Adrian Cobrarrubrio

Adrian Matthew Cobrarrubrio, 20, of the Fort McDowell Indian Community passed away March 26, 2001.

He is survived by his father, Elliot Isaac of Fort McDowell; a brother, Skye Cody of Fort McDowell; and sisters, Monica Isaac Garcia and Melinda Isaac of Fort McDowell and Cassaja Cody of California.

Visitation was held March 30 at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary and interment was at the Fort McDowell cemetery.

Roger DiPaolo

Roger F. DiPaolo, 76, of Fountain Hills died March 26, 2001 at Scottsdale Healthcare Shea.

Born Jan. 1, 1925 in Bariscino, Italy, he was a judge during his adult career. He also was a U.S. Army veteran during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Linda DiPaolo of Fountain Hills; son, Roger J. DiPaolo of Stow, Ohio; daughters, Linda Copley of Kent, Ohio and Deborah Dexter of Middletown, Ohio; brother, Dom DiPaolo of Shadyside, Ohio; sister, Carol Badia of Bellaire, Ohio; and five grandchildren.

All services were held in Kent, Ohio. Interment was at Maple Grove cemetery in Ravenna, Ohio.

Angela Hubert

Angela Hubert, 92, of Fountain Hills died March 21, 2001.

Born Dec. 30, 1908 in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was a homemaker. Mrs. Hubert also was a member of Church of the Ascension in Fountain Hills.

Survivors include her daughter, Diane Martin (Bradford) of Fountain Hills; son, Ronald Hubert (Ginny) of New York; daughter-in-law, Agnes Hubert of New York; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband Joseph and a son, Alfred.

Visitation was held March 22 at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary with a graveside service March 23 at Paradise Memorial Gardens in Scottsdale.

Dexter Wathogoma

Dexter M. Wathogoma, 43, a resident of Phoenix, died March 28 in Phoenix.

Mr. Wathogoma was born in August 15, 1957 in Fort McDowell. He was a security officer at the gaming casino.

He is survived by his mother, Susanna Wathogoma of Fort McDowell; daughters Deanna Schurz (Jeremy), Adena Wathogoma and Lonnie Wathogoma all of Fort McDowell; sons Warren Doungeva Jr. (Jenell) of Fort McDowell and Clark Yazzie of Parker, Ariz.; brother Anthony Wathogoma of Fort McDowell; sisters Patricia Wathogoma of Mesa, Isabelle Wathogoma of Fort McDowell and Clarabelle Pineda of Fort McDowell and seven grandchildren.

The visitation was held on Monday, April 2, at the Wathogoma residence in Fort McDowell. The service was Tuesday, April 3, at the Fort McDowell Recreation Center. Interment was at Fort McDowell cemetery.

John Cochran

John J. Cochran, 95, a long-time resident of Fountain Hills, died May 8, 2001 in Denver, Colo. with his daughter and two grandsons at his side.

Born Oct. 29, 1905 in Ipswich, S.D., Mr. Cochran worked as an insurance agent for New York Life.

A U.S. Navy veteran from World War II, Mr. Cochran was a member of the Elks Club, Men’s Club of Fountain Hills and Church of the Ascension.

He is survived by his son, Terry J. Cochran; daughter, Kay Miller; brother, Maurice Cochran; and three grandchildren, Damon, Derek and Cortney.

A memorial service will be held in Fountain Hills in late June.

Karl Metzger Jr.

Karl E. Metzger Jr., 61, of Fountain Hills died May 8, 2001.

Born March 7, 1940 in Hempstead, N.Y., Mr. Metzger retired in 1996 from Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kan. as student financial aid administrator.

He belonged to the Kansas Association/Rocky Mountain Region Association and the Arizona Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine, of Fountain Hills; son, Eric L. Metzger, of Texas; daughter, Lacey Metzger Hull, of Phoenix; brother, Dr. F. Kirk Metzger of England; and one grandson, Johnathan Edward Metzger.

Services and interment were in Lexington, Ky.

The family suggests memorial contributions be given to Dublin School, c/o Karl E. Metzger Fund, Alumni & Development Office, Box 522, Dublin, N.H. 03444.

