Alice Walsh

Alice J. Walsh, 89, of Fountain Hills passed away May 21, 2004 in Fountain Hills.

Formerly of Norwood, Mass., and a long-term employee of First National Bank of Boston, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas F. Walsh, and their son, Edward P. Walsh.

She is survived by her son, Thomas F. Walsh (Dottie), two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Mass will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 29, at Church of the Ascension, 12615 N. Fountain Hills Blvd.

Life-Paths Funeral Home of Scottsdale assisted the family.

Pauline Montez

Pauline May Montez, born June 15, 1920 in Wichita, Kan., passed away Jan. 27, 2005 in Fountain Hills.

Her fierce independency and determination were surpassed only by her love for her family.

Pauline was loved and respected by everyone who knew her. She had a zest for life and found good in everyone. She was always helpful and caring to others, even during difficulties in her own life.

She lived the majority of her life in California, but spent her last days here in Fountain Hills enjoying the sunshine and the desert with her family.

Pauline is survived by her three children, Nick, Ron and Toni; her grandchildren, Sven, Lisa, Sherry, Nicole and Alex; and her great-grandchildren, Shaun, Danielle, Ryan, Niko and Alyssa.

Mom, you will be the sunshine in our hearts forever.

Kerwin D. Smith

Kerwin D. Smith of Fort McDowell died Jan. 27, at Scottsdale Healthcare Shea hospital.

Mr. Smith was born Aug. 11, 1957 in Phoenix. He was employed as a carpenter.

Mr. Smith is survived by a son, Emery Smith; step son, Samuel Kill; daughter Kerrie Smith; step-daughter Eliza Paya; brothers, Leonard Smith (Lordana), Alfred Smith, Jr., Alvis Smith and Leland Quotskuyva (Reva); sisters, Clarinda Smith, Louanna Quotskuyva (Martin), Lavina Quotskuyva (David), Linda Jean Hopkins (Darwin); and three grandchildren, all of Fort McDowell; and great-aunts Clara Starr and Florence Jones of Prescott.

Visitation will be held Friday, Feb. 4, from 5 p.m. until Saturday morning at Kerwin’s residence.

Funeral services will be Saturday, Feb. 5, at 9 a.m. at the Fort McDowell Presbyterian Church Arbor. Interment will be at Fort McDowell cemetery.

Edith Henderson

Edith "Edie" Henderson, 87, of Fountain Hills died at her residence on April 18, 2000.

Born May 10, 1912 in Chicago, Ill., Mrs. Henderson was a retired manufacturing shipping clerk.

Survivors include her daughter, Diane Henderson of Fountain Hills; sister, Frances (Fritzie) Coy of Georgia; two grandsons; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Addison; brother, Ottowell Jones; sister, Cora Brunker; and granddaughter, Donna Lynn.

Visitation and Celebration of Life were held at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary April 20.

The family suggests memorial contributions be given to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, Kanab, Utah 84741.

Joseph Bolan

Joseph Bolan (born Salvatore Bologna) died May 9, 2000 in Mesa. He was 92.

Mr. Bolan was born Dec. 7, 1907 in Palermo, Sicily and was a Mesa resident. He was a paint and pigment specialist for Chemetron Corp. He also volunteered at the Mesa Public Library.

Mr. Bolan is survived by one son, Robert Bolan (Inge) of Fountain Hills; one daughter, Joyce Davis of Houston, Texas; a brother, Joseph Bolan of Albertson, Long Island, N.Y.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

His wife, Marion; sisters Fannie and Catherine; and brothers Bill and Tony preceded him in death.

Services for Mr. Bolan were held Saturday, May 13, at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers the family is suggesting memorial contributions to the Mesa Public Library, 64 E. 1st Street, Mesa 85201.

Mary Nelson

Mary Nelson of Fountain Hills died May 23, 2000 in Phoenix. She was 87.

