdale.

The family suggestions memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1028 E. McDowell Road, Phoenix, AZ 85006.

John Arneson

John Richard Arneson, 77, of Fountain Hills died Feb. 26, 2001 at his home.

Born Sept. 18, 1923 in Edgemont, S.D., Mr. Arneson was a home builder.

A U.S. Navy veteran from World War II, Mr. Arneson was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Fountain Hills.

Survivors include his daughters, Crystal Quick of Prescott, Brittany Austin of California and Betty Leaird of Phoenix; brothers, Stan and Robert Arneson; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held March 4 with a graveside service and interment March 5 at the National Memorial cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Trinity Lutheran Church, 13770 N. Fountain Hills Blvd., Fountain Hills, AZ 85268.

Maximillian Kastner

Maximillian Gerard Kastner, nine days old, died March 1, 2001 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Phoenix.

He was born Feb. 21, 2001 in Phoenix.

The infant is survived by parents, Anne Marie and Kurt Kastner of Fountain Hills; paternal grandparents, Stephen Kastner of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Barbara Kastner of Fountain Hills; maternal grandparents, Frances and Patrick Dwyer of Fountain Hills; aunt, Jennifer Dwyer of Fountain Hills; and uncles, Eric Kastner of Brooklyn and Paul Dwyer of Fountain Hills.

A funeral mass was held March 3 at Church of the Ascension in Fountain Hills.

Loren Krugel

Loren Krugel, 85, a resident of Fountain Hills since 1979, passed away Feb. 14, 2001 at Hospice of the Valley on Shea Boulevard.

Loren was born Dec. 14, 1915 in Mapleton, Minn. He graduated from Mankato High School in 1935 and married Corolyn Miner of Janesville, Minn. in 1938. They were married 62 years.

Loren worked at National Citizens Bank and Ben Jones Accounting Firm in Mankato. He was a very successful amateur golfer winning many tournaments including the Minnesota Masters, Minnesota state Junior Golf Title and the Minnesota Senior Title. He was a Head Pro for 36 years and held two lifetime memberships. He played exhibitions with Sam Snead and Patty Berg.

Loren was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Zurah Temple Shrine in Minnesota and a lifelong member of the 30-40 Club of Mankato. He belonged to the Episcopal Church of the Atonement in Fountain Hills. He was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Menton.

Loren is survived by his wife, Corolyn, daughter Tracey Holland, grandson Ethan Holland and wife Desiree and great-granddaughter, Kellie Marie Holland, a brother Donald Krugel and his wife Kathleen.

Loren was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was also a very talented artist. He is greatly missed by his family and friends.

There will be a private family memorial service, father Jeffrey Smith officiating.

Wanda Szubka

Wanda Szubka, 78, of Fountain Hills dies March 9, 2001 in Fountain Hills.

Born June 29, 1922 in Chicago, Ill., Mrs. Szubka was a homemaker.

She was a member if the Church of the Ascension Rosary Society, the Lioness Club of Fountain Hills and a former volunteer at Scottsdale Healthcare Shea Hospital.

She is survived by William Szubka of Fountain Hills; daughters Lee Fernandez (Tom) of Fountain Hills and Linda Burda of Fountain Hills; brother Florian Stec of Chesterton, Ind.; sisters Lucille Rzyski, Michigan and Mildred Bielawski of Chesterton, Ind.; four grandchildren Cherie and Aaron Jurasko and Todd and Ryan Burda and three great-grandchildren Jayd Jurasko, Alicia Hubble and Seth Burda.

A memorial service was held on Monday, March 12, at the Church of the Ascension in Fountain Hills.

Donations may be made to the Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ, 85014.

William J. Bollinger

William J. Bollinger, 75, of Fountain Hills, died March 17 at Scottsdale Healthcare Shea Hospital.

Mr. Bollinger was born on April 13, 1925, in Queens Village, N.Y., and was a hardware salesman during his professional career. He served in the United States Army during World War II and was the recipient of a Bronze Star.

He is survived by his wife, Beatrice Bollinger of Fountain Hills; son, Bill Bollinger (Terry) of Phoenix; daughters Anne Kelleher of Fountain Hills and Claire Rooney (Larry) Azle, Texas; sister Elizabeth Collins of Reston, Va. and four grandchildren Jori and Denise Kelleher and Katherine and Andrea Rooney.

A Rosary service was held on Monday, March 19 and services were on Tuesday, March 20, at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary.

Contributions can be made at the Hospice of the Valley, 1150 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ, 85014.

Leonard L. Hulme

Leonard L. Hulme, 68, of Fountain Hills passed away March 16, 2001 at Scottsdale Healthcare Shea hospital.

Born Jan. 11, 1933 in Britt, Iowa, Mr. Hulme was the owner of a construction company. In his earlier days he was an executive commercial pilot and flying instructor in Grand Island, Neb.

Mr. Hulme was a U.S. Army veteran. He proudly served as a member of President Eisenhower’s Honor Guard and was in the 82nd Airborne.

A member of Central Christian Church in Mesa, he enjoyed his family, flying and Nebraska Cornhusker football.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Lee Hulme, to whom he was married for 46 loving years; sons, Thomas Lee, Timothy Lee and Leonard Lee Hulme Jr.; brother, Tom Hulme Jr.; sister, Irene Hulme; and four grandchildren, Travis, Matthew, Jason and Austin.

Visitation will be today, March 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary, 12065 N. Saguaro Blvd. A private family graveside service will be held at the National Memorial cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix.

The family suggests memorial contributions be given to Vista are, 6991 E. Camelback Rd., No. C250, Scottsdale, AZ 85251.