Louise Ramage

Louise T. Ramage of Fountain Hills, born Aug. 12, 1910 eighth of 10 children in Tennessee, died May 10, 2001 after a long battle with lung cancer.

She is survived by her faithful companion BeeGee and by her daughter, Gerry (Jack) Gerak of Fountain Hills; sister, Ada Sue Hill of Corvallis, Ore.; and granddaughters, Christy Gerak (Gary Anno) of Oklahoma and Caren Lattimer (Charles) of Fountain Hills.

Also, great-grandchildre Michael Toczko; Darren Toczko; Vanessa Anderson; Monika Anderson; Mark (Mandi) Anderson; David Lattimer; Joe (Amy) Lattimer; and Becky (Justin) Fox; great-great grandchildren Kelcie, Nathan, Ciera and Paige Anderson; Ashlee Fox; and Kimberly Lattimer; also by many nieces and nephews and friends; she will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Visitation was held May 13 at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary; a graveside service will be held May 16 at Rose Hills cemetery in Whittier, Calif.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower Street, Phoenix, AZ 85014 or to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 5377, Phoenix, AZ 85010.

Eugene L. Clark

Eugene L. Clark, 78, of Fountain Hills died May 31 in Scottsdale.

Mr. Clark was born May 11, 1923 in Lenoir, NC. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and owner/vice president of Dixie Midwest Transportation Co. Franklin, IN.

Mr. Clark is survived by his wife, Ruby of Fountain Hills; one son, Gary Clark of Charlotte, NC; a daughter, Mary Brand of Fountain Hills; two brothers, Bill of San Antonio, TX, and Walter (Michey) of Morristown, TN; and two sisters, Shirley Manser and Eddie Clark both of Oneida, NY; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Memorial contributions for Mr. Clark may be made to Hospice of the Valle, Eckstein Center, 9494 E. Becker Lane, Scottsdale, AZ 85260.

Michael Gene Namoki

Michael Gene Namoki, 47, of Fort McDowell, died June 3 in Scottsdale.

Mr. Namoki, born on Feb. 16 in Polacca, Ariz., worked with explosives at the sand and gravel company during his adult career. He was a United States Marine Veteran.

Mr. Namoki is survived by his wife, Roberta Namoki, brothers Orlando Moreno, Rocky Thomas, Sherman Thomas and Risky Thomas and sister Sandra Namoki Honeycutt.

Visitation for Mr. Namoki will be held Wednesday, June 6 at 6 p.m. at the family residence.

Services will be held Thursday, June 7 at 8 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church Arbor at Fort McDowell. Interment will be at Fort McDowell cemetery.

Barbara Caracci

Barbara Caracci, 87, a Fountain Hills resident, died on June 8 in Scottsdale.

Mrs. Caracci was born Dec. 4 in Chicago and was a stenographer for an auto dealership.

Her husband Ralph Caracci of Fountain Hills, daughter Carmella Moore, son-in-law Dr. Robert Moore and two grandchildren, all of whom live in Irvin, Calif, survive her.

A visitation and service were held on June 12 at the Church of the Ascension. Interment was at the Paradise Memorial Gardens in Scottsdale.

Contributions may be made to St. Vincent de Paul located at 420 W. Watkins St., Phoenix, AZ, 85003.

Elaine G. Grace

Elaine G. Grace, 91, of Fountain Hills, died June 15 at Scottsdale Healthcare Shea Hospital.

Mrs. Grace was born on March 9, 1910 in Flaxton, N.D She was a Civil Service switchboard supervisor during her adult career.

Her son Thomas F. Grace of Santa Ynez, Calif. and two grandchildren survive her.

A memorial service will be Wednesday, June 20, at 6 p.m. at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary, located at 12065 N. Saguaro Blvd.

Contributions may be made in Mrs. Grace’s memory to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ, 85014.

Elsie Ricken

Elsie Ricken, 90, a recent Fountain Hills resident, died on June 20 in Winfield, Ill.

Elsie was born on Oct. 27, 1910 in Hinsdale, Ill. She resided with her daughter and son-in-lay, Joann and Bob Daniels in Fountain Hills from August 1999 until her return to Illinois in April 2001.