Mrs. Nelson was born Dec. 28, 1912 in Cincinnati. She earned her bachelor of science and master of arts degrees from the University of Cincinnati and was a retired elementary school teacher.

Mrs. Nelson is survived by one son, William C. Nelson; one daughter, Penny Zimmerman; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A memorial service for Mrs. Nelson was held May 26 at Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church.

Memorial contributions in memory of Mrs. Nelson may be sent to MCRS T. J. Pappas Elementary School, 355 N. 5th Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85003 to the attention of Erna Lee Phelps.

Joseph Aurelio

Joseph Aurelio, 69, of Homewood, Ill. died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2001 at St. Francis Hospital, Blue Island, Ill.

Mr. Aurelio was born Aug. 20, 1922 in Chicago. He was the proprietor and founder of Aurelio’s Pizza, which he began in 1959. Through hard work and determination he turned his four table pizza parlor in Homewood, Ill. into a 650-seat family friendly restaurant. Aurelio’s now has 31 restaurants in five states.

He grew up in Chicago’s Roseland community and graduated from Fenger High School and Thornton Junior College. He served in the United States Army at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Mr. Aurelio believed in supporting his community. He served on the boards of St. Francis Hospital, Italian American Sports Hall of Fame, Bank of Homewood and Governors State University.

He supported the Kennedy School, Hope Children’s Hospital, Christ Hospital, Misericordia, Glenwood School, St. James Hospital and St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

He was one of the first property owners in Fountain Hills and a frequent visitor to his family here.

Mr. Aurelio is survived by his wife, Anne Aurelio of Homewood, Ill.; his daughters, Susan Aurelio, Amy Aurelio-Kaminski (Michael) of Homewood and Lori Nagela (Don) of Fountain Hills; his son, Joseph Aurelio (Christine) of Homewood; grandchildren Don and Kailey Nagela, Cameron and Sophia Aurelio and Lia Kaminski; and great grandchild Austin Nagela.

A memorial celebration will be held Dec. 30 at Aurelio’s Pizza in Homewood, Ill.

Verla B. Ellmore

Verla B. Ellmore, 86, of Fountain Hills, died Jan. 10 in Scottsdale.

Mrs. Ellmore was born on June. 21, in Forest City, Ill. She was the owner of a flower and gift shop during her career.

Her survivors are daughter Janice Rollo (Ed) of Fountain Hills; grandsons Glenn Rollo (Sandra) of Lauder Hill, Fla., Douglas Rollo (Desiree) of Phoenix,and Dennis McCann of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; granddaughter Kimberley Watkins (Kim) of Homestead, Fla.; great-grandsons Jeffrey and Daniel Rollo of Lauder Hill, Fla; Jeremy Rollo of Phoenix and David Watkins of Homestead, Fla.

A memorial service was held during the weekend at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary.

Mildred McQuiston

Mildred McQuiston, 105, of Apache Wells, Mesa, passed away Jan. 9 at her home.

Mrs. McQuiston was born in Rockford, Ill. on Oct. 8 1896. She moved from LaPorte, Ind. to Scottsdale in April, 1952 and then to Mesa in 1966.

Her husband, Clayton, owned McQ’s Western Wear Store in Scottsdale. He died in 1982 at the age of 92.

She has four surviving children. Three daughters, Hazel, of Scottsdale, Mary Helen of Christopher Creek and Lura, who lives at the home in Mesa; son Terence of Fountain Hills and two deceased sons, William and Melvin; 22 grandchildren, many great grandchildren and a few great, great grandchildren.

Mrs. McQuiston was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary since joining in 1920. She was also a member of the Eastern Star and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

A memorial service was at the Apache Wells Community Church on Monday, Jan. 14.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to the Apache Wells Community Church, 2115 N. Gayridge Rd., Mesa, AZ, 85215.

Anthony Karson

Anthony Karson, 62, a former resident of Fountain Hills, died May 7, in Sedona.

Mr. Karson was born August 12, 1937 in Akron, Ohio. He was a real estate agent.

An aunt, Barbara Davis of Sedona and close friend Doris Elco of Fountain Hills survive Mr. Karson.

Visitation for Mr. Karson will be held Wednesday, May 10, from 12 noon to 2 p.m. at Messinger Fountain Hills Mortuary, 12065 Saguaro Boulevard.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 10 at Messinger Fountain Hills.

Interment will be at Paradise Memorial Garden Mausoleum in Scottsdale.

Family is requesting memorial contributions to Northern Arizona Hospice, 202 S. Willard St. Cottonwood, AZ 86326.

Artie Bresina

Arthur "Artie" P. Bresina, 20, a 1997 graduate of Fountain Hills High School, died May 2, 2000 in Cornell, town of Estella, Wis.

He was born on July 24, 1979 in Fountain Hills, the son of John Paul and Patricia K. (Zielke) Bresina.

He was attending Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff. He was a private pilot with an instrument rating and was aspiring to be an airline pilot.

He is survived by his parents, John "Jack" and Patty Bresina of Holcombe, Wis.; two sisters, Chelsea and Vanessa, both at home; paternal grandparents, Arthur and Rita Bresina of Chippewa Falls, Wis.; maternal grandparents, Patrick and Beatrice Zielke of LaCrosse, Wis; many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; the love of his life, Sarah Kenney of Flagstaff; and his dogs "Rocky" and "Lexor."

He was preceded in death by a cousin, Ericka Kurz.

Funeral services were held May 6 in the Town of Tilden.

He will be missed by his family, friends and everyone he touched as far away as Hungary and Germany. He loved flying, rock climbing and his artwork. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends around the campfire. Artie Bresina lived and loved life.

Horan Funeral Home in Chippewa Falls handled the arrangements.

Aida Zucchini

Aida M. Zucchini, 84, of Fountain Hills died May 3, 2000 at the Eckstein Center, Scottsdale.

Born Feb. 17, 1916 in Woodstock, Ill., Mrs. Zucchini was a homemaker.

Survivors include her three sons, J. Frank of Fountain Hills, J. Carl of Boulder, Colo. and J. Paul of Scottsdale; sister, Maria of Italy; and five grandchildren, Alyssa, Christina, Danielle, Zachary and Gianmarco.

A memorial mass was held May 6 at Church of the Ascension in Fountain Hills.

The family suggests memorial contributions be given to the Eckstein Center, 9494 E. Becker Lane, Scottsdale, AZ 85260.

Evalyn Cooper

Evalyn J. Cooper passed away peacefully Jan. 25, 2002.

This lady with the beautiful smile was born Nov. 24, 1923 in Cannonsberg, Pa. to Charles and Anna Slivyak.

After working as a model for a department store back East, she moved to California in the 1950s where she fell in love with and married her husband of 48 years, Al, where together they raised their son, Craig.

She and Al moved to Fountain Hills in 1996 to be close to their son and his wife, where she quickly adapted her life-long love of gardening to the desert, cheered for the Coyotes and Diamondbacks and was once again able to cook for her family.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Al; son, Craig and his wife, Pam, all of Fountain Hills; sisters, Judith Westphal, Anaheim Hills, Calif., and Ethelyn Slivak, S. Pasadena, Calif.; niece, Judy Lynn Kinnaman of Big Sky, Mont.; two grandnieces; and a great-grandnephew.

She is preceded in death by her brothers, John and Paul, and sister, Mary Ann.

She will be remembered by call for her devotion to God, her love for her family and her unending thoughtfulness to those around her. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Raymond Galluccio

Raymond G. Galluccio, 78, of Fountain Hills, died Jan. 23.

Mr. Galluccio is a veteran of the U.S. Army.

There is no visitation or memorial service.

Green Acres Mortuary, Scottsdale, is making funeral arrangements.