She is survived by daughter Joann (Bob) Daniels; her son Larry Ricken of Plainfield, Ill.; her son John Ricken of Darien, Ill.; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was on June 15 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Lemont, Ill. Interment was at St. Alphonsus Catholic cemetery in Lemont, Ill.

Juanita M. Veurink

Juanita M. Veurink, 71, of Fountain Hills died June 18, 2001 at her home.

She was born June 15, 1930 in Muskegon, Mich. At the age of 26 she fought a life threatening battle with polio.

At this early age she found the inner strength to fight the effects of this disease with determination, perseverance and faith. With these attributes she regained her ability to walk.

Juanita forever became a pillar of strength to her family and to all who came to know her. She outreached to so many people living her life by the biblical passage “seek and you shall find.”

Her directness, honesty and humor were a wonderful gift of communication that allowed people and family to turn to her for help and guidance. Her children and grandchildren knew that “mum” was there for them and would not judge in times of crisis.

On top of all this ability to handle problems brought to her by family and friends, she still found time to have fun and to always celebrate the positives of life.

Juanita’s many passions often revolved around the church with husband, Wally, participating in the Cursillo/Decolores movement and often did prison ministry.

For many years in Muskegon Juanita operated her “Seek & You Shall Find” religious book store. Other interests included her continual search for learning and knowledge. With a great talent and skill at bridge she won the National Bridge Tournament in 1964 and became a life master and instructed bridge for several years. Traveling was another favorite pastime.

She is survived by her husband, Wallace; two sons, Steven and Thomas; two daughters, Laura Veurink-McCarthy (William) and Sandra Thomas (Douglas); four grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 29, at 11 a.m. at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, El Lago and Fountain Hills boulevards.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014.

Asta Timm Forrest

Asta Timm Forrest, 82, passed away June 28 at her home in Fountain Hills after a lingering fight against cancer.

Mrs. Forrest was born Jan. 30, 1919 in Aalborg, Denmark. She married Will Timm in August 1949. They immigrated to the United States in June 1950 and lived in Pasadena, Calif. Her career included dental assistant and office manager. Mr. Timm passed away in January 1971.

Mrs. Forrest married Edward Forrest Dec. 6, 1975. They moved to Fountain Hills in May 1990. Edward passed away in 1993.

Mrs. Forrest was an active member of the Danish Club of Phoenix, the International Club of Fountain Hills, the German Club of Fountain Hills and the International Women’s Club of Scottsdale.

She was a strong supporter of the Danish Immigrant Museum in Elk Horn, Iowa, the Fountain Hills Civic Association, the State of California Department of Parks and Recreation, the Arizona State Parks Board and the Geospatial Information and Technology Association, which was founded by Mr. Forrest.

A memorial service for Mrs. Forrest will be held Friday, July 6, at 2 p.m. at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, at Fountain Hills and El Lago boulevards.

In is requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to either the American Cancer Society or Hospice of the Valley.

Andrew Nichols

Andrew Nichols, 93, of Fountain Hills died June 27, at Scottsdale Healthcare Shea hospital.

Mr. Nichols was born Sept. 25, 1908 in Dayton, Ore. He was a retired farmer.

He is survived by his wife, Catherine of Fountain Hills, one son, Myron Nichols of Dayton, Ore., and three grandchildren.

A memorial service is to be held in Dayton, Ore.

Riley Marie Hoyle

Services for Riley Marie Hoyle, 3, of Scottsdale were held June 30 at St. Maria Goretti Church in Scottsdale.

It is not about what happens to us, but what we do with what happens that has meaning. Hooray for Riley!

Riley Marie is survived by her parents, Everette and Annie Hoyle, Grandma Lee Schweikert, Grandpa Bill Schweikert, Papa John Hall and Grandma Lynda Hall. She is also survived by her uncles, David Schweikert and Greg Schweikert, and her Aunt Melissa Hall and sisters Sydney Hoyle and Haley Hoyle.

The family suggests contributions to Steele Memorial Children’s Research Center, 1501 N. Campbell, P.O. Box 245073, Tucson, AZ 85724.

Green Acres Mortuary of Scottsdale handled the funeral arrangements.
